Nonetheless, this trail was indeed beautiful and unpredictable. Woodsy in some parts (great for bird watching), and open in others. You can find covered picnic areas and barbecue grills near the "park" area, making a great little spot for a family birthday party. I can envision the Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol balloons now. There were nice benches throughout, and different exercise stops where you could do pull ups or crunches mid-walk to mix up your workout, which was unique. Since I was flying solo, after walking a couple of miles, I eventually made a u-turn because I wasn't sure where the trail ended (even after looking at the map). I know it's no mall, but a "you are here" star somewhere on the map would have been helpful lol. I wasn't sure where I would end up if I kept walking, or if I would walk too far and end up not making it back to my car before dusk. Confession: I was low key following a guy who had arrived a few minutes before me and looked like he knew where he was going. Surprisingly, there weren't many people to choose from. Not sure if he noticed. Shhh! I enjoyed my refreshing outing and wouldn't mind exploring it further...with a buddy!

There is not a ton of parking nearby but you can park in the neighborhoods or over by the Barbara Bush track before the middle school opens in the mornings. This is also a great destination to view the sunrise or sunset skies and it is colorful with lots of nature. Lots of runners and walkers meet in the area in the mornings to do their daily miles. Bring a flashlight and a buddy if you workout in the earlier hours of the day or towards sunset. But great for families or your furry friends. There's a lot of brush and bugs and little animals that are near the trail so I would watch for the little babies walking around to not get too far off trail, but it adds to the nature vibes otherwise. Campion Trails is a walking/biking trail that runs parallel to the Trinity River in Irving. It…read morestretches from Las Colinas all the way to Valley Ranch. For this review, I'm going to highlight all the areas where you can park and enter the trail. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Trail, Return) Atmosphere - The trail is a wonderful, well shaded path which is populated with a good mix of cyclists, runners, roller bladers, and even families. It's one of my favorite places in the city, because it takes you away from the concrete jungle and into a lush, green, natural hideaway. 2 Stars. Trail - Here are the trail entrances where you can park your car and enter into Campion Trails starting from North to South. Sam Houston Trail Park - 101 I-635, Irving, TX 75038. This entrance is at 161 and Valley View. It's a good location if you want to start north and go down. Also, it has the only outhouse (that I know of). I've never used it but just know it's there. TW Richardson Grove - 101 Lyndon B Johnson Fwy, Irving, TX 75063. Right off the exit for George Bush Hwy off I635, this area has a covered patio that's perfect for gatherings for picnics and cookouts. La Vallita Park - 1 Camino Rio, Irving, TX 75039. This park is in the La Villita neighborhood. It was two playgrounds for kids, lots of shade from trees, and a covered patio. Rio Vista Park - 2 Barcelona, Irving, TX 75039. Also located in La Villita. This park has a basketball court, playground, and a covered patio with grills. There are no parking lots, but you can park along Barcelona, Campion Trails Park - 5950 Riverside Dr, Irving, TX 75039. This parking lot is next to the Irving Police Station. Needless to say, it's safe to park your car here. Birds Fort Trail Park - 5756 Riverside Dr, Irving, TX 75039. This is the BEST entrance to Campion Trails. Not only is there plenty of parking, but there are several covered patios, and it overlooks the Trinity River. Paws Colinas Dog Park - 1300 California Crossing Rd, Irving, TX 75039. This is a great dog park. It's really not a place to park and enter Campion Trail, just know it connects. California Crossing Park - 5198 Riverside Dr, Irving, TX 75039. This is the end (or beginning) of Campion Trails. Start here if you want to start biking north towards Valley Ranch/Coppell. Let's go! 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I live in La Villita so my entry way is through the two parks. I hope that after reading this review, you'll be inspired to check out one of my favorite trails in all of DFW. 1 Star.

This is a semi historical area and not just for the low water crossing before the Trinity was…read moretamed, but also for the Armory near by. The Armory was one of the homes of the Texas' 49th Armored Division which was one of the National Guard units activated during the Berlin Wall Crisis. The two M48 tanks out front are a reminder of those times. The park has some of the best yellow cat fishing anywhere along the Trinity. The small dam generally has at least one or two fishermen there trying to coax a few catfish into their ice chests. A ramp was recently placed to allow paddlers a way in and out of the gently flowing river. The nearby LB Houston Bike Trail and lots of other places to fish, wander and picnic make this park a secret gem. The spring wildflowers are very picturesque.

This is a park that should get more attention, if for nothing more than its size and location. It…read morehappens to be close to Northwest Highway, 114, Loop 12, and Riverside Dr in Irving, making it VERY accessible. The area is significant as this was a low point in the river before the Trinity River's flooding was tamed, thus it allowed others from the Dallas area and villages to cross the river... ostensibly on their way to California :) There's 2 sections to the park with California Crossing Rd dividing the two. Together, it's 490 acres of park on the border between Irving and Dallas. The southern part is small encompassing the southern trailhead for the North segment of Campion Trail. It has benches and a portapotty. There's parking (not much, about 10 spaces) and the entrace is right off of Riverside. The other part is larger with more wide open spaces, with the LB Houston bike and hike trail across California Crossing Rd. I don't recall seeing a water fountain at this park which is unusual as a trailhead park.

There is also an unpaved area of the trail the goes along the north side of the creek that is quite beautiful. The play structures are pretty pathetic. Definitely for the 2 and under crowd. There is one near the parking lot and one at the end of the Trailwood park trail. Both are underwhelming. There are outhouses by the parking lot and a bare-bones, one-stall bathroom near the tennis courts. I am thankful for all parks with trails - what a great way to get out and get exercise - but I think there are better trails in the area.

Lakeview Park is located in Grapevine, TX and is a good place to kick back and go fishing or let…read morethe kids go loose at the playground they have to offer at this lake. Entering is as easy as scanning the QR code provided when entering the park and typing in your car license plate. As of June 2025, the entrance fee was $10, and this was on a weekend if that matters. Inside the park the car parking is very limited and to get a spot you either get lucky or just have to wait for other cars to leave. To prevent anyone trying to park illegal they positioned big rocks on the grass. There is a playground with swings and slides and multiple pavilions with shade. There is a small fishing pier and a beach like waterfront for swimming and fishing. We decided to try our luck and cast our rods out in the lake and surprisingly we caught a 3lb catfish within 10 minutes. We stayed about 2 hours and just got bites but nothing else. There are restrooms onsite and they have water fountains but when I was there, they were not working. There is a boat dock to release your boats and jet skis out in the water and while we were there, they had a good amount of people out in the water with their boats. Overall, we enjoyed our time here and will most likely return in the future for some fishing and hanging out with the family.

Little used until about 20 years ago it's now ringed with homes,hotels and soon high rises. The little lake that was, is fast becoming something we aren't used to in this area.
