We sat down and a waitress came to us for our drink orders and our food order. She was friendly, helpful and attentive throughout the meal, refilling drinks, and asking if we needed anything. Our food came out quickly. It was hot. It was fresh and it tasted good. Two people in our family ordered the general Tao and we really liked the sauce. The crab Rangoon's were a nice size with a good amount of filling. Overall we were very happy with our meal and left satisfied.

Fresh, rich salmon wrapped in a perfect balance of flavor and texture that hits every craving you didn't even know you had. The place itself is always clean, the staff is friendly, and the food comes out fast and piping hot. You can tell they care about quality -- everything from the sushi to the moo goo gai pan is spot-on. But that Crazy Salmon Roll? That's next-level. I've eaten sushi all over, and somehow this little spot in Vandalia nailed it better than most big-city places. Do yourself a favor: skip the usual, order the Crazy Salmon Roll, and thank me later. You haven't truly lived until you've had one.

The Chef was far more obnoxious than entertaining and it got even worse when he left our seating area and began cooking for a large group of 20 something's that were closer to his own age. I was expecting the classic Teppanyaki-style steakhouse with a humble but entertaining chef. What we got was an Asian kid being silly. I'm sure the casually dressed patrons loved the saki being squirted Tijuana style across the table into their mouths, that just wasn't what I was expecting by the decor and need for a reservation.

While i was debating a 2nd bite, i found a long hair. I stopped at 1 bite but really, for the best. The miso soup only tasted of salt and maybe Campbell's? Very mass produced, salty. I did take 2 "bites" of that. The hibachi looked good cooking but the fried rice was so oily. The vegetables very bland - maybe my tastebuds were dulled by the miso. The scallops were decent. The shrimp were fine. The filet was ok but I'm not really sure it was filet and not sirloin. I passed on the yum sauce- i don't find it yummy anywhere. I got ginger sauce which was decent. The Teriyaki was briwn syrup - so sugary sweet with little other taste. I took leftovers, mostly rice and steak, but just shared the steak with my dog and ditched the leftover greasy rice. Overall, just disappointing. My dining companions were nonplussed as well.

I will continue to dine here if the food quality and service remains this nice. If you live in the area you know we lack quality from several of the other restaurants. If anyone leaves a mediocre review just know that it takes time to work out the kinks in a new restaurant. This place seems to have a good work flow figured out. I think this is the perfect size restaurant for such a specific cuisine. They kept up with the pace of the customers and the wait was very reasonable. The prices were fair and the food was fresh. The restaurant was clean and plenty seating. Not to mention the welcoming service is always nice. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. I hope the owners and employees thrive with this little sushi restaurant. I happily welcome them to our community.

Then one day, as I went to a business next door, I saw the word Tempura on their windows. That opened the opportunity for me to consider them for a meal. My first visit I tried their Fried Calamari and the Beef Fried Rice. Both were outstanding. The Calamari was better than some of the Calamari that I have had at a sit-down restaurant. Going forward, when I am craving some Fried Rice, I'll be ordering it from, Toko Sushi. My second visit, I enjoyed the Deep Fried Crab Jalapeño and an order of Chicken Teriyaki. Both were outstanding. I learned that I didn't need both. They were large portions, the Jalapeño appetizer can easily be a meal for me. The chicken with the Teriyaki was tender and flavorful. I dealt with two different cashiers on my visits and both were extremely professional. I was impressed with the food and service. The General Manager Chad McKeen stopped by the table several times as well to check on us. We'd recommend coming here. That ambiance was lovely and modern with a dope bar. The food was great. We started off with the poke nachos and pork gyozas. I had the chimichuri ribeye with wasabi mashed potatoes that came with a flavorful miso and a salad with ginger dressing. My husband had the combination fried rice. Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert so we'll definitely be back to have some. As far as drinks go, he just got a regular lemonade and I had a Mr. Miyagi. It was delicious. It consisted of vodka, blue curacao, melon liqueur, amaretto, lemon juice, pineapple juice, garnished with a cherry and orange. Great experience, great food, great fun. We'll definitely be back. Looking forward to the upcoming food promotion.

Now that I live even farther away, I still love coming here whenever I get the chance to visit the area because they do have delicious food and the owner still remembers me which is great! I have had their barbecued beef sticks which are one of my favorites there, their egg drop soup is pretty good though it has changed over the years. My favorite to order for the longest time is their chicken chop suey. I have also tried their beef and broccoli dish, their beef fried rice is great on its own, their hunan beef and moo goo gai pans are always delicious. The last time I went which was about a month ago, I tried their shrimp with lobster sauce and that was also delicious. I have plans to go there tonight and I can't wait to try out some new dish or pick one of my old favorites! Overall, the food is delicious, the servers and owners are personable and wonderful. There is really nothing to complain about, especially for a Chinese restaurant in a cozy, little town.

I just moved to town this June. This place is walking distance from my home. I want it to be good,…read moreI need it to be good. I do not want to have to drive to another town to get, what my wife calls "strip mall Chinese". This initial review is for my lunch time visit on 2 JUL 2025. I got carry out Hunan Pork, and Hot & Sour soup, as a combo,so it came with fried rice and an egg roll. I notice that the most recent reviews (glowing) were from 2023. Things can change, they can change overnight with a change of cook/staff or ownership. Someone local with more insight will eventually be able to fill me in. It is a nice enough place, overall. A bit run down, and a little bit cliche in terms of the decorating. With some light maintenance and a bit of editing on the decor, it could be a charming little spot, in a small Midwestern town. I am trying to be kind, becuase I have been fortunate enough to have travelled the world, and have gone to many different levels of restuarants. I like "simple" americanized Chinese food sometimes, it is something I actually look for when I got o different towns. The good; hot & sour soup was very nice, just tangy enough from the vinegar and just spicy enough from pepper (didn't detect any hot sauce flavors) to be good. There were mushrooms, bamboo, and a bit of tofu. I missed the drizzled egg that I have had in others versions. The could have been better; the Hunan pork was very one note, salt, was tender and good portion in the dish, but that just salt flavoring made it a bit hard to enjoy. The sauce was okay, and the vegetables were well prepared and balanced. The egg roll was an egg roll, if not mass produced, it just wasn't made with real attention, it was a bit hollow. The bad: fried rice, the texture was just plain wrong from anything I have had over many years and came to believe was correctly made. There were no "chunks" of anything, just vaguely browned rice (soy sauce perhaps). I will come back, I will try other things. I will order from the high end of the menu and see if perhaps they simply , for complex reasons I'm sure, decided to mail it in on the weekday lunch combos (places do that). I want Bamboo Garden to be better. I want it to be a reliable place for me to get good "strip mall Chinese."
