Visiting from Florida looking for a nice sushi spot for lunch. I didn't want to go into Hilton Head so we decided somewhere outside of that and landed in Bluffton at this spot. Had what seemed to be good reviews so we took a chance. The ambiance seemed eclectic and cozy. Walking in we were greeted with a warm welcome. Server was very attentive. We got three sushi rolls; The Tataki Roll, Summer Roll, and The Lighthouse Roll. I give it three stars because of the ratios of the rolls themselves. Seemed there was too much rice and not enough fish. One roll took longer to come out than the other two hence why I only got a pic of the two. Theres not many places that I even consider giving full stars, but this one absolutely blew me away. I'm somewhat new to the area, and it's been a surprising struggle to find good Japanese fair, and decent, well-priced sushi. Too many places give ya tiny slivers of fish for exorbitant prices. Not here. Fancy Sushi's sushi is priced exactly as it should be, and it's absolutely top notch quality. I forgot to take a picture of the Sushi & Sashimi Deluxe I got bc I tried it and simply couldn't stop eating! The mackerel sushi was insaaaanely good. Couldn't have asked for better. Great texture too, which most places around here just... I dunno, maybe they're not all trained sushi chefs that know how to slice it properly. But here, whew, was fantastic. I also had the Chicken Yaki Udon, and it was wild just how much chicken and veg was in it. The portion was huge, and I swear, it probably had two chicken breasts of meat in it. It was superb. Cooked perfectly, and had a nice bite to it even when I made the 20 min journey home. I couldn't have chosen a better dish to try my first time here. I highly highly recommend the Yaki Udon. Wow. Lastly, the waitress working the tables and the register up front kinda knocked me back with her kind personality and care. She remembered my name from my order slip when she came back from the kitchens with my food, and made sure I knew to hold the bags upright bc of the delicious soup that was included (totally a banger too, for how unassuming it looked!), amongst other personable things I haven't noticed around here much. I'm just sooo pumped to have found a great Sushi/Japanese place that's not super overpriced, like soooo many are, being HHI-adjacent. Again, I highly highly recommend if you've had great sushi and great yaki udon and are looking for a local place that excels with both. There seriously isn't much that could be improved on. It was all such a smooth process and top notch food. Oh! Also, I was given a free sushi roll as well in my bag! It was sincerely unexpected, and it had a little note written on it saying "Thanks!" Restaurant is permeated by cooking odors due to insufficient venting of kitchen processes. Service was marginal and slow which was blamed on the kitchen. We were a party of four requesting two separate checks. Because of lack of familiarity with the menu, we did not realize when we were served the wrong order. Food was very tasty but one entree was not served until after the others in the party had nearly finished theirs. It was comparable to grocery store sushi we didn't finish anything let alone even making it half way through our meal. The soft shell crab appetizer was soggy and oily no crunch whatsoever. My husband and I moved to the Bluffton area from NJ and were so shocked to find that there are no good sushi restaurants around. There are sushi restaurants, but the fish is soso and everything is doused in sauce to cover up the mediocre fish. Boy were we happy when we discovered this place!! The fish is fresh and melt in your mouth!!! Their entire boat is made of sashimi and nigiri, and it is just excellent! The staff is friendly and inviting! The waitress was the only one on staff that night taking care of at least 10 tables by herself, so to say the service was slow would be an understatement. I ordered the Sushi Dinner Deluxe, which was 10 pieces of chef chosen sushi and a California roll. I also ordered an Alaska roll. Everything but the red snapper, which was a first time try for me, was very good. The person with me had the chicken teriyaki with fried rice and ate almost all of it and said it was delicious. Though they have a wide selection of special rolls, I wish they had more raw special rolls with salmon and tuna instead of fried and tempura-based ones. We placed our order, I got the Fancy Cake (I believe this was the name) and the Tokyo roll. My husband got the Philadelphia Roll and I believe it was a Triple spicy roll (they were on a specialty menu and I should have taken a picture). The rolls were delicious. My roll wasn't actually a roll, I probably would not order it again as it was difficult to eat and way too much mayo on top... but even with those things said, it was very good. My husband loved both of his rolls, but Next time, I'll definitely be trying something different. Even though I wasn't the happiest with my rolls, it was not the fault of the restaurant... it was just my preference and taste. I will be going back and trying a different roll, however next time I will only need one roll as the specialty rolls are very filling! read more
