I decided to try the catfish sandwich and fries. It was just ok for me. I asked for no tomato but received one. And maybe next time I would request fried onions and not raw. I did make them aware of the mistake... and the cashier was apologetic.

Was looking for some affordable local flavors. This was a cool spot. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking for the most part, typical for this part of town. Seating: Indoor seating with room for about 20 people inside the market. Vibes: You're right in the heart of Old Town / Fells Point -- the touristy but charming part of Baltimore. I dig the vintage brick roads, the historic feel, and the mix of locals and visitors passing through. The space sits inside a lively market (1640 Aliceanna St) with that true Baltimore seafood vibe -- casual, approachable, and full of movement. It's not fine dining; it's flavor-first, no-nonsense, and welcoming. Great for a quick grab-and-go or to sit down for a casual meal. FOOD/DRINKS: Crab Soup (A-Ok) Simple but hearty. It reminded me of a tomato-based soup with crab mixed in -- nothing too fancy, but warm and satisfying. I appreciated the richness and good amount of crab meat. I'm more of a clam chowder fan, so next time I might go that route, but this was still solid. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Quick, friendly, and efficient. The staff clearly know what they're doing and keep things moving without losing that personal touch. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Good prices, solid flavors, and a classic Baltimore seafood feel. Sal and Son's Seafood isn't flashy, but it's genuine -- a go-to for a comforting bowl and a true local experience. I'll be back to try their other dishes next time I'm in the area. TIPS: * Check what's on special -- they rotate and have plenty of combo options.

Tried out the catfish sandwich and the crab rolls. Both were fried and not too oily which I enjoyed. I really liked the aioli that came with the rolls to the point I poured It on my fish sandwich. The fresh onions can be a bit much so you may want them to add less. Catfish was crispy and juicy too.

I found this food market online after another foodie raved about Sal & Sons' fish sandwiches--so of course, I had to try one for myself! When we arrived, the guy with the dimples greeted us with the warmest smile and so much patience as we tried to figure out what we wanted. He and his coworkers were super friendly, chatting with us while making sure every customer felt welcomed. I even noticed how kind they were to everyone else--yes, I was being a little nosey . Here's the funny part: we didn't realize we were talking to the owner at first! He was chatting nearby, so we asked him to clean off a table for us--then someone said, "That's Sal!" I laughed and said, "Sal, I've been calling your name for five minutes and you didn't come!" He smiled, sat down, and talked with us for a few minutes like we'd known him forever. He was serving food, cleaning tables, and interacting with everyone--just so humble and down-to-earth. I loved that energy. Now let's talk about the food... AMAZING. My fish sandwich was fried to perfection--so good I couldn't even finish it and had to take the rest home. My friend loved her rockfish, and my other friend went in on her red snapper (and still had plenty left for later). The market itself was spotless and didn't have that typical "fish market" smell, which was a big plus. I'll definitely be back!

Seriously, I don't understand why this place is averaging a 4 star rating. This place blew me away in the best way possible. The worker was very patient when taking our order even when we had a little conversation between ordering. The food came out within 10 minutes and I believe the manager came out to make sure we enjoyed our food. The crab dip + chips could've been warmer. But there's no doubt that the presentation and TASTE will knock your socks off. I would come back again and again! Not too salty. The chips were loaded. The fries might not look like much but the sweet potato fries were actually so good. Not a gross, soggy type. It was 8/10. The Mac n cheese + crab was out of this world! So much flavor with the cheese and crab combo. Noodles were cooked properly and soft. I'd say the ambiance is like any market. Not quiet but not too noisy. I overheard some lady say that there wasn't enough salt in her food which surprised me. But I genuinely thought the food was superb !!! Will definitely come back here to show my friends.

I went in for a Fish Sandwich but opted for Fish and Fries . The Fish is cooked to order , seasoned well and Fried to perfection . It's located at Broadway Market. They also offer different types of Fish *All cooked to order , Huge Shrimp , Crab Cakes and sides . Make sure to pick up one of their Homemade Drinks too .

Great find as i was strolling through the Canton area. Its located within this the food hall/market. What I enjoyed most about this establishment was the ability to select the fish i wanted and the style in which it was prepared. You also have the option to buy it uncooked. The staff is really nice, quick and knowledgeable. As it is a hall, you have different seating options and ample amount of space to enjoy your meal .

I stopped by here a couple of Saturdays ago with my wife and twins for lunch. Since my wife likes seafood, we looked for a seafood restaurant in Fell's Point on Yelp and happened to find Sal and Sons. This restaurant is located in the Broadway Market, a type of food hall. As such, Sal & Sons is set up more like a food stall with some high-top seating, while there are plenty of standard tables throughout the market. For lunch that day, I decided to go with a fried oyster sandwich, while my wife chose the crab mac and cheese. We also decided to share the Maryland fries and ordered a cheese quesadilla for our kids. I tried the fried oyster sandwich first and thought it was fantastic. The brioche bun was toasted, buttery, and soft, while the fried oysters were super crispy and flavorful. The lettuce and onions added a nice freshness to what was otherwise a rich sandwich. Next, I tried the Maryland fries. The fries themselves were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The flavor was good overall, with a strong garlic presence. What I didn't taste, however, was any Old Bay, which is odd considering that's what I assumed made them "Maryland fries." Honestly, I think they forgot it. My wife enjoyed her crab mac and cheese and was impressed with the amount of crab in it. Last but certainly not least, the quesadilla was nicely cooked and both of our kids enjoyed it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Everything we had here was fantastic and I would love to try more of their menu.

So I am doing work right across the street and decided to have a quick lunch break today! I'd been pressed to see what types of food were inside this food hub! Walked to the rear and locked in on this spot! I ordered Salmon tacos since i wasnt trying to stay long or eat too much..I still had work to do! But I did add beans and rice to my order and it was pretty good!! The food came out really fast too! The place was clean, the servers were nice and attentive which is always a plus! I'd definitely return if I'm in the area again! I always amazing intrigued by foods that don't have a whole lot going on with the aesthetics or plating but taste phenomenal!!! Try it!

Went there after Fells Point Fest. They were out of snapper as a few people ahead of me asked for it and I overheard and it sounds like you need to call ahead for it? Anyways I got the jambalaya. It was really tasty and portion was good but if its supposed to be shrimp and chicken jambalaya, I expect more than 3 pieces of shrimp. Docking a star for that. I also shared some clams with my boyfriend and it was fresh; the horseradish they use really has a good kick to it. While its tucked away inside the market its a place to check out even though the Choptank is directly across from it.

I ordered a crab cake sandwich and it came with fries. I asked for it on a brioche roll and it was delicious! Sandwich could use some condiment in my personal opinion. Service was prompt and they even brought it to our table since we sat closer. It's inside Broadway Market so depending on the time you go, it may or may not be loud.

Fast, efficient service and great seafood! We did takeout, and the fish was still crispy and the fries hot when we got home. The food was light, tasty, and not greasy at all. Broadway Market is a nice spot with plenty of seating, and the menu has lots of options. Can't wait to go back and try more!

Located inside Broadway Market. This is a good and convenient seafood place to grab lunch. I've been here a few times and each time, I've tried something different. The food quality varies depending what you get. Their crabcake is decent for the price and their fried dishes can get a bit too fried in my opinion. I recently came here for the steamed shrimp and fried seafood platter. The platter was large but most everything looked and tasted overly fried. The steamed shrimp was quite good and there were plenty of large pieces. The workers here are friendly and great. Prices overall are pretty good. This is a really good spot for lunches!

OMG!!! Soooo good! I can't even fully come up with the words. Basically, delicious, unpretentious food at a great price! The raw oysters were delicious and sweet, as well as super clean indicating a very talented shucker. We also had the fried oysters. As someone who typically doesn't care for fried oysters, I can confidently say these are the best I have ever had. Sadly, they were out of clams, so no raw clams for us. Two people had the fish tacos and three of us shared an order of shrimp tacos. All were perfectly prepared and cooked. Their homemade hot sauce was on point. As there were five of us, the food just kept on coming. An order of mussels was light and flavorful. They didn't make the mistake many do with overloading on butter or oil. Lastly, softshell crab sandwiches which were fried, but barely so. The crabs were also some of the largest I have seen this season. The gentlemen working the counter were absolutely delightful, friendly, and amazing with their service. This was a perfect spot to hit before the Orioles game as long as you get there early enough. Table seating is limited so you might need to wait a bit. But, trust me, it is definitely worth it!! read more

This might be my low key go to seafood joint! Super cool little shop. Lots of options. Workers are all super nice. Closed on Sunday's :( my first attempt was on a Sunday. But I'm glad I walked by because I seen the soft shell crab sandwich special for 10.00 on the door! We will def come back. Prices all were reasonable and you can watch them filet your fish right in front of you! We were the only customers in there so my crab sandwich came out super quick! Delicious ! read more

Had the fish & chips as well as the crab cake sandwich and both were really delicious, especially for the price! The crab cake sandwich does not include fries, but they're only $3 for a side if you'd like (which you ought to...they're delightful and seasoned liberally with old bay). The fish was so flaky and tender and the breading wasn't too greasy; it was a substantially sized piece of fish as well; lots of fries! It does come with a lime not a lemon which I found strange, but maybe it's just their *thing*? Both meals were obviously fresh, overall, and it was a great, easy carry out experience. The counter is a legitimate fish counter located in the center within Broadway Market; parking can be very tricky. Cant wait to go back & try more menu items! read more

One of the best fish sandwiches I've ever had. I came in here not knowing what to expect and was blown away. The place is tiny but with an amazing selection of fresh fish. I literally asked the men behind the counter to just make a sandwich with whatever they thought would taste best. The result was so delicious, fresh and light, I could have easily went for their tacos but I just did not have enough time for more food. I think this will just be my Baltimore go-to spot. It is open on Sunday. Pick your fish and have it cooked fried or grilled. We picked a branzino and asked to have it grilled whole head-on butterfly in salt, pepper and olive oil. We Sat at the bar and saw how the fish was cooked. It was done perfectly. Staffs were friendly and helpful. Maryland seafood soup was full of fish and crab meat - it is tomato base and it is a bit overpowering the flavour of the seafood but overall it is hearty and filling. read more

Only came here for a quick lunch while visiting a friend from out of town. We each got a crab cake platter with fries - this turned out to be a crab cake sandwich on a bun with lettuce and tomato which is fine, but should be noted that it wasn't a stand-alone crab cake. The crab itself was fresh and tasty, though not of the lump crab variety. We also got the fried calamari which was very well done and the shrimp taco special... which was not quite up to par as the tortillas were dry and took away from the content of the taco. Given the price you pay and the freshness of the seafood, it was overall a solid place to grab a quick bite! read more

Hell to yes. Im not qualified to opine on crab cakes as I'm from DC. But I've lived in MD for years and know my Cream Of Crab and theirs was excellent. Whole fish served fried, a crab cake for half the price around the corner and the kind of "good soup" that can soothe the soul say, if, hypothetically you were played by Adam Driver in an HBO series and you know it's ultimately not gonna work out. If I could put less than one star I would. I traveled an hour to purchase Octopus. When I got there I told them I needed five pounds for my recipe and they told me it was $9.99 a pound so I ordered 5!!!!! This recipe was for a special dinner I was going to prepare for my 10 year anniversary. When I defrosted it to measure the ingredients for the recipe I weighed the defrosted octopus to discover that it only weighed 1.3lbs I called the establishment to discuss the problem and they proceeded to tell me they weighed it off the truck frozen......... so what they are selling you is frozen octopus and water!!!! Unbelievable, needless to say my dinner was RUINED. I would never recommend this business to anyone. read more

I was looking for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised at Sal's. I had the Fish and Chips and the fish was piping hot and crispy, as were the fries that accompanied It. Watch out for some fish bones, though! My friend had the crab cake sandwich and it was crispy on the outside and tasty and soft inside. I would come back to this place. We ordered a Maryland crab soup and the soft shell crab sandwiches. Both are amazing, lot of crab in the soup with the right amount of seasoning and presentation is good too. They give you a whole soft shell crab, seasoned deep fried. Highly recommend and a must try read more

I've been happily working my way down Sal and Sons menu. It's hard to mess up fresh seafood, just a little salt and pepper, and a squeeze of lemon. That's all, Oh; you have to know how long to cook it so it's not dry and mealy. Sal and Sons knows this very well. I met Sal (the father) and little Sal (the son who is taller than the father :)), so it's really a Sal and Sons operation. On one of my visits, Sal (the father) recommended the fish soup. I got to talking to Sal and realized he is a fishmonger and a purveyor of fresh seafood to local establishments. That's really his business and his sons run it, I gather this is his hobby and passion, and has access to fresh seafood :). And Sal explains to me why a good seafood soup needs at least 3 types of fish...think Bouillabaisse or sopa di' pescatore...Sal is absolutely-positively right. If I may use my teenage daughter's term...OMG...that seafood soup was just as good as the Bouillabaisse I had in Marseille or the fisherman's stew in San Francisco's wharf. I'm not saying the same recipe, totally different recipes, but OMG, that was an exquisite and delightful dish. I ended up thanking Sal for this creation. He nailed it. I'm sort of bummed, I was happily working my way down the menu and now I have a dilema, soup or menu? read more

Oh my goodness amazing!! I am so glad that this site exists! I found this place scrolling through while planning a weekend trip to Baltimore. If the seafood were any fresher, it would still be out on a boat at sea. We ordered a dried blue crab sandwich, fish and chips, soup and we were completely stuffed. Everything was so fresh. The fish was flaky yet not greasy and large filets. The fried blue crab was out of this world. Crispy, well seasoned and it honestly didn't need any bread, or sauce or anything to accompany it. It was perfect on its own. The fries were hot and crispy seasoned with Old Bay. The soup was so filling and had a ton of seafood in it. I am so glad that we found this place because I know that we will be back next year! read more

Dined in and it was absolutely delicious! A hole in the wall joint and kind of hard to find, but luckily we found it. Best crab cake I've ever had and the mussels were HUUUUGE. To top it off, the service was beyond awesome. Can't wait to come back to Baltimore and eat here again. read more

EXCELLENT shrimp tacos. mexico in murrland. crab soup was a bit skimpy on the crab but still filling. will be back with friends and boyfriend. mexican seafood is what every city's gastronomic offerings need. read more

A treasure that has yet to be discovered to the level that other seafood joints go, Sal's is now my go to when I come to Baltimore. Affordable, fresh and delicious, the food is super tasty and satisfying. The service is surprisingly good since it's such a casual place. I came here since we didn't want to wait for the more popular places in the area and the photos on yelp were enough to entice me. The seafood looked fresh and appetizing. The place is very casual but their service is good and quick. My friend and I ordered the garlic butter mussels to share, I got the crabcake with old bay fries and she got the shrimp tacos. Everything was absolutely delicious. The crabcake was flavorful and the fries seasoning was on point. Even her shrimp tacos were well grilled and seasoned. The garlic butter mussels were as good as we hoped for it to be. All for a much more affordable place. I haven't raved about something being so good for so long so it was nice to enjoy this meal. How is it that this place has less than 10 reviews and hat there isn't a standing line to order food that is 20 mins long? I'm from KC and see these types of lines a BBQ joints. Shocked his hole in the wall doesn't have the same. I ordered a crab cake and fish tacos. I spent less than $25. The tacos Mexican street taco style fish tacos. Not San Diego style slaw tacos. First things first is service, This place is the most professional and magnificent experience I ever had for a mom and pop ( or "pop and son" more so). Sal Was actually at the front, and so personable. He helped get an understanding of the layout of the restaurant. You can pick your fish/seafood classic market style and decide how you'd like it crafted. There were also specials that me and my friend chose from. It was hard not to order half the menu. They give a enormous amount for crab dip and fries for the price (which is the best I've had in Baltimore). Will easily find my self being a regular to try more things . I noticed every one say "reasonably priced" the place is mad cost efficient for the phenomenal experience they place out! read more

One star is too many. The worse customer service I ever experienced. My coworkers and I walked down from Hopkins on our lunch break. We were not given cocktail or tartar sauce with our SEAFOOD. When asked. We were told it's $1 for a small container of each AND the guy at the counter wanted to check our bags to make sure we didn't have any. read more

As a chef, I seek out the best in every city and love to find unexpected gems. Sal's Seafood in the Fells Point section of Baltimore is exactly that. It's the cleanest restaurant I've ever stepped foot in, serving the freshest seafood dishes. It's a seafood market near the waterfront, so you know the fish is fresh. I ordered a local Bmore specialty - A Lake Trout Sandwich, with spicy house tarter sauce, which came on grilled bread, with fresh lettuce and tomato and it was heavenly, the trout grilled with the lightest batter imaginable. Owner Sal and Chef Orlando stopped by to offer me a taste of Ceviche of fish and shrimp in a zesty citrus sauce and a couple of freshly shucked, plump & briny oysters. Both samples were amazing. This is hands down my top recommend in Bmore. Fish sandwich and a drink came to $7.17 - an unreal bargain in this city. Try Chef Orlando's imaginative daily specials and watch him cook in the open style kitchen. Friendly Staff too! Go to Sal and Sons!!! Amazing fresh seafood caught daily. Great prices on some wonderful soft shell and shrimp! Oh and that Maryland soup! Gotta have it. Go visit Sal. He's always there. Owner for 41 years and he will happily show you all the fresh fish. Love this place! read more

Awful, awful food and service. The oysters were not fresh and the calamari was the worst calamari I've ever eaten: frozen, dry, re-fried. I complained to the team and they just shrugged their shoulders and said this is how they make it. They did nothing to refund us or offer to give us a different dish. Would not ever recommend to anyone. read more

A hidden gem, targeted mostly at locals. You'd do well to skip the touristy places closer to the harbor with crappier and more expensive food (looking at you, Bertha's Mussels) and come here instead. They also have a fish counter with a ton of fresh fish, some whole (yay!) and some filleted. If you only get one thing here, get the fried oysters. Well-spiced batter that's thin but crunchy and not greasy, so they fried the things at hot enough temperature. Comes with a really tasty spicy mayo dip and your choice of several Mexican hot sauces, tartar sauce, Old Bay etc. Other things I've had here: * Ceviche. Please note this is ECUADORIAN style ceviche, with squid and tomato. So don't be disappointed if you were expecting Peruvian ceviche with lime juice and fish meat. It is still very citrusy and refreshing on hot days. * Raw Oysters These are large and briny East Coast oysters...I probably wouldn't come back for these. Service was also really attentive! They do unfortunately close early, at 6 PM, so get here early or stop by for lunch. read more

This was the perfect place for our family! Everyone found something to LOVE. We ordered a crab cake to share and my son declared it the best ever! I agree it melted in my mouth. We also shared calamari and then proceeded with shrimp and fish tacos for my kids who gobbled them up! Very reasonably priced for amazing quality fresh seafood! So it cost me $10-15 to for a plastic takeout container. Had I not looked at the customer copy of the bill I would have not only not known but I would have tipped based on the total which already included the additional gratuity charge (which was not disclosed on the merchant copy). This is so unnecessary and ruined what would have been a good experience. They said it was a "sharing charge" which I have experienced and applies when u have another diner with you and u decide to split an entree. Had they disclosed I would at least had the option to finish the meal. The saying "stepping over dollars to pick up pennies " seems to apply as this left such a bad taste I doubt I will return despite the fact the crab cake was delicious and the loaded baked potato was average (hardly loaded) Beware of the hidden gratuity for take home leftovers!!! Update to above: I did follow up with Angie this morning and she was very kind and offered to credit back my card for the extra gratuity. She also explained that I was misled about the "sharing charge" but they do automatically add 15% gratuity regardless of party size or quality of service. So I would give 4 stars for the food quality and 1 star for the way in which they present and charge gratuity. Tipping should remain at the discretion of the diner based on service and food quality otherwise just get rid of tipping and raise your prices

If you're in the area, Sal & Son's is a must-try! The seafood is incredibly fresh, caught the same morning it's served, and it's both affordable and delicious. Located inside a market, this hidden gem is run by the kind and welcoming owner, Sal, who even introduced us to his sons who help with the family business. Delicious food is served here! They have a great crab sandwich combo. It was quite tasty. I heard that Maryland is famous for its crabs before I moved there, so I was quite eager to check this eatery!
