So I'm from Chicagoland and was in Litchfield for a few days for work. I've been on the road a lot for work lately and had grown tired of the typical chains near the hotels, so I went searching for something more refreshing. Mind you, I was hesitant about ordering sushi in the middle of a small town, but the reviews were good. I had the Miso Soup, Seaweed Salad, Spicy Tuna Roll and Wasabi Roll. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I've had plenty of sushi in my life and everything I had tasted fresh. The miso soup wasn't overly salty and had plenty of tofu. The seaweed salad was refreshing. Both of the rolls were good, but I enjoyed the wasabi roll the most. I will agree that the atmosphere when you walk in is a little... different. They confirm if you're okay with eating on paper plates, which is fine by me. They checked on me often and were friendly, but not overly warm. We had such a weird experience here. When we entered we were asked if we would be okay with dining off of paper plates. No big deal to us -- I use paper plates every day of my life -- so we sat down, thrown menus and then within 6 seconds were grumpily asked what we wanted to order. We ordered, however, our orders weren't written down, which scared me because my orders tend to always come out wrong... But our waitress seemed confident in her memory so I wasn't able to insult her by asking her to write anything down. Lo and behold, one of my orders was wrong, but she claimed that I ORDERED IT WRONG (I order this everywhere I go, the exact same way, and it's never confused).... and I just apologized but didn't accept it for food allergy purposes. She did have the kitchen remake it but she wasn't happy about it. I get it, but also, I ordered it exactly how I wanted it.... Any who, the rest of our food was thrown at us when ready... And honestly, it all looked really good so while I was weirdly uncomfortable with how we were being treated, I also didn't care because the food looked delicious... And it was! Shockingly enough, it was actually some of the tastiest and freshest sushi/sashimi my husband and I have ever had! So much so that we had to order more when we finished our first batch of food because our eyes are way bigger than our stomachs. The waitstaff NEVER lightened up the entire time we were there... And my husband and I were just so confused by it because he and I weren't rude one bit. We always treat people with respect and courtesy, so we just didn't really understand. Any who... We have been very fortunate to have Sakura in our area as the food is always fresh and delicious. We have eaten sushi in many different locations but Sakura is still one of the best. I only wish they would reopen the dining room to full service read more

As others have said, the service is not great. Also, I only get sashimi, and it's really weird that it comes with a tuna roll. I feel like most people getting sashimi don't want a roll--or would order it on their own. Anyway, there really isn't a better option in the area. I found a good place in Edwardsville, so I just get it down there. Anyway, no one got sick and it tasted just fine. I tried (and did not like) the tuna roll, but I'm not the target audience for that. Good: Decent place for sushi given the location. American dream roll, Colombia roll and Fuji roll are very good. Hibachi and Udon are good. Bad: The cashier woman that takes orders is super rude sometimes lol, but I can't imagine being a sushi restaurant cashier is that great so I can sympathize with that, and she's been there as long as I can remember going there for like 10+ years. It also became take out only during the pandemic and they never reopened dining. The only bad thing about the food itself is that the same roll can taste totally different the next time you get it. read more

After driving to Litchfield and looking at Yelp reviews, I felt inclined to try Sakura. From the parking lot, things look sketch, however they had a Budweiser sign and I knew we would be okay. Front door is stunning, colorful lights on the ceiling are amazing, DDR inspired tracks add to the quaint but classy environment. Tiffany greeted us with an option of table or booth, we chose booth. She then complimented my hair and brought a smile to my face. She promptly brought us our drinks and asked if we needed anything. All I needed was a recommendation on the best roll to try, she stated the American dream was "sooooo good", so we tried it. We ordered the Godzilla roll, pink lady and American dream. I feel like I have really high expectations for sushi. I'm originally from Chicago and was really wary of eating here at first. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was very quick and pleasant. We ordered 5 different things; California roll, Alaska roll, tuna roll,red dragon roll, and salmon sashimi. Food came out really quickly. Waited only about 10 minutes. It was presented wonderfully and was absolutely delicious. So happy I ate here and will be going again. read more

Sakura has the BEST fried rice! I get the chicken fried rice with 2 hibachi sauces and it is less than $10. This is a meal that fills me up and is normally pretty fast coming out! I love the takeout option that they have. They aren't opened up inside yet, but I'm sure they'll be back soon! This restaurant is in a strip mall and can be easy to miss, but keep your eyes peeled!! This place is great, even though for now it's just carry out. The Shrimp Tempura Roll is terrific, and I had the Steak Terryaki Bento Box. For $12.45, it includes very well prepared, I assume Sirloin, steak strips in terryaki sauce, a sushi roll, fried rice, miso soup, dumplings, and a salad. I was surprised, for sure. Food was solid, but the service sucked. Asked them if they cooked in peanut oil because someone came with us who is allergic and she couldn't give us an answer and was visibly annoyed with us asking. Very very good food. We generally get the hibachi or bento box meals. It's certainly not a super cheap place to eat, but it's good Japanese food in a rural community! We are very thankful to be able to have it in the area. The interior of the place is nice as well. If the lady who runs it is your server, be warned... She is not very pleasant. Definitely not patient. If you get another server, things will be well. The Asian woman just seems generally unhappy. But, we go there anyway and just deal with it. Down right decent sushi. It's not a Michelin star sushi joint but they're down right acceptable. Much better than all Springfield sushi places i've tried, and I've tried several. Compares well with STL quality. As many times as I've been here, I've never been served poor quality fish. Their rice is never overly sweet. I have not tried their sashimi/nigiri. read more
