Saigon garden never misses a beat. The parking is a breeze, and the service is always very speedy. Their menu has a lot of variety and the few times I've been, everything has been delicious and as described. The pho was top tier, as are all of their appetizers. The restaurant never looks that busy, but they clearly get enough business to stay around, THANKFULLY! Great place, yummy food, and nice employees!

It was way better than we had expected! The broth was flavourful and the right amount of oily, and the crispy noodle sauce was the right balance between sweet and salty! It was sad to see that we were the only ones there at that time, but it also meant it was nice and quiet. If I'm being perfectly honest I actually prefer this place than to the other pho places around here. The people running it were super nice and the service was fast (again, probably because we were the only ones tho). Definitely a place we will continue to visit in the future so we can try all the other wonderful foods!

I think it is very odd to come into a family oriented authentic, immigrant run restaurant and expect American type service as there is a huge culture difference. Whenever you need something, just flag the waitress down and they get you what you are asking for promptly. It's just the norm and not a big deal since they are quick to bring you what you need. I have been a regular here since it first opened and come back every time I am in the area for supplies. Context for this place is important. In comparison to other restaurants around here, this place is great! The food is flavorful and herbaceous. The vegetables are always fresh and I have been to other restaurants in the surrounding area that were hit or miss with that. The food is filling and there is always a ton of meat. I never leave hungry and I honestly crave the bun bo hue regularly. There are always other Vietnamese people in the restaurant who are enjoying the food as well which tells me that this is THE VIET spot. The place isn't the most updated but I come here for the food. It is also always peaceful when I come in here and I've never heard anyone being too obnoxious or loud. I will always respect the owner and this restaurant especially after I brought my white mother in law in here. She struggles to drink tap water because of her health and I asked for an alternative to which he replied that he didn't offer it in his restaurant. He went to the back to grab my food and came back with something for her. He didn't charge me for it and told me to take care of her. I will always support this business for as long as it is open plus the food is as authentic as you can get in Grand Rapids and the owner is kind. Unlike other places, this place doesn't use sugar as a filler and the food is umami the way it should be.

My go to place when I'm craving a hot bowl of viet soup. I like the bun bo hue here, though I prefer it with more shrimp paste and spice. The vermicelli bowl is fine; hard to go wrong with that. The egg rolls here are great. I don't care for the sweet chili sauce, but it's great with fish sauce (the kind served with vermicelli). Don't be shy to call attention to the server if you need anything. Asian restaurants tend to operate that way. They don't check on you; you just wave them over when you need something.

The service and quick and polite. The pho brother tasted like home and really perfect for a cold day in Michigan. The large pho was $11.00, but it was a HUUUGE portion!!!! the gernerous portion and taste made it really worth it. I got a grilled pork rice plate with meat pie and an egg, but there wasn't a lot of meat to be honest. Usually rice plates have a lot of meat to balance out the rice. I also wanted to get a banh mi to-go, but the worker said they haven't had banh-mis for some time until they can find someone to make them. I would come here again just for the pho though!

I thought I had hit all of the pho spots in GR until a friend of mine told me about Saigon Garden. He wouldn't stop talking about how good the pho and House Fried Rice was so I had to stop by! The broth is the richest I've had in GR. The portion is perfect and the amount of cilantro is just right. The noodles were a /little/ too soft for me but nonetheless a delicious bowl of pho! Perfect for the cold weather. The House Fried Rice is flavorful as well. I was hoping to get a banh mi but they didn't have any bread when I was there. Service was friendly and quick. Plenty of parking available!

    Beef fried rice. "Meh."

It was OK. One of the better pho places we've been to, but nothing amazing. Worth going to if you need pho and don't want to risk being too disappointed. Fried rice was pretty disappointing, especially for the price. It was rice with just a bit of egg (tiny bits of egg, not large enough to ever notice) and some pretty good beef mixed in. It was fine, but really not worth paying an entree price for. Go to a Chinese restaurant if that's what you're looking for.

I would say this place has the most traditional tasting pho broth vs other places right in town. It's right up there with Pho 99. The coriander takes it up one. Only reason this isn't my go to is the service (which is inconsistent) and the broth. It's hit or miss. If they can figure out their consistency. This may be the best pho spot in town.

Big place, but only 2 tables occupied including us. Food was good - a little too salty as all restaurants tend to do. No frills.

TERRIBLE REVIEWS, GREAT RESTAURANT!!!…read more We do not deserve this place. I have seen such stupid 1 star reviews driving this place down so I made this. People claiming the food was undercooked when the menu item they ordered as takeout comes raw with hot broth. Whoever made that deserves to eat McDonald's and crappy, frozen, store-bought crab rangoons. People complaining of service when arriving unannounced with a party of 12 when the restaurant is on off season hours. I love this restaurant. It has great pho that doesn't have the standard dishwater taste of many small Asian places around GR. The restaurant is often understaffed because it's a small family restaurant. They do a great job but it's usually one person acting as waiter and host. We have called with parties of over 10 and been turned away but never had the gaul to arrive with one. Had some bad experiences with service years ago but recently it's been very good. Kong the host is fast and good at steering people to good menu options. Pictured below is raw beef and beef ball we ordered as takeout and cooked properly because we aren't morons. Excellent food. Would frequent this place if you know good pho from bad.

I came in around 5:30 to pick up some banh mi for dinner. I think bc of the time, the bread must have been stale from when they baked it in the morning... to give you an idea, I didn't have them toast it, and when I ate it in the car on the drive home, it was crumbly, there were big pieces of crumbs everywhere. The meat portion was also little in comparison to the baguette. I also got a few snacks from the fridge: the coconut jelly, flan, and yogurt. The coconut jelly was bad, the white part (coconut milk gelatin) had gone sour. The clear part was still good - which I took a chance at bc it was $5... The flan did not taste fresh, the texture was that of a yogurt that had solidified and kind of liquidy... The yogurt was actually good, probably bc yogurt can't go bad... I also got the banh cuon and com chay, both of those were fortunately good. However the com chay container was stapled shut on multiple sides which made it a pain to open with the risk of the staples also landing in the com chay. Overall, I get that Vietnamese food might be scarce in the GR area, but quality was really lacking and if you had not had banh mi in a major metro area, you wouldn't know any better... I didn't come back and probably won't...

The bánh mì are still my favorite in town, with perfectly crispy yet soft bread, fresh veggies and herbs, and delicious meat. The ambiance is pretty typical of any Thai restaurant. Tastefully decorated, not cluttered or tacky at all. The menu was a bit lengthy, but it was nicely laid out and easy to read. The prices are pretty comparable with other Thai restaurants. Our waiter, I believe, was also the owner of the restaurant, a very pleasant gentleman. He was knowledgable about the menu and offered a spice range of 1 (no spice) to 10 (extremely spicy), and anywhere in between. My son ordered the Drunk Mama dish, my husband ordered the Mongolian dish, and after asking if there was soy in it (and mentioning I had a soy allergy), I ordered the Vegetable dish. The waiter assured me they could make it without soy. It was literally only a few minutes when the dishes started coming to the table, piping hot. I had only taken about 2 bites when the waiter came over to the table, took one look at my dish and said, "Oh, let me remake that for you. I can tell this has soy in it." He whisked it away immediately. A few minutes later, I was given a newly prepared dish, without soy, and was told there would be no charge for dinner. I also received many apologies for the mixup. This is one place that genuinely cares about their customers. My vegetable dish was full of tasty, very fresh vegetables, cooked to perfection. All 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The spice levels were perfect, the presentation was nice, and the taste was outstanding. We love Thai food and have tried a lot of them, but this one is now at the top of our list. We live on the south end of Grand Rapids, but we will definitely be back! I'm looking forward to trying many of the other dishes listed on the menu. I highly recommend you try Jasmine Thai too.
