Place seems like a fun night place. For lunch, it's standard bar grille food. Not a huge standout. I had the cheesesteak. It was odd. Instead of pieces of thinly sliced steak mixed with cheese, it was a thin sliced piece of steak with cheese on top. More of a steak sandwich. It was ok. The fries were well seasoned. And the homemade ranch was a standout. Service was pretty good. We had a big group and they did very well. Biggest turnoff was the semi outdoor area that allows smoking. I've lived in the area five years and I am still bewildered how people can smoke on the patio at Roper's even when the all the sliding doors are closed. I just always hope no one who smokes is seated near me. Today I expanded my menu experience by trying something totally new and different. I went with a Foul Ball, which is a chicken breast on a Brioche Bun with garnishes. I choose hand battered. You can also do, grilled or blackened. My breast was super thick and batter was crispy and had good flavor. As a side, I went with Tater Tots instead of fries. I've done this at other places and I'm starting to favor Tots. My beer was cold and the service was attentive. My server was training a new person and I think you always get better service when they are training. They want to make sure the newbie gets it, so they overdo it sometimes. I live super close to Roper's, but don't think of them when I'm heading out to eat. Service was good and atmosphere was good. The food was sub par. I ordered the Royal Reagle sandwich which used to be one of the best sandwiches in the area. However, it is no longer oven roasted. They basically throw super thin slices of meat on a griddle then put them on a bun. The meat was very greasy and very chewey. I would definitley not order this sandwich in the future and would think really hard before coming back. It's a shame because it used to be very good. read more

Had not been to Ropers in a bit, so we stopped in on a recent Sunday evening. We were greeted and seated promptly and sat in the bar area. We placed an order for the pickle chips and went back to the menu to select our dinners. Initially placed ordered for brick oven grilled sandwiches, but the oven was down so we went to second choices. The new choices were brisket tacos and buffalo chicken sliders. When the pickle chips arrived they were warm, but not super hot like out of a fryer. A short time later our entrees arrived. The brisket tacos had cold brisket and the taco was only a bit warm at the bottom (fold) area and the brisket actually felt colder than room temp like it may have been refrigerated. The chicken sliders came with tots and were really good with good buffalo spicy flavor and these were served hot. The pickle chips ended in a pool of oil/grease. I know they are fried, but it seemed like a large amount of grease in the bowl. The service got slower and slower. Had to ask multiple times for blue cheese that was ordered with the chicken and was not asked about wanting an additional drink until we asked for our bill. At that time, we were done eating and I would have appreciated at least a water to go with the last half of my meal. Instead, we just took the bill, cold tacos and one chicken slider to go. Not sure when I will be back, could have been just an off night. Read all of the other negative reviews on google. Aside from the owners being POS, there's plenty of true stories with many witnesses about what happens in the kitchen that should deter anyone from ever ingesting food here. Add in the bugs and the business owners celebrating the people of their own community starving, there is literally no reason to go here. Food was fairly good . I had soup and salad bar. Hard to ruin that. I ordered a glass of wine and was very surprised that that have changed to round bottom glass with very small amount of wine in it. I ask her how much wine was in it and the server said they told her an eight count.to count to eight and that's how much wine you get. It was seven dollars. I came home and have a glass exactly like that and I poured 4 ounces of wine into my glass and that is the exact amount that was in my glass at Roper's tonight. It is my opinion that they are selling 4 ounces of wine for seven dollars, which is ridiculous. I won't be going there to order wine anymore. my friend also ordered wine and when she found out, it was seven dollars for that small amount she sent hers back and got a canned drink. read more

Large patio out front and to the side. Huge projector TV in it even. They had $3 Margs, which is always a draw had a girl date with my gal pal. This place was surprisingly wonderful. We started with some loaded tots & I got cheddar broccoli soup with my main course. I'm telling you these tots should have come with this soup my tortellini was loaded and super tasty I had a nibble of the steak sandwich too, we came to the right place for sure. We arrived and were told to seat ourselves, which we did. I guess that also meant we were expected to serve ourselves, because we sat for 25 minutes without a single person checking on us. It's not like they were short-staffed--there were plenty of waitresses around, most of them on their phones. It really seems like the place is lacking proper management. I'm absolutely upset about the experience, especially since dining options in Godfrey are already limited. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. Maria server was great! we made decision to come here today because we were told that you would have all the games on all TVs for football. We had to make numerous request and we're given by your bartender that she was we were watching on some of your TVs. Maybe you should have employees working that either care or know how to function the TVs for Sunday football of your business interest being a sports. We popped in here on a Friday night and it wasn't too crowded. There is a bar side and a restaurant side. We sat on the bar side at a high top table. The bar side will eventually connect directly to the patio - as of now they have a temporary wall while they wait for custom doors. The menu had plenty of variety - typical bar food and more! I saw a cajun tortellini and HAD TO HAVE IT! It was a great choice - delicious! There was quite a bit of butter/grease in the sauce that may turn some folks off, but I enjoyed it. Hubby ordered nachos for an app and wings to eat. I tried both and they were good but not the best I've had. We had the fajita chicken nachos and they had a weird sauce on them and pickled jalapenos which I didn't love. The wings were "hot" sauce style, but the sauce wasn't really hot. Had an underlying flavor of maybe some type of jelly. Out friend ordered a pizza - thin crust. He and Hubby really enjoyed it. It was good but thin crust isn't my fave. Overall I feel most of the "I didn't love it" items were really preference for me and not necessarily their food. The employee that helped us was friendly and attentive. We came here for lunch while attending a conference. The place is huge, with a couple of bars and plenty of seating. It was 5 of us, and we each ordered something different and everybody really enjoyed what they had. I had the Italian wood-fired sandwich which was excellent. We also had the winds, which were smoked, not fried, but still very crispy. They know how to cook wings on a grill. The service was quick and friendly. Probably a local hotspot on the weekends, but if you're passing through, defiantly worth stopping here for a meal, or drinks. Or even gambling on the casino games they have. *shrug* read more

If possible, I would rate Roper's 3.5 stars. Based on several visits. On our latest visit. We started with my wife's favorite appetizer, Buffalo Shrimp. Its amazing, a must try! I had the House Salad. With the house dressing a creamy balsamic. My wife had a Caesar Salad. Both were generously sized salads and very good. My wife ordered the Mushrooms Nantua, the flavor of the sherry wine dominated over all other flavors. Perhaps they added too much. Other than that it was good. It was prepared well. I would give it a second chance. I ordered the St. Charles Pasta. Which I have had before and it is fantastic! If you like Cajun pasta, I highly recommend St. Charles pasta! Service at Ropers. Can be hit or miss. And I would not say that we've ever had extremely poor service. And I think what affects the service. Is the size of the place and at times crowds. They have a four season patio, that allows smoking. And a separate indoor dining room/bar. The patio seems to draw the bigger crowd. Which takes away from the service, for those that choose the indoor dining room. Roper's is unique, that is meant as a compliment. Some of the menu items are not what you would expect to find in a sports bar type atmosphere. But, in a nicer restaurant. That includes their buffalo shrimp appetizer, and the Saint Charles tortellini pasta. read more

Tonight I had Ropedaddy's wings, online order/takeout. Despite being very busy, the food was ready when I got there 20 mins after ordering. The wings were enormous and amazing. Buffalo sauced perfectly without going overboard like many places do. The house ranch was also amazing. One order of these is more than a meal. So I used to get my wings from another place in town that says their wings win yearly 'Best Of' awards. Um...Regal Beagle have the best wings in town, and by far. This place gets more dirty every year. Last night we went after a Blues game, around 10. There were about 20 of us at the bar. At least three of them were employees who weren't working. They would go behind the bar and make their own drinks. A couple people were openly smoking pot at the bar, with the hammered drunk owner there not caring. We sat next to tea pitchers covered with bottoms of plates. The food used to be good, but there was a local viral video showing the kitchen, which was disgusting. We stopped eating there years ago, because the waitresses cared more about socializing, drinking, and vaping than delivering drinks and food. The owner is your typical bar rescue type alcoholic. The clientele looked strung out. The place was dirty. It used to be a great place to sit on the patio and have a drink. What a shame. read more

The waitress was a tad short but relatively attentive though not great. We opted to order a pizza which was very well topped but not cooked thoroughly.
