I have been on a viet food kick for the past week. With my recent move from Dallas to Cincy, I have been on a search for my viet fix. So far I tried a few so I tried pho 96. I ordered the shrimp spring roll vermicelli, banh mi (pork sandwich) and the viet rice wrapper roll (Gỏi Cuốn) - to go. Here are the pros and cons. The pros. Great amount of food. The quantity was really good compared to other viet locations in the West Chester Ohio area. Actually what I would expect for $15 and some change for the vermicelli noodle bowl ( I still remember when this entree a long time ago was less than $10 but I digress). Likewise the banh mi had a decent amount of pork and a plastic ziplock with carrots and other veggies for sandwich (Around $8). So good amount of food. The cons. The taste seemed diluted across all the items from the shrimp in the vermicelli to the fish sauce and hoisin sauce for spring rolls. This was not the case with banh mi although the pork seemed too sweet and sauce had a thick corn starch feel. The fried spring roll in my vermicelli noodle dish did taste like the deep fryer oil had not been changed in awhile. That being said, I think if the vermicelli noodle dish had a stronger fish sauce, sauce then it would have been more flavorful but maybe that is a regional thing for owner. It was alot of food but finished with a bloated feeling. Kinda like when you eat at a Chinese buffet and you know some weird additives were added to food to create an unnatural full sensation. First time and the vibes are super chill. This isn't your super fancy, authentic atmosphere, but it's still great for some lunch. as you walk up, the menu is along the wall, it has pictures which helped a lot a. The cashier was helpful as well. I went with the well done flank, and ended up adding a lot of the siracha and other spices, lil soy sauce, add the basil and roots all those goodies. Really quick service, very tasty as well. The plastic or metal chopsticks they give you is a little odd and harder to use than the normal ones most places have in my opinion but I'm always down to tackle a challenge. Gf got some broth and noodles, and when she needed to go cup, they brought out a big XL slurpie looking cup and we dumped the soup in there lol. I thought that was a unique touch. Disclosure.. I am from Southern California so the Vietnamese community and accessibility to all things Vietnamese are quite convenient.. so my expectations are probably different from most. Few things that bothered me that aren't food related.. the way I had to order lol... I know it's weird.. but I'm used to a server taking my order vs having to stand in line like a fast food place. My wife and I tried this place for lunch recently and had a wonderful experience. The restaurant is cafe style where you order at the counter and take a number to a seat of your choosing. Ambience allured to a modern diner with pictures on the wall of various pho ingredients and Vietnamese decoration. I got the meat lovers pho combo which came with an egg roll and drink and she got the beef pho with a fountain drink as well. Fountain selection was decent but the meal was phenomenal. Of course any pho isn't great unless the broth is spot on and of course they made a deep, rich and flavorful broth. Accompanying were the general topping you get like jalapeño slices, bean sprouts, lime wedges and basil leaves. There wasn't any cilantro which surprised me but I assumed the basil made up for that. On the table were some sauces like chili oil, hoisin sauce and soy. The meats in the broth were cooked to masterfully and tender as ever and the rice noodles were perfect consistency. The egg roll almost stole the show of the meal by being the best egg roll I've ever had. Extremely tasty and the crispiest, flakiest pastry roll that just made me want to order 100 more. Good pho, in my opinion, is pretty easy to find but great pho, such as this, is somewhat rare. I'm so happy we found this establishment and the staff were very friendly and helpful. This place was pretty alright. I would agree the veggies to add were a little on the wilted side. Overall it was good. The prices are right. I got some egg rolls, papaya salad with dried beef, and a round eye steak and meatball phó. I like the way a lot of the restaurants here do shrimp fried with the pork in the eggrolls. The papaya salad was good. Never had it with dried beef before. Not too bad. The pho broth was good. A nice bone broth. I liked that they had lots of phó seasoning available. My bff & I decided to try this place. She's never had Vietnamese food before so we asked for the cashier's recommendation. I ordered the eye round, flank & brisket noodle bowl along with an order of egg rolls (2). My bff ordered the chicken noodle soup bowl. We both loved our noodle bowls. I shared my egg rolls with my bff & she liked them, despite them containing shrimp (which she doesn't like). I stopped by for a carry-out order before work yesterday. I've only had Pho one other time so I might not have a strong frame of reference but I really enjoyed the #11 Eye Round and Well Done Flank meal I got. The broth came in a large container and all of the components of the Pho came on the side so it was an 'assemble' yourself kind of situation. Once 'assembled' the flavors were out of this world. In addition to my noodles I got 2 egg rolls. The sauce for the egg rolls had a great sweet/spicy combo that I won't soon forget. It was a great meal that felt fresh and light. I will say this place is probably better enjoyed as a dine in experience due to the difficulty of transporting piping hot broth. This isn't all that authentic, but it's better than that Panda Express shit. I had the vegetarian pho. It's about $10 for a humongous bowl. This came with basil leaves and bean sprouts. It's put on top of the soup before you eat. They have instructions how to eat it above the tables. Other things on the menu include bubble tea, which all look pretty good. Pho 96 may not be the BEST pho you've ever had..but they are definitely good authentic restaurant. The broth can be alittle bland if you are used to some other Pho joints.. but they give you everything on the table(soy, fish oil, red pepper oil, sriracha) to take it to the next level with the garnishes (bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeño, and lime). You really can mix up a delicious tasting pho. Compared to like a basil 1791 it's way better. Pho kimmy is about the same quality in my opinion. Although my go-to is saigon noodle bar, keeping up with their goofy schedule and small shack of a restaurant is a pain. Pho 96 portions are good, like most joints (and most complaints) the meat portion isn't anything great.. but you get plenty of broth and noodles. My son suggested coming here for lunch and I was not disappointed. I ordered something off the top row of Soups, sadly I don't remember which one, but it was very good. I will try some of the rice based food next time. I really did enjoy the soup as I always enjoy a good soup. Of course I am a hot coffee or hot tea person year round. The meat in the soup was very tender (I wish it had came with more meat than was offered in the bowl. So maybe I need to order double meat? I presume this is possible. When coming back to this location I have no idea it even existed When you walk in you have to go around and order first they give you a number and then you can sit down When you pay for the food, if you do it in card the no tip is covered up so you have to pay a tip between 15% and 25% there is also a custom tip I normally try tip in cash so that was a little much but at least I had more cash in my pocket? I ended ordering the #20 (shrimp and scallops) with a bubble tea since they coke machine was out The shrimp were rather big but the scallops were kind of small compared to other places I have been. I have also opted out of the chicken or beef broth and I get the veggie instead It was an interesting taste at first but it wasn't too bad (I'm just kind of picky when it comes to broth) They did however give me a TON of bean sprouts which I absolutely love. Having traveled and eaten at many Vietnamese restaurants I can say they're the best place to eat in Cincinnati for food and value. I like the pho here but I do agree with other reviews that they could give you more meat. Their broth is good considering they have to appeal to the masses BUT there are other condiments provided to customize the broth to your liking. The Spring and Egg rolls are larger compared to any other Viet restaurant I have been to and the cheapest. The Taste is also one of the best I've had and being of East Asian descent, that says a lot. HIGHLY recommend these two. The peanut sauce that comes with the Spring roll is also superbly made. My other go-to dish here is the basil fried rice with pork. It comes with chunks of vegetables and surprisingly a lot of meat. This dish comes with other meat choices as well, customize to your liking. They also have kids portions as well. You could also go for the Gigantic Pho bowl if you are a Pho eating pro. We always get #11 which is the beef and pork brisket Pho with an order of spring rolls which is 2 spring rolls in an order. We also order chicken pho as well on occasion. This location has dine in or carry out. One of our favorite places to eat at when it comes to authentic PHO and Vietnamese cuisines. Many PHO places do not prepare their dishes as fresh and robust as this location. It is pretty consistent every time we visit here. All the PHOs come with a wide selection of bean sprouts, basil leaves, limes, and jalepenos to accentuate your soups. These dishes will not disappoint what so ever. At the table are additional sauces such as siracha and plum sauce to add even more delightful flavors to your entrees. The PHO selections are super fresh, full of flavors and filling to each and every appetite. This place is pretty consistent for brunch, lunch, and dinner. They also have the best tapioca smoothies as well. The wait staff are super friendly and effective. Initially tried Pho 96 for the Pho. I keep returning for the Vietnamese Banh Mi. The restaurant is casual but with traditional flavors. You enter and order from the counter. There are large menu displays with the pictures and combos. I enjoy and recommend the Nanh Mi & spring roll combo that also comes with a drink. read more

328. I put more thought into 1-star reviews because I hate writing them. There was a decent line but minimal wait time. Ordered the pho gà. When the receipt came out, I had difficulty tearing it. The cashier said to tear it upwards. Tried that, but more paper came out and the lid opened. That's when she scoffed at me. Kind of embarrassing given that there was a line and it was quite audible. Girl, all you had to do was help tear the receipt and close the lid. Not expecting you to suck up, but that reaction was very unprofessional. Especially when I tipped you only 10 seconds ago. The food took some time, which I understand when there's a lot of people. When it finally arrived, our server didn't get the bean sprouts out beforehand. She did go back into the kitchen to grab a plate, but that took forever so we weren't able to dig in for a while. By then, I was very frustrated. The food was disappointing and couldn't save our dining experience. Interestingly, there was another incident that occurred when we were dining here. Not sure what that was about, but if a customer is yelling across the restaurant, that's not a good sign. Still a bit shocked that it went downhill at the register before the food even came out. Great value for your buck (especially the combo - you get a spring roll/eggroll and a drink)! Most of the time, I leave with a to-go box, because I can't finish my food. Their pho is good, but I don't recommend the bubble milk tea here (sugary and watered down). They do bring the food out to you, but other than that service is pretty non-existence (which I don't mind). We've ate here plenty of times however this time was different, I'm not sure if it was because it was a busy Thursday evening or the stuff was just trying to bust out the dishes as fast as they could. While my husband ordered the beef pho, I got chicken. When our pho came to us, it was luke-warm and the noodles were still stuck together from their original uncooked form. The noodles & temperature of the soup didn't bother us as much as the taste of the meats in the soup. First- the soup barley had any meat at all (see attached picture) and the meat that was there had so much fat on it. Second- the meat tasted like it had been sitting out for a while & had a weird smell. We couldn't even eat it, the taste ruined the dish. This is a great place for pho and banh-mi. You order at the counter and they bring your meal to you freshly cooked. During our last visit, I got the meat lovers Pho, regular size. Delicious! Make sure you ask for added cilantro and Jalapeños with lime for taste. The broth is outstanding and it comes with a wide variety of meats. My wife got the chicken pho, which was quite good as well, although I preferred the meat lovers. For the banh-mi (which is a Vietnamese sandwich), get the pork sandwiches. Pho96 is really gettin' into it. Their broth is on target, their summer rolls are great, and every time I go in they have new items on the menu. The wait staff has changed and they've added some fresh faces and after so many months, they have only gotten better. They offered a kumquat juice, which is incredibly unique for the Midwest and is quite delectable! I really can't add much more to my review because you've just gotta make your way out here. Yes, its far, but seriously its worth it. They've even got an eating challenge for a chance to win $150 to use at the restaurant or lose $100 if you can't beat your competitor. I LOVE THIS PLACE. My favorite pho place in cincinnati. I probably eat here at least once every 2 weeks. Maybe once a week. What I love: The perfect size (small for $7.95), I can sub for the meat that I like (tendon, flank and meatball), they steam my beansprouts so my broth stays hot, broth is pretty consistent in flavors, plenty of parking, etc. Non-pho: I order the ban xeo (shrimp only) from time to time and it's decent for the city; I prefer mine with lots of veggies though (like how California serves them). The ban beo (without pork skin) is pretty decent; I like mine with a bit of siracha combined with the fish oil. Banh mi is definitely not a favorite.
