Food is always delicious... very friendly staff... definitely recommend trying this hole in the wall family owned restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

Too salty and I am extremely thirsty after having their steak gyro. The bread is not soft enough and it was in room temperature, I thought it supposed to be warm before serving. The steak and their sauce in the gyro wrap were really bad, so salty, i felt like I could have to wash my kidneys after the meal. My friend ordered the combo, it's nothing special except they gave you two types of meats. The rice in the combo is white rice. Totally not worth it. By the way, the lady staff was not friendly too.

Quick and delicious. They have a great $10 plate that has rice, meat, veggies, and dressing. You can barely find any $10 meals anymore these days. Please help support local small business!

Love the food here, perfect stop close to the Newpark mall and 24 hour fitness. This is a hole in the wall place for Mediterranean food. Their menu is simple but all very tasty! The portion is hugh and comes with rice, salad and pita bread. I chose to have chicken plate and comes with half rice and half fries on the side with grill chicken, Service is great and fast.

Like other reviewers before me, I was intrigued by Saffron Grill since it was right next to Tastea and I thought, "I have a drink.....why not get food?" Good thing I did! RESTAURANT: It's a no-frill, straight to the point restaurant where your top priority should really be about the food you are going to get. The inside has 1 or 2 tables during COVID that you can sit down and eat at but I opted to do take-out instead. SERVICE: There's some complaints about service here but I thought the person helping me was very nice. There was only one person that day around lunch time and he rang me up as well as prepared the food for me. No issues on my end. FOOD: My favorite thing to get when I get "Gyro" related food is a Lamb dish. Unfortunately, Saffron Grill does not have a Lamb Gyro plate but they did tell me they have Lamb Kebabs. I was initially disappointed but I ended up just getting the #1 Beef Gyro Plate. Food was ready for take-out in 5-10 minutes and I drove home to see what it was like. When I opened the take-out box, I was very happy with both volume and quality of the food given. Lots of beef/steak pieces with salad, rice, and a large piece of bread. The dipping sauce for some reason mixed together reminds me of thousand island dressing but I thought it tasted good when dipped with the meat. The food was very satisfying and I really enjoyed my meal. I'm not sure if pricing is super competitive but I paid around $13-$14. I think it's on the pricey end but at least Saffron Grill gives you a lot of food as well as good-tasting food. CONCLUSION: I'll be back in the future when I'm around the area to try out more of their menu!

When seated after ordering, we were served with the signature Afghan bread with delicious spicy dipping sauce. The owner I presume also introduced us to two lovely dishes. The Potato Bolani is a traditional Afghan flatbread stuffed with a potato filling. The portion is generous, with a texture that's both chewy and crispy from the griddle. The savory filling is simple but satisfying, and it pairs especially well with the green spicy chutney, which adds a bright, tangy kick. My husband preferred it with yogurt, which nicely balanced the flavors. Best of all, it's cooked to order, so it arrives hot and fresh. While we were dining, we noticed several customers coming in to pick up bags of Bolani to go--a good sign that it's a popular favorite! The Shami Kabob, made with seasoned ground beef, is charbroiled and served with Afghan bread, rice, and salad. The kabob itself is tender, moist, and full of flavor, with hints of garlic and herbs in every bite. The restaurant also generously served firini dessert on the house. It's a silky, milky pudding delicately flavored with cardamom and topped with pistachios. Light and fragrant, it made a lovely ending to the meal. Overall, everything we tried was flavorful, fresh, and comforting. The Bolani was definitely a highlight, and the complimentary firini was a wonderful touch.

We came in on Saturday at 11:30 to an empty restaurant, but by noon it was packed. We ordered the mantu, bolani, a few kabobs, and the lamb shank challow. The appetizers were great - the mantu had a great flavor and felt very hearty. The leek and butternut squash felt homey and warm - our waitress said they were her favorite, and were so glad she gave us that recommendation! The leek paired nicely with the yogurt provided, as it was a little spicy and had an aroma pretty similar to chives. The squash bolani was slightly sweet, and almost felt like an in-between for dessert. Having both was a nice contrast. By far the murgh (chicken) kabob was our favorite skewer, as it was the juiciest meat, and quite tender. The table ranked the chaplee (ground meat, with a hint of spice) next in terms of flavor and texture, and teka (tri tip) was slightly more dry and bland compared to everything else. The lamb shank was quite tender but smaller than expected for the price; it still had a nice homey flavor though I prefer when restaurants provide more of that braised juice to go alongside the dish. I don't eat cilantro, so had requested there to be no cilantro in any dishes, but they said they couldn't remove it from the salad, so was a little sad about that. We also had to request for Overall, would highly recommend the chicken kabob and bolani - would love to come and try other appetizers too.

It's like a cross between a western style bbq joint and a middle eastern twist with its meats and food. Turns out, this place is mainly an Afghan restaurant! It's half eatery half a butcher shop for people to come and purchase fresh meats for some home cooking. In fact, I watched a lot of people coming in and ordering meats to go. I ordered their chili lamb kabob which was tender and juicy. It had lots of flavor from the spices but enough to where it wasn't overwhelming. I ordered it on top of a pillow of rice which was fluffy and buttery textured. It was delicious. There are sauce bottles to pair with the meats which is my favorite part. I really liked their white creamy yogurt sauce mixed with their red house chili sauce. It gave my lamb meat so much flavor and some heat. I loved my order and will definitely order two next time. I also want to try their steaks. They take their time grilling their meats so orders can take a short while. It's worth it for sure. No complaints here but I do wish they played some light music in the background for some ambiance. Things can be real quiet in here so it can be awkward dining in. Other than that, I really like this place and will be back for more.

My family and I, two adults and two young children, came here during Ramadan for iftaar. Before arriving, I specifically called ahead to ask whether we needed to come early because I understood restaurants can become very busy during iftaar time. I was told that arriving 10 to 15 minutes before iftaar would be perfectly fine and that our food would be ready around the time of breaking fast. Based on that reassurance, we came about 20 minutes before iftaar expecting a smooth experience. Instead, the moment we walked in, it felt like we were invisible. The restaurant was crowded but not chaotic. We sat down and waited while servers walked past us repeatedly without acknowledging us. Eventually, I had to flag someone down myself just to place an order. I even asked directly how long the food would take because we were fasting all day and had two small children with us. The server confidently assured us the food would arrive around iftaar time. That never happened. When iftaar finally arrived, all we received were dates and water. No appetizers, no main dishes, nothing. We continued waiting while table after table around us received their food. Meanwhile, our children became increasingly upset and hungry. Anyone with young kids knows that after a full day of fasting, asking them to wait another 20, 30, even 50 minutes is nearly impossible. Our kids were crying, exhausted, and confused as they watched other families eat while we sat there with empty plates. What made the situation worse was the complete lack of honesty and accountability. Every time we asked about our order, we were told, "It's coming soon." Then eventually the server disappeared entirely for nearly 20 minutes and avoided us altogether. A woman later approached us, but instead of apologizing or taking our concerns seriously, she became dismissive and defensive. By this point, nearly 50 minutes had passed since we ordered, and she still insisted we "shouldn't complain" (in Farsi) because the food would come "soon." That response was honestly more upsetting than the delay itself. A simple apology, honesty, or basic compassion toward a fasting family with small children would have gone a long way. We eventually left the restaurant feeling humiliated, disrespected, and deeply disappointed. What saddened me most is that this happened during Ramadan, a month centered around patience, generosity, hospitality, and good character. In Afghan culture and Islamic ethics, guests are supposed to be treated with dignity and care, especially during iftaar. Halal is not only about the food being permissible. Halal is also about honesty, fairness, respect, and how people are treated. Sadly, this restaurant failed in all of those areas. We will never return, and I cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for respectful service or a welcoming family environment.
