We had such a weird experience here. When we entered we were asked if we would be okay with dining off of paper plates. No big deal to us -- I use paper plates every day of my life -- so we sat down, thrown menus and then within 6 seconds were grumpily asked what we wanted to order. We ordered, however, our orders weren't written down, which scared me because my orders tend to always come out wrong... But our waitress seemed confident in her memory so I wasn't able to insult her by asking her to write anything down. Lo and behold, one of my orders was wrong, but she claimed that I ORDERED IT WRONG (I order this everywhere I go, the exact same way, and it's never confused).... and I just apologized but didn't accept it for food allergy purposes. She did have the kitchen remake it but she wasn't happy about it. I get it, but also, I ordered it exactly how I wanted it.... Any who, the rest of our food was thrown at us when ready... And honestly, it all looked really good so while I was weirdly uncomfortable with how we were being treated, I also didn't care because the food looked delicious... And it was! Shockingly enough, it was actually some of the tastiest and freshest sushi/sashimi my husband and I have ever had! So much so that we had to order more when we finished our first batch of food because our eyes are way bigger than our stomachs. The waitstaff NEVER lightened up the entire time we were there... And my husband and I were just so confused by it because he and I weren't rude one bit. We always treat people with respect and courtesy, so we just didn't really understand. Any who... We finally wound up being done, paid, and left...... I 100% know that this dining experience will be one I remember forever and I will be forever confused by it, ha ha ha.

Good: Decent place for sushi given the location. American dream roll, Colombia roll and Fuji roll are very good. Hibachi and Udon are good. Bad: The cashier woman that takes orders is super rude sometimes lol, but I can't imagine being a sushi restaurant cashier is that great so I can sympathize with that, and she's been there as long as I can remember going there for like 10+ years. It also became take out only during the pandemic and they never reopened dining. The only bad thing about the food itself is that the same roll can taste totally different the next time you get it.

From left to right you have the Godzilla roll, pink lady and American Dream.

After driving to Litchfield and looking at Yelp reviews, I felt inclined to try Sakura. From the parking lot, things look sketch, however they had a Budweiser sign and I knew we would be okay. Front door is stunning, colorful lights on the ceiling are amazing, DDR inspired tracks add to the quaint but classy environment. Tiffany greeted us with an option of table or booth, we chose booth. She then complimented my hair and brought a smile to my face. She promptly brought us our drinks and asked if we needed anything. All I needed was a recommendation on the best roll to try, she stated the American dream was "sooooo good", so we tried it. We ordered the Godzilla roll, pink lady and American dream. All of which were incredible. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone stopping in good ol' Litchfield. Thanks Tiffany for your wonderful suggestion and kind words. You are the gem Litchfield.

I feel like I have really high expectations for sushi. I'm originally from Chicago and was really wary of eating here at first. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was very quick and pleasant. We ordered 5 different things; California roll, Alaska roll, tuna roll, red dragon roll, and salmon sashimi. Food came out really quickly. Waited only about 10 minutes. It was presented wonderfully and was absolutely delicious. So happy I ate here and will be going again.

The service here is fast and friendly, the decor is modern and welcoming, and the food is always excellent. I highly recommend their rainbow roll, tuna sunset roll, snow mountain roll, udon, and the crabmeat tempura.

The best restaurant in Litchfield, hands down! The quality of this sushi is superb! We eat here at least once a month. We have never been disappointed. This place is clean and modern. The people who run this place are friendly. The service is always spot on and fast. If you can't make it in to sit down, order for pick up. Great place, give them a try. Love the gyoza, snow mountain roll and house fried rice.

We sat down and a waitress came to us for our drink orders and our food order. She was friendly, helpful and attentive throughout the meal, refilling drinks, and asking if we needed anything. Our food came out quickly. It was hot. It was fresh and it tasted good. Two people in our family ordered the general Tao and we really liked the sauce. The crab Rangoon's were a nice size with a good amount of filling. Overall we were very happy with our meal and left satisfied.

The place itself is always clean, the staff is friendly, and the food comes out fast and piping hot. You can tell they care about quality -- everything from the sushi to the moo goo gai pan is spot-on. But that Crazy Salmon Roll? That's next-level. I've eaten sushi all over, and somehow this little spot in Vandalia nailed it better than most big-city places. Do yourself a favor: skip the usual, order the Crazy Salmon Roll, and thank me later. You haven't truly lived until you've had one.

Then one day, as I went to a business next door, I saw the word Tempura on their windows. That opened the opportunity for me to consider them for a meal. My first visit I tried their Fried Calamari and the Beef Fried Rice. Both were outstanding. The Calamari was better than some of the Calamari that I have had at a sit-down restaurant. Going forward, when I am craving some Fried Rice, I'll be ordering it from, Toko Sushi. My second visit, I enjoyed the Deep Fried Crab Jalapeño and an order of Chicken Teriyaki. Both were outstanding. I learned that I didn't need both. They were large portions, the Jalapeño appetizer can easily be a meal for me. The chicken with the Teriyaki was tender and flavorful. I dealt with two different cashiers on my visits and both were extremely professional. I was impressed with the food and service. The service and workers there are always on top of their game. I am going to have to wait and see how the restaurant will fare when the rest of Godfrey finds out about it. HOWEVER, I have been asking the servers an management about including nice Japanese beer on their menu. So far they have turned down my suggestion. It can't be because of a liquor license because they offer a fairly extensive wine and saki selection. Due to that, I am afraid that we will not be returning to this restaurant, and I suggest that you and others who would enjoy a nice Japanese beer with their sushi do the same until they offer it. I even offered to accept a corkage fee if I brought my own.

I just moved to town this June. This place is walking distance from my home. I want it to be good,…read moreI need it to be good. I do not want to have to drive to another town to get, what my wife calls "strip mall Chinese". This initial review is for my lunch time visit on 2 JUL 2025. I got carry out Hunan Pork, and Hot & Sour soup, as a combo,so it came with fried rice and an egg roll. I notice that the most recent reviews (glowing) were from 2023. Things can change, they can change overnight with a change of cook/staff or ownership. Someone local with more insight will eventually be able to fill me in. It is a nice enough place, overall. A bit run down, and a little bit cliche in terms of the decorating. With some light maintenance and a bit of editing on the decor, it could be a charming little spot, in a small Midwestern town. I am trying to be kind, becuase I have been fortunate enough to have travelled the world, and have gone to many different levels of restuarants. I like "simple" americanized Chinese food sometimes, it is something I actually look for when I got o different towns. The good; hot & sour soup was very nice, just tangy enough from the vinegar and just spicy enough from pepper (didn't detect any hot sauce flavors) to be good. There were mushrooms, bamboo, and a bit of tofu. I missed the drizzled egg that I have had in others versions. The could have been better; the Hunan pork was very one note, salt, was tender and good portion in the dish, but that just salt flavoring made it a bit hard to enjoy. The sauce was okay, and the vegetables were well prepared and balanced. The egg roll was an egg roll, if not mass produced, it just wasn't made with real attention, it was a bit hollow. The bad: fried rice, the texture was just plain wrong from anything I have had over many years and came to believe was correctly made. There were no "chunks" of anything, just vaguely browned rice (soy sauce perhaps). I will come back, I will try other things. I will order from the high end of the menu and see if perhaps they simply , for complex reasons I'm sure, decided to mail it in on the weekday lunch combos (places do that). I want Bamboo Garden to be better. I want it to be a reliable place for me to get good "strip mall Chinese."
