This hidden gem is located off the beaten path in alameda, but so worth it. I found this place, because of a Yelp elite event, and brought a friend with me to help support this local business. I was greeted with a treasure box of goodies & 2 delicious macaroons(cherry blossom & sesame). The sample box that I received was little bit of different varieties they serve ( All very tasty 5/5 star). My friend also ordered a lion king roll, and we shared everything. The staffs were so nice and gave me a few pamphlets of other establishments that they also support. I love seeing small businesses supporting each other. read more

Ambiance: It's a very cute and trendy place -- worthy of a lot of pictures! There are two separate seating areas with plenty of seating, but there didn't seem to be a lot of people there for a lunch hour. Service: The person at the front counter was very kind! We were slightly confused on how to order (it's more of a self-service place), but they guided us! Food: We ordered the egg drop soup, the curry udon, and the tonkotsu ramen. I loved the egg drop soup! I wish the curry udon had more ingredients, and it seemed slightly over-ginger-y. The tonkotsu ramen had really light flavoring. read more

Food: its basic restaurant quality so no flashy prices. Slurp shop tonkatsu ramen ranked at the top followed by the chirashi or omakase set. Their katsu sandwiches are big. Dont even bother with the dim sum/yue club (you can get frozen versions from weee/R99, make it at home and it'll taste better). Lookout for this con: THEY SUBSTITUTE AN ITEM that they ran out without really telling you. Every time they do this, and they do it a lot, I wish they didn't! How many times I've had this done to me? 1) They replaced a wagyu nigiri with some other fish that had bones 2) They replaced the ramen kakuni with grilled beef and I got real bad digestion. 3) The suimai replaced with gross soggy dumplings. I honestly would rather get cash back OR they could just ask me what I prefer the substitution be. If this happens to me again I should just return the food and get my money back. read more

Avoid. Food isn't seasoned well and service was poor. For not being busy at all they didn't seem interested in explaining to me and my husband how the restaurant worked. We ordered the potstickers, one of the ramen bowls, and another dish that wasn't memorable. We came in hungry and couldn't finish half of the food. I even asked for more soy sauce and seasoning to add but the execution was so poor the food wasn't worth the calories. At the end of the meal we were asked if we wanted take out containers and couldn't imagine eating the leftovers so paid and left. Super disappointing. read more

A very laid back place to get great sushi and sashimi. Everything tasted very fresh. You scan the QR code at your table and order on you phone and then the food comes to your table on a robot kitty or someone brings it to your table. There's a cute little arcade for the customers to play on while you wait for your food. It was a very pleasant experience. They have a dim sum set, which looked pretty good too. read more

I am in awe at how beautiful this place is. It's chic, great vibe, and a really cute date location for friends or couples. As you walk in you'll see a long front counter and there are seats all around you. As we say, we were informed to scan the QR code, order what we want on our phone and pay that Way as well. Very convenient. Oh their menu they have 4 different restaurants; Koharu Japanese cafe; serves sandos, rice plates, and curry. Yue club; offers a variety of dim sum. Sachi sushi restaurant; like it's name has a variety of sushi options. Lastly there's Slurp Shop; this is where you'll find small appetizers and different choices of ramen. We ordered Niku Tantan Mein from Slurp shop, house made XLB from Yue club, and beef katsu Sando, Soboro Don with crab cream croquette from Koharu. Loved the medium cooked beef sando. The tan tan mein wasn't bad but can use more spice. The XLB soup dumpling was really good. And the Soboro was good too, sweet and savory. Great service, cute restaurant, a good food. read more

Great variety! We got dim sum, curry, and potstickers and all three were delicious. Definitely coming back!

This place has it all: Dim Sum, Sushi, Bento Boxes and now Ramen! I recently discovered the new Slurp Shop concept that was added to the menu selection at SAGA Kitchen in Alameda. We ordered Meyer Lemon Shio Ramen, Birria Ramen, (go on weekends to get this!), Dim Sum Sampler, Chicken Karaage I love Ramen for its nourishing broth-- I really can't get enough of it! This eatery is also such a crowd pleaser when you're with a bunch of friends who are craving different types of food. The setting is laid back and casual and has both indoor and outdoor dining. This spot is located in the corner of Lincoln and Grand. There's limited parking outside the cafe/kitchen but it's ok because right now they're only doing take-outs/pick-ups and delivery. FYI, they do have three table settings outside the cafe.... My first time here. I would have never know about it if it wasn't for our Yelp elite event! So thank you once again Yelp!!! The place has different restaurants that are co-located that you can order from the same spot. Of course we got the bento box from Kiyoi, it had a variety of protein inside like fish, meat ball, egg, I think it had chicken and spicy noodle. Loved it all, would've tasted better if the food was hot. But still tasty. We also ordered the Curry Rice w/Ebi, Fried Tofu w/Shrimp, Matcha and Hong Kong Style Tea. Love, love, love the fried tofu! Though I tasted mostly shrimp, I still loved it, love how it was crispy on the outside and meaty inside. For dessert we had 2 samples of the Artisan Macaron one of them was Cherry Blossom. It was ok, not too sweet. I have to say it's not any different that any other macaron I've tried. We want to give a shout out to Harry where we "experienced tea!" He was a delight! Very funny! Very knowledgeable about the tea as well! Keep that motivation Harry!!! read more

First time ordering from here since they have a promotional discount going on from their website. Street parking only but it was easy to find a parking spot. My favorite is soboro don crab cream croquette. Also ordered Sakura limited macaron set. Just a warning, the Sakura paper that came with it is not edible. I tried lol. Earl grey flavor was the best one in the box for me. As for drinks it's a bit on the bland side. Overall they offer variety at this place and I'm sure you'll find something that you like! read more

Food is pretty good. Decent portions but long wait time of about 35 minutes at 2:20pm despite their being no other customers waiting for orders. Ordered two kurobuta sandwiches, a soboro don and soboro/crab cream croquette bento. Only street parking is available and about six tables in front of shop to eat your food. 20% off first 5 orders if you use their app per sign in front of storefront. Came for dinner and tried something off of almost every menu. Orders are placed through a QR code at the table, paid up front, and either brought to you from the house kitchen by the cute kitty robot server or delivered by one of the servers from the bar/sushi bar. It's also semi-self-service as there's no utensils or sauces at the tables so you have to get those yourself. Ordered Asahi draft beer, house made XLB, Tonkotsu ramen, and sushi: A-5 Wagyu, O-toro, Ikura, Salmon belly, salmon nigiris and a negi hama roll. The house made XLB (xiao long bao/shanghai soup dumplings) weren't bad, they come with a cute little pipet to directly inject vinegar into each dumpling. Definitely not the same as going to a specialty dumpling restaurant or getting hand-made but good for a snack. Tonkotsu ramen was nice and hearty, good serving, chashu pork was well cooked and delicious, soft boiled egg was cooked perfectly. The only miss was that we had noted to exclude the bamboo and mushroom (kikurage) and they were included. Not a huge deal as they were easily removed just feel bad wasting. The sushi was all super fresh and mouth watering. The only small miss here was there were a few of our nigiri pieces that we ordered 2 of that only 1 came and had to ask the server to get the 2nd piece. Easily rectified but minor annoyance since we ordered them through the app so the quantity was just not read on the order tab. We happened to come in on the sushi chef's birthday I believe and there were lots of friends coming in to celebrate near the closing hour. Nice to see friends and staff being a family together. Overall a nice casual atmosphere with a chance to satisfy multiple food cravings at once. The only menu we didn't order from was the Koharu (Japanese cafe/curry) so we'll have to come back for lunch and maybe order more dim sum! read more

We had a great late lunch at SAGA last week. My wife had classic ramen and she is very critical of "Japanese" food, as am I. Ramen is distinguished by the broth and this Ramen excellent......great genuine pork broth! The noodles were good, as were the slices of perfectly cooked pork! I had classic chicken katsu.....and I enjoyed very bite....tender, tasty. We were stuffed and Gilbert (the owner) prepared a nice take home plate with a bowl of extra broth (no charge). A highlight was to meet Gilbert, a "real" local and graduate of Alameda High! This stirred old fashioned cross town rivalry as I am graduate of Encinal HS! We are taking our fam there this weekend for a birthday party and I cannot wait to see the reactions of my grandkids to the robot server! Great ambience! Oh, I had sashimi....I have had bad luck at some of the more famous places in Alameda and gotton vicious intestinal upset from others tuna sashimi because I m sure the raw fish was spoiled! Gilbert's sashimi was high quality, no gristle, a very nice piece of yellowfin which melted in my mouth. BTW I only eat tuna raw, and am particular! read more

I know it's alameda but this is the whitest Asian food I've ever had. I would expect food like this in a suburb or rural area, not the Bay Area. The "crab cream croquette" is so strange, you'd be better off getting frozen ones from 99 ranch. read more

My friend suggested we try out this place for her birthday lunch since she was craving dim sum. We are here today (3/23/23) during the lunch 12:00pm hour on a cold breezy sunny Thursday. We ordered a bunch of dim sum and a curry rice plate. We were the only ppl there, aside from a few take-out orders. The ambiance: loved the outside and inside. The plants and dining set-up is amazing. BUT--- chairs were stained and gross. And choice of music DESTROYED the cool vibe. I grew up in Oaktown, i enjoy good, meaningful rap music. But this music was super raunchy and explicit, every song! I asked the counter person if she could change the music to something more chill, and she said it's on a playlist so she couldn't. I asked if they could pick a different playlist and she said "no". She seriously acted like she did not care!!! My birthday friend decided better to eat outside than to have to listen to this music. We moved all our food, presents, water outside. It was breezy and freezing, and my napkin & fork was flying off the table. Btw there is zero wait service. Ordering is done via QR code and food is served by a robot waiter. No one asked once how the food was. Two dim sum items were good, the pork bun and sesame balls. The shu mai was weird textured and made with chicken (usually its supposed to be made with shrimp and pork). the curry katsu was pretty tasty, until I realized I was chewing on an undercooked piece of chicken and spat it out! Eeeww! So overall: Curry Katsu: 3 Dim Sum: 3.5 Customer Service: ZERO Decor: 5 Variety on menu: 5 Cost: 3 I wouldn't recommend this place unless some improvements were made. read more

Saga Kitchen is a pan asian food hall located in Alameda and is a one of a kind concept in the area. Inside you'll find 4 different concepts with each letter of the S.A.G.A owners Initials and their different backgrounds on their food. Saga Kitchen gives you a variety of Asian cuisines without having to put all your eggs into one basket in one restaurant and gives you options to have a little of everything in one convenient location. So hows the food? 1) Sachi Sushi: -Omakase sashimi set -Special sashimi set -Special keisen don -Assorted nigiri platter: A-5 Wagyu, kani, salmon, shima aji, ika, maguro, hon Maguro O-toro, Sunazuri. -Golden Dragon Roll -Spider Roll 2) Yue Club: -Chili oil dumpling -Salted egg yolk buns 3) Koharu: -Pork Katsu Curry rice -Pork Katsu Sando -Beef katsu sando 4) Slurp Shop: -House Tonkatsu Ramen I know this is a ton of food , and I wanna highlight some of the stuff as best as I can. Starting off with the sushi the fish here is served FRESH, it was clean and was very pleasant to eat and had positive reviews all around. The nigiris, sashimi and omakase really surprised us and the rolls were also so good. The 3x3 grid omakase box was a special tasting from Gilbert which will be showcased on the menu in the future! Second, we have Yue Club with the focus on chinese dim sum, unfortunately we skipped most of it, but the chili oil and salted egg bun was . Third, we got Koharu focused on Japanese street food. The SANDOS were BOMB, I havent had these since LA, and it brought back nostalgic memories. What surprised us the most was how the pork katsu wad still crispy after the hour photo shoot we took. Last, we got slurp shop, let me just say im not picky, unless it's ramen. And the ramen here was solid! I would order again . read more

The hype on this place is unbelievable. I keep seeing it on TikTok. So we went and gave it a shot. Let's start with this specific location, and how not one of the many restaurants that have been here lasted. But I thought maybe, this one may be it...considering the pretty good reviews. We ordered the dim-sum set, spicy wontons, char siu buns, and a sashimi set. From the dim sum set: Siu Mai were good. There were fat in the meat which made them moist and pretty tasty. The salted egg buns were actually quite tasty and had a good amount of fillings. The buns were nice and soft. Some other reviewers said they had very little fillings. But we had a pretty good amount. Hargow, soup dumplings, fried buns, shrimps balls...all very subpar. Especially the soup dumplings, they were worse than the frozen Trader Joe's ones. Thick wrapper, little filling, and barely there soup. The spicy wontons were fine. Sashimi...just ok. Could be better. The robot delivery is kind of cool, doesn't make the food good though. Decor is weird...Really bizarre mix of kitschy cutesy stuff and KAWS art. Service wise, you do almost everything yourself. This is the concept. It's understandable. Honestly they should bring out the plates and stuff, but you have to ask for it. OR just leave them at the self serve station. Also, they brought our food to the wrong table. Left it there and I'm pretty sure they brought the plate back inside and returned with the same plate a few minutes later. Pass. read more

So glad we have a cozy informal neighborhood restaurant where it is easy to have an impromptu Sunday night dinner with friends/family. First review of the year goes to one of my favorite finds in 2021. SAGA Kitchen is a restaurant with four concepts. That means if you're craving sushi and your friend wants ramen, no problem - go to SAGA! The other two concepts include dim sum and Japanese comfort food. My favorites include the Golden Treasures Box, which is a make your own hand rolls dish, their katsu sando and their tonkatsu rice dish. I've been a few times and dined in everytime. The space is inviting and fun. You can sit at the bar to watch sports as they're making your sushi or take a seat at one of their tables and get served by their special server (hint: he doesn't talk back if you try and talk to him, hahah). Don't forget to buss your own table when you're done - the robot can't do it all. ;) I would recommend ordering ahead on their app whether you're dining there or taking it to go. They're definitely getting more popular so keep that in mind when you put in your order. I'm so glad they opened up last year - a welcome addition to Alameda and without the bustle and headache of Park or Webster Street! read more

$35 for premium chirashi or treasure box. Only time I can afford $80+ for omekaze or treasure box is on my bday. This place is not too. The concept is interesting: you find a seat and use to QR code to order. Here they had a few dim sum items as well. They may come to give you water or food, and sometimes the Bellabot will come out. Food took about 15-20 min to come out, though we were the only customers. Friendly staff, but I think you have to get utensils and put away your own trays. Next door has a few more connected restaurants with the same concepts, but this restaurant was more quiet. Great for lunch on the weekdays, and there's ok street parking. read more

So after going to the Yelp event at SAGA Kitchen I had to give this place a try to see how things were on their regular menu. I was interested in trying their sushi because another fellow Yelp elite talked about how he knew the owner, who was very proud of his sushi skills since he had been doing it since he was a teenager. I also noticed that they offered Dim Sum and Bento Lunch Boxes of sorts. Display wise I give everything a +10/10, the packaging was beautiful, and I couldn't wait to dig in! Food wise, I would say things varied. The Dim Sum Set Meal by far got +10/10. The only thing I didn't like was the tofu skin, but that has to do with personal taste. The Salmon in my opinion lacked flavor and I felt like the skin was left on, which made it really chewy. Looking back at the pictures, SAGA kitchen does advertise this dish that way, so that's on me for not observing that. The Salmon Roe tasted fresh, like I got those vibrant flavors one typically gets when they eat it, but the salmon was a let down compared to other places where I've had Raw Salmon. Given that majority of the dish was the salmon I give it 6/10 , not what I expected to give it. Then the bento, I have to wonder where the tomato and the dipping sauce were, mostly because that's how it was advertised. There was also and abundance of scrambled egg , ground meat and I think steamed cabbage all pilled on top of a bed of rice. I don't think it paired well if I'm being honest, I think it lacked symmetry in a way, and the cabbage kinda smelled which didn't make me salivate in the good way. I was kinda disappointed. Despite my love for shrimp I have to give this a 5/10 . The beer was good and the people are supper friendly, plus the ramen I had at the event was really good . If I was in the area I would come back for their Dim Sum, Ramen and friendly service. Otherwise I think I would stick to other places closer to home for sushi and Bentos. read more

Surprised by how tasty this place was! They do dimsum and Japanese food (ramen, sushi, curry) My faves by far were their sushi items. The sashimi and nigiri tasted pretty fresh and the omakase is reasonably priced. The uni/ikura was good quality as well! I was eyeing the salmon ikura don but that'll have to wait until next time. Saga kitchen is the place you go eat if you can't decide what to eat. It's hard to describe this place. I would say it's kind of a virtual food court that has 3-4 different restaurants serving everything from toro sushi to dim sum. And that is exactly what I ordered. The shiumai was really good w a large shrimp on top. Then came a piece of toro which I would say was competent in every way and a shrimp ebi rice bowl which was a pretty large serving. My wife got ramen which was ok but needed a bit more fat and salt to make it a robust ramen. All of this you order on an app, and it's brought to you on a tray by a robot server which I thought was funny since the place was small and it saved someone 10 or so steps. The main draw for saga is the mix. If you're looking for the best ramen of you're life I don't think this is for you. But if you're looking for a place with a large and varied selection from ramen to sushi to dim sum I felt like this place did a great job at a good price point in a clean environment. read more

A one-stop location where you can get different Asian cuisine at one location? SAGA Kitchen, which opened in late 2020, offers that choice. It's located on Lincoln off Grand Ave in a mostly residential area, so street parking was easy. SAGA is a shared kitchen concept which currently has three restaurants, Sachi serving sushi, Koharu Japanese sandwiches and bentos and Yue Club serving dim sum. You can download the SAGA Kitchen app for 20% off your first five orders and your order can be from one or more restaurants. You can also place your order at the counter too. I've order twice, Sachi the first time and Sachi and Koharu the second time. Both times I had a 6:45 pickup, but the worker up front were nice both visits were nice and said the order would be out in about five minutes. I brought the food home both times, but they have eight tables outside should you want to enjoy your food there. We've enjoyed the food from both visits. I'm all for these shared kitchen concepts, which allows new restaurants get a start without the high start-up costs. Will be back again to support the restaurants at SAGA Kitchen. read more

Honestly wasn't too big of a fan. Had really high hopes because I heard a lot about this place on Instagram and TikTok but it fell pretty short. Ordered the Special Kaisen Don which is essentially their sushi special of the day where they fill a bowl of rice with their assorted sashimi. Entire meal costed around $40, which is pretty hefty, and for what I paid, I was expecting a lot more. Didn't feel like there was a lot of fish (was quite mushy as well...) and the portion of rice was also small. Might have better luck with some of their other plates but the Kaisen Don was definitely not it. read more

This place is incredible, don't overthink it, JUST GO! If you like sushi, this is absolutely some of the freshest, best sushi in the East Bay, and I didn't even mention yet that they have Omakase for $30! $30!!!! It's on par with what you'll pay $80 for in SF, haters might debate this but they are just assuming quality by price. OH, sushis not your jam? well don't worry because they have some gosh darn amazing ramen too. Oh its a little too hot for ramen (impossible) but if that really how you feel they have these insane Katsu sandwiches or dim sum. Hope you all enjoy, thank me later. read more

While the food was good overall and the restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere, the meals we received were subpar in two key ways. The noodles were under-seasoned in my opinion (completely subjective, I know) and the meals didn't seem entirely fresh-cooked. The meat and noodles specifically seemed like they had been prepped in bulk prior to cooking (no issue there) and not given enough time during cooking to soften and fully integrate into the dish (issue). That said, the service, atmosphere, and flavor of the food were still strong enough to warrant 4/5 stars and a recommendation for anyone interested in a quick lunch. read more
