Lowell doesn't have a ton of great options for good food, but I really enjoy Mynt Fusion. They also have a great selection of dishes that can be made vegetarian or vegan. My wife and I got the Peanut Laksa noodles which were great. Slightly spicy peanut sauce and the portions are pretty large. They also had some bomb cookies on the counter that we picked up supporting a women's ministry charity. The gentleman at the counter was super nice and made a nice accommodation for a side dish for our 1 year old son. This is probably my least favorite Thai restaurant in the greater GR area. I worked in Thai restaurants for 4 years, so i know Thai food. This is not authentic. It's okay as far as Americanized Asian food goes. Now let's delve into service/experience: My husband, son, and I came in for lunch. Nobody was in the restaurant. Quiet and clean, fine. So a young man comes out from the back doesn't greet us, just asks "how many? Booth or table" very unenthusiastically. We order our food, I order a side of chow mein for my toddler and I ordered Massaman curry (which is supposed to have potatoes, baby corn, bamboo shoot, etc) and the waiter brought me out cashew & almond. And it looked like it was slapped on the plate with NO love. Their definition of chow mein is crispy wontons in a tiny bowl. Chow mein are moist NOODLES (similar to lo mein). If the menu doesn't include descriptions or pictures, sell the correct items. Maybe their trying to cut corners and be cheap? Don't know. But dried wontons for $3... nah. And when we mentioned it to the waiter he didn't seem to concerned or want to appease us, attitude kinda just like "it is what it is. Whatever you ordered it." Which is NEVER the attitude to have in customer service. You should always want satisfied and returning customers! I'll never ever go back! My husband enjoyed his food, which is great, but I just put my incorrect food in a box to go. The only positive review i have about the food is it was spicy enough. Fried rice was just brown rice with soy sauce in it, no peas carrots or onions. Boring, basic, not really worth it. If you want good Thai food just make the journey to Grand Rapids. A nice surprise in Lowell. Asian menu. Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Korean choices. The decor is surprisingly nice and modern. Light jazz playing in background. It was quiet and relaxing. The food is very good and reasonably priced. Service was spotty. We were forgotten (without having ordered yet) for about 15 minutes. To her credit, our server did apologize and gave decent service after that. Overall, there is a tendency to sweeten things a bit much. We ordered steamed gyoza, which were excellent, but the sauce was a bit too sweet we felt. I have a one piece shrimp sashimi, which was good. Won ton soup was very good with a great broth. Hot and sour soup was fine but could have been a more sour in our estimation. Hubby had yellow curry, which he ordered hot. It was perfectly to his liking. I had chicken pad thai. We stated with crab rangoon which was pastry just filed with cream cheese and no crab or taste. My wife was yearning for egg fu yung and I wanted sweet and sour pork. The egg fu yung had a burnt taste to it and small pieces of an unidentfible substance. She only took several bites. My pork dish was neither sweet nor sour. It had absolutely no taste. The incorporated carrots and onion slices were not edible. The final straw were the fortune cookies which were broight with the check. Both fortune cookies were stale and soggy. Mynt is our go-to place for great asian food - eating in at times, but mainly for take out. My favorites are the Sesame Chicken with fried rice, Tempura chicken, and the Egg Foo Young chicken. I have tried and liked other items on the menu (General's chicken, cashew and almond, vegetables, Hawaiian chicken, etc...) but somehow always go back to my favorites. Portions are good (I usually can't eat all of what I order) and the 'heat factor' can be adjusted as you like... just mention that when you order. Food is always nice and hot - just off the wok. The flavors are always well-balanced and fresh tasting compared with some places I have eaten at. I like that they offer chicken egg rolls, as I don't eat pork or seafood. Lunch menu is a bit smaller portion for less price. (Still a lot of food.) Dinner eat-in includes choice of very good soups (I like the Egg Drop) that are steaming hot. (Soup not included with take-out) Tea, coffee and fountain beverages are separate but refillable. Specialty beverages are by the single serving. No alcohol served. You get to enjoy real napkins with decent weight silverware on a real tablecloth covered with white paper (fun to draw on...) with a modern yet cozy atmosphere. What's not to love?! Small, pleasantly sparse interior with soft indirect lighting features during evening dining. Wait staff are slow but pleasant, like you're on island time. The menu goes on for days, with a smattering of familiar dishes from different cuisines. As Americanized Asian food goes, it's fine. There's nothing particularly authentic about it, and many dishes are overly sweet to make them more appealing to the masses. I've driven by Mynt fusion several times, and I've always been interested in checking it out. Last night I went with a party of 6, it was a short wait and the service was pretty good. I had the generals chicken with wonton soup and plain fried rice. Generous portions and I'd say my food was slightly above average, but a bit more expensive than a standard Chinese take out. However, since it included soup and was a lot of food it didn't feel like a rip off. It's all about preparation Presentation is everything at Mynt Fusion. The proprietors take great care to make sure every detail is just right. When we arrived, the first thing we noticed was how the table was set. Appetizer plates neatly arranged together with real silverware (not the cheap stuff) neatly wrapped in cloth napkins next to the plates. Seeing that, I knew we were in for a unique dining experience. We both ordered different appetizers and when they arrived, they were beautifully arranged on the same plate, ready to share. It looked like something you'd see in a food magazine. Delicious. Service was decent . I might be spoiled from having great Thai food in Grand Rapjds but the food was definitely not authentic. Egg drop soup was pretty good but the food was not flavorful, way too sweet and the spice level was waaaaay low. Went for sushi today with family. Service was OK but not great. Had to wait for chopsticks quite a while after getting our sushi for some reason. My water ran out and he didn't notice or offer to refill. When I requested some water I expected him to return with something to fill all of our waters, like in a normal restaurant. Instead he took my water away from me and made me wait until he refilled and brought it back. Kind of weird is all. Waiter just wasn't friendly, real dry. The sushi rice was sort of dry, hard compared to other places. Basically tasted like they used regular rice like you would at home instead of a high quality sushi rice. It was comparable to grocery store sushi, yet priced higher than most of the sushi restaurants I've been to in town. $7 for a California with sesame seeds instead of the fish eggs on the outside. Those are usually $4.50 to $5.00 rolls. Edamame was also expensive at $6 for a pretty small bowl. We only went here because the restaurant we wanted to visit in town had a one hour wait. This place was nearly empty on a Saturday night. My first clue that it wasn't going to be great. Overall- wasn't "bad" it just wasn't really good and it was over priced for dinner. This restaurant has been my absolute favorite ever since the first time my wife and I tried it, (shortly after they opened). My wife and I developed a craving for oriental curry dishes during a few years we spent in Japan. Good food, but the wait staff is a bunch of Lowell high school kids who don't know much about the menu, and need the owners to process any takeout order, but they are very polite. I've had dishes that were fantastic from here but I've also had the bowl of seoul which is a horrible concoction of rubbery noodles, bad sauce, and overcooked egg to accompany chewy scallops.
