    Reifenberg Brewing

Reifenberg Brewing has a prime location in downtown Valatie, an easy drive for us from Albany. It's easily identified by their Bavarian flags and decor. I personally love the giant wooden barrel edge that they've put up on the wall behind the bar. The rest of the building is built out of cedar (I think?), which is pretty unique - and there are glass windows so that you can see back into the brewing area. They don't offer food, but they make it very clear that you can bring your own food in and they recommend supporting nearby Valatie businesses. We came on a Friday and it was really quiet, so I think people might be missing out on good beer. The guys behind the bar, who I think are also the owners, didn't talk to us much but were willing to give insight on their beers if asked. As expected, they focus mostly on classic German beer styles, along with some British styles. They also had a few New England IPAs on tap, but that's not really where Reifenberg shines. Their Pilsner, Scotch Ale, and Hefeweizen were all really top notch and I would certainly recommend visiting so you can try them!

We took advantage of the beautiful day and enjoyed the patio, it's a really nice space inside and out. The service was great from start to finish and felt very welcomed by the staff. Of course I opted for a flight, it is a brewery after all. I chose a selection of IPAs and enjoyed them all. The first time I came here was for a yelp event and we got to try all the burgers, they were amazing! My friend ordered a burger and it looked amazing, she enjoyed it. The fries were also house made and very well done, I snagged a few. I was craving wings and I had a feeling they would have great ones, and they did. They were perfectly tender and moist with a great crisp, the medium sauce was spot on, even the blue cheese was great. I was intrigued by the fried asparagus so I ordered that too, they were huge! The tempura batter was so light and crispy, the asparagus was cooked nicely inside and was still a bit crisp and the sauces were perfect, both went so good with the dish. These also reheated super well when I brought them home as left overs. This is a perfect place to stop when you're in Chatham. Beer, food and service is top notch.

Much smaller portions AND raised prices. You can do one or the other, not both. Service was mediocre and all three of us left hungry. Took over two hours just to get food and drinks to our table. I'm sad about it because it was amazing the first time. We brought a friend after hyping the place up and it was a total letdown.

A tale of 4 breweries…read more So we tried to visit the brewery (#1) across the street for a flight and some food. It closed at 4, then we were going to have a beer at Return (#2) which opened at 4. The first place closed early (before 3:30pm), so we had some time to check out another spot (#3) a bit of a drive away. (5 min). The other place seemed fine, but since my spouse said the 4pm spot was good, we went back. Second customers in after opening, and I asked if they had any food or flights. He very politely told me that they did not have flights or food (tonight, but they did have some bagged snacks) and told me another brewery (#4) had both those things a short distance away (5-10 min/a few blocks). After chatting with the spouse (she and 3 kids had entered), we decided to stay. (Also, as a fun side-note, #4 is the one spouse thought she was taking us to.) We shared half a pilsner (Polished), half a gose (Speed Dial), and half an IPA (Westwhere). The Pilsner ended up being our 3rd favorite, but they were all tasty. We are not big drinkers, so we felt the 1.5 beers each! And since we were staying, we picked up a mandarin soda for the kids to share (special treat) and we all munched on a bit of popcorn, beef jerky, and Zapp's chips. It ended up being a great time! Very affordable, low-key, solid tunes, and super kid friendly. It's a big space, so noisy children are not too noticeable. Also, the man running the bar, again, was super cool. Highly recommend!

Eric is the brew master and was working this day serving these fabulous beers that are worth a stop to this place. They also have another location down the road at their farm. That would be cool to visit another time. This place and the bathrooms are super clean, bright. There is plenty of seating to allow you to spread out. Each table has games so if you just want to enjoy a beer and play games you can. I played the BeerIQ game and I learned a few things about beer and now I want to buy the game for home. Beer: I had a sample of brown ale and the imperial stout. Both were incredible. It is hard to get a good brown ale and Eric nailed it! I ordered a brown ale since I was driving and the alcohol content was lower. I tasted the Imperial stout and wow delicious. One of the regulars was raving about the imperial stout and he was so right! Some days they offer food, but we came on Saturday where the kitchen was closed. Eric was kind enough to allow us to get outside food so we could continue to enjoy his brews. Everyone here is friendly. Highly recommend to come. Even if you are not near by, these brews are worth the drive.
