Place seems to have really gone downhill as of late. I had family visiting from out of town, and wanted to take them here because in the past I've enjoyed the food and it's a relatively unique dining experience. We arrived around 7:00, placed an order for some curry & rice (which I have ordered before) and the tonkatsu meal. We waited over an hour for our food to be delivered, and when it came to the table I mentioned that and the server told us she'd just seen our order and that's why she made it? Previously when ordering the curry, it was served with a mound of rice on the side, some pickles, and some veggies. The picture on the menu shows carrots and broccoli, if you browse the Yelp photos you can find other pictures of this item that look as I have described. What we got was literally just a bowl of rice with plain curry in it and some chicken stacked on top... I asked the server why it was different than the picture and what we've had when ordering before, and she just said "the vegetables are just for the picture, there's nothing in the description saying it comes with those" and she walked away. I didn't want to bother arguing but like this is a trendy social media restaurant that literally has neon signs up telling people to take pics of the food (#CameraEatsFirst)... and what we served looked like a bowl of slop. It's golden curry and chicken karage, it tasted fine, just like when you make it out of the packet at home, so I guess it's pretty hard to mess that up It was honestly pretty rude and unexpected given that I've had such a good experiences here before, but judging by the recent reviews it's looking like this place is one that's better being skipped in the future read more

I enjoyed the dim sum items (Top item is definitely siu mai) the stars are all for dim sum lol. The sushi is average, an actual sushi restaurant is many times better. But if you just want a sushi fix and if this place is nearby I guess you can give it a shot as i saw in reviews that there are people that enjoyed it. The only complain I have off my experience from here is the steam paper beneath the dim sum. It comes apart so easily and sticks on to your food. read more

This place has really high ratings, so I think I was a little disappointed with my experience because I had higher expectations. Overall the experience was a strong meh. The inside is cute and clean. The server robot is pretty fun/cool. The food we got was mostly ok. Service by humans was friendly. Atmosphere is fun. We ordered sake wine, which was only offered by the full bottle and a little bit on the expensive side for $27. It was good albeit a little on the sweet side. Spicy tuna roll was ordered by my partner who said it was really good. We also ordered chili dumplings, which were ranked by the partner as just good. I had the vegetarian gyoza which were really good, and the vegan tonkatsu ramen. I was really excited about the ramen and opted to get it vs the vegan tantan mein. The tantan mein is noted to use beyond meat, so I wrongly presumed that tonkatsu ramen would also have a plant protein tonkatsu slab. Especially because, well, usually the pork is included. But when the ramen came, it was just broth and noodles, with a few bamboo shoots floating around and....a hard boiled egg. So, not only did the ramen not have the meat, it was lean on ingredients AND came with a non-vegan ingredient that wasn't indicated on the menu. I am ovo-lacto vegetarian so I wasn't bothered but vegans beware! Finally, everything took a really long time to get to us. The sushi came fairly quickly but the rest of the food slowly trickled out over the course of about an hour. It wasn't super busy so I'm not sure why it took so long. It wasn't a terrible experience but it did mean that when we wanted to order more food, we decided not to and to go somewhere else instead. Came here with two others on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. It is self-seating and has stations to get your own utensils and dump your leftovers after. This spot has outdoor and indoor seating and two entrances. You may order from your phone (after scanning QR), self order machine in the right building, or you can walk up to the counter in the main entrance. We tried a little bit of everything since there were different kinds of Asian cuisines all in one. I was the most skeptical about the dim sum, but it easily became my favorite. The shui mai is larger than most and was very meaty & tasty! I didn't care much for the Shanghai dumplings but the har gao was good too - thin skin katsu sandwich was overpowered by the sauce but was a lot to eat so we took those home. Sushi was fresh and beautifully displayed. Ramen was underwhelming but the egg was deliciously cooked and flavored. Fried tofu skin was solid and definitely generous on the shrimps inside. Shanghai bao, karaage, and lava yolk buns were just ok. Definitely want to return because it is such a cute spot with lots of Supreme, Murakami, Kaws decor. Wow, I've been ordering from Saga Kitchen since they opened, and my wife and I used to love the dim sum set. We ordered the same dim sum set tonight, and it was so bad that I feel compelled to write a review (I never write reviews). First off, it didn't come with what was advertised. It used to come with Shanghai Pan Fried buns, fried tofu skin, siu mai, har gow, Shanghai dumplings, and salted egg yolk buns. Today's order was missing tofu skin and Shanghai pan fried buns. All of the dim sum tasted like it was frozen and just came out of a microwave; it tasted WAY worse than Trader Joe's frozen dim sum. It appears that they subtituted some of the missing items (without telling us) with steamed dumplings, which were dry and flavorless, and pork buns which were too doughy and contained very little pork. The Siu Mai and har gow tasted fishy, and all of the dumplings were dry when they're supposed to be moist. They must have replaced their chef. I won't be eating there again to say the least - very disappointed. read more

Had the Pork Katsu Sando and California Roll. Went around 1pm and the order took 30 min. The sando was average and over priced at $16. California Roll was avg as well and was a little over priced at $8. Overall average and a little over priced. Maybe if the sandwich came with a side it would add more value. (4 next month) They said they'll be opening a sushi menu next month, so I'll be coming back to try that out. From Yue Club, I got the Dim Sum Set Meal. It comes with Har Gows, Black Truffle Siu Mai, Salted Egg Yolk Buns, Shanghai Pan Fried Buns, and Beef Chow Fun. All of it was so good. I was pleasantly surprised by the egg yolk buns because I let them get a bit cold, which usually those buns do not do well cold, but these definitely did. It was still delicious and oozy! From Wok Chi, I got the Hot and Sour Soup. This was delicious! Perfectly hot and perfectly sour. I've been searching for a good hot and sour soup and I believe I've found it here. From Koharu, I got the Kurobuta Katsu Sando and the Japanese Humburg. So originally, I ordered the Beef Katsu Sando instead of the Japanese Humburg but they were out and he suggested I try the Japanese Humburg. No regrets! Both of these dishes were so amazing, I wish I could have them every day. All of the items that I ordered from Saga Kitchen were amazing and the boxes they come in were so cute! Came here a few times. A couple on my own and the Yelp events they hosted. They were gracious enough to let us try a sampler of what they offered. So far I've really liked everything I've ordered. The food is 5 stars. The people in the shop are nice and you can play video games while you wait and even buy sneakers I think?? The only thing is the execution of their orders has been just a bit off. One time my order was wrong and didn't realize till I got home. It was fine the food they put in instead was still good. And the other time they didn't include soy sauce with the sushi I ordered, luckily I had a few soy sauce packets at home. I would just say double check make sure that the order is complete and there's nothing missing. Also they don't have a lot to offer for vegetarians, I asked my roomie if he wanted anything and he was like there's not much on this menu I can even get. The macarons they sell are delish read more

We ordered online for pick up this evening. It stated it would take 25 minutes for 4 things. We arrived two minutes early and was told it was not ready yet which was fine. After another 15 minutes I went back up and asked how much longer since it was now 13 minutes late. We were told it would take 5 more minutes. Another 15 minutes later it looked as though it was finally ready so I told them the name on the order again and I could see my name on the receipt of the bag but was told no wrong name. I proceeded to say my name is on the receipt on the bag you are holding and finally got my food 30 minutes after the time it was supposed to be ready. We went home and started to eat and come to find a scale in my maguro Don. This will be the last time we try saga more specifically sachi sushi. Definitely would not recommend. read more

alameda is so lucky to have a local gem like SAGA kitchen. not to throw out the, "i've lived in alameda since 19XX, and i remember when..." card, but i'm going to throw it out there anyway. places with fresh, high-quality sushi and asian food have been few and far between here, and when they do come along, they are quite special (thinking of places like kamakura). prices are a bit higher and portions a bit tighter than the other sushi places around the island, but you come here when you want quality. i think the fish is imported fresh from japan, and the chefs seem to have a passion/knowledge for the food they're preparing. it's also pretty cool that they offer a variety of other asian options to pick and choose from. atmosphere is very casual and unique--where else does a robot provide most of the service?! it's not 5-star dining, but it works if you want to enjoy your meal with no-fuss. i've also done delivery multiple times--just order a bit farther in advance. SAGA kitchen is helping to redefine the alameda food scene--high quality, casual, neighborhood food. i'm glad i'll have some better restaurant memories to share with the young locals :) read more

Keep in mind you order and pay off your phone, a robot brings your food and you have to buss your own table. I would reconsider tipping here. I ordered Xiao long bao, miso soup, salmon nigiri, and salted egg bun. This took an hour to come out who arrived about 15-20 minute after me were able to receive their food and finish it by the time I got my food. This review is for their vegan tonkotsu ramen, which is basically a big bowl of sad noodles. First off, the noodles were super soft and soggy and there's absolutely no chew to it. It's not pasta...no need to boil the heck out of it. They were also definitely not the ramen noodles I'm used to having at the multitude of ramen restaurants in South Bay. The broth was also flavorless; they would have done better to add just salt to water. The egg was soft boiled, but again flavor is so lacking that they probably didn't bother to marinate it enough. Came here because of the hype, but left a bit disappointed. First of all, there are 2 sections of the restaurant. No one explains where you go or what to do. No one even greets you. Turns out you just seat yourself and order from the QR code. The ordering process was difficult and confusing to say the least. You have to order with your phone, but reception is terrible. No one tells you there's wifi, so it took us about 5-10 mins to order online. The check out process requires you enter your name, email, phone, address, etc. Seriously... I just want to order my food. It also prompts you for a tip, even before anything is served. Weird and a bit off-putting. Eveything about this place is self-served. You get your own utensils, sauces, napkins, etc. A robot brings you your food, and you have to bus your own table afterwards. Not sure where the tip is going for service, but I hope the robot got it. Also, since reception is so poor at the location, I accidentally ordered of wontons 4 times because the cart wouldn't update my order at checkout. When food arrived and we saw 4 wonton orders, my GF told the person working we didn't order all this. I tried to pull up the receipt, but i wasn't getting any reception. The person walked to her computer pulled up our order and said... "Sorry, this is what you ordered." I explained, the reception is so bad here we couldn't update the cart, but no luck. I wish I could give this place a better review. They have a great variety of food selections, and for the most part everything is tasty. For me, what is lacking is the service. I have been here multiple times, and every time I come here my order takes 10-15 minutes longer than told. The most recent time I came, it was very hard to track down an employee to check on the status of my order, despite the restaurant being pretty empty and not very busy. I finally caught the attention of the sushi chef, who told me he saw my ramen being prepared and it would be another 5 minutes. Okay, no problem. However, although my ramen was ready in 5 minutes, the same sushi chef who talked to me before waited another 10 minutes to make the one roll in my order. So, all in all, my order was ready 15+ minutes after the estimated time, which was 45+ minutes after I initially placed my order. I try to be pretty understanding given the current times, but no one apologized for the tardiness or thanked me for waiting. Also very annoying that the very employee who told me it would be only a 5 minute wait personally caused it to be much longer than that. Not too sure if I'll be back any time soon. read more

Awful experience. First it took almost an hour to get our foods served. When we were waiting, they made us opened the door the whole time and it was freezing and windy at night. They said because the robot will come that way. There was only us in that room. Can they just open the door like 5mins before the robot come? We got sick next day because we were freezing and waiting an hour in the cold. My hand was numb by the time the foods arrived. The dim sum was cold and such an disappointment. XlB was not even all the way cooked we and the shell was harden. The ramen topping was ok but the soup was so bland that we thought they just made it from like a package you can get from store. Sandwich was also pretty much cold. Would not recommend!! When we almost finished, there was another party came in and they also complained about how cold it was. this place is a good option if you're looking to stop by and grab a sando, as they really are tasty. my friends and i thought this place was a cute place to eat at, as they're really well decorated. the pieces of sashimi were fresh and probably my favorite. however, i do think that there could be a little sign or notice to tell people to clean up after themselves. when we went to the next door dining area, we noticed trash on just about every table. we stayed for maybe 45 minutes and left but afterwards we all agreed it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been if flies weren't trying to get at our food every few seconds. it was a little off putting to see everyone else's leftovers just a few inches away from us too. i'm sorry if this comes off the wrong way, i really did enjoy the food, but i just wish people would know to not leave their mess for others to be eating around. read more
