Basamati Rice
Lloyd C.

We met up with friends for dinner at Yas Restaurant. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall along Saratoga Ave, near Amato's Cheesesteak. The parking can be tough during peak lunch hours. AMBIENCE: As you are facing the restaurant, the door on the right is the entrance to the restaurant. The interior is simply decorated and can hold a few large parties of 8. Though, they are setup and arranged for 2-4 people. SERVICE: The service was friendly. Though they seemed to be very busy with takeout orders on this particular weeknight, so dine-in customers did not get much attention. It was a good 10 minutes before we even were served any water. Unfortunately, we had a long wait for our food as well and our friend asked several times for a refill of hot water but it never came. They did impose the 20% tip on our check because we had a party of 7 people. We are ok with that restaurant standard but the dine-in service was lacking. FOOD: Complimentary lavash & butter. Yas Special (for 2): A combination of 3 kabobs: chicken, filet, and ground beef, with rice and tomatoes. The koobideh was tender, juicy, yet light in flavor. It was my favorite (4/5). The filet was tender and also light on seasoning (3.5/5). Unfortunately the chicken thigh was dry - very dry. At first I thought I was eating a chicken breast, but she confirmed it was a "chicken thigh" (2/5). The basamati rice which I added surmac and a little butter was delicious. The roasted and charred tomatoes were good. Our friends ordered the following dishes... Koobideh & Vegetables (No Rice). Yas Special (chicken & koobideh). Served with basamati rice. Lamb Kabob. Served with basamati rice (3/5). The lamb was tender and not gamey. But quite pricey for only 1 small skewer! Gheymeh Vegetarian Mushroom & Basamati Rice: stew made of eggplant, yellow split peas, tomato sauce and mushrooms, cooked with their special spices and served with basamati rice. Filet Mignon. Served with basamati rice. Some dishes were good and hit the mark. Other dishes were a bit of a letdown. It is a quiet place to enjoy a meal with friends without being disturbed.

Chicken thigh and Kashk badejeman

Delicious Persian food. A little pricey but I think the food quality is worth it and the portions are generous so my family of 4 only usually orders 3 dishes and has leftovers. Our favorites are the Kashk badejeman (grilled pureed eggplant), the chicken kebabs, and the ground beef Kebab. If you get the plates with rice, the rice is delicious as it comes with saffron rice and is seasoned very well (not sure if they add butter or what but its so yummy). They give a generous serving of complimentary lavash (thin flat bread) that comes with butter that is perfect to eat everything with.

Fool me once , shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. The waiting time for the food is incredible long, for standard dishes - koobideh and white rice.. you're looking at 30 mins-1 hour minimum no matter how empty the restaurant is. Staff literally ignores you... no matter if you make eye contact, or flag them down. We sat down a party of 3 at a table or 4 and the host literally removed my place mat , plate, and utensils from right in front of me... instead of grabbing the setup from the empty seat.. wtf? Appetizer of yogurt took 30 mins to be handed to us. Ridiculous. Sticking with taste of Persia, or Negeen.

Koobideh with albaloo polo; shish kabob; Ash Reshte
Leyla H.

We had a very juicy koobideh here. The shish kabob was also delicious but smaller than expected. Ash reshteh was more like a bean soup and less like what you'd expect from ash. The service was just a bit slow for the three or four tables they were serving then. We enjoyed the overall ambiance and liked the friendly staff. We will certainly go back.

Friendly but poor service. Waited about 8 minutes before anyone seated me then waited while the only staff helped b the person behind me. About 15 minutes before I was brought a menu and over 20 water was brought. I walked outside to retrieve my own water bottle. food was meh. I remember coming here over 5 years ago and the food was great. filet was tender but dry and over cooked, but maybe that's their new recipe. the food looks good but there taste is meh. I sadly would not recommend when there are so many other options in the area.

I am new to the area and stumbled on this gem. I feel like they opened their home kitchen to the public! Excellent Food! Highly Recommended.

They are located in a little strip mall on Alma Ave a few doors down from The Giving Pie. The parking lot is not huge but it we were able to find parking with no problem. The inside is nicely decorated with pictures of famous places in Greece. It's not huge inside but cozy with several tables for inside seating as well as a patio outside for outdoor seating. You can scan the QR code at your table or order at the front counter. We ordered from the front counter. We ordered the highly recommended Mousaka, the 3 piece plate with a side of green Greek salad. We chose the chicken skewer, pork skewer, and bifteki for our 3 meat choices as well as an order of Spanikopita. Our food was delivered to our table promptly. I grew up eating my Mom's Mousaka and I've eaten it in Athens, Naxos and Santorini. Let me tell you, their Mousaka was excellent. The eggplant, potato, meat filling and béchamel on the top were perfect. It's definitely a must try. The three skewers of meat were so flavorful and juicy. Both my husband and I loved it!! The pita bread it came with so warm and soft. The Spanikopita was fresh and hot. Delicious flaky phyllo dough with a savory spinach interior. The salads that came with each dish were also wonderful. Their feta on the top was so good and I loved the Kalamata olives. Customer service here was great. The young lady that helped us when we ordered was very friendly and helpful. It started getting busy inside while we were eating and I can see why. This is delicious homemade Greek food made from the heart. We will be coming here more often, now that we know about this place. There are many other things we are looking forward to trying.

She told him "okay, hold on" and made him wait almost 10 minutes. She ends up giving the order to the wrong person, and when confronted about it, she wasn't apologetic at all. Her excuse? "I didn't hear what he said, that's why I said to hang on." There was another older woman on expo floor who was extremely rude too. After telling her they gave my order to the wrong person, she looked at the other girl and said "you deal with it" and proceeded to ignore us. She also had the audacity to look at me and say "well we didn't do it on purpose." Again, NOT APOLOGETIC AT ALL nor did they take any accountability for their mistake. Neither of them apologized at all or offered to make things right. They completely ignored us and didn't care that they made a mistake. They had no idea what they were doing on expo. They were mixing up orders and getting confused when packing the containers of food. No matter how good the food may be, the extremely rude service and lack of attention to detail prevents me from ever returning here. If you ever order to go, whether it's in person/over the phone/online pick up, MAKE SURE you have the right order before you leave; if you don't get the right order, they won't care to make it right or acknowledge their mistake in the slightest.

You can't make reservations in the evening, but we were able to get a seat after waiting for 20 or so minutes on a Friday evening. We had a dog with us, and they were able to find us a table in the patio out back. They have patio seating in the front, seating in the restaurant proper, and then more seating in the back patio. The ambiance inside looked really nice, but they didn't want our dog (we don't claim ESA) in the main restaurant. The patio out back was also nice, with a water fountain. Our dog was able to sit under the table and take a nap. The restaurant is BUSY, so the crowd volume was loud, but we could still have a conversation. Behind me was another table and I could hear pretty much their whole conversation. The food was all very good. We did family-style, where we shared all the dishes amongst us. I think the roast chicken might be harder to share, because you have to carve it.

I came into the restaurant asking how long my order would take, she said 10 minutes. Although there were chairs and tables under an eave, I chose to go to the car. Faviola brought the food to me and it was sprinkling outside! She even came back and gave us extra utensils when she realized there were two of us. All the while smiling:) I ordered via yelp because we were starving and easily this restaurant has their menu in organized and visually appealing. Their descriptions and the variety of selections and customizations on point. My husband said he wasn't hungry but then saw the food and we scarfed it all down. He gave it 8.5 and said would come back. I ordered pickled vegetables which I thought was going to be onions but I think it's actually cabbage. Not my preference so I will take that home to the parents. Did order yogurt dip- husband was a fan. The chicken thigh and filet were so tender. I had put a note on the order for medium rare. I wouldn't call that medium rare but it was tender nonetheless. I'm sad I had to pay extra for a half of a Roma tomato, salad and lavash- the lavash I saw it in the add-ons menu so I assumed it wasn't in there. Ended up with so much lavash. No need to buy extra. The entire thing came up to $63-ish. The food was 4/5 but service was 5/5! I know this economy has everyone struggling. This was probably the most I have spent on Mediterranean food. I would have expected $45-$50. We just came back from Turkey so this would have costed us $15-$20 USD. Portions for rice and meat were good though! All in all- would come back!

It's like a cross between a western style bbq joint and a middle eastern twist with its meats and food. Turns out, this place is mainly an Afghan restaurant! I ordered their chili lamb kabob which was tender and juicy. It had lots of flavor from the spices but enough to where it wasn't overwhelming. I ordered it on top of a pillow of rice which was fluffy and buttery textured. It was delicious. There are sauce bottles to pair with the meats which is my favorite part. I really liked their white creamy yogurt sauce mixed with their red house chili sauce. It gave my lamb meat so much flavor and some heat. I loved my order and will definitely order two next time. I also want to try their steaks. They take their time grilling their meats so orders can take a short while. It's worth it for sure. No complaints here but I do wish they played some light music in the background for some ambiance. Things can be real quiet in here so it can be awkward dining in.
