What a unique and stunning experience! We landed here on grand opening night and secured a couple seats at the intimate bar with online reservations. First off the space is absolutely beautiful in a minimal refined Japanese design. Staff is eager to create an amazing experience as well as educate diners on the background of each sake. We ordered a handful of menu items and opted for the paired sake for each. Food and drink items are so thoughtfully matched and really complement each other! It was so fun to sample such a wide variety of sakes and experience how they can really enhance a dish. It was fun listening to the owner, chef, and sake sommelier espouse their love and wisdom on all things sake! As a very casual sake enjoyer, Sake Bar Gaga is a fun place for all levels of sake enthusiasts.

Sake Bar Gaga is easily one of the most unique dining experiences I've ever had in the U.S. They are offering an expert-level sake experience that you can usually only find in Tokyo, and only a few other elite spots around the globe. This is a new sake-pairing-focused restaurant that has taken over the old Sushi Gaga space. Half the food menu has a Eureka! tag on it, which represents a brilliant collaboration with EUREKA! Tokyo, one of the most legendary sake-pairing restaurants in the world. The other half of the menu features classic items done exceptionally well, like their clam sakamushi and marinated sashimi. The star of the show, of course, is the sake experience itself. I've been drinking sake for a decade, and even I tried some completely new styles that paired perfectly with every dish. What's even better? Every sake comes with a different style of glassware! The pairing here is a triple threat: the sake, the food, and the glass. The sake experts at the bar will walk you through every details, not only they provided great services, I felt that I was having a private sake lesson just by dining there. Can you find another spot with a larger sake selection? Yes. Can you find another spot with great izakaya items? Sure. But I don't think anywhere else in the U.S. is close to Sake Bar Gaga when it comes to offering such a meticulously curated sake selection, expertly designing each dish to match, and utilizing specific glassware to complete the full sensory experience. Don't miss out. This will soon be a major sake destination in San Diego.

Parking is really hard, so preferably take an uber or park at the conventiom center or Hilton. Its only a 10 min from there to the restaurant and super easy access to get put of downtown. I really like this place because the ambiance is like being in Spain, DJ and Live Latin Music until around 1am. Decor is like being in a Spaniard "Bar" and it is usually pretty busy. Full bar, good cocktails, wine list and a great variety type of Cold and Hot Tapas to share. Their signature dish for me Is the Black Seafood Paella made with the squid's black ink. Lively music and there is an area where you can dance if you are up to the mood Great place to gather with friends, they do take reservations or you can also walk in and sit at the bar if the tables are busy. There is like a second floor with tables to be a little bit more separate from the music. Ladies bathroom, very interesting decor with pics of cute famous Spanish and Latin Actors. The only thing is that there was no a/c in the restroom so it was super hot there even if were there for 2 minutes. Service was average. Not out of this world. I think our waiter was taking care of too many tables at the same time and he was always in a hurry. We had to hunt him down to get our orders taken and even for the bill. This left a lot to desire for the restaurant quality. But still a good option for dinner, fun, laughs and dance.

The waiter was patient and led us through what my father could and couldn't eat with his allergies. My 11 year old loved the mini burger. Presentation was excellent. They were nice enough to serve everything on the side for her. She loved the fresh crisped rosemary potato chips on the side. Some standouts from tapas menu are patatas bravas with crispy cheese covered potatoes with two dipping sauces (aioli and spicy) and of course the award winning soup earned its place in the menu. Waitstaff and service are outstanding. Plenty of menu options. Wine list is great and they led us to pick a lovely bottle. Definitely a fine dining option that was a great choice for my dad to try food better than he can get at home, as he requested. (Father approved. We had already visited outstanding restaurants like Muzita and Buona Forchetta). Adding Wolf in the Woods to my impress the guests list.

Overall, this place was still new when we went probably less than a year open. Everything looked good and our group often share the meals together. From what I can remember, there was a mixed bag but we were happy when we finished our meal. All the dishes were good but I think the menu has changed since that visit based on my most current visit. The service was great, one of the pluses for the restaurant. Will be back again after the last visit. HH too.

To start the night, my gfs split a bottle of Vihno Verde while I enjoyed the n/a Spritz. Now for the menu: The babaganoush was a delight, with a tasty and perfectly seasoned pita. A perfect mix of creamy and light flavors, with delicious chunks of grilled eggplant as a topper and fresh mustard seed. The crudo was light and refreshing, with blood oranges paired with a black garlic really balancing the dish. I took a spoon to finish the juice because it was that tasty. The cavateli was my personal favorite. Perfectly balanced with a delectable sauce and quaint & delightful mushrooms to complement the dish. I wish the portion of this dish was slightly larger but we did have 3 people splitting it. For dessert we ordered the basque cheesecake with a blueberry compote and the seasonal pavlova. The server called it a custard, but we agreed the one fell short and had too much whipped cream in between the seasonal peaches and the actual pavlova. The basque cheesecake was perfectly "burnt" and we really enjoyed the blueberry compote though we wished we had a bit more of that as well. Overall, I highly recommend for a date night or GNO. Will definitely be back for the next seasonal menu change, which also gets this place 5-stars :)

The flavors are simple yet outstanding, and the menu always feels thoughtfully put together. We ordered the prawns aglio e olio and heirloom tomatoes for starters, then we tried the pork chop--and it was easily one of the best we've ever had. Perfectly seasoned, incredibly tender, and just the right portion size. The wine selection was excellent, and we were happy to see that they've added whiskey to the menu. The only dish that didn't quite blow us away was the chocolate sourdough dessert, but we were curious and glad we gave it a try. What really completes the experience is the excellent service. This is probably the longest overdue review I have ever written, but at this point, not writing it…read morealmost feels selfish because I would very much like to always be able to get a table here. But alas, Carbon Angela's Kitchen deserves every flower, every reservation, every "you have to try this place" text thread, and every bit of love. This place has become one of my absolute favorite hidden gems in San Diego. Easily top five for me, and as someone who dines out a lot for a living, that is not a casual statement. There are places you like, places you recommend, and then there are places that start to feel woven into your actual life. Carbon Angela's Kitchen is that for me. Angela is truly the heart of this place. She has this way of making you feel like you are not just coming in for dinner, but being welcomed into something she deeply cares about. And Emanuele is absolutely part of that magic too. Together, they have built something that feels warm, generous, soulful, and so special. They feel like long-lost friends and family now, and I am honestly just so proud of them and all they are creating. The food is the kind that makes you want to order with the whole table in mind. The griglia mista is hands down one of the best investments you can make if you are dining with a group. It is the meat platter, it is the moment, and it is absolutely worth ordering. Four to five people can split it, especially if you are also doing appetizers, salad, wine, and a few extra things for the table. It is such a perfect nod to what Carbon was before Angela took over, when the space leaned more BBQ, but now it feels beautifully married with Angela's warmth, Italian influence, and the kind of hospitality that makes the whole meal feel like an experience. And please do not sleep on the rest of the menu. The short rib is fire. The arancino trio is always a yes. The eggplant croquette? Obsessed. The crespelle? So good. The Everything Salad is my favorite salad on the menu, and the street corn should never, under any circumstances, be skipped. I said what I said. The wine selection is top tier, the appetizers are memorable, and the whole place has that rare magic of feeling cozy, intentional, and completely unpretentious. You can come for a low-key dinner, a girls' night, a celebration, or one of those "we just need a really good meal and a really good glass of wine" kind of evenings. And the back patio? Perfect for an evening under twinkling lights. It is one of those spaces that just begs for a long table, good conversation, clinking glasses, and the kind of night that accidentally turns into a core memory. They also have catering menus available, which is very important information to keep in your back pocket if you are hosting anything soon. What Angela has built is honestly something to behold. One of the hardest-working restaurateurs doing the dang thing in a city like San Diego, and now opening Bedda across the way too? I am in awe and wonder watching it all unfold. It takes so much courage, grit, taste, excellence, and heart to build what they are building, and you can feel all of it in the room. Carbon Angela's Kitchen is a true labor of love, a hidden gem, and one of those places I will keep cheering for again and again. Go hungry. Order the griglia mista. Get the Everything Salad. Do not skip the street corn. Share Share Share, so you can try a little bit of everything and do a tried and true family style meal, you won't regret it.
