I ate at Sake House for the first time a few years ago and fell in love for several reasons: great sushi, BOGO during the week and very close to where I live. I would have to agree with several of the statements below in that the Sake House seems to be going downhill over the last several months. The sushi is inconsistent. Some nights it's great, full of flavor and fresh while on other nights grocery store sushi would be better. My favorite roll by far is their Spicy Tuna and a new favorite is the Alaskan. Sake House seems to have the best Spicy Tuna roll of anywhere I have been. The other night, the Alaska had an unusual texture about it and each piece had to be dipped in soy sauce to give it any flavor. That roll may have dropped out of my favorites list. Overall, I'd say Sake House is average. One night it be might be amazing and the next it might leave you wishing for better. *I have only ever had their sushi. read more

Not what we'd call good sushi. And the price is too high for this area. We've paid less in LA for better taste. We ordered 5 rolls, but only got 4. That's OK cause we really didn't care for the food. Went Sun. night as last minute dinner selection. Not many people in the restaraunt, but it was Sunday. Service was pretty poor. Waitress messed up my order and my son's order but both were corrected. Saw her drop chopsticks on the floor and proceed to touch part of another meal while holding them after she picked them off the floor. Sushi was tasteless. Brought a "to go" box that had food on the inside cover and when I pointed it out, she wiped it off with her thumb.... I asked for a new one and she hesitated. Went with a huge group and we where treated like ROYALTY, Sushi Roll are not jumbo size but AWESOME TASTE, Not to mention the other dishes looked great and Staff was very very Polite. For 4 of the 25 of us that I paid for $101 with gratuity and that was 8Rolls and a Pad Thai dish and 1 appetizer... Can't beat that and we ate well!!!! I have visited about 4 times now and have enjoyed every single time. the last time I changed my standard choice of Hibachi grill steak and was slightly disappointed. I ordered the rice noodles with chicken and, although it was good, it lacked the vibrancy of taste I got from the Hibachi grill. I enjoy the service - friendly waitstaff and nice ambiance. Come to this place ever so often, my friends and I really enjoy the variety. I love the Teriyaki Chicken and the Hibachi fried rice. My friend's love the sushi rolls (I've never been big on fish), and always get the Tom Yum soup off the Thai menu. Sometimes the service can be a little slow and other times it's really fast, so it can be really hit or miss. But the servers are always polite. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. read more

It was cooked well but had an odd color to it that made it look unappealing. She said it tasted good but it looked grey/weird. The sushi here has been one of my favorites for many years. I have always loved the bogo deal which has kept me coming. Unfortunately they have increased their sushi prices dramatically and I think it's quite ridiculous. My normal roll used to be 10 dollars and now it is a 17 dollar roll!!!! I wish they would reduce the prices of the rolls because now the bogo isn't even worth it because it's what the old price of two rolls would regularly be without the deal. read more

This place surprised me. I went with my boyfriend and his family for Thursday night dinner and the restaurant wasn't crowded. Our waitress was mindful we had a one year old and made sure to position our plates out of reach, etc. or we will be stuck with a big mess. While the family stuck to the grilled menu, my boyfriend and I stuck with the sushi. I got the four piece Nigiri appetizer and we ordered a bunch of rolls to share. I was surprised how fresh the sushi was and the presentation was very pretty. Also we got the Buy 1st sushi roll, get the 2nd one free deal, Worth it! Food gets a 3.5, service gets at 4. They always remember us when we return and honestly I return for buy one get one free sushi. Its not the best sushi I've ever had, but its good especially if you love sushi and you can't afford to eat it everynight! Here you actually can. The inside is really pretty too. They have these long dangling chandeliers mounted on a very tall ceiling, very pretty and sparkly, one friend called it magical. I recommend the Jimmy Roll, Private Roll, Tuna Pizza and Green Apple. The sushi tasted good going down...not so good coming back up. On Sunday, four of us ordered sushi, soup and some rolls to go. By Monday afternoon, the three of us who had the sushi were sick (I'll leave out the details). I followed up with Web MD and we all had symptoms of food poisoning. I contacted the Sake House manager on Tuesday. He was able to locate our order on the computer. He assured me that his sushi was 100% safe. I am 100% he was wrong. The manager told me that he was going to call the owner and would call me right back. He never did. By Tuesday, the three of us had spend a good amount of time in bed and in the bathroom. Not fun. On Wednesday, I was able to eat chicken noodle soup and keep it down. My wife was recovering a bit slower. The food tasted good, but the manager was completely irresponsible in how he handled the situation. He could have called me back. He could have offered some remedy. He could have refunded our money. The bill was $71 but it is not about the money. It was about fixing a problem. I am not from the area so it is not about my future business, but I have told a number of people about this issue including the managers at the hotel I was staying at. SAKE HOUSE = BAD SUSHI. This place has really gone downhill in the past few months. I used to be a regular and living in the neighborhood this place is very convenient for me. The sushi is consistently good but this is why I won't be going anymore: 1) the last 3 times I have called in an order-on a weeknight-I have been told it would be ready in 20 minutes yet it has taken 45 minutes. Tonight I called at 7:30 and arrived at 8pm. There were maybe 3-4 tables in the entire restaurant. The staff isn't very apologetic about the length of time. After about 5 minutes of waiting the manager told me I was waiting on the edamame....what? Does it take 45 minutes to cook? By the time I got home the sushi was cold :( 2) the sanitation score was a 97.5 tonight.Had I known that before I ordered over the phone I wouldn't have eaten from there. I did an internship in Grad school at a health dept and spent a week doing surprise health inspections with the inspector. I was told to never eat at a restaurant that had a score lower than 98 and I saw what a 97 looks like. For a sushi restaurant it's just not cool. 3) they recently raised the prices. ALOT. The rolls I normally order were $10/11. They are now $13/14. With all of the above in addition to the lack of business I saw I have a feeling this place isn't going to hold out much longer. They just lost one loyal customer tonight. I doubt I'll be the last one. read more

The food was just ok I prefer kanki especially for the price. Rolls are buy one get one but they're so expensive your really paying for both. We got four rolls I was not crazy about any of them. My wife and I love the Sake House. It is our favorite restaurant and we have been coming here for over 8 years. The salmon is the best!! Honestly, the best sushi in raleigh. Went here for dinner and everything we had was top notch. We started out with the edemame which was a very generous portion and salted just right. For a main course we ordered 4 rolls of sushi and it was all so good we went back and ordered a couple more after we gobbled all of those down. The sushi rolls we had (specialty ones at least) were huge and the presentation on the plate was some of the best I've seen at a sushi restaurant. They went the extra mile and drew some art on the plate with various sauces which made the dishes all the more appealing. The service was excellent and prices were decent so I'd say this place is a must hit when I'm back in the area. read more

My wife & I have been to Sake House 3 times. We have not had anything we didn't like, although the only things we have ordered are sushi and salads (and the house sake). To me, the sushi is always good to very good. It's not the best I've ever had but it is good enough and consistent enough that this is our regular sushi place now. I can never remember the names of the rolls I tried, but here's my best recollection - The eel/avocado roll was good, and philly was good. Green dragon was very good. The Private Roll is also very good. My wife always gets a shrimp tempura roll of some kind and likes it (not sure exactly which one it is). Ginger dressing on the salad was very good, although salad is mostly iceberg lettuce (standard, I guess, but not my favorite) Seaweed salad - I tried this last time for a change of pace and really liked it. However, I haven't tried this anywhere else so I have no basis for comparison. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS HERE! Apparently, this is not a family friendly restaurant. We just left the restaurant feeling very disappointed and disrespected as one of the waitresses there asked us to quiet my baby's voice down because one adult customer had complaint about the noise. Surprised of what she was saying, I immediately told her that my baby was not screaming, crying, not even talking. At all times she was simply making the sounds that any normal 1 year old would make at a table. My husband then asked if she herself heard the baby screaming and she said no but that she was a happy baby and she needed to keep it down. Trust me, if my baby would have been really yelling, we would have been the first ones to leave. We have been there many times when there were other kids making noise. This is the second time we where there with our daughters and we will never come back. Not only their action was wrong but also the way they managed the situation was rude and disrespectful. I spoke with "the manager" who needless to care just basically said he cared more about the other customer complaining. I have never ever in my life experienced such a humiliating situation and I will make sure this gets to the owner. read more
