The nigiri is mostly good. The snapper and black pepper maguro were my favorite while the abalone was slimy and the scallops were bland. The one roll we got was tempura shrimp with cream cheese and avocado was very good. The bill was much more than I anticipated. It was ~$76 and with ~$14 it was ~ $90 . So for 2 people enjoying a late lunch it was ~ $45 each. The restaurant itself was filled with Japanese dolls, and Japanese paintings. The seating is across from the sushi chef. Tried watching the Masters Golf tournament but the channel wasn't broadcasting as intended. Overall it was a fairly decent experience. I don't, however, plan on returning. read more

The food was gorgeous, perfectly seasoned, and healing. This being my first time coming to Sakura Bowl I was very surprised at how kind the old man working the front desk and busing the tables was, he gave us complimentary gyoza, pickled radishes, a hug, and directions on how to take care of our take away food on the drive back home. Based on the strong ratings, my party of three chose Sakura Sushi for lunch. We left profoundly disappointed, still hungry, and questioning the validity of those reviews. We ordered a spread to sample the menu: seafood, ramen, a bento box, and a variety of sushi. The problems began immediately when we were told the bento wasn't available on weekends--a direct contradiction to the menu which stated it was served on Saturdays. Once we received it, the bento was a letdown. Unlike most restaurants that include both, you must choose between soup or salad. The box itself was sparse: two shrimp and a few vegetable tempura pieces, three potstickers, a scoop of rice, and a small salad. The variety was absolutely minimal. The seafood ramen was inedible. The broth tasted like plain soy sauce diluted with water, completely lacking any depth of flavor. We left over half of it in the bowl. The sushi was the greatest offense. The avocado salmon and unagi rolls were embarrassingly small, no thicker than my thumb. The salmon skin roll was burnt to a crisp, giving it a brittle, pebble-like texture that was impossible to enjoy. The seaweed wraps were tough and chewy. Furthermore, and most egregiously, the sushi was made with long-grain rice--the completely wrong type of rice for Japanese cuisine. This was a first for me and an absolute deal-breaker. In short, the meal was a cascade of errors: misinformation, meager portions, poor execution, and fundamental technical mistakes. I was still hungry after spending a significant amount of money and had to eat again when I got home. I cannot recommend this restaurant....very disappointing. We stopped for dinner on weekday night and were the only customers eating there. The shop is run by a super nice couple who was very attentive. I ended up trying their Beef Hot Pot tofu stew. I think I just had more expectations that it would be more like the other tofu stews I have tried. The tofu used was firm tofu instead of silken and the broth seemed more savory, almost like a ramen broth instead of being lighter. out of all the mediocre Asian food that has saturated this area, I am so baffled by how quiet this place can be. this place should have a line that circles around the building! The food is so delicious, reasonably priced, and the owners are some of the kindest folks I have experienced at any business down south. my personal favorite is the pork katsu (and you'll want to order the extra veggies, and go far the large while you're at it since it is just as good the next day. I'm not a sushi person so I cannot comment on that but I have yet to be disappointed with any of their bento or bowls. These are the gems that a community needs to go out of their way to support. it would be devastating for it to go away. It took me almost 8 years to find a replacement for the Happy Teriyaki that mysteriously disappeared off Hampden and Iliff... This is a small mom and pop owned restaurant. The wife takes the orders then goes to cook the food and the husband delivers the orders and cleans the tables. It is very authentic. The food was good but the only problem was they did not understand my order and thus gave me the wrong item. Communication and customer service was not the best. They did not want to correct my order, gave me my food and then just walked away. The salad dressing is like a Kupie Mayo which we did not care for but the food seemed authentic and was good overall. Not sure how Sakura slipped through the cracks of my reviews but I am glad I realized and am giving this great local spot the stars they deserve!! I can never get enough Asian food and same goes for the SO so we have a habit of trying a lot of different places to find our favorites. We don't live super close but actually came here first when staying in a hotel nearby during our first trip to CO before we moved here. Since that first visit we were hooked and have made a point to order takeout/stop in when we can! Overall everything has been tasty, fresh, and the prices are just right. The bento boxes are a great deal and they come with a meat, rice, two gyoza, salad, and miso soup. I love the option for brown rice and also the many different meat/seafood options. We've had the beef, chicken teriyaki, pork, and bulgogi and we'll keep coming back for more.. I love real ramen. I eat it several times a week. This is not ramen. These are brick noodles in quick made broth and cheap, fatty meat. No egg, no veg, no mushrooms, no chashu, no flavor. The noodles were gummy and mushy. The meat is boiled, flavorless slices of cheap pork with a couple pieces of cabbage. It's as bad as anything you'll ever get. The pork katsu? Same. It's been around for a while but I feel like it gets forgotten because it isn't flashy and doesn't have all the bells and whistles people think about with the trendy ramen spots that have taken over in the last few years. But the staff is friendly and the place is very clean, and the food is on point! It's good, fast, and does what it does right. The main problem is that it's kind of hard to find if you don't already know where to look, but it's definitely worth circling around a few times for. I have been searching for my go to Asian food in general since moving. I've been to places that are not bad but not memorable either. In short nobody impressed me at all. Until today. The first attempt to visit them at 8pm one night was met with a very nice older gentleman who kindly informed us that they're closed. Today we went in for lunch. They were out of Kalbi over rice and veggies. I ended up with their awesome Beef Bulgogi in a bowl with a choice of brown rice or white. I opted for brown rice. Large $8.45. The small would set you back $6.85. Oh yeah! Am I happy or what?! Delicious well marinated beef. Generous portion. Well distributed ratio of rice to beef to veggies. They have Bento Box , Hot Pot, Rolls, Appetizers, Noodles (miso, udon and yaki-udon). My guess is that this is a mom and pops business. The guy that helped us was very knowledgeable. When he informed me that they ran out of Kalbi he suggested another dish similar to it. I appreciate the help since my favorite Friday K friend is not around. Very simple decor inside. Even sparse. I Love it! Fast service with warmth. Free hot tea. Tip: Grab your utensils and water or tea while waiting for your order. I'm going back to try everything on their menu...one dish at a time. Sakura reminds me of the numerous little restaurants I visited when I was stationed in Japan. The interior decor brought back good memories of exploring the country and ducking into a little storefront space for a bowl of noodles. As another out-of-town Yelper asked, where's the dinner crowd? Sakura is a great place to get your Asian comfort food fix. The prices are very reasonable and the ambiance is authentic. The food is prepared with a lot of detail and care. When visiting Japanese places, my task is to see if it's better than my mom's cooking. So, I started off with the gyoza. It seems like every culture has it's own version of gyoza - a dough wrap filled with meat and/or vegetables and then steamed or pan fried. Sakura fries their gyoza. The wrapper was crispy with a nice crunch, while the filling was tender. I liked this better than my mom's (if anyone tells her, I'll deny it). Sakura - WIN! The next course was the Japanese-style chicken curry with white rice (you get an option of white or brown rice). This curry was more in the style of the Curry House restaurant chain. The gravy was thick and slightly sweet, with a kick of heat that sneaks up on you. Sakura places their curry on a bed of shredded lettuce and carrots, very different from the stew-like consistency that I make at home. Sakura - mom - TIE! For dessert, I ordered the California roll. They use the same rice as they use for the meals, which is what my mom does. They use a generous amount of avocado and shredded surimi (most sushi places just use insert a block of surimi, shredding it takes some time, and care). My only disappointment is that the roll isn't packed very tightly, so the roll comes apart very easily, and I don't believe they vinegar their rice. Flavor-wise, it's a tie. I would put Sakura up against my mom's cooking any day. If I lived anywhere near here, I would be a regular. It''s that good. read more

I stopped in here for an impromptu lunch while I got my oil changed next door. What a pleasant surprise! I had the ramen special with chicken, dumplings, and kimchi. It was so delicious! In addition to that, the service was impeccable! I think it may have been the owner who took care of me. He offered me free hot tea and checked on me several times. Pretty good place for a quick meal! We went here for dinner a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night and this place wasn't what I thought it was going to be. From the reviews I got more of a restaurant with servers kind of vibe but you walk in, order, sit and they bring it out to you. We were the only table in there which made me a little sad because it seems like a solid place for Japanese and Korean food and the two ladies running the operation were nice but not overbearing whatsoever. I got the chicken katsu bento box which had a generous portion of food including soup, salad, sushi rolls, rice and chicken. The chicken was a little too dry and overcooked for my liking but everything else was fantastic. They have a vat of hot tea right near the utensils so if you're looking for something to drink and don't want to pay for a can or bottle of soda, get your antioxidants in and have some tea! Once we were done, my belly was happy and I was satisfied yet not disgusted with myself so that was a win. The food was tasteless and the chicken was very chewy. Not only was I disappointed in the food, but the man and woman working there were not friendly at all. There was no friendly greeting or any personality as I ordered.I went to sit at a table and the man barked at me and ordered me to sit at a different table even though the place was empty. While I was eating a young man came in and it was obvious he had never been there before. He was looking over the menu and asking questions which irritated the man taking his order. Once the order was placed the worker made an off handed comment to the patron about the amount of food he was ordering, the patron felt he had to explain that he hadn't had breakfast and was famished.
