Panang Curry and Pad See Eiw
Jayson S.

Good quality food, they have a lunch special, and the pricing is good. Service is quick. The ambiance is pretty old and beat up. It's a hole in the wall spot. It's not super clean and far from fancy but the food is good.

I've been to Sala Thai a few times across different locations, and each one has been consistently great. My new favorite dish is the crab fried rice is packed with flavor and cooked perfectly every time. I also highly recommend the fried fish and green beans; it's become my go-to order. I usually get takeout, and the staff is always helpful with friendly, efficient service. Next time, I'll definitely dine in because the atmosphere is warm and inviting.

My review is for a to-go order. I was pretty disappointed by how much the food container sizes have shrunk. When paying $19 for basic Thai fried rice, $18 for Pad Kee Mao, and $16 for red curry, I'd at least expect regular-sized to-go containers not portions that feel closer to lunch special sizes. The food itself was decent, but the value for the price was hard to justify.

Okay I see the hype now as to why Sala Thai is loved by many! I typically don't eat out for Thai food since I eat it at home, however my friend insisted we go here after a long day of work. Say less if that means I can drive home without being hangry on the road and unwind by eating delicious food!! Service was better than typical Asian restaurants and it was a packed house around 6pm on Friday! Their coffee tastes pretty authentic to me and I loved it. Their portion for Panang Curry was tiny and I easily could've ate it by myself oopsies. I will say the flavor was spot on and a tad bit sweeter which I didn't mind. You can't go wrong with their Sala Thai chicken which my friend really enjoyed and their Pad Thai was not dry at all!!! Not many shrimps were included, so a little meh but oh well. Would give 5 stars if there was more protein and the portions were better. I still give this place my stamp of approval for coming close to home cooked food and will be back!

Beef Pad Thai

Got the beef pad thai and it was fine, it's of the more tomato based variant. They offer Thai tea and green Thai tea too which is nice. Food and service are prompt - nothing special, but good enough. The restaurant is not that big but they do have seating for larger parties. However, not sure if it's because of the spacing/arrangement of the tables or because it's a small restaurant but it was incredibly hard to hear anyone talk even if they were across the table. The restaurant was probably at 80% capacity but I felt like I had to raise my voice just to be heard across the table. I could see this being a good takeout or quick drop in spot to eat, but if you're trying to talk and catch up then the noise level might be an issue.

Pad thai 0/10 and why would they give me a spoon...

Bad pad thai. Served with a spoon for some reason. Service was kinda bad too. Don't do it

Crispy Fish with Sweet Garlic Sauce

OMG!! The food and service was AMAZING! Literally 10/10 for everything. :D My bf and I ordered the pineapple fried rice w/o shrimp and crispy fish w/ sweet garlic sauce. Both the dishes were delicious! The fried rice was perfectly flavored. Each bite was sensational. The fish was so crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. The sweet garlic sauce paired so well with it. The workers were so kind and often checked in with us to see if everything was good. And the food came out pretty quick. I'm going to be thinking about this place and the crispy fish nonstop. Sala Thai deserves all the customers they can get. If you're ever in the area pls pls pls go try this restaurant and these two dishes!!!

Pad Thai Beef Spicy
Nancy L.

First time ordering from here - I ordered the pad thai spicy with beef. It was solid and had good flavor. Portions were fairly smaller than I expected for the price of $18 for a medium container. The beef was a little on the dry side. I would've preferred some more beef to increase the ratio a little bit. I tried some of the crispy fish from a friend and it was so good with the sauce!! The crunchy and crispy outside texture was perfect and the fish was juicy inside. Next time I'd get this one for myself. I also liked the pad see ew that I tried a bite of. I ordered to go so i was able to come in and pick up the food pretty efficiently and quickly. It was a nice dining area inside with a lot of tables and booths. Overall I'd say thai elephant has better value for the price but the flavors are pretty good!

We've been here a few times to Sala Thai 3. Though, we usually go to the original Sala Thai location. Parking is plentiful in this plaza. The restaurant is smaller and intimate. The decor is simple with a few paintings/pictures. One restroom only. Pad See Ew: Stir fried flat noodle with egg, broccoli, and choice of meat (chicken) with sweet soy sauce (3.5/5). The noodles were soft yet had a nice chew to it. The other ingredients like the broccoli and meat was sparse. Spicy String Bean: Sauteed string bean, carrot, bell pepper, and basil with choice of meat (beef) in chili garlic sauce (3.5/5). The default spiciness is mild, which it was. Though, they did bring out the condiments of Thai chili, etc. The string beans were cooked perfectly. The beef needed more tenderizing. Crispy Fish With Sweet Garlic Sauce: Battered and deep fried filet rex sole topped with sala Thai sweet garlic sauce (5/5). Definitely a Sala Thai favorite! Sauce goes well on Jasmine Rice too! Yellow Curry (chicken): Yellow curry paste in a coconut milk with onion and potato (4/5). Creamy, thick curry waiting to be spooned over the steamed rice on your plate. Jasmine Rice (4/5). Cooked perfectly. Thai Ice Coffee (4/5) - i like it the way they prepare it here. My friend likes it sweeter and asked for more condensed milk.

Basil Fried Rice

Good thai food, very crowded on a sun night and a bit loud. Food came out pretty quickly. I tried the drunken noodle, panang curry tofu and the basil fried rice. Panang curry was a generous serving and was quite good - best dish we ordered. Drunken noodle tofu was second best, we ordered it spicy and they delivered. Don't have too much to say about it, was pretty good but didn't blow my mind. Basil fried rice - could've used a bit more flavor imo but still very good , no major issues. Overall solid place for thai food, would go back for a not crowded occasion but wouldn't go out of my way to get it again.

It's a great quick lunch place! No long waiting time for food and service is great. The staff is so attentive! Food is great! The crispy fish is surprisingly good with the sweet soy sauce. The creamy soup we ordered (forgot the name) was a little salty to my taste but I like the flavor. I personally like this one over the other location in Fremont. It's closer to the freeway so it's easier to get to!

My favorite thai place closed after the pandemic, and I've still been searching for a new go-to in the Bay Area. Decided to try Sala Thai as its popped up on my yelp a couple times and I was not disappointed! The pad thai and drunken noodles were both great, and the panang curry was delicious. I just wish the curry had a little bit more meat. The roti (unpictured) was fantastic, but very small for the price. The search for the best thai food continues, but this place definitely satisfies the cravings!

Crab Fried Rice & Crispy Fish with Sweet Garlic Sauce
May T.

My go-to place to satisfy my craving for Thai food! Always greeted with friendly smiles as you walk in. They go above and beyond for service. Very casual and great for smaller groups. We got our usual spread. Roti Canai, crab fried rice, crispy fish & beef pad sew ew. Everything was perfect and consistently made. We can taste the love put into each dish. If you like your food with a lil heat like me, ask politely for the spice rack. Overall great place!

Seemed like takeout orders were just as busy as the dine-in option! Ordered online through the QR code, though it seemed like we had the option to order in-person when a server came up to our table. However, we were able to pay online as well, which was a nice time saver. We are regulars and have already developed our favorites: Crispy Fish, Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Crab Fried Rice, Green Curry. We wanted to mix things up a little and order things we have never gotten before, and we have now developed new favorites! The Pumpkin Curry was my favorite: the pumpkin offering a nice sweetness and texture. The Eggplant dish came with a piece of crispy fish which was to our surprise! The seafood (shrimp, squid, scallops) was an interesting combination with the fatty eggplant. Probably my least favorite of the three as it seemed a little incohesive, though we appreciated the sauce being in a separate bowl as to not make the eggplant soggy. The Kang Jerd soup was delightfully light and full of briny, full flavored broth. My mom's favorite by far. She is usually reluctant to take the last serving/portion when eating family style. Not with the soup! The fact that we chose three seemingly random items on the menu and having each of them be winners is just a testament to how solid the food is here at Sala Thai!

My mom and I came in on a Monday around 5:30PM and ordered a few dishes and a dessert to share. We had the yellow curry plate, Pad Kee Mao, & Spicy Eggplant plate. I asked for them to make the yellow curry extra spicy. Usually the places I go to make it super mild even upon this request, but Line Thai was the closest to my standard of heat. Really delicious! The Spicy Eggplant & Pad Kee Mao were great as well, but similar to other places I've tried. The Yellow Curry still stood out to me the most. We then had the Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. The lady told us that their mangos aren't that ripe right now, but I thought it was still solid. Nothing crazy but still good. Prices here are much cheaper than the average Thai restaurant in the Bay, but the tiny portions reflect the price point. Still plenty enough food for one leftover meal! Place was basically empty the entire time aside from 1 or 2 takeout orders. Makes me sad because I really think they serve up some good Thai food! As far as ambiance goes, it was particularly warm when we dined in which was a bit uncomfortable. Otherwise, it's just a casual restaurant; nothing fancy.

The roti was perfectly light and not oily at all, which was a real highlight. The spice level is authentic, not toned down like in many Americanized Thai restaurants, and the flavors felt true to traditional Thai cooking.
