We ordered takeout from Mizu and overall had a good experience, though there were a few issues that keep this from being a 5-star review. The food we did receive was very good. The sushi was fresh, and the hibachi ribeye with fried rice and vegetables was cooked really well and full of flavor. Unfortunately, our order had multiple errors. One entire sushi roll was missing, and another was incorrect -- I ordered one salmon avocado roll and one spicy salmon roll with avocado, but received two salmon avocado rolls instead. Because of these mistakes, I can't rate it higher. That said, the quality of the food itself was solid, and if the order accuracy improves, this could easily be a great takeout spot. read more

Modern day sushi bar offering rolls, sushi and Sashimi as well as others entrees. The food is fresh. The tempura was of good quality. I try to avoid rice as much as possible, so I ordered the Bento box which had all of the above items I just mentioned. I did enjoy the whole meal. The restaurant was crowded so we sat at the bar. Mizu is incredible! The tuna nigiri was so fresh, it practically melted in your mouth. Their spicy tuna roll? Fire! The wasabi's legit, not that weak stuff. Atmosphere's cozy, staff's super friendly. My favorite the dynamite roll! Packed with shrimp tempura and creamy avocado, topped with this spicy mayo that hits just right. Crunchy, bold, and not too heavy-perfect balance of heat and flavor. I took my son here for his 15th birthday celebration. This was our first time at Mizu. We split the sushi plate for 2. It came with soup salad, chef's choice of sushi and two additional rolls of our choosing. Everything was fresh and delicious and my son demolished what I couldn't eat. It's been 5 years since I wrote a review for Mizu, and it's still just as delicious and amazing as it was 5 years ago. They no longer do half price days. They have removed some of the yummy rolls from their menu and discontinued the train of sushi that ran around the bar, but the freshness and quality hasn't changed. The woman that appears to be the owner is stoic. No personality. The staff is constantly turning over. However, if you look over those things... the sushi is fabulous. Service is alway very nice. We come here all the time. It's our go to Sushi spot for this area and we always recommend this place if anyone asks us. I've never left disappointed. I really wish they were able to bring the Sushi Train back because it was the only place around this area that had it. The main reason I like the train is because you can try all kinds of rolls without getting the full roll which is really good for anyone just starting to eat sushi and even for experienced sushi eaters. I've never visited and it was dirty and we've always received great service. You can come as you are or dress up, there's a mix of everyone in between, just come! I would say very large groups will be easy but call ahead, it's not a huge place. On the weekend the wait is usually around 20-30 minutes and at peak time (5-6) it's taken 45-59 minutes for us before. We usually wait to go until after 6 to be seated just after the dinner rush. I usually try a new roll every time I go. My favorite roll is the Red Dragon (smoked salmon, avocado, tuna, cilantro, masago, jalapeño, spicy honey sauce). It has a nice kick to it but the spicy honey sauce finishes it up nicely. For a veggie roll or a flavorful refreshing roll, I'd recommend, try the Mr. Green too read more

I always love Mizu! It's consistently good sushi and the staff is always friendly. Our favorites are the Freak and Sweet Dream rolls. The wait time isn't too bad unless it's prime time on a weekend. I wish they still had the sushi train but that went away in 2020 due to Covid. My son loved that when he was younger! My only issue is several times over the years, my wine glass has been dirty. However, they always made it right. Overall, Mizu is a solid choice for sushi in Wake Forest. read more

Highly recommend! Haven't had a bad meal or experience here. Only piece of advice if going on Thursday, Friday or Saturday - go early otherwise it's a 20-30 minute wait, but they do what they can to try and get you seated as quickly as possible. I ordered the Bento box, chicken teriyaki, which is suppose to include the chicken plus a house salad, shrimp & veggie tempura, gyoza, Ika sensai [which I didn't get nor want], seaweed salad [was offered kimchi instead, didn't want this either], & 4 pcs of California roll. 1] I've NEVER had beef/hamburger gyoza before, never knew it existed, which was almost deep fried and burnt, not steamed as I am use to. 2] Received one SKINNY butterflied shrimp that was so deep fried it was almost burnt - same goes for the Tempura veggies that where so over fried I would have thought they were deep fried in regular bread crumbs and not the light batter that tempura is suppose to be. 3] The chicken tasted like beef. I can only say this because there was almost no teriyaki taste to it at all. 4] California Roll is suppose to be made with crab salad/meat, cucumber and avocado - which I think the only thing inside was the cucumber and to top it off it had roe on top which I have never seen either I almost feel bad writing such a bad review since everyone else seems to like it here...but this was my experience. Fresh, delicious Japanese fare. Dinner with friends at Mizu on a recent Friday night. The place was full, but we waited less than 10 minutes for a table with no reservation. The restaurant is a storefront, taking 2 units in an outdoor strip plaza. The room is divided in half - a bar to the left surrounded by 10 booths and tables, a central sushi bar with about 20 seats, and another dozen booths and tables to the right of the sushi bar. Noise level is moderate, so conversation is easy without shouting, even when the room is full. Our server, Preston, did a great ijob. With a charming smile, he explained a couple of the sushi choices, staged the meal well and professionally kept our glasses full and the table bused. Thank you! We started with edamame and dynamite shrimp. The edamame are freshly steamed and sprinkled heavily with coarse salt. Delicious. Dynamite shrimp are lightly dredged in flour then fried crispy golden brown and tossed with a tangy sweet and sour sauce. There's just enough heat to call them "dynamite". The apps were a great start! I tried the sushi bento box. The dinner version includes vegetable tempura, salad, seaweed salad, and squid salad plus 4 pieces of nigiri, 6 pieces of sashimi and 4 California rolls. The nigiri and sashimi included tuna, salmon and red snapper. The fish was super fresh, sliced to order and delicious. The bento box with all the trimmings is a big meal, and a wonderful variety of different tastes and textures. We also tried a tuna poke bowl. A delicious bed of sticky rice with a big scoop of diced spicy tuna, slices of avocado, garden salad, seaweed salad and a heap of sliced pickled ginger. Tuna just spicy enough to stimulate the taste buds without making your eyes water. A great bowl. Because she couldn't decide which to order, our friend tried 2 unique sushi offerings - Mr. Green and Oozy. The Oozy is served warm - it's strips of crab and cream cheese, topped with a crab mix and spicy mayo, then baked. Mr. Green is served cold, it's a cucumber wrap stuffed with asparagus, mango, avocado and spring mix greens, slathered with wasabi dressing. Judged by the empty plate, these non-traditional sushi dishes were also very good. Our other dinner companion ordered hibachi steak. This is ribeye, grilled hibachi-style. It's sliced in the kitchen, and served with grilled vegetables and mushrooms and a scoop of fried rice. Steak was served just as ordered - medium. Another delicious entree. The tab for 4 with 4 glasses of wine was $120; reasonable for the quality of the meal and quantity of food. My sister lives near by and goes to Mizu with her family at least once a week. It's a MUST DO stop every time we visit. The owner, Jennifer is so nice and accommodating. She's always moving and getting things done for her customers and staff. They always ask for Twed as their server and she's on the ball! All of the staff is friendly and the restaurant is very clean. I have only gotten food from Mizu via take-out during COVID-19, so this review is not representative of the in-restaurant dining experience. Mizu has become our family's go-to Japanese restaurant near our home. I have tried both the Chirashi Don and Unagi Don and was happy with both. Neither are exceptional but they do offer good value for the price. The fish in the chirashi is always cut thick and the unagi is priced lower than average. Mizu definitely fulfils the Japanese food cravings I get and I do wonder if the quality would be high in-person. I have also ordered rolls on a few occasions and found them to be pretty average. They were much smaller in circumference than what is served at other restaurants and some of the toppings, like fried onions, are a bit off-putting. Considering the limited Japanese food options in the area, this is a pretty decent choice. I will be back simply because there is nowhere else to go, but Mizu is not somewhere I would go out of my way for. read more

Have eaten takeout from here numerous times this year (thanks COVID). I get sushi each time but have tried their soup and hibachi as well. Everything has been fantastic. They are a busy restaurant though and I typically experience a wait time of anywhere from 40-90 minutes. They seem to be busy no matter what day of the week it is. So I've been here twice but I forgot to do my review the first time :(. So this review encompasses both visits. The 4 star score is also the average, as I would consider my first visit to be a 5 and the second a 3. On My first visit I really focused on the sashimi, the fish felt really fresh and I could feel it melting in my mouth. It was great. I got one of their sashimi combos and really enjoyed it. The second time my wife and I only ordered sushi, for starters I placed my order over the phone and they told me 40 to 50 mins. I showed up after one hour and I still had to wait 15 more minutes for my order to be ready ! The sushi was ok, I was not really impressed though. We ordered 6 rolls that included the spider, dragon, Godzilla and volcano. Can't remember the other 2 ( not a good reason to remember) The Godzilla and the volcano were probably the best ones there. I don't think the quality and amount of food was worth the $80 that I paid. Later I found out that they have specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays; may be I'll try again one of those days. read more
