The broth was good, the noodles were good, and the service was friendly and attentive. We also really enjoyed the boba tea. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the meat. Two of us ordered the cut that was supposed to be the most tender, and before ordering, we actually asked our waiter to confirm that we were choosing the most tender option. He assured us that we were. Unfortunately, the meat in both bowls was quite tough. This seems to be a recurring issue I've noticed with pho in this area. Compared with pho I've had in other places, the meat here tends to be cut much thicker and isn't nearly as tender. Maybe it's just a Colorado thing, but it's definitely something I wish local pho restaurants would improve. Thinly sliced, tender meat makes such a difference in a good bowl of pho. So, would we go back to Boulder Pho & Boba Tea? Probably not specifically for the pho. The broth and noodles were good, but the meat really took away from the experience for us. Would we go back for the boba tea? Absolutely. That was a definite highlight.

A Hidden Gem in Plain Sight…read more Dined-in, and this place truly feels like a hidden gem. This was my third visit, and I'm already planning my next. The staff are incredibly friendly, and you can tell it's a family-owned and operated spot. It's simple and unpretentious--no pretenses, just good food. The flavors are bold and comforting. I ordered two dishes: braised beef brisket and beef stew with wontons. The braised beef was the standout for me--sweet and savory in perfect balance, with meat that melted in your mouth. The beef stew with wontons was delicious as well; the beef was tender, and the broth was clean, rich, and refreshing--great comfort food for a cold Colorado day, or any day. My wife tried the chicken pho. The broth was smooth and revitalizing, and the chicken meat seemed freshly hand-pulled. She enjoyed it immensely. If you're looking for solid, flavorful food in a welcoming, no-frills setting, this place is hard to beat.

It was covered in sweet and sour sauce which is usually not the case when I've ordered the same option at other restaurants. It's usually a brown sauce. However, my friend ordered something with brown sauce and it tasted a bit off. When asked what the sauce was, the server responded "Brown sauce" and didn't elaborate in any further which was more hilarious than anything. The server was kind, but beyond that, there is really nothing special here to China 88. I think there are better Chinese restaurant options in Longmont.
