I can't believe that I hadn't written this review yet! If you're in the central business district and in need of some bomb Vietnamese food, Saigon Subs and Rolls is your place. You'll find Saigon Rolls on 4th street behind the Hyatt Regency. If you're around Monday-Friday, you'll find that this place has a big lunch crowd and limited seating. If you're hoping to catch a seat, I would recommend arriving closer to 11:30 or waiting until after the lunch rush. The noodle bowls and pho are both great choices. I'm sure the rice dishes and banh mi are good too, I just haven't dabbled yet. The pho isn't the best I've had, but it's pretty close and makes for a solid choice any day. The staff is always super friendly and the kitchen has always run smoothly/quickly. Don't expect a fancy-pants restaurant, but if you're in the mood for good pho/Vietnamese, definitely give this place a shot. read more

Pho is a new food I've been wanting to try for sometime. Definitely didn't know what to expect but this little place has a good pho, in my "first time pho-r" opinion. Saigon does have seating, some with a window view of the street that's a great place to stop and eat lunch or get food to go. Although the menu is not extensive, if you're in the mood for pho or a sushi roll they have you covered. I had the chicken pho to go. What I loved most is the way they packaged my food. The broth was separate from the noodle and the onions were packaged separately as well. Not only does this ensure my noodles don't get soggy but I'm also able to add as many noodles/onions as I would like. Great touch! read more

Omg Bánh Mi. This was an awesome lunchtime choice! I got the pork banh mi and a mango boba tea. So so good! All the flavors were on point and everything tasted so fresh and delicious, from the perfect texture of the roll to the crisp pickled vegetables and fresh aromatic cilantro. The tea was a refreshing way to finish the meal. My only (tiny) issue was that the mango powder was clumpy at the bottom of the drink, but I'll definitely be ordering again! Pretty good. Clean and efficient with lots of natural light. The food was out in a few minutes. Plenty of seating for 1 or 2. Bubble teas are all powder and no blended option :'(. Bahn mi roll was hot and fresh with plenty of yummy pickled veggies! The pork on it was a bit sweeter than I expected, but still pretty good. The pate had a good taste. The fried pork & shrimp spring rolls were kind of flat and more crunchy than crispy, but still okay (although I wouldn't have been able to guess what meat was inside). The sauce served with them looked like fish sauce, but was sweet, which seemed strange. Overall not the best Vietnamese food I've ever had, but decent and I think it makes a good spot for lunch because they are fast. I'd be curious to taste their pho. Stopped in for lunch and one of the better Vietnamese options in the city. It's usually crowded around noon so I had a late lunch and figured it would be best. I ordered the chicken noodle bowl and it was excellent. Food came out quick and it was everything I had hoped. Customer service was also great and liked that the water was self serve. read more

I was in Cincinnati for a very short time, and was craving for something Asian. This place was a short walk from the hotel so I decided to give it a try. First of all, the review reflects only what I ordered and based on what I observed Now, I didn't order pho as I saw that 10 out of 15 people who were dining there had pho, and the pho bowl looked ok, wasn't "alluring" enough for me. I bet it was good though seeing that it was that popular So I went and ordered bun with pork. The pork for this dish originally should be charbroiled, but understanding the model of the business as well as the location, I can see that this might not be doable to charcoal broil. However, the meat should still be broiled somehow though. An oven would do. The seasoning for the pork was great, lacking that charred taste was disappointing but it's ok. However, these cha gio...what the... I'm appreciative of the fact that the restaurant wants to promote Vietnamese food in Cincinnati but this cha gio does Viet food no justice. It tasted like it was store-bought, at an American market, not an Asian one. Our ancestors must be rolling over in their graves. Nuoc mam (fish sauce) was ok. A bit on a sweeter side, but thick and went well with the bun thit heo so that's also a-ok Employees were friendly and fast. Space is open and welcoming. Not much to the decor but it's a place for a quick lunch for a lot of these office employees, so I'm sure it wasn't priority, which is quite alright. I hope they can start investing in an oven and broil their meat soon. Next time I'm in town, I'll give them a visit and try out their pho and their banh mi. Hands down my favorite lunch spot in the city. The menu is simple, the owners are great, and the food is consistently good whether you dine in or choose carry out. I would highly recommend arriving around the 11:30/11:45 am if you're planning on dining in or in a rush. They get busy fast and fill up quick, but if you've ever had their food you know why! Their chicken pho is spectacular and comes in a medium sized bowl, it's a lot of soup and a lot of noodles, but it's worth every bite. My next favorite dish is a chicken bahn mi roll with extra pickled veggies. Saigon does not skimp on the toppings or the flavor. Pro tip: don't forget to eat the little nuggets of chicken and butter that fall off of your sandwich. The tofu is fried and had a roasted sweet potato flavor from the sauce. A little too sweet for my liking. The egg rolls in the bowl are light. Spring rolls were spot on, pho was pretty good but I feel like they overcompensated for less beer essence by adding more spices. I actually liked the spices so it was fine. We got a to go order and they gave us an impressive amount of sprouts. I almost never get enough at most pho restaurants but here I didn't even have to ask for extra and they delivered. Friendly approachable service and nice low key environment. If I had to be picky, and I'm pretty picky when it comes to my pho, is a) ensure all take out orders get sauces (we had to remind the servers to give us some) and this is such a critical and standard addition to the pho and b) more meat please! That said the milk tea was not great, super sweet so I'd suggest getting half sugar addition and the tapioca balls seemed overcooked. Overall, a great addition to the neighborhood. We came here off a recommendation from a friend and I can see what the hype is about. If you are craving a banh mi sandwich or a quick bite be sure to get one of these. They may be a bit on the pricier side when it comes to banh mi sandwiches but they really pack on the fillings. Homemade mayo, homemade pate, meat of your choice or tofu nicely cooked and all the typical banh mi additions (pickled carrots and daikon, jalapeno, cilantro) make this one of the best sandwiches I've had in Cincinnati. I also liked that the menu is simple. They have a small menu and typically only open for lunch but I appreciate when a place can focus more on just a few options than having a giant smorgasbord where it might be hard to decide or know what a place does well. Saigon Subs has banh mi sandwiches, pho, bun (vermicelli noodle dish), a few apps and even bubble tea. Since venturing here for the first time and getting banh mi, I've been back with several times. Each time - I've ordered the pho and maybe spring rolls and my beloved boba tea. A bowl of pho is pretty large. It comes with plenty of pho noodles, gratuitous broth, sliced beef, bo vien (Vietnamese meatballs) and the usual plate of garnishes (lime, bean sprouts, cilantro, mint and jalapenos). It was absolutely delicious and tasted just like home. It was even approved by my mom - who has spent her life perfecting her own mother's pho's recipe! Beware, the lunch time rush is REAL. It's not the biggest restaurant so if you have a bigger group (4 or more) - you should try to come early. Looking for a solo lunch spot? The service was a bit slow when we went, but the food was good, and the price was right. I would visit again to get myself another bowl of tasty beef pho. I am quite a pho fan. The broth here was rich in flavor, but still light enough that I could finish up my bowl. It was served with ample slices of beef and meatballs, along with a plate full of herbs and bean sprouts. So far the best Pho I've found in the Downtown area. Service is good and the pho is flavorful. My only complaint is that they don't offer the other cuts you can get at traditional Vietnamese restaurants. Those being the tripe and tendon pieces that I'm accustomed to. If that were to happen this would be my go to spot no question. But my search for that elusive bowl of pho in Cincinnati continues... And I was not disappointed with Saigon. They have a concise menu, the basics, with your favorites--banh mi, spring rolls, bun, pho. My friend who came with me (and vegetarian) and had never had Vietnamese food before was impressed by the freshness of our lunch. She also got their Vietnamese iced coffee. They also sold bubble tea.
