When we first moved to Vallejo we frequented this Safeway. We have shopped at Safeway since moving to the area 6 years ago. When we moved to Vallejo a year ago Safeway seemed like a good choice since they consistently have products we are looking for and seem to be the cleaner of stores anywhere we have lived. This store site is generally clean, but the customer service is absolutely horrendous. Whether it is waiting 15+ minutes at the deli counter or experiencing very long wait times to checkout, there always seems to be a shortage of employees. Several experiences here have included a manager telling me that he did not have time to help me because he was running the bakery counter and the meat counter simultaneously. This was unsettling for me to hear from a manager, but what has kept me from going back to this site, despite it being the closer of the stores to our home is the customer service at the registers. One afternoon while waiting to cash out I noticed that the clerk was being rude to the customers in front of me, especially after the customer pointed out that she didn't receive her discount for the item she had purchased. The clerk snatched the item from the customers hand and began to process the transaction. The clerk finished and when it was my turn he simply began to scan the items, I greeted him and said I would like bags, to which he didn't respond. He continues to scan my items and run the conveyer belt which ended crushing some of the items I was purchasing. He finished scanning and as I was processing my payment I reminded him I had asked for bags and if my phone number had gone through for the Safeway card. He said no give me the number so I did to which he replied it didn't exist. I suggested perhaps we had missed a number and he asked for me to give him the damn number. He finally input it correctly and began to throw my items into bags. As I was walked away I told him that regardless of the day he's having he didn't need to be rude to customers and to be nicer to the next one. He proceeded to yell at me as I walked away saying that I had a problem. I simply told him that we don't address customers in this manner and he continued to yell even after I was three checkout lanes away. Having been in customer I know there's a standard and this isn't it. You don't speak to customers in that way, don't treat paying customers rudely, and don't yell at them in front of the rest of your store. I have not and will not return to this location and warn others to be cautious. There's a high level of crime that occurs in the parking lot as well, but inside the store isn't much better. Even family that has visited us and gone to this store warn us about shopping there. read more

I just love this place. The prices are normally unbeatable and its opened 24/7. It is very coconveniently located off of Hwy 80. I normally tell my relatives and ffriends who come to visit from the City to fill up their tank on their way back. Their best deal applies to the cash or atm users. I highly recommend this gas station. read more

Worst lines are like 10 people deep ALWAYS. BOOOOOOO. I know I should not be eating donuts at 8:30pm at night but the donuts section is gross and it smells like dead fish....the most dirtiest safeway ever read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Vallejo, California

See all

Avoid this Safeway at all costs! FOR MANY REASONS: 1) CURTIS - Somehow this "long term employee" is still working there. I have passed by multiple times asking for help, with none given. One time even he was on his iPhone chatting away loudly on company time I'm sure. He is constantly disheveled in appearance and has very long, smelly "dreadlocks" that should be trimmed or tied up in a bun if he is to stock milk or produce. When he has assisted me as a checker (unfortunately), he took NO care in bagging my groceries, handled my bread like an accordion and threw the receipt at me without so much as a thank you. He is a true example of someone who needs to rethink their career choice. If I could give him zero stars I would. 2) PARKING - Couldn't possibly be any worse! On the South side there is a very small lot which you will always be greeted by some homeless beggar on your way in, it has very poor lighting to boot. The East side by the two entrances there is a line of stalls but those might as well be compact spaces and no one there puts carts back or the employees do not return them so it is futile, and the worst is the North side which is full of people waiting 30minutes + to get the worst quality gas, and there have been MULTIPLE reports of break-ins and vandalism here. Don't believe me? READ OTHER REVIEWS! 3) WAIT TIMES - This horrible location does not have a self-check and the LOW quality staff (SEE #1) could care less if the lines are going all the way down the aisle or not. They simply do not care and move at a snail's pace while YOU the customer pay the price. MORE THAN ONCE have I dropped the item I was going to buy and left. 4) SELECTION - This location NEVER and I mean NEVER stocks one simple item that I always come to Safeway for, the Arizona Tea Lemon 1Gallon bottles! Even when they are not on sale they never stock them. One of my pet peeves. This review is a culmination of 10+ years of shopping in Vallejo and every opportunity I get, I go elsewhere to shop locally other than here. Management and low level employees take little pride in their care or service here. If, for some reason you have to go to Safeway, please do yourself a favor and go to the Glen Cove location off of Robles Way!!! read more

I was in getting gas this morning and was standing at booth trying to pay. A woman went in and was SCREAMING at the gas attendant!! She walked in, no good morning, no...oh you have a customer, just began bitching, soooooo unprofessional!! I found out that she was the manager!! Brenda, Brenna, something like that......she needs to be fired!! What professionalism from the attendant as I would of walked out!! read more

This review is for the Deli! The customer service is terrible. I stood in line for 20 minutes while the workers laugh and talk to a customer while making a sandwich. I wouldnt be soo upset but I was late going to work because of the wait! I will NEVER Stop there again! They are rude and have very slow! By the way I ended up leaving without lunch...never again read more

If you like parallel parking, you'll love this gas station. It is set up so that you need to parallel park to gas up. I found this very awkward - especially with so many people rounding about their cars. Good think I can parallel park from many years of living in SF. Safeway may have cheap gas, but Costco has it cheaper with a better layout too. read more

Great prices comparable with Costco minus the Costco membership card and it also offers the 3 types of gas (minus diesel I believe). Safeway card = extra 3 cents off However it loses stars for the 1 way, 2 lanes, and 4-5 pumps on either side. There's usually solicitors so beware. Heres a BIG TIP, unless you have a huge vehicle, the hose is long enough to reach on either side of your car so go to the shorter line and park really close to the pump. It should reach. Location is good, off Georgia I believe. The one in American Canyon has a Costco setup with multiple pumps per several lanes, so if you can I suggest going there. Less ghetto for sure. read more

This was the third safeway I went to in an attempt too order hot food from the food court but there was a line for sandwiches which was about 7 people long and only one person was working at the time so I left I dont think a 20+ minute wait is worth it so I ate some churchs chicken instead wont be back to safeway for a while read more

Avoid "Ghetto Safeway" at all costs. I have been screwed over so many times at this place. Only 1-2 cashiers are ever working, anytime of the day. Recently, the checkout line was halfway down the entire isle. Stupid customers plus horrible employees equals lots of wasted time. The manager is the most worthless piece of crap ever. I've spoken to him twice and he just does not care. One time, I was ignored for over 10 minutes in the deli. Another time it took 20 minutes to get a balloon filled because the employee was MIA. The service counter closes at 7:00 pm and I could not get a bus pass at 7:10 pm. The whole back of the store smelled like rotten eggs once. Are you listening Safeway? This place is crap and you should fire the manager and take down your sign. read more

GRRRRRR!!!! Sunday & there's only 2 lanes available...with at least 7-10 people in each line?!?!!! Safeway management, get your $hit together pah-leeeeease!! You need more checkers! ((AHEM)) read more

The lines are always long. The prices are reasonable not too high I do love that they have a gas station at this location it makes things a little more convenient. I wish they would hire more cashiers sometimes I'll walk out because the line is too long but they do have everything you need so I'll continue to shop here read more

Love this place for cheap gas but get here early or really late. Crazy lines since it's the only Safeway gas around. Why not shop at Safeway and get cheap gas? read more

There is always a line here, but that's probably because they typically have the cheapest gas. I shop at Safeway stores so often that I always have gas discounts and this location is on my way from SF to Tahoe so I stop here a lot. It is usually clean and I have never had a problem here. My only complaint? The window cleaners are broken. read more

Lines need to be shorter but i love the staff i always come there about 3 times a week but its disapointing when the lines are too long

This is a ghetto super safeway---don't go inside because it can be scary. It gets a five star rating for cheap gas and an easy freeway on/off if you are going south. Remember to enter your club number and drive safely! read more

Sketchy looking outside but I like the store itself. The prices are decent and the sales are good. They have great selections and meat, produce, and bakery are very good. The staff is nice, the store is clean. The gas prices are outstanding too! Butttt. Pretty sure I saw a women shitting in a bush outside in the parking lot. Twice now crazy people with crazy affects have been in the store trying to get me to engage in their crazy . Two dudes almost got in a fight in a check out aisle. People park their cars strangely because the parking lot is a bitch. I saw kids opening up the packages of bakery cookies from the back and eating them. Crazy looking guys walking through the parking lot screaming about ... Whatever. I don't like going there by myself after dark. read more

Assistant manager was super nice! But everything else sucked! This Safeway is understaffed and one review was so on -- someone complained about one person manning the hot food and sandwich station. Well, still the same issue because the woman working there the other night could have cared less about other people waiting and just gave us a look like -"you gonna have to wait". Uh, I'm not waiting while two crazy crack heads are randomly standing behind us like they're about to steal the last chicken breasts sitting on the pan. They can have it and I'm never coming back. read more

Worst Safeway! No self check out and they usually only have 2 cashiers during peak hours and lines are ridiculous. By the end of the night, the place usually looks pretty trashed. If I have to go, I go in the mornings. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. I went to get a breakfast burrito and the lady was literally cussing a storm... "Everyone decides to F****** call in then im about to become a F****** B****... not only when I said good morning did she just say "I don't got no bread other than sliced bread" well good mornjng to you too... the eggs were completely burnt and she just put more cheese on top to hide it. I have never had such a horrible Deli experience at Safeway. Btw this was Jo at the Deli... read more

I'm convinced that the management of this store doesn't care about it's customers, the deli, bakery, and butcher as well as 1 of 2 entrances to the store all close at 7 which is prime shopping hours for a lot of people. I live a few blocks away from this store and it's close proximity to home no longer saves me time due to the fact that they rarely have more than 2 cashiers at a time, which causes the lines to spill into the aisles which in turn makes the store hard to shop. Often times the aisles and shelves are missing essential items such as bottled water. I usually pay the extra it costs to shop at safeway for quality and service both of which this store is lacking. read more

I get gas at this place. Lines get pretty long.

Ordered 66 pieces of fried chicken for a party. Asked for it to be ready between 3:30-3:45. It was ready at 3:30! The kid that helped me was super nice too. Thanks for being on top of it!! read more

Just happened to stop at this Safeway store as I was passing through Vallejo..... I almost turned around and left, the entrance to the store was disappointing. It smelled like urine, and there was trash everywhere, I'm a regular shopper at Safeway and never have I ever seen one this dirty outside. Whoever runs this location should make sure the entrance is power washed every morning and trashed swept. This is a place where people buy food, no one should have to walk through this filth it's unsanitary. read more

What happened to this store??? I was at the bakery after waiting for over 30 mins I got what I wanted from the the cake case. NO ONE EVER CAME.... That is the second time this has happened. You company is losing money with no one to assist them. The gas station 2 or more pumps are closed all the time. Make the lane go slower... No customer service from the company.. This store is the worst I have ever seen. HELP!!!! read more

One of the cheaper places to get GAS. especially if you have earned your 10cents off.

This is closest and most convenient to home, so it's my default grocery. The produce department is very capable, with meat and bakery coming in second. Problem is the "new" parking lot. The south entrance is very, very, badly designed. It crimps up the traffic, and if you're not paying attention, you'll scuff your tires or dent your rims for sure. Neither Safeway nor the City of Vallejo should've signed off on this disaster entrance. In fact, they should tear it up and rebuild it, simply as a courtesy to us PAYING customers. For that matter, the north/west entrance by the gas station sucks, too. Bad design all around. Mi Pueblo is closing in on them due to better prices, awesome veggies, the killer food court, and a more manageable parking situation. read more

Wow, this is the Safeway I go to for my groceries and gas, but reading all the reviews confirms my fear of my car being broken in based on who is out in the parking lot. I give this store a three still because the clerks are always friendly to me. But the outside... sketchy. Be warned read more

I have been to this Safeway a few times & I have always had a good experience. The store is neat & organized, the employees are friendly. I have been to a couple of other Safeway stores in Vallejo & it was the exact opposite. Disorganized, poor customer service. I would rather shop here than the Safeway which is closer to my house! Update: things were fine here until today, the checker (& the office manager) gave me an attitude about getting cash over from my transaction. This is a holiday (Labor Day) & its 8 am. Of course people are going to want to get cash back! I would say they need to have more cash on hand in their registers, its not my problem. You need to post something at all your registers saying there is a limit for cash to be given to a customer ($75.00 or whatever) don't cop an attitude with the customer! read more

Always a line but it's one of the cheapest gas stations in the Bay Area. Employees have done a good job at setting out lane separators so there's no chaos, cutting, etc. Hoses are long enough where you can pull into either side no matter which side your gas tank is on. read more

Today I had a good experience here. Chris in the meat depart was fast and helpful. A man who I believe to be a manager seen that my basket was getting full and heavy and brought me a cart. The lines are still a little on the long side but the cashier was friendly. Great customer service today! read more

I always shop at this store, there's a lot of great deals at this store. The gas is really cheap too. The employees are so friendly and helpful. The only thing I don't like is that the store is crowded and there is always a big line. read more

Customer service sucks. I was standing at the counter and a lady walked out of the back, looked at me and walked away. No someone will be right with you. No I'll be right back. Nothing. Just a blank stare. read more

The assistant manager Curtis is so friendly and helpful! He has been working here for as long as I can remember and each time I come in he has the most natural, genuine friendly energy a person can have. This Safeway has a gas station, which can make getting in and out a pain.

The best brown rice veggie Sushi in Solano C. Best price as well. The only Safeway with an entire shelf of half- price items. The huge minus is no self- checkout as lines are long & checkers chat more than usual. read more

Best gas prices in town. Although there's generally a line of 3+ cars, the line moves quickly. This is one of 2 places I fill up in vallejo! Nice to come to a gas station that doesn't look run down and dirty. read more

This store should have a zero rating, I stopped shopping here but when Gas prices dropped i returned because I could not beat the price. However, its still the same crappy store. The gas station on a Friday had no person in the little cube, and there was a sign that said use your credit card. What the HECK! why would I use my credit card when I get a discount for using cash. I have filed more than one complaint with Safeway's regional offices, but what for because they do not do anything but have the looser manager who identifies herself as the Store Director call and ask you to come back. When you do come, she is hiding in her office on the telephone, the lines are long, and people are frustrated. Stop hanging stupid signs that say customers are important when obviously we are not. I went in the store to buy donuts, but there were no donuts because Kimberly apparently decided to cut all of the staffs hours so many of the staff quit. (This is what she said to me over the course of her telephone call asking me to return. I am still trying to figure out why she would call and volunteer to tell me this) When I complained to the Safeway Corporate office, well nothing. Until the new store Director "Kimberly" called me. She asked me to return so on Saturday when I did go back, the lines were long, the checkers were calling her and again still the same crappy store, long lines, creepy people milling about outside, a dishonest store manager who identifies herself as a Sore DIRECTOR! I can't believe Albertsons because that is who own's Safeway, they clearly don't care about customers, because they have these dreadful Store Manager. KIMBERLY please don't call me to tell more lies. If you are the Store Director you should never call people and make promises you can't keep. Albertson's hire people who can do the job efficiently and stop moving your terrible managers to other stores. She was the manager at the Admiral Callahan store and now she is on Lincoln, she did a terrible job there and she does a terrible job here. read more

The employees are nice enough but this store is hands down the worst. Understaffed, inefficient, sketchy. Always 20 minute waits to check out at 5-7pm. The only reason I shop here occasionally is because it's walkable and convenient. Come on Corporate! How embarrassing to have this store nicknamed "Ghetto Safeway" step it up and I'll shop here more often. I work across the bridge and I have no problem shopping there! read more
