Went there for the first time last night as a guest at a birthday party, so my first impressions were favorable. Our party all ordered hibachi meals, so the younger ones of course were impressed with the chef's pyrotechnics and food tossing. I've seen much better, but really, I was there for the food, not the act. He could have been a bit more engaging, but I think he may not have had a lot of confidence in his English language skills. Not a big deal. The hostess/waitress on the other hand was timely and attentive, not a busybody. My hibachi shrimp (about a dozen count) was served with generous amounts of fried rice and veggies. They also served a nice sweet creamy white sauce as a condiment along with a ginger concoction. I really didn't care for the ginger stuff...not enough ginger! A little disappointing seeing as I love ginger. I sampled my wife's hibachi chicken as well, and thought that both dishes were very good. For dessert I made the mistake of ordering the fried Oreos. They looked great, but they were nothing to write home about. I wanted to give them a 4, but couldn't pull the trigger. We'll return here soon to check out their lunch menu. Maybe some sushi? I love Japanese food and i'm gonna start off by saying that the food was gas. The ONLY problem I had with my experience is the hair and the amount of it I found in my Super Salad. Food is great you're gonna enjoy it and the service is nice, but please wear some damn hairnets. read more

We didn't even eat. We walked in and the place was empty. The koi pond was cloudy and looked dirty. They seated us in the Hibachi area and the table next to us was dirty, not sure how long the people had been gone. The area where the cooks stand and cook had food all over the floor. We arrived and no one was inside eating really. Service was super slow. Took 10 minutes for drink orders and about 30 minutes for our chef to come out. The service of this establishment was unacceptable. I started off my meal by ordering a Lemon Drop Martini. My drink was made with lime juice. I asked to switch to an Apple Martini, that was even worse. There was no apple taste at all only vodka and it was hot! I kept the drink though and did not complain at all. I ordered a side of noodles to go with my Hibachi Entree, the noodles were so bland, mushy, and cold. I told the server I did not like it she told me that her manager said that I could only get 50% off of the noodles. The managers reasoning behind it was just because I don't like it does not mean that no one else will and to just take it home and give it to someone else. I told them I don't want the noodles at all.. I had to pay for the noodles anyway!! Definitely not a place I will return too. read more

The hostess saw us standing there along with others walked past us twice not even greeting us or asking us to give her a min ( she was not busy just talking to the bartender) five min past by she comes over grabs menus and seats us by placing menus down and walking off not saying a word. Went for lunch awhile back, this Sake House's service is leaps and bounds ahead of the one in Beaufort, but if you have been to the one in Beaufort you know that it isn't saying much. The bar is cool and they have a nice lunch sushi special but overall this place is nothing special. read more

Lolllll..... very interesting experience here sorry for the long paragraph but I'm being thorough. First there's a Huge language barrier with all the employees, which I wouldn't mind... but it was detrimental when ordering and trying to relay what I wanted to eat. The cook threw steaming hot broccoli onto my chest to "catch" in my mouth and when I said no several times he threw it anyway. Also sprayed water into my face, some some type of joke part of his act, I laughed and brushed it off while dabbing my face with a napkin. When cleaning the grill he splashes hot water and burned the face of the gentleman across the table (he did not brush that off.) When we went to look at the fish in the coy pond while waiting on our meal we were told to sit down several times because you're not supposed to look at them? We got medium rare steak and it was rare, no big deal ate it anyway, got super sick after ...a very interesting experience. Sushi was terrible. Hard not to laugh at the experience read more

Someone commented that there is an A rating on their door... So my review was wrong. That person is not correct. My review reflected the rating at the time and it was published in the paper. That's where I got the rating I am very glad they were able to improve their rating. I on the other hand will not So I stand by the review and by insta-cleanse I received minutes after eating there. Stopped in early afternoon on a Wednesday for a sushi fix. They have half price sushi on Monday thru Thursday. Very nice modern atmosphere. We really like the Cherry Blossom Roll. Overall the fish was just average, about what I expect at most all sushi places. I do regard myself as a sushi snob and my benchmark of comparison is Shumi in Somerville NJ where I regularly go to do Omakase with Jack and Ike at the sushi bar. read more

i never even got to order my food. it began with me calling the sake house a couple stores down to make a order for pick up. the lady on the phone asks to put me on hold and I reply with "alright". Then I hear her talking to other coworkers and say " I told him to hold and he said alright, alright my a$$" from there i got into the restaurant to further investigate. I can hear them talking from my phone so I know exactly who it was. I walk up to them and repeat what they said to me. from there she catches an attitude and starts arguing with me and then says "whats up ni**a" as if she wants to fight me. I kept asking for a name and she would not give me it so I asked for a manager and begin waiting on the couch for the manager to come. While waiting, she comes up to the front desk and Kept arguing with me again and this time I tell her "we are in a restaurant why are you yelling" and she proceeds to tell me "shut up bi*ch". Then a couple customers proceed to intervene because they had children with them so I decided to leave and just wait for the manager to enter the restaurant once I talk to the manager she listens to my story and then ask all other coworkers then comes to me and says the "only thing that she knew of was that she called me a bi*ch and that she will go home for the day and then she told her "that it's no good to call people that". All I have to say if you want to eat here be prepared to fight for your food and not because it's good. I wouldn't know. I didn't make it that far. read more

This is probably the worst service I have had at this location yet. When we arrived we were seated and we were here at least 30 minutes before a member of the party had to flag down a waitress for drinks. When we ordered, the salads that came out were flooded with water to half of the bowl... perhaps it should be labeled as Salad in Soup rather than Salad and Soup. There was a large wait time between the courses- too much for sushi that was visible on top of the counter for a long time before they were brought to us. We were given checks and waited 20 minutes for them to be picked up. I have lost hope for improvement. It is a Saturday night so there is no excuse for it to take 2 hours to get in and out for simple sushi. No wonder it was nearly empty and this restaurant will continue to be until they shape up or shut down. read more

Staff is amazing, management is terrible. I don't like to complain and I am the type of person who rolls their eyes at customers who think they get to push staff around because they are "regulars". However, I do go to the restaurant at least 2 or 3 times a month and I have never had a bad experience until now. This is the one and only time I've ever complained about my food and the manager handled the situation very poorly. My dish was cold, over sauced, gritty, and I had 3 incidents with something small and sharp in the food, one of which I accidentally swallowed. Out of politeness I attempted to get thru half of the dish just to see if maybe it was just one part that was bad. When we finally mentioned the issues to the server she called over her manager who insisted that the dish is always severed room temperature (I have had it before and it's always been hot and after reviewing several different recipes for the dish online it seems the dish is meant to be served hot) and asked us "What do you want me to do about it?". Very professional. When we asked if the dish could be removed from the ticket he became upset that I had eaten half of it. We asked if, at very least, we could have half off and while he agreed to do that the level of attitude we got over the $8 discount was ridiculous. Once again, I do like this place but apparently, if you have an issue you'll have to raise hell to get anything about it as being polite gets you no where. read more

We had lunch today at Sake House- a gross experience from the beginning to the end. Diners who are experienced and expect proper Japanese food (i.e. New York, Los Angeles, etc. quality): stay away! Rural inexperienced diners will probably have no issue with the food and experience. Previous reviews seemed favorable from several years ago- I'm assuming that they've lost their spirit and edge as this is definitely a poor restaurant. First, the entryway has some type of bucket with water or some type of solution that greets you as soon as you enter. A restaurant's entry can speak volumes of what to expect inside, and I should have turned around at that point. Inside, the hostess stand was disheveled with menus and bill holders- visibly cluttered. The decor is odd- plain and boring. We walked by an indoor koi pond filled with murky water- very unsanitary looking to have in a restaurant. Nonetheless, we were hungry and hoping that the food would be terrific. It wasn't. We were seated at sticky table- the menus practically stuck to the surface and with condiments that haven't been cleaned for quite some time. There was some type of liquid on the floor under the table next to us, and the dining room had an overall unclean feel to it. Additionally, there were small fruit flies buzzing around our table. Our waitress brought us drinks but then could not be found ( nor any other wait staff) for at least 10 minutes. The only person visible was a younger male staff member sitting at the bar using his smartphone. I joked that I was tempted to call the house # to get some service. Classy when you see employees lounging at work and not paying attention to customers. We were one of three tables in the entire restaurant. We ordered the lunch specials ( bento box style). My friend asked a basic question and the waitress didn't have the answer- very sweet person but seemed rather inexperienced. Anyway, I ordered steak teriyaki. I was asked how I wanted it cooked, to which I replied medium rare. When I received the lunch, the steak was some type of thin and cheap flank steak. Totally cooked well done and chewy. The teriyaki sauce was runny and the California roll and fried egg roll were average. Again, the "steak" was awful- I really wanted something juicy and properly cooked and it's clear that the management went cheap when buying meat. Again, when we finished and wanted our check, we had to wait for another 10 minutes before our waitress and another female staff member graced the dining room with their presences, and even then seemed preoccupied with anything other than customers. Keep in mind that our waitress never checked with us during the meal to find out how our meals were, or if we needed anything. After paying, I stopped into the restroom. While it seemed clean, the staff neglected to change the massive industrial size toilet paper roll, so I had to juggle it to get any paper off of it. BTW: I forgot to mention that they've proudly displayed several local media "Best of" awards in their entry. As a media exec, I can assure you that these awards have no merit for the most part, and clearly this restaurant is not befitting of any award. I haven't tried the other Japanese restaurants in Bluffton, but I will highly recommend driving to Hilton Head's Hinoki- great food. read more

We only eat here Monday thru Thursday for half price sushi and happy hour. They make great drinks and most sushi rolls are very good. Others just average. The service in inconsistent though. But overall, we enjoy our food and have never had any issues. Fyi-they now have an online ordering system. But it's new and they haven't even figured out their own system yet. So I would avoid using it for a couple months. read more

We went there for our 1 year anniversary and we were told it would be a 20-30 minute wait for hibachi. We sat at the bar, ordered drinks and an appetizer and waited...for an hour and a half. We wanted this night to be special...but apparently Sake House didn't agree. Then when we finally decided to leave, we asked for a manager...no manager around. This place is okay- sushi is mediocre. They have good deals on 1/2 soosh a few days of the week which is great. Hibachi is decent.

Average Japanese food, acceptable service. Our kids love the koi pond although it could be a little cleaner as it is in the entry way of the restaurant. We arrived early with our large party and were seated right away (although I do hate the policy that your whole party must be present before they seat you-this is a giant hassle when you have small kids who are thirsty etc and there are plenty of open tables). Our server was friendly enough but her English was not great so ordering was a little slow. Our chef was competent and the food was run of the mill. Not great but not awful. Sushi is good but compared to Fujiyama it's nothing special. read more

First visit for an early dinner on a Thursday night. Monday to Thursday is half price Sushi and Sashimi. When we arrived pronptly greeted & seated. Waitress appeared with menus and took our drink order. (Large hot sake $5.50) I tried the edaname app along with salmon, yellow tail, eel sushi. Very fresh and nice portions. We spent $25.00 for dinner and will definitely be coming back. Interior is a little tired. Food & service were great! The restaurant was crowded when we left. Simply AMAZING! The sushi is top and the hibachi is amazing too! I go here once a week during lunch and my family has all the kids birthdays and celebratory meals here at night! Great staff, great food, clean bathrooms and beautiful interior! I can't recommend this place enough! The only complaint is that they've played the same CD over and over for the past year, but unless you're in love with the place and go there as much as my friends and I do, it won't bother you a bit! read more

The food was well below average. We order 5 dishes. Two rolls were good and the other three dishes were borderline inedible. Top it off with the fact that the floors and tables were massively sticky. We arrived for dinner at 5 p.m. and were one of two tables in the place so it's not as though a busy night kept the staff from staying on top of the mess. If you're interested in sushi don't go here. Sushi Sakana is the best we've found in the area so it's worth the drive. read more

We have eaten in the restaurant before and had a good experience, but tonight we ate Hibachi and were disappointed. First, our tea tasted like hot water - no flavor at all. I asked for my dressing on the side, but was brought a salad swimming in dressing. Our party of 2 was seated with a party of 6, which I think was part of the problem. If they were busy, I could understand seating us with a larger group, but that wasn't the case. DO NOT GO HERE! It's Saturday, 7pm on Memorial Day weekend and the place is almost empty, that should have been a sign not to walk in. The name of the place has Sake in it, so you would think you would have a good choice of sake to drink. Unless you consider a good choice being hot or cold, there is absolutely zero selection. The hot sake tasted like toilet water. The ginger dressing tasted like ketchup, mayo and a little bit of ginger. The food was absolutely flavorless. I called this afternoon and the person who answered was so rude and said they dont do reservations which is a lie. Best sushi in town! We always order sushi and sashimi for two and it is delicious! The presentation is artistic and pleasing. The seafood soup for two is crave-worthy! The restaurant itself is modern, clean, and tasteful. We have also ordered carry out sushi a few times and it has been perfect everytime. Best place to go. I have been living in Bluffton for eight years, and my fiancé and I go to Sake House all of the time for half-priced sushi. The restaurant is always very friendly and welcoming, and the food is delicious. It's probably one of the few decent places to go out to eat at here, especially if you don't want to break the bank or drive all of the way to Savannah. read more
