I was busy and didn't answer and he left a message explaining that he was sorry and that the people he had been talking to were folks he hadn't seen since high school and he wanted to catch up to them. He said that if I were to reschedule, he'd make sure to see me right away. I do appreciate the call and the apology. But I did not call back to try to get another appointment with him. If I had to guess, he only called because his assistant urged him to since she seemed to understand how rude he had been when she gave me back my paperwork and apologized for him. I didn't put this in my initial review because I didn't want to make this mostly about my race, but I think that when he looked out at the waiting area and saw me, a young black woman, my race was a factor in his decision to keep talking to the old high school friends standing at his office door. Do I have proof of this? No. It's a gut feeling and I'm going to go with it in relation to other overtly racist experiences I've had in MA and across the US throughout my entire life.

Towne Eye / Suburban Optical could be the place for you if you have unlimited time that you're…read morewilling to trade for quality lenses. I've gone there twice for the convenient location. Both times I have been very happy with the quality of the optical work (I'm talking how the lenses correct my vision, not frame styling). Things there just seem to take longer. Another shop I tried did not do such high quality lens work. Lenses here were just better for my eyes. The gory details: First off, the hours are keyed to an old-fashioned doctor's schedule -- you know, closed on Wednesdays. Open during the hours you work, except Thursday night. Let me throw in a positive -- the staff have always been super friendly. They seem genuinely happy to see each customer. The doctor enjoys talking about his craft -- for instance did you know why they use a red/green brightness/contrast test at the end of distance vision correction? Prismatics! Cool! Back to the downers: they are not very communicative. If your lenses are taking twice as long as expected, expect to hear nothing. When lenses come in, maybe you will get a call, but certainly not the same day. If you call and leave a message on the answering machine, they will get it and start work, but won't call to confirm. Sadness: I brought my Google Glass to the shop to get lenses fitted -- the super cool new version that takes prescription lenses in a titanium frame. Long story short, about two months later I am still not wearing them. They had to send to a special lab to make the lenses. OK, its custom. Lab did not use the right glass, but no one noticed. Back to the lab. New lenses don't fit the frames. Back to the lab. Still waiting... First world problems, I guess.

The Doctor has a depth of knowledge and spends his time making sure you understand everything. I needed new glasses so I went to Lenscrafters like usual, but I noticed that Visionworks had moved in right upstairs from the Lenscrafters store. I didn't have a prescription so I needed an exam too. The people at LensCrafters just straight up ignored me! I lingered around at the desk for about 5 minutes and finally someone from the back came out and said "hey what's up?" They were nice enough but not very professional. I wanted to get glasses that day but they didn't have a doctor in so I was kind of stuck. I decided to go upstairs and see if Visionworks had a doctor that could see me. As soon as I walked in I was welcomed with a "Welcome to Visionworks how can we help you?" The girl at the desk listened to what I needed and said they did have a doctor and I could be seen within 30 minutes! I had my exam (pretty standard exam) and when I came out two people were waiting to help me with picking out frames. We tried on like a million of them, and found two that I liked. They have a BOGO so I got one pair free, and the price was about what I pay for one pair at LensCrafters! So an hour later I came back and both of my glasses were ready for me, they fit them to my face and made sure they were straight (I have crooked ears) I really love the glasses I got here, haven't had any problems with them and I get compliments all the time. I will not be going back to LensCrafters just so I can get Ray-Bans, it's just not worth the money you have to spend and now I don't look like everybody else which is nice. I definitely recommend this shop mostly because of the good prices and the people who work there actually want to help you with everything instead of ignoring you and hoping you go away.

In May 2026, I purchased a new pair of progressive, transition, and scratch-resistant lenses using my VSP coverage. Despite paying over $200 out-of-pocket--significantly more than the $40 I paid for the exact same lens options the previous year--I recently discovered three scratches in the middle of my lens. When I returned to the store to ask about having the damaged lenses repaired or replaced, I was informed that I could not be helped because I had not purchased a warranty. At no point during my transaction in May, or during my previous visit in 2025, was a warranty ever offered or mentioned to me. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, an employee dismissed my concern by claiming that "everyone says that." It is unacceptable to be blamed for not purchasing coverage that was never offered. As a returning customer, I am extremely disappointed with both the lack of transparency during the sales process and the unprofessional response from your staff when I sought a resolution. I am requesting that Visionworks review this situation and honor a lens replacement for my damaged glasses. I look forward to hearing from you regarding how this matter will be resolved. Sincerely, Leanne
