Pho Xin Chao is the name and owners are different than Mekong. Pho Xin Chao is the best Vietnamese food in town! My Vietnamese mother and family frequent this restaurant. It's authentic, fresh, clean and friendly. I need to post some pics but wanted to review because it's that good and I want them to stay open! Many of the dishes are great but these 3 dishes I order consistently. -any of the Pho soups - good flavor, not too much MSG, very large bowls, fresh add in veggies, perfect amount of meat -Pho Ap Chao - very large serving with tons of veggies, beef and seafood. The shrimp is good quality not that pumped up, weird textured stuff. And this is how pan fried wide thick noodles should be prepared, crispy and a little burnt on the bottom -Cảnh ga chiến nước mủm (fried chicken wings in fish sauce and garlic) - savory, a little sweet, not a ton of breading. It's a lot of wings so could be shared as an appetizer but I normally eat it with rice as a meal. I do wish they had a stir fry veggie dish but we order it with Pho Ap Chao and share family style. Just a few mentions they could improve on. Add a stir fry dish, the Com Sung Trứng dish is not very flavorful and sometimes they run out of dishes things. We ordered the Mekong Special Maloney which was a chicken broth noodle soup with lots of seafood including shrimp and squid with pork meat. The broth was very flavourful and the portion was huge as well. This is our go to restaurant for Vietnamese food in Grand rapids area. It is worth the drive from Kalamazoo !! read more

Don't drive past this place! I mean it. If you do turn-around and go back. I got their beef combination and my wife chicken Maloney. My food was out-of-the-park (so was hers)! And so much food. The beef and then the meatballs (they shouldn't be called that as they are so delish). Fresh basil, fresh sprouts...oh my gosh! I put some heat on mine and it drove it home! And $8.00! Are you freaking kidding me! Get here now before they run out. I'll be driving out of my every week, or couple of days, or maybe every day! read more

10/10 Would definitely come here again. I ordered the Pho Dac Biet (pho standard), and the broth and noodle soup was already delicious. Not too salty or sweet, and not overfilled with animal fat. Ordered to go on a Tuesday night and order was ready in 15 minutes. Had the fish sauce chicken wings and combination fried rice. Hands down one of the tastiest fried rices I've ever had. There was lots of sauce and ingredients. Surprised with the quality of shrimp in it as well. The chicken wings were large and came with about 8-10 wings. They served it with a lime and salt/pepper to add as needed which was great. Overall great experience and will come again. read more

I happened upon this place when I was actually on the way back from another restaurant I love. It was too late (and I was also very full!), but I vowed to come back. I was not disappointed. This is definitely a family run business, which I always really enjoy. Our waitress was helpful and friendly, as a good portion of the menu kind of assumed you knew what certain dishes were, which is not a negative for me (I have a smartphone, I can google stuff! Or ask whoever is waiting on us). My friend ordered a pork, shrimp, egg, and rice dish while I got hu tieu ga, I think! I made the mistake of forgetting to take a picture of the menu, but hu tieu ga is one of my recent google searches, so I got that or something similar. It was basically a soup similar to pho, but with clear rice noodles and chicken instead of pork. Both dishes were divine and both were so big, it required boxes at the end. The bill with drinks came out to $11-12 each before tip, which is definitely a deal in my book. Mekong was a tolerable/satisfactory pho restaurant, but definitely is not my favorite (Pho Soc Trand and Pho Anh Trang being my best experiences so far). Thus restaurant was rather dirty and the tables and menus were sticky. The vegetarian pho had less generous portions of veggies and tofu than im used to. The broth was flavorless, which is perhaps because vegetarian pho/pho chay wasn't even on their menu. I had to special request it. Perhaps its not something their kitchen is used to making...? Either way, not my favorite, and Im certain to go to the aforementioned pho restaurants over this place in the future. read more

Tried the combination pho, which has everything in it. Broth was oily and rich, which is a good thing, but it was missing that five spice aroma that is synonymous with pho. It was a good broth, but for something like chicken noodle soup or beef noodle, not really for pho. It was still delicious, just didn't feel like it hit the spot for my authentic Vietnamese pho craving. The waitress was really nice, and polite. They also have house made hot chili oil on the table, which makes a huge difference to the taste of the broth, but still didn't smell like pho. read more

I have mix feelings about this place. From out of town. Brought the family here for lunch in the early afternoon. The pho was excellent and the portion was great. However the sauces for the spring rolls were a bit odd. It almost tasted like caramel. The thing that put me off was it closed early. Like more than 30 mins early. We came back again because it was real close to our hotel. So you can imagine the disappointment of my kids when we had to drive else where for dinner. read more

I'm glad I finally got to check this place out! It's always been on my radar, but I foolishly took my time due to the average rating found right here on Yelp. Well that was stupid of me. The best thing about this place is that the menu is different and offers authentic dishes along with the classic ones Americans love. Snail, chicken feet, curried frog legs, pho, spring rolls, etc. The food was great, in taste and also in quality. I ordered the Beef with Lemon? (I don't remember the exact name of the dish) and it was good, although I would have preferred it spicier. The spring rolls were better than most in town. The interior is casual, nothing fancy. The annoying guy I got stuck traveling with really wanted Vietnamese and we were staying at the Hampton Inn down the road. Looked this place up on Google Maps, but regret it. Should have used trusty Yelp instead. Google had some fake reviews in there for sure. They are trying here, but even that's a stretch. It's a Vietnamese/Chinese place and it was absolutely dead at 12:30 mid-week. That should have been the tip off. I went with the Bun (Rice Noodle dish) and it had a variety of mystery meat. The woman there seems very nice, but once she brought out the food, she disappeared. We finally had to holler into the kitchen so they would come back out and give us the check. The interior when you walk into it's not that high top classy but really I don't care what really go's into the heart of the restaurant is it's service and it's food The service is pretty good we had no complications with them and we had no complications with them, so it was pretty good. The food was pretty much the best we ordered pho dac biet which is a traditional pho soon with meat balls, meat and a beef broth soup. It wasn't the best pho but it appealed to me. Entering the place there was barely anyone there until I got there. It was a little past 11:00 am. The interior wasn't appealing to me. I ordered pho. The pho was alright but I felt like black pepper was unnecessary to add....which was strange. I went because I wanted my pho fix and this place was one of a few already in Grand Rapids area that I needed to try. And closest to where I live. I think the mom of the lady who owns the restaurants served me. I asked for Vietnamese eggrolls because if you don't have cash, don't just get pho or one item off the menu! I don't think the elderly lady understood me when I asked for eggrolls as well. They don't take credit/debit cards if you don't spend more than $10. However, the Vietnamese eggrolls were better than the pho. (Always ask if you know someone who knows the Vietnamese restaurants to go eat at that are the best!) read more

The wife and I went here for lunch December 2019. I ordered some pho and two bites in I noticed a roach in my food. I got the pho removed from my bill but my wife still had to pay for hers. When she went up to pay another one was running across the counter and the lady tired to kill it while processing her payment. I talked to a few coworkers about this and they all said they stopped going to the pizza place right next door for the same reason a few month earlier. That whole strip is infested and clearly nothing has been done about it. I called the health department. read more

Holy egg rolls! I never have high hopes for them at any restaurant. My mom makes the BEST lumpia, so everything else pales in comparison. But, these egg rolls were really delicious! I'd put them up as a close second to my mom's. Well done, Mekong! I ordered the #16 Pho soup with meatballs and rare beef. I love Pho and this was pretty good. I think next time I'll just ask them to leave out the meatballs. If you like meatballs, you'll probably like them - I'm just not a fan. I also ordered the iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk - always yummy. Service was very good - quick and courteous. The restaurant was pretty clean for the most part, floors and tables were very clean. I'll be back in again the next time I'm in town. I might even make a special trip for those egg rolls! read more

Best pho soup I've ever had! The selection of Vietnemese and Chinese food is pretty good. I wish they had a few more vegetarian options but still great for the value. Price is not bad and the young man who waited on me was very polite. It's a very nice family run business and a really nice atmosphere. Sometimes they even have Vietnemese movies on-that gives the place a very authentic feel! read more
