I don't know what all the fuss is about. The food sucked. The atmosphere sucked. The service was fine - - don't blame the server.

We were seated at a banquette corner spot which was great. Interior is way smaller than I anticipated from seeing pics but is cozy. Our server, River, was friendly and informative. Food came out at a nice pace. This was EASILY the best meal I have had out in 10-15 years. Food was stellar. Each dish was unique, well seasoned, interesting, and balanced. Positively delicious. I am irritated I waited so long to come here. I don't live near Collingswood. Prix fixe tasting menus are typically not my first choice. My eyes missed the note on their site that ala carte is only available on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I have dietary restrictions and I didn't think I was that hungry. My dining partner is an omnivore but I eat vegan part of the week. I am more a vegetarian leaning pescatarian. I do not eat offal, beef, or pork. I am allergic to beef. Tasting menus are typically problematic for me. This menu was so varied and perfectly proportioned. I had choices I was very happy with. We walked out satisfied but not grotesque. What we ordered- sicilian tuna - parsley, capers, calabrian chili, sourdough (supplemental $5) watermelon & stone fruit - mint-chili vinaigrette, fennel, stracciatella lumache - pancetta, charred corn, cherry tomato, soft egg risotto - zucchini, szechuan butter, pistachio, lemon honey Branzino to share - whole fish - tomato, black olive, fennel, burnt orange caramelized pâte feuilletée - yuzu, blackberry mint gelée, matcha crumb pâte à choux - craquelin, corn semifreddo, peach-jalapeño reduction Highly, highly recommend.

First, the place is very nice on the inside; spacious, clean, relatively quiet. The servers were nice, (a little awkward, but nice...), and the food was delicious. I decided to go with the chicharrones mofongo, and the Misses got the salmon. We got a side of fried plantains to split. I was a little worried watching other peoples mofongos coming out, because although beautifully plated, the helping looked small. But, it was more than enough food. The plantains were more than a little over, (aka burnt,) but they tasted ok nevertheless. The Misses enjoyed her salmon, but was QUITE upset that the meal came with white rice instead of yellow. She says that she specifically asked for yellow, but I can't remember, AND, as is the custom now a days, the waitress didn't write the order down, instead trying to remember everything. Hate that practice, I really do. The MEALS were reasonably priced, but the sides and drinks were astronomical. The side of plaintains was TEN dollars. I ordered a coffee at the end of the meal, (that took FOR.EVER. to come out by the way,) and it was like an espresso sized cup of coffee that costed almost $5. The iced teas, over $4. They make up the difference of the meals on the other shit. Our bill for the mofongo, the salmon, an iced tea, a side of plantains, and the worlds slowest, smallest coffee was JUST under $100. It was good, but it wasn't THAT good. As I mentioned, the server was awkward, and would come by the table and then just stand there, or walk away and then walk IMMEDIATELY back, so it was just a little weird. YMMV. Again, even with all that, I would absolutely go back here. They have a LOT of mofongo options, and I'd love to try another protein.

However, I was highly disappointed with the way we were treated. The service we received was not up to the standards that Giumarello's holds. We received no plates, no napkins, and no utensils the whole time. We had to send two drinks back because they were not what we ordered. We had gone out to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, and so glad we chose Mare Monte because it was a spectacular evening from start to finish. The food was excellent. We ordered an appetizer from the specials list (stuffed prosciutto with arugula, feta, watermelon and candied walnuts) plus two creamy pasta seafood dishes, one from the menu (penne dante) and one from the specials list. Our server was Mateo who was phenomenal and really brought the whole evening to the next level. Kind, attentive, professional and knowledgeable. She asked if we were celebrating anything, and I told her we were there for my girlfriend's birthday, and at the end of the night she brought out a complimentary tiramisu with a candle in it. This was also the best tiramisu I've ever had. All around a great evening with great food and great service. We'll definitely be back.

We tried to mix it up by trying the Squid Ink Linguine, that was where we went wrong. Honestly not that good of a pasta for the price and there wasn't anything unique about it due to the squid ink, I would go for one of the creamier pastas instead. This dish was more like 3/5. We also had an appetizer of escargot and it was delicious! Tiramisu was a generous portion as well.

I'm seated by the host and then over comes the waitress... "Whatayawant to drink"?..... I looked tf up and thankfully caught myself... No hello. No hi my name is so and so, I'll be your server this afternoon... Not the way I wanted to spend me money... "I'll have a glass of water"... That have me a minute to think this out and process what this place was about... The water comes out and had a heavy metal/bleach taste.. I continue to observe the service, and apparently this is just part of this woman's charm... So I order. "I'll have the clams casino and the shrimp scampi"... The clams casino comes out and we're obviously made in house and tasted great... Just a little too much salt in the dressing on top, but still a very good appetizer *sips the Delaware water*.... I forgot to mention that my server had brought out a basket of sliced Italian bread with a bowl of oil with spices and a couple whole garlic cloves in it... That oil was addicting!! I could've just eaten that for lunch.. Out comes the shrimp scampi, and this was an amazingly tasty dish.. Fresh vegetables, huge shrimp, and great tasting pasta in a garlic infuse oil... I definitely like this place... There was a large nice bar at the entrance that was half full, so I can imagine that there must be a decent happy hour there during the week... Absolutely looking forward to my next meal here.
