This order is considered 2 skewer of the Shami Kabob...super small portions at this location...meat is super thin and dry The original Fremont location is still my favorite. If you get the chance, go to that location instead!

Nice to see an authentic and casual Afghan joint in the Fremont area! It was a quiet Tuesday night but this place was quite packed. Nice cozy aesthetics on the inside with traditional furniture. Service was good and they were able to provide items that weren't explicitly on the menu as well. The meats were cooked very nicely, and their rice also tasted like a lot of care was put into cooking it. I think the highlight is definitely all of their desserts though! Especially the Sheer Chai (Afghan milk tea) - I would've drank 10 if I had the stomach space!

Wow the food here is excellent! The shami kabob was the best kabob I have ever had! The spices and tenderness of the kabob yum! Lamb chops were so tender, melt in your mouth but crispy on the outside. This place is actually authentic, the flavors and food are the best. All meat is halal. Customer service is also great, employees are very kind and friendly. They check to make sure everything is okay. I would highly recommend this place. Placing this on the list of favorite halal restaurants.

We got chicken kebab and chicken koorma. The plates came with rice, side of chickpeas, afghan bread and cucumber+tomato salad. What worked: The chicken kebabs and the chicken in the koorma were delectably amazing. Incredibly soft, beautifully cooked and well flavored. I highly recommend getting their chicken kebabs. The rice was delicious as well, separate grains and again perfectly cooked. They were like pearls. What did not work: The chickpeas came with some very sour watery gravy which also had some bits of potato in it. It was too tart for my personal liking. Having eaten some stellar korma in the past, I was forced to compare it with their take on this iconic dish which unfortunately fell short. It was too tomatoey and there was no richness or finesse in the gravy. The cucumber and tomato salad was limp.

Fremont has all the good Afghan restaurants, this Santa Clara outpost was just as good. The ambiance was casual, you order at the front counter and they will bring you the food. Got the usual items: bolani, Korma Chicken, qabili palau. All were excellent: bolani was piping hot and aromatic with delish fillings, Korma chicken with the addictive sauce, qabili palau lamb was juicy, falls off the bone and not gamey at all.

Very much underrated, although the place look a bit outdated compare to most other restaurants, the food is very delicious, the meat I ordered was done on point, it was hot enough to taste without buring my mouth and the season was fantastic.

Small hole in the wall kinda restaurant. Great taste. Very tender chicken perfectly spiced and grilled. Chickpea sauce needs a special mention.

Everything was delicious and fulfilling and I was surprised on the size of the skewers and pieces of meat and shrimp. They definitely don't skimp out and give a good amount of protein. I enjoyed dipping my meats in this green sauce that was provided on our table--it added a nice spicy kick to my overall meal. The rice was seasoned well, meat was cooked to a perfect medium and wasn't overcooked, chicken wasn't dry, shrimp was great too, and the bread was nice and soft. As for the appetizer, I'm not sure what everything was, but everything on that plate was so good. I'm not a fan of lamb, but the items on the chef's platter were good and didn't have that lamb aroma and taste--I wouldn't even think it was lamb lol. But the one that stood out to me the most was the eggplant which was prepared well and I enjoyed the meat sauce that was drenched on top. This restaurant had a warm environment--white table, nice candlelit dinner, and fast service. Great for a date night or family dinner.

Indeed it was one of the best Middle Eastern food I've had in the bay area. Whoever's in the kitchen knows how to make kebab right. Kudos to them! My salmon kebab was scrumptious. The charcoal-grilled exterior and moist interior proved it was done right. The only complaint was plate didn't come with salad. Service however was problematic. They never checked on us. It was not respectful enough to women which reflected their gender-inequality $@#tty culture. The male staff served water to me the last while my son and I were sitting next to each other waiting for our guests. This staff served water to him first, then poured to the rest of the empty glasses in counter-clockwise until he got to me. You always serve ladies first. I unusually didn't say "thank you." for him to catch my displeasure and couldn't help have "misogynist-jack@#$" loom over my head. He probably sensed my irritating vibe, so in the next round of encounter, he had me order the food first, intentionally. Remember my boy, be a real man, chivalry is not dead, ladies first. I value my worth more than your food. Won't return.

Not going to lie, I was kinda iffy because of the mixed reviews. But, if you skim through, most of the negative ones are for the buffet which is no longer offered. Welp, you're never going to know unless you try it yourself and I'm glad I did! Medina Kebab House is open for takeout, delivery (3rd party apps), indoor dining, and dog-friendly outdoor dining. Yelp hours are wrong; they open at 11:30 am, not 11 am. But, the owner (one man show) was kind enough to take our order when we arrived at 11:20 am. F O O D * Chapli Kabab Platter: Minced Beef Patties w/ basmati rice, salad ($15.49): https://bit.ly/3Hc7cS5 The chapli kebabs were delicious - crispy seared crust and well-spiced meat. The tomato in the middle helped the patties retain some moisture. The white basmati had perfectly separated grains with a bite to it. The sumac dusted salad (chopped romaine, tomatoes, and red onions) provided some freshness. I wish there was Afghan cilantro chutney for punchy heat. The accompanying yogurt sauce (too watery) and hot sauce (not spicy) were underwhelming. * Qabili Palau: Afghan Rice w/ lamb shank, carrots, raisins, salad ($20.79): https://bit.ly/3p5H2dD ***National dish of Afghanistan The thiccc and chonky braised lamb shank was so meaty and fork tender: https://bit.ly/3JLBkW7. The brown basmati rice was flavorful from soaking up the broth. The carrots and raisins added sweetness. All that missing was the golden almonds for crunch. Generous portions; had enough leftovers for another meal. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly, and gracious owner. I got my usual Beef Koobideh (it was okay, a little bland compared to the persian places I have tried in Los Angeles, NJ, FL, etc...). The beef koobideh was larger than most other places and they gave a lot of rice too (which I like). My son got the Chicken Koobideh, he also thought it was okay... he was indifferent. I tasted a bite of it, it was also less flavorful than I would usually expect. My wife got the Jewel Polo with Steamed Chicken. She was the one with a not happy review, she was telling me that it was unlike any place she had ever tried and was like "All they did was lightly boil the chicken and put it in the tray". I didn't try it because that is not my dish, I only stick with Beef Koobideh anywhere I go. The people working here seemed very friendly, the customers were also very friendly since they seemed to know the workers and helped me flag down the main guy for a question. My review isn't to discourage anyone from this place. It just didn't hit the spot for my wife so I won't be able to give it a second try. As a south asian person, we like our food with lots of flavor and lots of spices... so you might find this place perfect for your palate. My wife kinda forced my hand on the topic, I would not beat them up as harshly (I ate all of my Beef koobideh and enjoyed it, but even left to my own opinion... I'd go back to my usual place for a familiar flavor). I only took one star off because of the feedback from my wife.

All the while smiling:) I ordered via yelp because we were starving and easily this restaurant has their menu in organized and visually appealing. Their descriptions and the variety of selections and customizations on point. My husband said he wasn't hungry but then saw the food and we scarfed it all down. He gave it 8.5 and said would come back. I ordered pickled vegetables which I thought was going to be onions but I think it's actually cabbage. Not my preference so I will take that home to the parents. Did order yogurt dip- husband was a fan. The chicken thigh and filet were so tender. I had put a note on the order for medium rare. I wouldn't call that medium rare but it was tender nonetheless. I'm sad I had to pay extra for a half of a Roma tomato, salad and lavash- the lavash I saw it in the add-ons menu so I assumed it wasn't in there. Ended up with so much lavash. No need to buy extra. The entire thing came up to $63-ish. The food was 4/5 but service was 5/5! I know this economy has everyone struggling. This was probably the most I have spent on Mediterranean food. I would have expected $45-$50. We just came back from Turkey so this would have costed us $15-$20 USD. Portions for rice and meat were good though! All in all- would come back!
