Came here on a hunt for a delicious seafood risotto and Mare Monte delivered. Absolutely loved their Seafood Risotto, it was creamy, a hint of sweet, and had a lot of mussels and shrimp. 5/5 for the risotto. We tried to mix it up by trying the Squid Ink Linguine, that was where we went wrong. Honestly not that good of a pasta for the price and there wasn't anything unique about it due to the squid ink, I would go for one of the creamier pastas instead. This dish was more like 3/5. We went here again last week and unfortunately just thought the food was okay. Immediately as we sat down, they put down the bread basket, which was nice but also felt rushed. While we were still eating our appetizers, they put down our entrees. It really felt that they were trying to flip our table and rush us through dinner. We didn't appreciate that they were trying to rush us when there were plenty of open tables and no groups waiting to get in. The Caesar salad was good, the grilled cheese wasn't as good as a last time. For entrees, the gnocchi was decent, but needed to have something added to it. My husband's dish was underwhelming unfortunately. We will most likely go elsewhere for Italian when we are in Haddonfield/Collingswood. read more

What a cute BYOB restaurant in haddonfield! Such cozy vibes inside, the place is beautifully decorated. My friends and I went there for a little girls night dinner. The pastas were all delicious! Our server was so friendly and overall we had a great time. One small thing, we went a bit early as we had a concert to attend that night, the place was pretty empty aside from one other party but we did feel pretty rushed, at one point they asked if they could clear our table or if we needed to-go containers as I was mid bite of my food. We originally started getting our orders from delivery here and they were excellent so we decided to give them a try in person and it was just as good if not better which was awesome to see the pasta is so very fresh. The service was very good. The local wine was actually surprisingly good. The ambience was typical upper end Italian, but not necessarily a bad thing just kind of generic. All of the food we ordered was really good but standouts: The dish I had (pictured): 10/10. Ate the entire thing and used the leftover bread to scoop up the sauce. Mare Monte is towards the end of strip of downtown Haddonfield. It is a cute and tiny Italian restaurant that has incredible food. They offer a wide range of pastas to choose from and they even have gluten free pastas. Their waiters and waitresses are well trained and are knowledgeable about the menu. Now let's talk food. I highly recommend starting with their octopus and calamari. The octopus is tender and melts in your mouth. It is served on a bed of arugula. The calamari is your classic dish that you can never go wrong with it. Fried to perfection. Any dish with risotto is a must! I got the Risotto Monte. All the flavors paired so nicely together and I could not put my fork down. It was absolutely incredible. Everyone else got Spaghetti Silva and Risotto Mare Monte. Both of these dishes were delicious and extremely flavorful. We all left extremely satisfied. Mare Monte is a great place for a date night, girls night, or a family gathering. You can also host events here as well. When you go do not forget to bring your wine because it is BYOB. The pasta side was also very small. More importantly one of our friends asked for her salmon cooked welll but it was very pink in the middle. They took it back and tried again but it was no better. I also ordered dessert to go - creme brûlée. My Mom later asked me how they were gonna do that since it was a to go order but I said they let me order it so that's for them to figure out. Pick up the food, take it home and eat. I go looking for my dessert some time later and realize it's not in the bag, I call and they apologize. I get there, there's an issue we can't brûlée the top in the plastic to go because well it's plastic. What a charming and romantic restaurant in Haddonfield. We ordered mostly the evening specials because they sounded amazing. The meal started with grilled octopus over broccoli rabe and the burrata with melon and mortedella . The octopus was very tender and not chewy at all. I loved that it came over broccoli rabe but the tomatoe caper sauce was so good. I really enjoy a salty and sweet flavor combination and the burrata special hit that for me. My husband order the veal chop special that was delicious. The veal was cooked properly topped with jumbo lump crabmeat in an amazing gorganzola sauce. That sauce was so good I would've eaten my shoe in it. For my dish I had the gnocchi vodka. The gnocchi are homemade and hit that comfort food craving. We ended our meal with on a high note with a chocolate creme brule. My husband and I enjoyed the food and service by our waiter Aldo. This is a BYOB and we will definitely be back. read more

Unplanned one Sunday, I found myself in Haddonfield NJ. I had no familiarity with Haddonfield, but was totally impressed with the town. It was blocks of specialty shops, coffee shops, and restaurants. A very artsy, classy vibe. We wanted to get dinner before leaving town, and my wife and I were thinking Italian. I saw many other kinds of restaurants in town from Thai to Mexican. We settled on Mare Monte. On Sunday afternoon at 3:30pm, the place was basically empty, but I could picture a busy room on a weekend night. As it grew later into Sunday, more people were coming in. The waiter sat us by the window and gave us menus and waters. He came back with bread, olive oil and the specials. I didn't see a drink menu and began to fret that Mare Monte was a BYOB restaurant. After talking with the waiter, he confirmed it was BYOB. I was disappointed because I was planning to have a glass of wine with dinner. They don't sell wine there, but the waiter told me he might be able to help. He was able to get 2 glasses of red for me and my wife. The meal itself, was nothing short of extraordinary. We started with Polpo, ($14.95) which was grilled octopus over a bed of beans and corn. The octopus was warm and the veggies cold and it was pretty delicious. We followed with 2 Caesar salads. For my entree, I went with Pappardelle al Polpa Di Granchio ($23), a homemade pasta with crab in light cream sauce. My wife went with Fra Diavolo ($27). The homemade pappardelle was outstanding and my wife's Fra Diavolo was equally as good. We finished up with a Tiramisu, coffee and espresso. It's highly doubtful I'll ever be back in Haddonfield NJ, but I'm glad I got to eat at Mare Monte. I don't think my wife and I will have that good a 3 course meal, for a hundred bucks, ever again. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner on Valentine's Day and were not disappointed. We ordered the bruschetta board, grilled cheese, marinara ravioli, chicken Parm, and one of the nights specials (can't remember what it was). Everything was absolutely delicious. The grilled cheese was essentially a giant square mozzarella stick, and I absolutely could've eaten 50 of them. The ravioli and the pasta were all handmade and were phenomenal. All of the employees were super friendly and I really enjoyed my time here. My only negative comment is about the music that was playing. If I could I would leave no stars. My boyfriend and I found this restaurant searching for where to go eat. We were looking for a nice fine dining experience for a date night. We made a reservation for 5:45. The only good thing I can say about the restaurant is the hosts at the front greet you with a smile. Everything else was terrible. The table we were sat at was in the corner near the front door. With people walking in and out the front door, with the time we sat at the table we were accompanied by a chill from the constant opening and closing of the door. The food was tasteless, overcooked, overpriced and not freshly made. The food came out in about 10 minutes after ordering it. The kitchen throws some hot demi glaze all over the plate to present it as "fine dining" and to try to mask the tasteless, overcooked food that it is. I had ordered the veal and my boyfriend ordered a chicken dish. Cutting the veal with a butter knife, the entire table was shaking, it was over cooked and felt like rubber. We were never asked how anything was during the time we were eating. The server came back only once to our table once it was empty to ask about dessert. To top it off I have several allergies and when communicating this to the server, he assured me I was fine. I had asked are you sure there isn't gluten soy or nuts but he again assured me there would be none in my dish. I didn't feel reassured and management didn't even come over to discuss. The waiter was wrong. I went home that night with pains in my side and then broke out with some hives. A fine dining experience is not what you will get going to dinner at this establishment. To say I am displeased with the restaurant is an understatement. Will never recommend this restaurant or go back. read more

Been here a few times with my fiancé and it never disappoints. Brought some friends from Philly along this time and they also enjoyed! Started off with the grilled cheese, fried calamari and shrimp, and escargot appetizers. The escargot is a must have when you come-we get it every time. The calamari were decent and the grilled cheese was well done and we all enjoyed all three. For entrees I tried the pesto gnocchi with shrimp and it was amazing! Loved the dollop of ricotta in the middle. My fiancé got the papardelle fiorentina which is my personal favorite here. The sauce is nice and creamy and it comes with crab meat and scallops-awesome. Our friends tried the gnocchi vodka and a special of the night that had mussels and shrimp over pasta which they both enjoyed. To finish we split the chocolate creme brûlée and the cheesecake-both wonderful endings to our night. Love that it's BYOB so we can enjoy our favorite wines while we dine.
