The fresh veggies are always cooked to perfection and the banh mi's are delicious and way more affordable than other places. The employees are also very attentive and friendly. What used to be Lemongrass on Fowler is now Saigon Bay, but we still call it Lemongrass :) - They treat me so well, knowing that I love the spice and peppers, and they always oblige. Ricky makes his own chili oil that doesn't make it a couple of days after he gives me some to take home - it's that good. So happy I can update my review from over 10 years ago. I went to Saigon Bay over a decade ago, but it's completely different. From reading James review, he reminded me of their awful fire in 2020, and how they rebuilt in this location. So happy to stop by here for lunch with my friend. We loved our server who was like a mom to us as soon as we walked in. I ordered a pork banh mi sandwich, & my server said get the quail appetizer, and so I did. My friend got the beef stew - Bo Kho with bread, not noodles. She did not want noodles. We shared them, and I loved the seasoning of the quail. I also loved dipping my sandwich in the broth of the stew. It was so tasty and had a sweet tinge to it. I also loved the carrots. I didn't love the beef so much but I do love the broth and veggies in the beef stew. It's different bc it's a thin broth not like a thick American beef stew. Everything was tasty here. Our server was so sweet. She spoke very good English and she made sure we mixed and made sure we ate the salad with the quail and made sure we had everything just right before we ate it. If you're on the fence about which pho place to go after leaving Busch Gardens, stop looking. The best pho our entire party has ever had while dining out. The pho was so perfect that our son said it didn't even need hoisin sauce. The spring rolls both vegetarian and non were also very delicious. They came out quick and not even a bit greasy. I have not been here since 2015. I had just gotten interested in pho, but not writing for yelp consistently. I had pho at the then current Fowler location. From what I remember, food was good and the interior was nicely decorated. I tried Saigon Deli later and became a frequent patron for the next 6 years. Unfortunately, the 2020 riots saw this restaurant burned down and seemingly closed for good. Somehow, I never knew that they reopened on 56th in the brick plaza opposite Outback Steakhouse until fellow Elite yelper Rachel L. wrote a review. Inside is a clean, comfortable cafe that can hold about 50 people. There is upbeat Vietnamese music playing. They serve many Viet staples like pho, banh mi, stir fried meat/rice combos, and boba drinks. I ordered pho tai and a grilled pork banh mi sandwich. The pho has a nice broth and there is a good amount of solid food-noodles/beef etc. I'd say Saigon Deli broth is %10 tastier, though Saigon Bay has fresher dressings like jalapeno, mint leaves, and sprouts. 4/5 The banh mi had very crunchy bread, aromatic cilantro and fresh carrots/cucumber, and nicely seasoned meat. The sandwich was about 6 inches in length. 5/5 Awesome! Their pho is $12 and Banh mi are are $7 which are comparable to SDeli and Zen Noodle Bar (I miss $8 dollar pho Stupid COVID lol.) Another pro (for me) is that they are open on Sundays until 9 pm. (They are closed Mondays fyi.) I was going to Zen Noodle for pho the last year, but they seem to have supply issues that is making me lose interest in getting pho from there. This year, making it my mission to find the best Vietnamese restaurant in Tampa. First on the chopping block... 4 stars for food & restaurant category in general. Only 3 stars, in my honest opinion, for specifically Vietnamese food only category. If that makes sense haha Pho and BBH were served piping HOT. It sometimes surprises me how some places will serve me lukewarm warm broth. Like no, I want to burn the inside of my mouth thank you very much. (Hack: if you also like your broth super hot but for your pho meat to not cook too fast, you can order it on the side) Pho was pretty standard and yummy. They use the thin pho noodles. We did have to order extra onions and green onion toppings. Didn't really need to add anything else to the broth. BBH had a good hit of spice. I did add more sate and shrimp paste for more heat and umami. That's just how I personally like my BBH. Will make the note that it had a lot of meat, but they did not serve with the pork hock or blood cubes so I was a bit sad about that. The sate looked like it was made in house possibly?? I knew I was in for a scrumptious treat as soon as the aroma of fresh pho herbs greeted me at the door. We were welcomed immediately. The booth seating here is very comfortable. There's lots of natural light throughout the restaurant. The service is fantastic. I'm not sure if she's the owner, or part of the owner's family. She made the whole lunch experience enjoyable by making us feel like family at a dinner table. She offered such great suggestions, and showed us ways to prepare our meal for a better experience. My friend ordered the Fried Quail appetizer after getting a recommendation. I'd never had quail before this visit. I loved it! It's the seasoning that made it so special. I even tried a little of the salad with the garlic (and maybe there were shallots). I don't know, but it was so good after our server mixed it up for us. Let's just say that the greens underneath the quail in this dish is not meant to be a garnish. Eat it!! I've been on a Bò Kho kick lately, so that's what I ordered. I asked if she had any bread to go with it (for dipping). I was delighted when she said yes. That's the one thing I've missed when ordering Vietnamese beef stew at other restaurants. She then asked if I still wanted the noodles since I'm getting it with bread. I thought about it for a minute, and it actually made sense not to have the rice noodles. It couldn't have been more perfect. The broth with the stew meat and thick cut carrots was really all I needed. It's a little sweeter of a taste than others I've had, but I think it went well with the savory herbs & spices. It balanced everything out. I'm so glad I had that bread to soak up the broth. The temperature of the stew was served hot, and not lukewarm (thankfully). It stayed hot while having a long conversation over the meal. However, I do want to warn you about the jalapeños. Their peppers are very hot, and not like your grocery store peppers that seem mild. Try it before you add it to your broth. I've had all kinds of jalapeño pepper heat levels, but never at this high level. It cleared out my sinuses really quick. Woohoo! I'd definitely order the same thing again. I do want to try the Grilled Pork Banh Mi next time with the beef stew. My friend really loved that combination of flavors. I had no idea about their relocation until reading the review from fellow Yelp friend James. Wow, that must have been devastating. I'm so glad they were able to overcome that. They are now located in the Terrace Oaks Plaza near Roasted! and Jerusalem International Market on 56th Street. We were there at a less busier time between 10:30 and 11:00 am on a week day. This is our go to for Vietnamese food! We come here at least 2-3 times a month! The food and service here is amazing and very consistent with their food. My favorite drink here is Iced Jasmine Tea! If you like a refreshing, floral tea for the hot summer, high recommend ordering it. My favorite appetizer for any Vietnamese restaurant is spring rolls! You can tell whether the restaurant is good or not is by eating spring roll since it's hard to mess up. My to go to dish here is the fry quail rice platter! The quail is so juicy and savory. Make sure you dip the quail with red chili, salt/pepper, and lemon. When you eat the quail with the rice and salad, SUPER DELICIOUS! Although the quail is small, but the meat is so tender, juicy, and soft! Highly recommended! The bun bo hue, pho special, and wonton soup here is so good! The soup is so flavorful and the consistency of the noodles is perfect. The proportion between the meat and noodles is perfect! You don't have to add much seasoning if you want it more savory but the vegetable is fresh. I love coming here since everyone is friendly and plenty of parking! This place is a local favorite for Vietnamese food. I ordered their P2 Beef Pho and the broth was rich and tasty. The fresh rolls were just standard, but their fried spring rolls were fire!!! You can tell they are made in-house and crisped to perfection. I'd say they make one of the best spring rolls in town. I also ordered a coconut drink that had some good chunks of coconut pulp that was absolutely refreshing. My bf ordered their garlic noodles with beef. The noodles were extremely garlic forward which is great for garlic fanatics. The beef tasted ok to me, but he didn't care for the type of cut. He said it was too fatty in some areas. He misses their Shaking Beef when they offered it at their old location. I hope they bring it back one day. I am glad this hidden gem is nearby! Sorry, we did not take any pictures, but I will say is what we ate was absolutely delicious. Two of us got their iced coffee. My husband got their Dorian drink. We got the kimchi roll and the fried quail for appetizers. I got the stirfry vegetables with chicken a friend of ours got a noodle dish and then my husband got the pork chop. Like a phoenix, they arose from the ashes and are back, better than ever! We had the pleasure to stop here, while waiting for a Yelp event to open. They are small and family run, but you won't get better service or flavor for your money. We sat, and a waiter came over gave us menus, while another person came over and delivered waters. When our order was taken it was very friendly and efficient. The food was brought out by one of the cooks and family members, she was very earnest in welcoming us back, as one of my group had been going to old Saigon Bay for a long time. The food? AMAZING! Their fresh rolls were fresh and flavourful, the crab Rangoon, was savoury and delicious. I legitimately had the best pork fried rice I've ever had at any establishment, with a serving that fed me 3 times. My husband Ben and I have been eating at Siagon Bay since before Saigon Bay was Saigon Bay, it started out as Lemongrass, then changed to Siagon Bay, then got sold to a new owner. The restraunt has moved three times in that time period (since the 1980's). I ate at all three places now. It doesn't matter where it is, what it looks like now ( vs the last location) or who owns it, it is the most amazing food in the world. We can only attest to the egg rolls (fried spring rolls), potstickers (steamed or fried) and Shaking Beef, as we have been stuck on the same thing for over 30yrs. The taste of this combination of food is like a dream in your mouth and they make it pertfecy. I am almost certain that the rest of the food is just as great, as many people eat at Saigon Bay. Almost all the tables were taken when we last went. We were very glad to get seated quickly and our food came out almost just as quickly.
