I'm really disappointed because Sake Toro has always been one of my favorite sushi restaurants and my family has loved coming here for years, but the service my friend and I received was honestly horrible. We sat at the bar and after waiting forever to even be acknowledged, the lady helping us came over and simply said, "What do you want?" with no greeting or friendliness at all. We waited over 35 minutes for our food, never once got checked on, and our drinks were never refilled. By the end of the meal, we had to close out our tab with a completely different employee because our server wasn't paying attention to us at all. The food may still be good, but the service completely ruined the experience. It's really upsetting to have such a bad experience at a restaurant my family has supported for so long. read more

I first came here with my boyfriend, who loves this place, and I then brought a friend a few months later. I was hoping that the experiences would have been different and thrust they were. The first time we got our food and everything pretty quickly. Though this place is like every other American place that serves sushi - when it doubt add tuna to it- which for most people I'm sure that's great but for me this is just a show of over use of a cheap fish. It doesn't help that I'm also allergic to tuna either. It took some time to get the food but it didn't matter at the time because I was in love and happy. The food was ok but it wasn't the best and I actually felt like we were forgotten a few times The second time I went- with my friend- we ordered rolls and I ordered fried rice. The fried rice came out before the rolls. They were not nearly as busy as they were the first time. But that doesn't stop the fact that we were forgotten. Both my rolls came out before hers. O.M.G. The Toro is to die for. I was also lucky and the Uni was delivered that day. Went late in the day so i didn't have a long wait. The staff was all very friendly and funny. Very personable. I ordered the Toro, salmon, yellow tail, spicy scallop, uni, and a spicy tuna hand roll. The hand roll was rolled like an un cut roll, but im not complaining because it got me more spicy tuna than usual. I just had to bit moth ends so one didn't spill. The flavor they put in the rice is delicious, it has a hint of ponsu. I finished my sushi too quick, had to get another order of Toro and steal some of my wife's rolls. It is not cheap sushi, and i am definitely OK paying what i did for our dinner. Worth it. We will definitely be visiting again. read more

I've eaten here for years and somehow this fantastic Sushi Restaurant disappeared from yelp. Sake Toro is the best Sushi Restaurant In the United States and I'd finger wrestle anyone who can prove me wrong! I first discovered this awesome little Slice of heaven 4 years ago and each meal has been very, very high quality! The miso soup is tasty and on a cold day like today came in handy! My absolute favorites are the Tuna tower, no rice with extra avocado. It is quite simply delicious! The Lydia Roll # 6 (Named after the owners a married couple Casey, the Chef and his lovely wife Lydia) is a cucumber wrapped roll stuffed with Tuna, crab, Avocado and a special added request of cream cheese topped with assorted salmon, Tuna and albacore. Simply divine and a must try. I also love the Viva Las Vegas, another cucumber wrapped roll stuffed with crab, avocado, Tuna and cream cheese. Many of my friends who aren't as carb conscious as me brag about all the fabulous rolls. I've personally tried the Mexican Roll and happy ending and their out of this world good. All the ingredients are fresh! Edamame is another great appetizer and my dearest friend loves their fried rice. And for my sashimi lovers you're in for a real treat! The service is impeccable and at times can be slow but the staff is amazing and I tend to believe that really good sushi takes some time to prepare...after all if it's worth it I'd rather wait for something that has been freshly prepared anyway. I'd encourage a True Sushi fanatic to give this place a try...my last visit a couple had drove all the way from Sachse to eat here claiming it was by far their favorite Sushi place. TLDR: Sorry, but I would not come again. I would not recommend this place unless you happen to love spending money on waiting, stale sushi, and inconsiderate customer service. --- I feel bad for writing this because this place was recommended to me by a friend, and I do not like complaining about restaurants because my parents worked in restaurants my whole life and I understand it is a hard industry to please complicated customers. I don't think I'm too complicated of a customer, but unfortunately, my experience here was just too disappointing to not explain how this place has performed way below my expectations. I was already hungry. Sushi & Sashimi For 2 looked pretty good to try. We had made a call and got our order for pick up into the system at 5:54pm. The order was said to be ready in 20-25 minutes. We arrived at the restaurant and paid for the order at 6:24pm, so this is already about 5 minutes after they said it'd be ready by. Order wasn't ready, but no problem. I can wait a bit. The first box of our order came out just a few minutes after I paid, and I was getting excited. We stood and waited as we thought our order would almost be done. About 10 minutes passed after that, so we asked where the rest of our order is in case they had forgotten about us. "It's coming", they said. Another 5 minutes passed and we asked again. "It's coming", they said. Again, another 5 minutes passed and we asked again. "They're starting on it now". They are just starting on it NOW? By this time, we had already waited 20 minutes at the restaurant. The first box of our order had been sitting on the counter for TWENTY minutes before they decided to start on the other half of our order, when we had already been standing there waiting. It has been a total of 50 minutes since we placed an order by the time they STARTED on the second half of our order. During the 20 minutes, waitresses and the manager have been walking by us back and forth, but no one stopped for a second to apologize for making us wait or offer us to sit or have a glass of water. We very calmly raised our concern to the first waitress who we talked to when we first entered to let her know we were pretty upset. She said she would talk to the manager to see what they can do about this situation. We watched, and the rest of the time she just avoided us and the manager. When the manager finally came to bag our second half of our order, we again tried to make it known that we were disappointed without raising our voice. She just looked at us and said "okay". Nothing else. So we asked "that's it?", and she said "Yes, that's it. Your rolls are in this box and your sushi is in this box". No apology. No understanding or consideration of why we may possibly be upset at the situation when we were hanging out and standing right next to her the last 30 minutes for a pick up order. Maybe not for everyone, but my expectations when calling in for a pick up order is for me to come in around the estimated ready time and maybe waiting up to 10 minutes max at the restaurant for my food to be ready. We waited there for 30 minutes. That's a total of almost an hour since we placed our order. If we had known it'd take that long for sushi, we would not have even gone through with our order. The part that we waited the longest for was sashimi and sushi, which does not require any cooking--just chopping up pieces of fish and placing some on pre-made sushi rice. Instead of continuously coming out box after box for another order where the customer was not even present yet, it would have been nice if they paused to finish up the rest of our order really quick since we've been standing and waiting for so long. Besides the one order they kept stacking boxes for, the restaurant was not even busy. By the time we reached home and started eating, the fried rolls in the first box were stale. The sushi pieces in the second box were small. Quality was poor by the time I finally got to eat any of it. Flavor was okay I guess, but with everything else in consideration, I definitely do not think it was worth the price. Maybe my experience would have been a little different if we dined in so we could eat the first half of our order while we waited for the rest, but we kept being told our order should be ready soon so we just kept waiting and waiting. I really would've preferred eating my sushi fresh, as I (and hopefully anyone) believe it should be eaten. Not-so-good mediocre food with good customer service is tolerable, good food with no-so-good service makes the meal unenjoyable, but this was not-so-good food nor service. I sadly have to admit that I regret having spent my money and time here. read more

This is a negative review but threw on 3 stars cause of the delicious food. So, here's my entire visit. Walk in, quickly told it is a 25 minute wait so I was quick to give my number cause we wanted to try the place out. I get a phone call and told my table is ready. Walk in 3 minutes later, and have to wait around 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge we are ready for our table. Sit down to the table, a food runner asks for drinks and gets on it pretty quick. Our waiter, walks by, and asks if we had anyone ask for our drinks yet. We answer yes and he asks if we want an appetizer or anything. We order the Cajun edamame. He walks away, and here's where the real fun begins. The food runner guy brings out our edamame, it's quick and delicious. Dug into it and got a bit of the way into it and wondered where the hell our waiter went? He passes us for the next 25 minutes, drinks are empty, no glances, no asking us anything. It was like we didn't exist. We were at this point so upset we wanted to bail but didn't want to leave without paying for what they did give us. He finally comes by, and my fiancé rips into him saying we have been ready to order for awhile. I'm beyond words so I don't say a thing. Here's the best part...25 minutes later our food starts to come. We ordered 5 rolls to split between us. The first one comes and it's great. Someone else brought us this plate. Not sure who it was but it wasn't our waiter. We damn near finish this first plate, and wonder where the rest is. Then we see a large plate with 3 rolls on it. Ok good! We should have the rest very soon. Wrong. The hostess brings us over the plate with 3 of the remaining 4 rolls left. We again purposely ate as slow as possible thinking we are going to have to wait for our last roll. Didn't matter either way, we still had to wait for the last roll. The last roll was delivered by another waiter from the front section of the place. When he walked away, this is when I smell something not so good. Wasn't sure until he came back to refill our drinks for the first time. Given this is NOT our waiter, who has failed us miserably. He needed to put on deodorant so bad. Like he must have had a busy day but damn, when you can smell BO that bad, you gotta do something. Upon receiving the check, which was over $80, I left zero tip. This is only the second time in my life I didn't leave a tip. Our waiter easily helped others and there were a few other groups who had come in after us, ate, and left before we were done. Service here is absolutely the worst. My fiancé ended the trip apologizing for the bad experience at a place she knew had great sushi and food. And yes, the sushi was fantastic. But with this service, who the hell wants to wait for it? Literally, I wish I knew the name of our waiter cause he needs to be reevaluated. Checking recent reviews, my experience is very similar to others with the horrible service. Would I ever go back? If they have better front end service, yes, definitely. Yeah I used to like this place until I visited today. Wow they were grossly undermanned behind the counter but they kept letting people take tables. It was weird because they had some social distancing in half the place and then the other half they did not. We ordered a roll right away and we waited a hour and ten minutes only to be disappointed. We finished our drinks and the fried rice we ordered but I gave up on the rest of the order (two sushi dinners, some nigiri and another roll). I like the owner but this won't work for me. I always review based upon the taste and the quality of the food and hardly ever complain about service (check my other reviews) but this experience was so bad it warranted this review. They had a new server (and she was kind and tried... I felt bad for her). I left a $40 tip... that's almost a 100% tip for the drinks. My family and I came here on a Sunday for early dinner. We had to wait about 25 minutes to get a table. Not terrible until we had to wait on other things later. The server brought the menus shortly after we got seated but it took over 20 minutes to get their attention so we could place our orders. It took an extremely long time to get our order and our food came out at various times. It was extremely annoying when we saw several tables that came in after us get there orders before us. We also saw a a few people that walked in a side door and after talking to a server and chatting with one of the sushi makers, they got seated (ahead of others waiting at the front door) And then they also started getting their appetizers and rolls before others. Not cool at all. It took almost 2 hours from the time we walked in until we left, just for 3 rolls and a couples appetizers. The food was very good.
