TLDR: Went for a friend's birthday lunch on a Sunday afternoon, and they were able to accommodate for various sized parties. They were a little disorganized, but the decor and vibes were very homey. Their portions are fairly large, and overall the food was pretty decent, although not all of the dishes were my cup of tea I will say. This was my first time having Afghanan cuisine, so take what I say here in my review with a grain of salt. I rounded up because the food was pretty tasty and filling, but wasn't super impressed by the overall experience. So, to me, flavor and quality of the food is more important than the overall experience with the staff and vibes of the space. I would have given a 3.5/5 if I could. Food: 4/5 A friend mentioned that this is his family's go to spot for some of the most authentic Afghan food, so this is what I am basing the rest of this review on. We ordered Triple Kabob Murgh, Teka and Chaplee Kabob, Quabili Pallow, Mantu, Aushak, Sabzi Challow, Kado Borani, and Doogh. The kabob meats were all seasoned differently and were very tender, but everything else had a very similar palate to each other. Everything was fairly tasty, and the lamb wasn't too gamey, which I appreciated. If you try the Doogh yogurt drink, know that it is sour and an acquired taste, my friends said it wasn't good until they ate some food along side it. Staff/Space: 3.5/5 The staff wasn't the most friendly nor did they really come to check on us. The guy just took the order and brought our order and that was the only real interactions we had with the staff. The space in general was super homey and very much set for cozy family vibes. There is a decent amount of space inside and outside to accommodate for various party sizes. There is only street parking, which is not super convenient.

Large portions, good flavor. Can be a little disorganized but very homey style. Even other patrons are very friendly. Charbroiled meats were fantastic. Must get. Perfect char, juicy meat, and great texture on the patty. I also really enjoyed the potato bolani. Crispy bread and creamy potato. Huge portion. What's not to love! Had free chutney at the table. The slow cooked lamb in the pallow was fall-off-the bone. However, not too much meat. Mantu was a skip for me. Meat inside was delicious and sauces and wrapper worked, but not special compared to other dishes, especially since lentils were a little undercooked. Doogh as a drink isn't up my alley, but paired with the heavy meat dishes well.

There weren't many vegetarian options, but the bolani was good. The rice dish I ordered was a bit too garlicky for my taste, and I didn't love the combination of spices and ingredients with the butternut squash. That said, the atmosphere was lovely and the staff was great -- it just wasn't a personal favorite for me.

Had a girls' date here, and it was my first time having authentic Afghan food. Wow!!! I was so blown away. Afghan food is highly underrated and not talked about enough. The service was excellent, but the food was incredible, and to be told that it was better before (the establishment is under new management), I can't imagine it being better. Actually, I've had home-cooked meals since, and yes, it can be better, haha, but that's not to take anything away from this restaurant. What a Gem, and an honor to have sat in the same restaurant as Andrew Zimmern! The restaurant lived up to its authentic culture design and was pleasant. We ordered several dishes! I wanted to try them all haha! Triple Kabob: Murgh, Teka and Chaplee Kabob 10/10 Potato Bolani / Leek Bolani 10/10 Bread 100/10 Mantu 10/10 Shor Nakhod 100/10 my favorite soooo good! Everything was delicious! We've gotten takeout a few times and it's also been just as good!

Got the biggest potato bolani I had ever seen. The kabob, rice, and eggplant were all so yummy! Our server was chill. The outdoor seating is so lovely!

LAMB REDO When I originally wrote a review for this place I mistook it for the kabob house at the next corner so I deleted this review. About months ago I ate here for lunch with my family. I love lamb because I don't eat it at home often. When the opportunity came to order lamb kabob here I will order it. My sister ordered bolani as a starter. I've ordered bolani at the kabob house at the corner in the past. I remembered the bolani at the kabob house was oily. The bolani my sister ordered was wasn't oily but toasty. I enjoyed the bolani. When I ate the lamb kabob something didn't taste right. Initially due to the texture I thought the lamb was spoiled. Then after few more bites the problem wasn't the lamb but the marinade seasoning, which had a pasty taste. The coating from the marinade was sticky. Due to the texture I had a difficult time finishing the lamb kabob. Due to the dish I ordered I wasn't sure If I would go back to eat at De Afghanan Cuisine anytime soon. My mom wanted to eat here again. I came back to De Afghanan Cuisine this past Sunday for lunch. I knew I wasn't going to order kabobs as I wanted to try something new. I looked at the items for the rice specialties section of the menu. Both items included lamb. One item quabili pallow included raisins and I don't like raisins. The second item was sabzi challow. I didn't know what to except. When I first tasted the sabzi challow it made up for the lamb kabob I ordered about three months ago. The lamb was moist yet not gamey. The lamb submerged in spinach reminds me of the Hawaiian dish lau lau, which is chunks of meat wrapped in ti leaves and steamed. Unlike the lamb kabob I can order the sabzi challow with lamb again when I come back here to eat. Even though this place is known for its kabob the sabzi challow with lamb is the best dish at De Afghanan Cuisine. I'm glad about my mom's craving for kabobs that I ate at De Afghanan Cuisine for another time. If I didn't my rating would've been lower.

Needed a vegan dish for a Friday no meat lent gathering & was craving Bolani. First time ordering here and it was was so so. -Yelp app ordering no # to call but ordering on the app was so convenient. -Parked on peralta at a neighboring business lot since Fremont blvd is hard to find street , was a quick pick up so I hope they didn't mind - Cozy restaurant, handful of seats inside with a very warm fireplace blazing inside, was a rainy day so very inviting, few outdoor tables available also - pick up took time as waited for someone to help me then when employee was getting my order ready, he got a phone order, had me wait while he took Order then hand me my order to go -Bolani tasted ok, I chose leeks but did not see potatoes which I thought was standard. Overall, would possible come back again to dine in but will be on the hunt for another place that makes Bolani

This place is awesome. Their Kabobs are delicious, I recommend the combination to try different meats. The Bolani with Leek was wonderful, and I also liked their Sabzi spinach dish. Food was excellent, service was efficient. Clean and cozy inside, great for small groups. Parking and GPS maps can be a little confusing. There is parking off street behind the restaurant.

The food here is always amazing!! Staff is very friendly. The inside is small and cozy but there is outdoor seating as well. I ordered the triple skewer plate which comes with rice and cucumber salad - sooo delish! Its even better when you add the sour cream

First, I liked the building and art throughout. It was very cultural, and it seemed to be very popular. The ambiance was casual. The folks both in the restaurant and running it are super nice. We were offered to try an item by a table next to ours, for example. As for the food, you need to know that the bolani are a favorite that are quite nicely spiced. They do go very very light on spices, especially salt. The deserts were outstanding. The Doogh was similar to the Indian chaas. We will be back to try again.

Lamb kabob...meh. It was dry and a bit overcooked.
    Xuan P.

Hadn't been here in a long time. Ordered the lamb kabob (should have ordered the beef kabob). The lamb kabob was just okay, barely any seasoning on the lamb, it was dry and a bit overcooked. I thought there would be some kind of sauce besides the tomato relish but they only pointed to the green sauce on the table. So disappointed.

Does this place have take out? I tried calling and no one picks up

Yes, I placed a pickup order on September 2024

Is this place halal? I don't see any certifications for it being halal?

There is now a large sign at their sister store next door stating it is halal from Harris Ranch. The owner confirmed to me that they serve only halal meat at all their locations.

    Is indoor dining available?

If Alameda County allows it I am sure they will do limited indoor dining.

What are the vegetarian or vegan options? Having trouble opening their menu online..... Is the veg option worth a visit specifically or is it more of an accommodation...... Thanks much Yelpers

There are certainly vegetarian options, not sure about vegan.

Plus, they seem to have better availability when you order different types of bolani. The staff here are really nice, even though they may not talk much. The restaurant is small but enough room for few families. The owner and staff are really nice, they offered us a complementary butternut sauash bolani for us to try when we normally take potato bolani. We got variety of dishes like chicken/chapli, beef/chicken, beef/chapli etc. we were happy to see salaam Cola instead of coke/pepsi etc. the bolani was amazing and very fresh and crispy which is nicer than a softer texture. The rice came brown seasoned, but it was a bit lighter in color and flavor, would suggest try to make it more seasoned/heavier on flavor. The chapli was really good and had a peshawri like taste and texture. The chicken today pieces were large in size and color was just right. For some reason the chicken flavor didnt get all the way through. The ambiance was nice and it is a good addition to fremonts Afghan restaurants

This time, my camera ate before I did, ha! Here is a breakdown of what we ordered on this visit: 1. Steamed Chicken Momo: These were perfectly moist with an adequate, well-seasoned filling. Plus, their signature orange sauce never disappoints! 2. Mixed Fried Rice: This came loaded with eggs, chicken, and veggies. Unlike some places where the veggies feel like an afterthought, these tasted fresh. The portion size was great, flavorful and more than enough for two people. 3. Chicken Sizzler: There is nothing like hearing that loud sizzling sound when food is brought to your table! I initially expected it to come with fries and veggies, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it served on top of a huge bed of noodles. It was incredibly tasty. My only minor critique is that the menu just lists the name of the dish without a description. While I could have asked, it would be helpful if the menu explained what the sizzler entails, especially since their other menu items have descriptions. The Perks & Ambiance: Free Tea: A wonderful touch! They offer free, unlimited aromatic hot tea for dine-in customers, served in cute little espresso cups. Service & Seating: There is plenty of seating available. The service is prompt, though you might occasionally need to wave them over to get their attention, but it's definitely not a dealbreaker. Parking & Access Tip: There is ample parking in the complex, but getting to it can be a bit tricky right now due to the ongoing roadwork on Fremont Blvd. From the street, it almost looks like the restaurants in this plaza might be closed, but don't be fooled; they are absolutely up, running, and well worth the visit!

This is clearly something the owner does because a few reviews below someone else mentioned her review was flagged and taken down. THE OWNER/MANAGER IS NOT A HONEST PERSON. The owner of this establishment contacted Yelp to remove my original review, claiming my experience was not legitimate. I am reposting my review with screenshots showing that | placed an online pickup order and visited the restaurant. The photos are timestamped from 2/3/2026. Transparency matters, and attempting to discredit a real customer experience instead of addressing it reflects poorly on the business. Flagged Content: Order: Chicken Shawarma Plate Total: $17.55 Location: 217 W Winton Ave, Haywara, CA 94544 I am extremely disappointed with this purchase. The food was not good at all. The chicken was clearly not fresh--it tasted old and seemed like it had been reheated in the microwave, possibly from a day or two earlier. The side dish with garbanzo beans also tasted old. The pita bread was cold and not even warmed, which shows a lack of care. The service was just as bad. When I arrived, the front door was locked even though the restaurant states it opens at 11:00 AM. I arrived around 12:35 PM. A gentleman eventually came to open the door. When I told him my name and that I was there for a pickup order, he seemed completely confused. A young lady then stepped in and asked about my order, and I had to show her proof that I placed it online. Apparently, my order was not in their system despite my confirmation. She told me my food would be ready in three minutes. I was on my lunch break, and there was no apology for the door being locked or for my order not being ready. I ordered ahead specifically because I was on a time limit. The fact that it was ready in "three minutes" made it very clear that the food was reheated rather than freshly made. The ambiance was also unpleasant. The restaurant has large chandeliers trying to appear elegant, but it doesn't work. Chairs were stacked on top of tables, so dining in wasn't even an option. There was also a strong smell of floor cleaner throughout the restaurant, as if they were trying to cover up another odor. Overall, I do not recommend this place. The food quality, service, and overall experience were very disappointing. This was a waste of money. I ended up throwing the food away because I was worried about food poisoning and didn't have time to return it since I was on my lunch break. I will not be coming back.
