This place deserves far more attention than it gets and easily outstrips any other BBQ restaurant…read morein Lafayette. Trust me, this hidden gem is the best in local barbecue. First, let's talk the food. As a native Texan, I have a certain taste for real BBQ. And here in Lafayette, this is as close to the genuine article as you can find. The brisket is magnificent and very generous helpings of sides are always available! Staff is always friendly and has been very kind. They are always anxious to strike up a conversation and I highly recommend doing so! Price is also right for the portions they give. And they give very generous portions. Ambiance and environment is another plus about this place. The place feels like an authentic Texas or Carolina-style barbecue joint, complete with animal skins and hides, farm tools, and branding irons for decor. A roaring fireplace is in the room, albeit here in the heart of southern Louisiana, it will probably never be used. A tv is available for those anxious for entertainment with their meal. My only complaint about this place are the hours. Sadly, it is only open during a very specific time slot and that is at lunch time, Mondays thru Fridays, for about two hours or so. But all the other facets more than make up for this! If you're in the mood for quality barbecue in Lafayette, drop by this very awesome place for the genuine article!

It's probably one of the best (of few) BBQ joints in the Lafayette/Broussard area. The brisket…read moretastes great with plenty of side options to choose from. Unfortunately they are only open for lunch, with a very tight window to eat. They were sold out of a couple things when we arrived. The ambiance fits the style; very rustic, with plenty of neat things (tools, etc) hanging on the walls to look at. Being from out-of-town, I typically dine at more Cajun and local-style cuisines while visiting, but this was a good change of pace. I'm from an area where there are a lot of BBQ joints, i think it was par for the course; but certainly a bright spot in the area. Enjoyed it, and worth the visit again!

My family has been coming here for a few years now, but today's experience was not great. When my mom confirmed and started ordering, my mom asked "and the meal usually comes with rice dressing?" The response? "Well you tell me." I understand it's a busy Sunday lunch, but when we walked in there, only 4 other people were in there. When we got there, food was just about to be ready, and the woman fixing it barely looked at us or acknowledged us. We said "thank you" and were met with grumbles. Then the woman who mother spoke to on the phone was very demeaning to the other woman in front of us, berating her for not being in the correct area to order (which was only 3 feet away). The food was decent, but considering they made $100 off my family for 6 meals for probably $10 worth of food per plate, it just puts a bad taste in our mouths. Very disrespectful. If you don't like working there, you don't have to take it out on the people just trying to get a Sunday meal.

The potato salad had an overwhelming amount of mustard in it. The beef with rice and gravy was not fit for eating. The beef, I'm not sure what part of the cow that was from, but it tasted a lot like liver. The gravy was way, way, way too oversalted. Establishment very old and rundown. So by entering and seeing disappearance I thought to myself surely the food must be phenomenal. NOT. The two ladies working behind the serving counter we're not at all friendly, unless you were a regular. She just stood there as I approach the counter until I said one meet and 2 vegetables correct? She just simply said yes. I asked if I could have the red beans as one of my sides and she strongly stated NO there is sausage in it. Now mind you the sausage links were 3 or so inches long so it would not have been difficult to get me a serving of beans. I asked could I have just the beans without the sausage of course as a side, she just said no. English peas and corn have been in the heat for a while. When I went to check out the other lady simply said cash or card. I also asked if they were sweet tea because I noticed there was only unsweet on the counter. She simply replied with only the words ~~~ unsweet. So lessons learned, first and last time at this place. Really don't understand how they have the few customers that they do, perhaps family.
