Yas has AMAZING Persian food! Decided to order this last minute for a family party. We had the koobideh, ground chicken, and lamb skewers... and all of them were 10/10. The vegetables and yogurt complimented everything perfectly. Everyone (even our young kids) loved everything we had ordered. I came for a $145 Sunday lunch for 4 here. Inside the place has some traditional Persian decor as well as what looks like a surprisingly full bar. It's definitely a time capsule and hasn't been renovated in decades - you can tell by the door, paint, and nearly inaccessible tiny bathrooms. The restaurant itself is quite small, and from what I saw they only had one server/hostess working. We started with tahdeeg (crispy rice) with half fesenjoon (walnut pomegranate stew) have ghormeh sabzi (herb lamb stew). The fesenjoon was good and the rice was suitably crispy, the ghormeh sabzi was okay. It had some meat that was very dried out. For entrees we had grilled chicken breast chunks, barg (thin sliced filet mignon), and koobideh (ground beef). For me the koobideh was quite good, rich and with a nicely charred exterior. The barg had no crust at all and was more like steamed meat. I didn't like it much. The grilled chicken breast had a good flavor but was a bit dry, as chicken breast tends to be. Which is why I didn't want to order it. But someone at the table insisted. Live and learn. The meats came with a good amount of rice, a few charred tomatoes, and surprisingly a few charred jalapeños. I'm surprised at this because Persian food never includes anything spicy, that's kind of a distinctive aspect of it. I also ordered a doogh (yogurt drink) and was a bit disappointed they brought out a store bought bottled one. I could buy these myself if I wanted, I was expecting a Persian restaurant would make it in house. Also, while the server was very nice, the food does come fairly slowly. It took a long time to place our order, it took a long time for the appetizer to come, then a long time (like 20+ minutes) for the entrees. This was definitely annoyingly long. There were only two other tables there so the waits don't exactly seem... justified. Even if the price was a lot more reasonable I would still say the food is just okay. Maybe if we had ordered just what I want and skipped the appetizer and drinks it would have been better. They take credit cards and the lot outside is decently sized. read more

The food is pretty good. But the service was terrible. They are simply accepting too many online orders and have no capacity to serve customers already seated. It took 10 minutes to get soda, 20 minutes for appetizers and over an hour for the main dishes. The waitress had all kinds of excuses: we got large orders, it's holiday, you ordered lamb, etc. Basic decency says that you should at least warn about the significant delays and let diners decide if they still want to eat there. I guess these guys are too greedy for decency. Despite the good food, I recommend avoiding unless you are ok waiting over an hour. read more

We met up with friends for dinner at Yas Restaurant. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall along Saratoga Ave, near Amato's Cheesesteak. The parking can be tough during peak lunch hours. AMBIENCE: As you are facing the restaurant, the door on the right is the entrance to the restaurant. The interior is simply decorated and can hold a few large parties of 8. Though, they are setup and arranged for 2-4 people. SERVICE: The service was friendly. Though they seemed to be very busy with takeout orders on this particular weeknight, so dine-in customers did not get much attention. It was a good 10 minutes before we even were served any water. Unfortunately, we had a long wait for our food as well and our friend asked several times for a refill of hot water but it never came. They did impose the 20% tip on our check because we had a party of 7 people. We are ok with that restaurant standard but the dine-in service was lacking. FOOD: Complimentary lavash & butter. Yas Special (for 2): A combination of 3 kabobs: chicken, filet, and ground beef, with rice and tomatoes. The koobideh was tender, juicy, yet light in flavor. It was my favorite (4/5). The filet was tender and also light on seasoning (3.5/5). Unfortunately the chicken thigh was dry - very dry. At first I thought I was eating a chicken breast, but she confirmed it was a "chicken thigh" (2/5). The basamati rice which I added surmac and a little butter was delicious. The roasted and charred tomatoes were good. Our friends ordered the following dishes... Koobideh & Vegetables (No Rice). Yas Special (chicken & koobideh). Served with basamati rice. Lamb Kabob. Served with basamati rice (3/5). The lamb was tender and not gamey. But quite pricey for only 1 small skewer! Gheymeh Vegetarian Mushroom & Basamati Rice: stew made of eggplant, yellow split peas, tomato sauce and mushrooms, cooked with their special spices and served with basamati rice. Filet Mignon. We came here with high expectations, but the experience was mixed. The wait was insanely long although the restaurant wasn't very slow. What was quite frustrating is that several people who arrived after us were served before we were with little to no communication... It seemed like there was only one server working. While she was really nice and polite, she also appeared very overwhelmed. This likely contributed to the delays, but better staffing and clearer communication would've helped. The food was just okay. It's not bad, but not memorable enough to make up for the wait. We also noticed that the utensils weren't properly cleaned, which was a big turnoff... Delicious Persian food. A little pricey but I think the food quality is worth it and the portions are generous so my family of 4 only usually orders 3 dishes and has leftovers. Our favorites are the Kashk badejeman (grilled pureed eggplant), the chicken kebabs, and the ground beef Kebab. If you get the plates with rice, the rice is delicious as it comes with saffron rice and is seasoned very well (not sure if they add butter or what but its so yummy). We had a very juicy koobideh here. The shish kabob was also delicious but smaller than expected. Ash reshteh was more like a bean soup and less like what you'd expect from ash. Located in the plaza with Amato's philly cheesesteak, a weed dispensary, liquor store ... it's not in the greatest environment but plenty of parking. 5/5 Koobideh kabob - My favorite dish. Very flavorful, cooked well. The jalepeno that comes with it is NO JOKE. Super spicy. Beware! 5/5 Shirin Polo Chicken - SO GOOD. Loved the orange peels and nuts in the rice. Chicken was super juicy and flavorful. Husband's favorite dish. 4/5 Ghormeh Sabzi - Only like 2 pieces of beef in the stew and it crumbled in my mouth. I liked the stew itself, though. 4/5 Filet mignon kabob - The meat came very thin, I thought it would come cubed and medium rare. Wasn't as tender as I'd like. I asked to make sure there was no dairy in the dishes and the waitress was attentive to confirm they use oil to cook the meat. One of the better Persian restaurants around. The grilled vegetables were decent too, but overall, the flavor profile fell short. For a place with such a promising menu, I was surprised by how bland most of the food tasted. The rice, unfortunately, was overly oily to the point that it became mushy, and a few pieces that fell on my lap left noticeable oil stains on my clothes. Definitely not ideal. While it wasn't a bad experience, it was a bit underwhelming. I'd consider coming back if their seasoning methods improved. Right now, it feels like it has potential but needs refinement. read more

Not sure where to start. Came in with 4-5 tables that were seated. Not a crowded place. There is only 1 server. Took forever to take our order. A simple hummus appetizer took them 15 min to serve after reminding them. Hummus was bad, no taste and bland. Then came the food. Almost a full 50 min later thankfully the food was decent. This restaurant used to be very good. We have been dinning there since 1974. However, in the past year the quality of service has been going down rapidly. The last 4 visits were not good, and the last visit was the worst. We reserved our visit for 4 for a table and after waiting on our table for 1 hour 15 minutes the food was not ready. Furthermore, a couple who arrived after us, received their meal while we are still waiting. In addition, the waitress said that for the request of additional butter we will be charged extra. Thus, we have decided to leave the restaurant, not dinning there, while leaving a tip of $20.00 for the waitress. We are not going to dine in this restaurant, until we find out that there is a management change. read more

The place seems nice, parking is limited. I came in today for the first time, I usually go to the place closer to the freeway (but wanted to try this place to see if I can find something different). I got my usual Beef Koobideh (it was okay, a little bland compared to the persian places I have tried in Los Angeles, NJ, FL, etc...). The beef koobideh was larger than most other places and they gave a lot of rice too (which I like). My son got the Chicken Koobideh, he also thought it was okay... he was indifferent. I tasted a bite of it, it was also less flavorful than I would usually expect. My wife got the Jewel Polo with Steamed Chicken. She was the one with a not happy review, she was telling me that it was unlike any place she had ever tried and was like "All they did was lightly boil the chicken and put it in the tray". I didn't try it because that is not my dish, I only stick with Beef Koobideh anywhere I go. The people working here seemed very friendly, the customers were also very friendly since they seemed to know the workers and helped me flag down the main guy for a question. My review isn't to discourage anyone from this place. It just didn't hit the spot for my wife so I won't be able to give it a second try. As a south asian person, we like our food with lots of flavor and lots of spices... so you might find this place perfect for your palate. My wife kinda forced my hand on the topic, I would not beat them up as harshly (I ate all of my Beef koobideh and enjoyed it, but even left to my own opinion... I received a text that it would be ready early at 6:16. I live close so I excitedly went to get it. I arrived at 6:20. When I walked in, the place was mostly empty, just one table with a couple women. One guy waiting for an order. I gave the lady my name and she said "a couple mins". After 10 mins... I ask if it's ready and she said "5 more mins" After another 10 mins... she comes out with the food for the other guy waiting. I ask again and she says "not yet". I start getting annoyed and she says because one of my dishes has lamb, that takes longer. I said I ordered an hour ago! I asked why the DoorDash app said it was ready at 6:16 then. She said it was a problem with the app...?! I finally got my food at 6:45... 25 mins of waiting. I asked if there was any compensation for the delay. She didn't even say a thing. Just handed me my food. And the food... expensive with not a lot of flavor! So disappointing. I will NOT be coming back. I'm fine with a little waiting... I'm not an entitled person. I just wanted some empathy or ownership that they made a mistake on their end with timing. The woman at the restaurant was cold. Not how to run a business! Doordash is higher (of course). Overall: This was a go-to restaurant for us before/during and after the pandemic. If you see the online menus the wraps are spelled "rap". Pretty sure the servers don't bust a rhyme, but I like to imagine what the Chicken Thigh Rap would sound like.
