They are a great add to downtown Valatie. The inside is rustic and welcome. I enjoyed the Bavarian decor and conversation with the owners on their heritage. There were a dozen beers on tap. I would have liked my vanilla porter to be slightly more robust, but the taste was pleasant. Small amounts of snacks are on every table, as well as their WiFi information. You definitely need the WiFi there, because certain cell phone providers have zero coverage there. Community involvement here is high, they offer a number of events and participate in other local ones. Street parking is convenient. I saw customers getting pizzas delivered, so I assume you are welcome to support other local businesses by requesting their food delivered here. As I recall, I think their website even advertises them. They clearly provide enjoyment here all-around.

Service was a bit slow but they had several people dining in, so I get it. The food was the star though. Something about their breakfast sausage has me wanting to go back for more. The custard French toast was so good! My bf got the eggs Benedict and said the hollandaise sauce was definitely the winner there.

This wine bar has an…read moreinviting and cozy atmosphere with table seating and comfortable soft seating with decorative pillows along the front corner walls, seating up at the bar, fireplace, and decorative plates mounted on the walls. Eclectic upbeat music played in the background including light music from South America. They offer a wine list with sparkling, whites, and reds, selections from Spain, Italy, France, Portugal and Croatia. They also serve cocktails, and beer. The tapas menu looked interesting offering Brussel sprouts, tuna tartare, mushroom & squash toast, chicken liver mousse & garlic confit, just to name a few. I stopped by Isola late evening after driving all day to see the foliage. I sat up at the bar and was given a menu. For this posting, I stuck with food and got a glass of water. I picked out two small plates including the Sardine Toast ($15 plus tax) and Eggplant Caponata ($15 plus tax), which came out together in 10 minutes. Both plates were nicely presented. The Sardine Toast (2 pieces) served cold had sliced sardines with sundried tomatoes & whipped sweet ricotta on thin toast strips. The Eggplant Caponata served hot was comprised of chopped eggplant, tomato, peppers & pine nuts with a long slice of toasted buttery ciabatta bread. This was just enough food for a light meal. The check with Toast QR code was brought over which was $32.40 with tax and before tip. Overall, Isola seems like a great place for couples night out for wine and tapas. In my case, I needed some me time and I was able to sample some tasty plates.

The owner's love for the Italian islands shines through in the decor, ambiance, hospitable spirit of the staff and of course the food and wine selections. We tried almost everything on the menu - and I went back for a second ham and cheese croquette with a delightfully spicy pepper sauce. All of the food was perfectly prepared with creative and delicately balanced flavor combinations. My husband thought all the seafood dishes were fantastic and the chocolate torte for dessert paired with a bright sherry was amazing. The service was so upbeat and ontime, and the atmosphere, while cozy, quiet and intimate was also somehow bustling and we continually discussed dishes as they came out with the guests to either side. Highly recommend a side trip from anywhere to check this spot out!
