I walked into SAKE Sushi with high hopes, an empty stomach, and just enough self-control to pace myself for about the first 10 minutes. After that, it was game on. Ambiance: The restaurant has a modern cozy vibe with a bit of anime flair bold artwork (the striking wall art makes you feel like you're being watched by a sushi guardian), comfy booths, clean layout, and an open view of the kitchen where you can see the sushi chefs doing their thing. It's casual but stylish perfect for a laid-back dinner or a casual sushi binge with friends. Menu Variety: This place delivers when it comes to options. You've got everything from basic rolls (California, Spicy Tuna, Philly) to creative specialty rolls like the Dynamite Roll, Black Dragon Roll, and Dancing Tuna. The all-you-can-eat dinner menu reads like a sushi lover's fantasy with over 100 items including appetizers, nigiri, sashimi, fried rice, teriyaki, and salads. The Food: Now to the important part: * The rolls: We tried a ton of them to varying degrees of enjoyment. A ton have crabmeat or the spicy tuna which we quickly tired of. They were generous portions and the sauces were good. * The nigiri & sashimi: The Yellowtail was buttery, fresh, and clean no fishy aftertaste. The Red Snapper and Mackerel were outstanding. * Appetizers: The takoyaki was interesting. The garlic edamame was addictively seasoned. The ginger was addictive * Dessert: A simple scoop of ice cream to close out the carnage classic. Service: Friendly and efficient. Plates came out fast, servers checked in frequently without being pushy, and they were happy to give recommendations and bring extra rolls. Price: At $35.99 per person for dinner, it's a fair deal given the quality and variety. Plus, with the 90-minute limit, it encourages just the right amount of indulgence without feeling rushed.

can't remember what this roll is called, but we loved it

"All You Can Eat" sushi places are hit and miss -- usually a miss. very happy to say that Sake is a HIT! for the reasonable adult price of $24.99, you get to order off a pretty elaborate menu, as much as you want! and nothing is pre-made, it's all done fresh upon ordering. the gyoza, fried wontons and lemon pepper wings were good starter apps... we followed those up with some rolls and yellow tail nigiri, and closed things out with some chicken chow mein; my brother and I were both surprised -- the flavor and quality exceeded our expectations! we each ate about $75 worth of sushi: that's what we estimate it would have cost at any other mid-level to above-average japanese restaurant. what can I say? my brother and I are both Big Dudes who can eat our own body weight in sushi... we walked in skeptical and left as true believers who will be back at Sake very soon. such a great deal! namaste

Sake has great value for the price, unlike other buffet type places sushi requires there to be some freshness to the meal prep which is a big boon in this instance. I didn't expect much when I ordered the sashimi, but the salmon sashimi was surprisingly fresh and delicious. So if you enjoy sashimi you know how expensive it can be to get even average cuts, so you can definitely get good value out of the buffet price from just the sashimi. The ambiance is pretty laid back, it doesn't feel cluttered or too loud and it's excellent to come as a group and eat and talk. The service was average, I had some trouble getting someone to get my order after the initial round of orders, which I don't hold against the establishment since I realize it's a buffet and it's part of the "game" you have to play. You're trying to get the most out of your 36 dollars and they're trying to maximize profits, so it's not a big deal if they're not rude about it, which they aren't. All in all, definitely a place to check out.

The sashimi was exceptionally fresh, with a smooth texture & clean flavor that highlighted the quality of the fish. Each slice was perfectly cut & melted in the mouth. Definitely a must-order for sashimi lovers.

Service was super fast. The rolls r kinda small so u can put down a ton. But be careful of ordering too much it can catch up to u. The place is very nice in the inside. Definitely a don't judge a book by its cover kinda place. $36 for All You Can Eat. Rolls were pretty good, pretty good variety of rolls too. Very nice place.

If u go to a sushi buffet and dont mostly order nigiris or sashimis, what are you doing. Seared nigiri- Usually I like whatever ingredients they add to my nigiri but this was not it. Chili powder really? Tasted like eating takis every time I took a bite, was not looking for chips when ordering nigiri. And as usual, barely gives you any rice, but its fine cause I can just ask for extra rice and no chili powder (which is what I got later). Also what happened to my tuna, theres like 0 sear on any of the 10 of them. Special rolls- the chico and sake roll I ordered were good, one of them (idk which) had lemon peel on it so I just chuck those away. Which also meant chucking away half the sauce lol. It was good, I prefer nigiris more still Overall the quality is lower than other restaurants, even though they look nice but you can just taste it, not putrid or bad, but lower in quality. Sashimi- my friend ate this one and she said it was lower quality also. Imo, they're huge and pretty still. Ice cream- was good as usual, in a cup but is good. Extra Wasabi definitely worse quality, it looks like play doh. Thas it, just an update since I reviewed this place before Ive noticed I gave one star higher than my last reviews, its prob cause I ate mostly nigiris this time which is my favorite type of sushi. Find what you like and have a better experience Lower quality everything but I still liked the food and got full so 5/5

Started out great till the waiter walked away and didn't come back we had to reorder our food with the counter person was a lot more friendly but the kicker, why we are reviewing is he was bussing the tables and went strait with the same gloves on and served me my food I wanted to puke and told him I don't want it because of what happened he walked away and returned to bussing and serving everybody else just sick touched my food with his wet gloves and not even sorry or nothing else he couldn't even understand the conversation I had (seemed like ) terrible service (watch when you go in they obviously haven't taken the food handlers class

We did the lunch all you can eat for $22.99, which is offered Monday-Friday. It was 10/10 for polite and kind staff, great prices, food quality and quantity, and cleanliness. We expected them to be working out kinks since this was their 2nd day open; they did fantastic. Went at 11:15 to avoid the rush. We got the dynamite, avatar, bake, sakura and forest roll. Favorites were the dynamite and forest. The nigiri is great too. 1 piece and delicious. Yellowtail, seared tuna and inari (imitation crab + seaweed, wrapped in a sweet bean pocket). We were happy with everything we ordered. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes! "Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore" - the Itamae or sushi chef is not from around our little town of Chico :) He did a great job with plating and the beauty of the rolls.

Fresh sushi! Great service! Clean and comfortable! Nigiri/rolls/sides! All you can eat! Was pleasantly surprised!

I'm not sure if it's because we went at a busy time (Thursday 7:30pm) but it took such a long time to get our food :( I didn't get any photos of the sushi rolls because we were starving by the time the food finally came out and just ate it right away. The sushi was really good (Hot Mama Roll, Pink Lady, Sacramento Roll and Spider Roll) but it just sucks we had to wait 45 min for a few rolls.

Been a few times now. Not too busy. Priced great. Food doesn't take too long to get there. Nice staff. Wish they had dipping sauces besides soy. The Al la carte doesn't have pricing for take out on menu

Fish was very fresh and tasty. Finally, finished up with California roll. Very nice, but more crab, less cream cheese. Our favs have been the Japanese Tacos, Gyoza, Sushi Sampler Plate and any number of rolls. The side salad with the Wasabi dressing has always been and is still delicious! Every place can have an off day or item but the last two visits leave us looking for other options. The sauce for the Japanese Tacos has become so spicy hot we've had to have them hold it - something's changed there. The gyoza (2 orders for one person and one order for the second person were all served on the same plate, forgivable but they were bland and the sauces were spilled when the waitress set them down. The Sushi sampler contained "room temp", not cold raw fish and was literally flavorless AND the rice tasted old and chalky. I tried the spicy tuna roll the month before and I could not eat it. It was flavorless and warm. Our last visit's service was very poor. Had to ask more than once for the basic wasabi and ginger. Then we had to ask for our beverages again halfway through our meal. Used to be awesome but this is two poor experiences in a row. I've been enjoying Japanese cuisine throughout California my entire life and this just wasn't worth it. The place is also loud and rushed.

Was slightly concerning for dinner time to be so slow but it also was nice not dealing with other folks. The second visit was very strange as our food took forever, yes we had one couple ahead of us and one pick up order but it still took over 20 minutes for our first roll and our daughters avocado roll arrived last and an hour after ordering. This was just strange but they only had one sushi chef working. Another issue was our omakase orders, one was just a Tina roll and the other was the surf n turf roll. Which both rolls are totally fine but it wasn't what I thought I'd get when ordering omakases. Also the ginger that say was really flavorless, I've never had such watery bland ginger before. Being in the old Japanese blossom build it has plenty of space, and with the lack of customers the parking lot was a lot easier to deal with compared to when it was JB. No music was playing but it was well lite and didn't have any noticeable smells. If we could remove the odd Saturday night dinner it would rank higher. I can no longer justify the high price point for a dining experience that has not once met it. Let's start with the good: the fried rice cakes are incredible. The ambience feels really nice and upscale. There are some delicious food items here. The service is friendly. Last night was my final straw though. The service was incredibly slow. We ordered a couple appetizers and a couple rolls. The appetizers were on the slower side, but within reason. But then we were there for over an hour (like actually timed, not me being hyperbolic), and we still hadn't gotten our rolls. Now full disclosure, my mom does have a shrimp and crab sensitivity. However, she made it clear to the server that this is not a contact allergy. She specified: She can handle things being fried in the same oil. A simple wipe down of the food prep service suffices. She has to actually ingest the food for it to affect her. Well. It had been over an hour, and they had not even started on her rolls. When I asked someone (who I think may have been the manager?) to check on them, she let us know that they were starting right then and that with an allergy they have to clean off an entire station in order to serve, and so on. Uhm. How does that justify the fact that they clearly didn't even start cleaning a station at all for over an hour after we had ordered?? Do they expect us to wait till all other customers have left?? An allergy doesn't mean we should be completely de-prioritized. I know that she wasn't intending to make excuses and was intending to explain, but an explanation at that point is completely inadequate. To try to explain to someone with an allergy that service is going to be slower because they have to clean off an entire station... Do they think we've never been to restaurants before?? We know how it works and there's just no justification for that. The rolls were also terrible. We substitute tempura asparagus for my mom due to her not being able to eat shrimp. In our experience, this is quite standard with sushi restaurants. They served it with steamed and it was terrible. The rolls were also very thick cut, falling apart, and- I kid you not - not even cut all the way through. We got chu toro, one of our favorite items--they didn't trim the sinewy parts off. I had to send back a drink because it felt like I was drinking perfume. They took these items off thankfully but overall, we still spent over $100 and didn't even get sushi. Ugh. So frustrating and I just can't imagine myself giving them another try.
