We came here on a Friday night for some Pho and the grilled pork over rice. The pho combo option was as expected, flavorful, didn't disappoint. After learned that they couldn't add a fried egg and no sausage option with the grilled pork, I opted for the three meat combo over rice instead, beef, chicken and lamb. The meat were flavorful and honestly I couldn't tell between lamb and beef in the end. But it was so good, especially with the fish sauce, yummy. Kids enjoyed the fried rice and wanted more of the spring rolls. Only dish that we were thrilled by was the beef stew, ok to skip. The place is small with limited seating. If you are a party of more than four you could have a hard time with tables. There was just one small round table that could accommodate a part of six, but beyond that, they will have to put together a few tables which is a challenge on the weekends. Location is super convenient. There is a Haagen-Dazs right around the corner and a laundry mat. Drop off your laundry, get some Pho, then stop by Haagen Dazs for dessert, sounds like a perfect night. read more

I was back in my old neighborhood a while ago to do some things, and the folks suggested dinner at this small Vietnamese place. We arrived early, which was a good thing, as more and more people came in, including some families, and eventually there was a line of people trying to eat here. The service was friendly, though a tad slow, likely because they were overwhelmed. Since I had a headache, I got a Vietnamese Iced Coffee/Cà Phê Sữa Dá for $5.99. This was properly done, being lightly sweet with plenty of strong coffee flavor. On a side note, instead of the standard sriracha, they have a much tastier Vietnamese brand of hot sauce here, which I appreciated. We started with two appetizers. As they were out of the Curry Chicken Skewers/Gà Xiên Nướng Cà Rị, we started with the Lemongrass Beef Skewers/Bò Nướng Xả for $9.95, served with spring onion, fried onion flakes, and soybean peanut sauce. This was my favorite dish of the evening as the beef had plenty of lemongrass flavor, and was tender and juicy. The little side salad was a good accompaniment, and the sauce was nice, but not needed. I would recommend this heavily. We also got the Summer Rolls/Gỏi Cuốn for $7.49, with vermicelli, lettuce, mint leaves, pickled daikon, and peanut sauce. Said dish has a choice between shrimp and tofu, and we got the latter. These were standard with a slightly chewy wrapper and plenty of vegetables. This was nice and refreshing with a good peanut sauce. For my main dish, I got the Grilled Vermicelli Platter/Bún Thịt Nướng with Mỹ Tho vermicelli noodles, assorted vegetables, mint, and house dressing. The price depends on topping, and I got the $15.49 option with a combo of three, with my choices being pork, spring rolls, and beef. As with the appetizer, the beef was tender and had some lemongrass flavor. The pork was on the bone and likely marinated similarly to the beef and was also tasty, though a bit less tender. The spring rolls were freshly fried being hot and crunchy, though a little oily. They were my least favorite part, but I've never been the biggest fan of spring rolls, regardless of culture, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. The fish sauce added a mild sweetness to the cold vermicelli, and I liked the dish a bit more once I added their hot sauce as per usual. This was good overall and a good portion size to boot. Another person got a Pho with beef and brisket for $12.99, and there was also a decently priced Combination Pho/Phở Dặc Biệt for the same price as my entree. I tried a bit of the broth, which was good, and there were plenty of noodles. The last person, who was not as hungry, ordered a very reasonably priced Chicken Bahn Mi/Bánh Mì Gà for $8.95, which they liked. This was an above-average Vietnamese place, and I could see why there were lines to get in. The food was decently priced, the meat was cooked properly, and the portions were nice. Ordered takeout from Saigon Bistro for my coworkers, and overall it was a solid experience with a few hits and a few misses. The wings were a bit too greasy for my liking, and one of the flavors was really hot --definitely spicier than expected for me. The calamari was also a letdown, as it was pretty chewy. That said, the crab fried rice was very good. The crab tasted fresh, and you could tell the rice was made to order--nothing tasted like it had been sitting around or prepared the day before. The chicken fried rice was also flavorful, with a nice ginger-forward taste in the chicken that really stood out. The spring rolls were another win--fresh, tasty, and enjoyable. Overall, some dishes were stronger than others, but the freshness and flavor of the fried rice alone make this worth another try. Solid prices, great menu and really good Vietnamese food. We dropped by for lunch one day visiting our old neighborhood and was pleasantly surprised by the menu, and ultimately the food. What a nice treat, bowls were pretty huge, we had our kids share one bowl of pho and it was PLENTY. They have all the regular fixings and offerings plus a few menu options like a special calamari dish, various teas and drinks and some apps that are great options for sharing. Summer rolls (5/5) were fresh, big and delish Pho we tried the combo, regular and seafood all were (5/5) good broth, ample noodles and loads of yummy ingredients The restaurant overall is small and located in the plaza with CVS and Panera. I'm so glad to have a great pho restaurant in fair lawn! We've dined in a few times but mostly do takeout from Saigon Bistro. The inside is on the smaller side, with 4-5 tables. For appetizers, the tofu summer rolls and great. They're refreshing and come with a delicious peanut dipping sauce. We always get pho- the vegetable, chicken, and beef are all great. And they package the pho very well for takeout- the noodles and add-ins come separately from the broth. We've tried the curry noodle, pad Thai, banh mi, everything is great. We were pleasantly surprised when we stopped by here for dinner. Hidden in a small strip mall in town, the inside is bigger than what it seems outside. The Spicy Lemongrass Soup was more creamy than it was spicy but still very delicious and fresh in a way too. The pho is also great here - and if you're ordering the meat rolls, ask for more of the pickled daikon and carrots, as the acidity really helps cut out any greasiness from the soups. Pretty solid pho place within the vicinity. A few months ago, I would have given this place a 4, maybe 5 star rating, but I'll explain why it's now a 3 star rating. The pho here is solid. I wouldn't say it's super authentic, but the flavor is good enough. Normally I get beef pho, but I happened to try the chicken pho (to be a little healthy) and I haven't gone back to beef (I still get beef pho everywhere else though). The grilled chicken here is very very good. It's grilled to perfection and there is a good amount of flavor in the chicken. They still use the beef stock so the only difference is the meat topping. One thing I've noticed is that their portions are getting smaller and smaller. The chicken size is smaller and the amount of noodles in the pho has drastically gone down. Noodles are so cheap so not sure why they feel the need to skimp on it but it definitely makes me second guess coming back here. The service is fine as there are only 5 tables in the restaurant. The one thing about eating there is that it is always frigid cold in the restaurant. Every patron is wearing their jackets. I actually like cold temps, but even I find it way too cold in there. Granted spring is around the corner, but if they turn on the heat on cold days and go back to their original portions, def a 5-star place in my book. read more

The sister location of the original in Fort Lee and, let's just say, IT'S MUCH BETTER. We dined at the location in Fort Lee and, to be honest, it wasn't close to the best Vietnamese food we had. In fact, we were quite disappointed when we went there. However, as for this location - the food was MUCH, MUCH better. First, this location is a lot smaller and has a much more local feel than the one in Fort Lee. Second, like I said, the food was just so much better tasting here. We ordered a Vermicelli Platter with Spring Rolls and a Beef Combo Pho for takeout. Both were pretty good. Crunchy spring rolls in the vermicelii and flavorful broth and meat in the pho. Everything was seasoned well and was what we expected. In the end, I can't say any of the food was life-changing, but it was all solid and hit the spot. It's always great to find another solid Vietnamese option in Bergen county. This is a relatively new spot but they have two other locations. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious and servers are very friendly. The restaurant is in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The food. We ordered the spring rolls. They were wonderfully deep fried and comes with a full plate of accoutrements to enhance the eating experience. The pickled carrots and carrots were really well done not overly sweet nor vinegary. The dipping sauce as another reviewer stated was a bit more on the savory side, not your typical cloying sweet dipping sauce u get at other Vietnamese restaurant. I didn't hate I though my wife was not as big of a fan. The pho beef combo was tasty, the borth was very flavorful yet felt clean to the palete. It was covered in green herbs which added to the flavor but presented a bit of a challenge to our little one who wasn't as keen on all the chopped up green bits. Recommendation for next time, ask them to put the herbs on the side and add it after we portion out the noodle for our little one. This way everyone can enjoy their meal. We also got the shaking beef, man the sauce was so good we could've just drenched the rice and ate it as is. The beef was cooked but not overly tough and the peppers and onions were done well. We will definitely order that again. We did not get to try the pork chop w rice but will need to try it out. My one ding on the place is that they served our meal e Jaime rice instead of broken rice. Server was extremely fast, knowledgeable and accommodating without being too invasive. Complimentary jasmine tea was a nice touch. The steamed dumplings were a fantastic appetizer. I got the beef combo pho - lots of onions and cilantro, they pepper the sauce. The broth is more aromatic and spiced than meaty so keep that in mind if you prefer a very hearty broth! But I couldn't help but notice that the noodles were clumped together and the broth wasn't as hot as I would've liked, which suggested potential pre-preparation. There's nothing wrong with that, but I wish they could've taken the time to loosen up the noodles in hot water and ensure the broth is hot before serving. My family got lucky when this place opened up down the street from us. After all, pho is one of the best foods for when you need a pick-me-up and Saigon Bistro's pho is great. We order the Beef Combo Pho. Broth is rich and flavorful, the side ingredients (bean sprouts, rice noodles, raw beef, jalapeño and lime slices) are always nice and fresh and the meats and slices of tripe are always tasty. The one drawback is that the amount of meat they serve varies. Sometimes it's a great amount and other times it feels like they could have added more and maybe just skimped a bit.
