I made our reservation weeks in advance, noted that we were a party of four, and requested one of the booths on the platform. We arrived early, at 5:00 for our 5:30 reservation, and were immediately met with unprofessional service. The hostess informed us that all booths were taken and that booths were "not guaranteed," so we accepted a less desirable floor table.
Our server then began the evening by addressing us by our first names -- something neither of us had invited or permitted. My husband felt disrespected, and I had to correct the server and explain that this was inappropriate. Only then did he switch to "Mr. ----." This is not how fine dining begins.
About 30 minutes later, a booth became available. When I asked to be moved, the hostess said we could sit there but would have to vacate by 7:00 because of another reservation. I reminded her that she had just told us booths were not guaranteed, which made her reasoning both inconsistent and illogical.
We enjoyed our meal, and our server offered us desserts "to go." We requested the bananas foster we had seen at a nearby table. The chef came out, we complimented him -- and then, unbelievably, he told us we needed to leave because they had 7:00 reservations.
To make matters worse, the server returned and began arguing with my husband about how we could not remain at our table any longer. My husband politely told him he was not interested in arguing, but the damage was done. In decades of dining at exceptional restaurants around the world, we have never been asked to leave a table, let alone confronted by a server.
It was mortifying, especially during a birthday celebration. The entire evening felt rushed, dismissive, and far more focused on loud bar patrons than guests seeking a refined dining experience.
We will not return, and we cannot recommend The Bluffton Room. Fine dining is not just about food -- it is about hospitality, respect, and professionalism. Unfortunately, all three were missing here.
