But, bust my buttons, Sushmi is actually Hindu female name, not a name for Asian cusine, which means welcoming or pleasant, (which I know you knew, but I didn't, lol), but I digress, along with some other Chinese classics then we can highly recommend you visit AKOMEYA right here in Bluffton, SC. Why? Because my friends, their food entrees are actually very savory and delicious treats. Their ambiance is inviting, neat, and clean. Their Servers are friendly, personable, and helpful. Their prices are affordable, that's right, as in, most of us can actually afford to pay for them. For instance, they offer four lunch (ONLY) Chinese meals that are relatively healthy as prepared with a delicate balanced of ingredients that are tastebuds delight. And yes, Jethro, them there "viddles" will fill your belly and keep you a comin back for more helpins! But for how much? $10.00 per entree. Now that them their is an affordable price for lunch, even for Jethro da Bodeen. Their diner menu offers many delightful and tasty tantalizing entrees as well which we have also have enjoyed multiple times. So if you have a hankerin for some good viddles like our man Jethro, it's time to get on down to AKOMEYA and git sum. BTW, Akomeya is also a specialty rice shop with locations at many major train stations in Tokyo. We walked in and the was ONE table of five in the whole place. Should have been our first sign. The service was the WORST I've ever had! The server asked once if we needed drinks. Never asked again. Then I asked for a glass of water and she didn't say a word. Just turned around and got it. Brought it back and just sat it down and walked away. We ordered two sushi rolls and she didn't bring utensils to eat it with. I had to find them for us. Then my wife wanted a little bowl for soy sauce. I had to go find it because our server was no where to be found. She had an attitude about anything we asked for. I'm not joking when I say it was the worst service I've ever had. Needless to say the tip wasn't what it should have been or could have been. Now the food? Awesome! I had the hot sand sour soup (one of the best I've ever had), we had two different sushi rolls. One was the Akomeyea roll and the other was some tuna roll I didn't eat. The chicken low mien was very good and plenty of it. I gave it 3 stars because the food was very good. If we ever decide to get dinner here again it would definitely be to go. No way would I eat in the restaurant again with service like that and as empty as the place was. 8-9-24 Noon Came here for a ladies luncheon. They seated us to the back of the restaurant where you would have hibachi. Parking was easy to find out front. There was one server and she was a rock star as we were a group of twenty. I ordered from the lunch menu General Tso Chicken with fried rice. As well as an ice tea with fresh lemon. The tea was delicious. The portion of the lunch was large. The fried rice was a one and done. It was lacking any vegetables that I was expecting. We got fortune cookies with our checks. Very well priced and clean restaurant. Will come back with my husband. This is the first Chinese restaurant that I have seen in this area. read more

Beautiful atmosphere inside this Asian bistro. They have quite the sushi selection. The dining area was very clean and relaxing. Our service was great. I do have some allergies and they worked with me wonderfully. We were very satisfied eating lunch here. The only issue is they have a lunch menu but were not currently serving lunch portions. Went there for dinner recently with a girlfriend and our Chinese dishes I had the moo goo gai pan were delicious, plus I took home. A sushi roll for the next day and it was fresh and well. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt because in my mind this is not a 3 star place, but a 4 is pushing it as well the other way. Akomeya was a roller coaster of very good to meh. Nothing was downright awful. It's a very big space, with dark moody lighting and Asian flair. It felt clean and comfortable though we snagged a booth to the side, something in the main area by the bar might have felt colder. Full bar, which is always appreciated and plenty of parking. We started off with some apps, which were probably the high point. This is the best sushi that I have had since moving to SC. Fresh, expertly rolled, and tasty. The wifey had steamed dumplings which were also great. Not too doughy and the filling was spot on. The egg roll was plentiful as well and hand rolled. It came in piece# of 4 and we scarfed down 3. I think the fourth piece would not have microwaved well. Things teetered a bit from there. The wife's sesame chicken was too sweet, like too much brown sugar or something, though cooked nicely. I also don't think the chicken was A1 quality. I got the Kung Pao chicken, same chicken as hers I am sure but diced so you don't notice the quality. My vegetables though seemed almost raw, like they threw them in at the last minute, making everything tough to eat. And no spice whatsoever, which is typical unfortunately in the tourist area. Sadie was a great server and they gave you plenty of food for the price. It's just when a place like this usually tries to combine Japanese and Chinese food something suffers, unless you are Morimoto. I would definitely get a sushi dinner here, but the search for great Chinese in the low country continues. read more

We only did take out early in their existence and they were good enough to become overwhelmed early on. Another Asian restaurant opened recently so finally good Asian food in Bluffton. We eat in now and they do a good job. The menu is limited but the service is attentive. read more

We had a great sushi meal we splurged on the Akomeya Boat. All the sashimi fish was excellent. The rolls were delicious that came with the boat. Kani salad was not in spicy Mayo they served it with a side of ginger dressing even though it was a failed Kani salad it was delicious ginger dressing and I enjoyed the unexpected ginger crab salad. This place had some great sushi and sashimi. Really fresh fish and the rolls were big especially the Red Dragon Roll. We also had the crab rangoon and pan fried dumplings which were great. The waitress, Kay, was funny and very attentive. The inside of this place is really cool with a Japanese feel. Lots of wood. We truly enjoyed our dinner experience and we will be coming back! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and brought to a booth quickly. For drinks, we ordered House Cabernet and a Corona. Our waitress offered a cold glass for the Corona and that was nice of her to offer. She brought out crispy wontons and duck sauce for the table and they were good! We also ordered sushi and steamed dumplings for appetizers and both were absolutely delicious! For our entrees, we ordered the chicken with broccoli with white rice and honey shrimp with fried rice and both were great! The servings sizes of the entrees are plentiful. The food did come out hot and fresh but was flavorless. The staff is great, friendly and attentive. Pricing is high based on quality and presentation. This really is our go to place for Chinese food after missing our favorite place in NY. Cute clean place. Friendly and attentive servers. Really good food! Great noodles and duck sauce to begin with. Haven't tried the sushi yet in any visits. Our favorites are spring rolls and crab Rangoon and the soups for starters. Most of the main courses are great. General chow not so great made with tiny dark meat in a lot of batter. Mongolian Beef was great flavor-shrimp dishes full of shrimp. The staff hides in the kitchen ! asked for a appetizer then told waitress to wait until I finished my appetizer before my dinner came out then 2 minutes later out came the food! I sent it back to kitchen then the waitress brought it back to me cold after 3 minutes! I took it home but not sure why when it was not busy they staff is not better about service! also order more than one cocktail at a time because they do not seem to be aware of customers in their restaurant! Our experience here was not good. There were a few positives, so I'll start with those: 1. Parking was easy, and we were seated right away. 2. The ambience is nice. The inside has some cool features and the lighting is trendy. The music was quiet and not overbearing. Here are just SOME of the negatives: 1. Some of the menu items did not include a description, making it annoying because had to wait for the server to keep coming back to the table. Also, there were no pictures of any menu items. If you aren't going to explain what the items are, at least show us some photos so we can try to figure it out on our own. 2. When she finally did come back, our server was unable to answer any questions about the menu. She just said "I don't know" and "I think it has ... ingredients". She didn't ask the kitchen staff for any answers, so we never found out what some of the menu items were. We were just left with a lot of "I thinks" and "I don't knows". 3. The calamari appetizer was not good. The calamari was breaded, but it was not crispy. When we received it, the breading was soft and gooey as if it hadn't been fried long enough, and the calamari itself was chewy and overcooked. Not sure how we ended up with overcooked calamari that was also undercooked at the same time. The lettuce or spinach that the calamari was served with was wilted and brown. We couldn't figure out if it was old butter lettuce or old spinach leaves because it was so wilted and brown. Pretty disappointing. The sauce served with the calamari was good though. 4. The shrimp tempura roll that I ordered was missing the crab inside the roll (before I ordered it, I asked the server what was inside because this was one of the items that didn't have a description. Our server "thought" it was supposed to have tempura shrimp, crab, avocado, and cucumber which sounded great, but when it was brought out, it did not have the crab inside) and the server did not apologize, or offer to bring the missing crab to the table, or offer a discount for the missing food. The roll was not very good. I had 4 pieces and was over it. 5. The Fantastic Roll that my guest ordered was smothered in sauce, so much so that you could not even see where the sushi was to pick it up. And hers was missing the spicy tuna from the roll. Maybe they tried to cover up the fact that one of the main ingredients was missing by putting so much sauce on it that the only thing we could taste was sauce? It was not good. 6. I asked for a water refill many times and never received one. I had nothing to drink while eating my meal. 7. It took SO long to get the bills. And when we did finally receives the bills, our server has split our check incorrectly and had to redo it, which took yet another 10 minutes. There were only two of us at our table, so it was an easy split check with a total of four items between the two of us. Needless to say, we were both underwhelmed with the quality of the food and the service here. The building has potential, because it looks nice and the ambiance is nice, but everything else was greatly lacking. read more

Definitely worth trying if you are a Bluffton native. The food is classic Chinese food done well and some good sushi options! Full bar, nice tv setup, modern clean restaurant, and fast service. Some people complaining about prices are out of their mind, if you want a nice restaurant to operate in this area then they need to keep the lights on. The food here is always good. Service is iffy, but they seem to try. However, last nite my husband went for dinner w 4 friends. His bill was $15, and he tipped 20%, $3. When he reviewed his credit card statement, the charge was $23. He stopped at the restaurant and they pulled up the receipt which the tip had been CLEARLY changed from a 3 to an 8. They did refund the $5, but if you go, CHRCK YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENT!!!!!!!! I'm sure this is not an isolated occurrence. EDIT- ANOTHER member of my husbands party had HIS bill changed as well!!
