I want to start by saying that I am a Trader Joe's fan. This Traders is no exception. The lines move quickly, it stays decently stocked, everything is fresh and the prices are good. This trip there were no flowers. The cashier, who was pleasant like they usually are, said they have been selling out as quickly as they get them. (??) This is a nice store, meaning that it's nice and clean and I enjoy coming here. I really enjoy coming here because there's none of the store on the other side of the freeway that I visit and I can get to both of them at the same time. They're kind of busy because it's the holiday season, which means that people are busy, stocking things, as possible that they have new employees, and they are quite busy. Some of the newer ones don't know how to move out of the way and we're walking around the store and so I did see someone with some really strange energy and I thought she was actually gonna bump into me with her cart. But she's also someone I've never seen before, so I can only assume that she's new and she's been hired for this holiday season. The food is OK, they don't have the tasting like they used to which is understandable because pre-pandemic we were eating everything and now it's a little different. But the food they have is pretty cool. I just wish they had better gluten-free offerings because I can't eat everything and I'd like to try some of the fun things that don't have wheat, barley or rye. But as far as stores go, this is a fun one. It's fine and I enjoyed my visit. read more

Aug 22 2025 4.5 stars. Trader Joe's as a chain has been a special place to me for decades. Back In The Day, the corporation would score some off the wall temporary products that were fun. I believe it was Pasadena Trader Joe's where I bought some Walter Mondale wine that was on the cheap after he lost to The Gipper. This location in Pinole is always nice to shop at. My wife likes their branded ice cream and I appreciate their Lismore Scotch once in a while. I've only had one sorrow here. It was for a purchase of a tasteless watermelon but they refunded me :-) and made me happy. The employees seem happy and work hard to provide good service at the cash registers. I miss that old timer though that went by "Sarge" that used to run the wine\ liquor section. I appreciate that the restrooms are always clean. Whoever designed the parking lot for the strip mall where this location is missed the mark. Parking most the time stinks here, especially when the lot is used by parents as a pick up spot for their kids getting out of the next door school. For sure this location of Trader Joe's is an asset to the local community. read more

What can I say about Trader Joe's? It's an addiction, once you buy a product from them, you want to keep going back. They have a lot of unique food that you can't get anywhere else. Although I feel their produce could be better, but they do have a great selection of frozen foods which I do enjoy. Their staff are very friendly and helpful. There are times it gets crowded due to their popularity and being a well known grocery store. This store when you walk in is very bright, open and inviting with floral in the front and going into the produce section. This is my neighborhood go-to Trader Joe's. Another Five-Star experience. I did an equal exchange of mangoes and no questions were asked. I didn't even have my original receipt. As long as it's not alcohol and is under $20 they allow you to return / exchange no issue. Super awesome of them. Got some organic half and half in addition. We shop here for most of our groceries. It's consistently really good. The staff are helpful and friendly. They do a great job of making recommendations and helping you find things when shelves get reorganized. The quality of products are typically very good, especially for the cost. Typically their food, even their snack foods, are mostly made of real ingredients. There are rarely lists of chemicals, even in brightly colored packaged food. Really my only critique is that there is so much plastic on their produce. That and the fact that corporate seem to be anti-union. read more

One of my favorite places to shop! Fair Market Prices and Quality of Food are important and TJ's has them both! The staff is always helpful and extremely friendly (happy and love their environment/job kind of attitude), the market place is always buzzing with a positive energy. I have experienced TJ's in different towns in California, Texas and Arizona and I wil say I have not had one negative experience with their products and or staff. This is one of the nicer Trader Joe's in the area. It's very clean and spacious, and parking spaces are wide and pretty easy. I wanted to compliment your team's handling of the tote sale! Having drop times throughout the day, and limiting the amount to the set of four is very thoughtful. We weren't able to find them available at any other stores, and Pinole was able to spread out the sale to 3-4? days. I was able to check in at 8:30 on day 3 and learn about 10am and 3pm drops today, and was able to drop in and get in line. Somehow it's worked out that my family each has their favorite color without any fighting. It was discouraging to check marketplace and see the tons of listings selling for about $20 for a tote. Everyone here is happy and we appreciate it! read more

I like this store. However, it has some unusual workers. One gentleman likes to have very loud conversation disgusting topics with other coworkers. I politely let him know it was not appropriate, and he continued to talk louder. Some of their workers don't realize that they are at work. read more

Happy to say that I love my neighborhood Pinole Trader Joe's! First off, they have sanitizing wipes outside to clean your cart/basket prior to entry. The store is vibrant, clean, has my usual and new favorites, and the friendliest and most helpful staff ever. If you're looking for something, the staff will go above and beyond to try to find it. I also love how knowledgeable the staff is about certain products, how they have helpful recommendations, and how they are just generally interesting to listen to. I find myself inadvertently eavesdropping on some of the staff's banter while I'm browsing the baguettes and smiling to myself. Some of my go-to products are the pizza dough, the Korean boneless short ribs, basil, chicken shawarma, garlic dip (addicting with pita chips or to add as a topping to practically anything), roasted corn, dark chocolate peanut butter cups, Semifreddi's cinnamon swirl toast (perfect for French toast!), cornbread, red lentils, Ezekiel bread, croissants, tomato soup and canned legumes. Gotta love their fresh flowers and plants as well. Their orchid/bamboo plant combo makes a beautiful gift. Look forward to coming back next week! read more

I always buy one or two new products to try out and this time it was the haddock fillets and the Branzino fillets! Also tried some Mediterranean inspired dishes like the new one I love is the Tabbouleh hummus and it's super delicious. I've been to a few TJ's in SoCal, so my expectations are kinda a little up there. And this place sure met it. It was supposed to be some non-peak hour on a Friday afternoon but oddly enough, there was a line around the corner. I think I almost went all the way to their shipping and receiving area, so clearly, this place is popular. Staff was friendly and made sure everyone wore their masks properly, gave the option of sanitizing our hands before coming in and reminded us to "social distance." The store was clean and clear of debris and all their items are stocked and organized. I was here for two things, Hubbers was here for a couple of other things and we had zero problems locating any of them. We were outta there in a few minutes. Parking shared with other businesses, but not an issue. Good first run, good to know it's there (more importantly because we discovered a new snack favorite for the Hubs!) Keeping them on my radar, for sure. read more

I absolutely love Trader Joe's. This particular one is not that big but it's ok. There's not a lot of plants but that's ok too. I mainly come here for the food and specialties! Love seeing different items. By the way they have a great selection of wine if you like wine. Customer service is friendly and fast. The only downside is if you like a certain food item next time it might not be there because it's seasonal or something :(. Like today I came in for the Mochi Cake Mix and they're out Booooo! What absolute EXCELLENT customer service from the moment I called about some dog cookies for my pup to the checkout with Silas to the interaction with hands on management and even the help with your employees collecting carts! You have a great team there. I came in for dog treats and left with a lot more groceries than I expected to take. I loved the I the fully stocked store and friendly staff. One of my favorite Trader Joe's is this one in Pinole. It is well stocked and all of cashiers are very friendly. I usually purchase package salads here and I always tell them I need two forks because usually one of my forks breaks on me. A causality of eating salads aggressively. As of April 2020, there are 505 Trader Joe's stores in the U.S. and most of them are in California. New York, Washington and Illinois round up the top 4 in that order. The 8 states with no stores are Alaska, Arkansas, Hawai'i, Mississippi, Montana, South Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming. Whenever our Hawai'ian Ohana visit the Bay Area, they always go shop at Trader Joe's to stock up on items. They seem to like the Speculoos Cookie Butter the most for some reason. If they get the craving, they would ask to send them a care package to get their fix. With the Tiki-themed stores and Hawai'ian shirts, it still baffles me why there aren't any stores in Hawai'i. I guess we're lucky that we can hop in a car to drive a few minutes to a Trader Joe's store to shop till we drop. We can't take that for granted, even during the SIP pandemic due to Covid-19. Speaking of that, they have adapted to providing a safer shopping environment by limiting how many customers can enter and shop while keeping social distancing manageable. This store also offers to spray your hands with a mixture of alcohol and water prior to entering the store at the main entrance, and this is appreciated. I guess this will be the new norm until this pandemic is over and better to be safe than sorry. Yesterday (which was a Saturday), we went to the El Cerrito location in hopes of purchasing the Ube Mochi Pancake. They were so popular and told us to return in the morning. However, since Pinole is closer to us, we came here this morning in hopes of obtaining them and getting some flowers for Mother's Day in the process. Not only did they have the pancakes (we bought 4), but they also had the Ube Ice Cream that were selling like hot cakes last year. Double score. While we're at it, we also bought some cage-free eggs, organic veggies, oat milk, olive oil and other goodies to fill our pantry and fridge for the week. I also got some organic espresso dark chocolate batons that I simply am addicted to. In my opinion, these are the best dark chocolates out there....but that's just me so you'll have to check 'em for yourselves. If you go to any Trader Joe's store, you will notice and appreciate the consistency and similarities on all of 'em. They layouts are all similar so there's a feeling of familiarity even if you haven't been to that particular store before. And did you know what the bells meant? One bell means to open a new register, two bells mean's there's a question at the check-out and three bells means they are requesting for manager's assistance. Now you know these little bits of trivia answers and knowing is half the battle. read more

Yes, Trader Joe's deserves to be elevated to 5 star status. COVID-19 season has been hard on all of us, but I think mostly for the retail sector. There are folks out there who want to play around and abuse the system that's put in place for everybody's protection. Even the abusers. Trader Joes, I think in the light of what's been going on, has handled every situation with the utmost dignity possible. Especially this little store here in Pinole Valley. The people there are so very very nice and they've done a tremendous job during the stress and hardships that they've had to endure. We have found very little out of stock due to the pandemic. Some things have gone away, and some things were just wiped off the shelf through panic shopping. Trader Joes has stepped up in several ways by bringing in items to substitute what we've all been used to. They did put limits on certain paper products. This gave more folks a chance to get what was needed. In my opinion, the diplomacy and humanitarianism that's been displayed by the people who work at Trader Joe's and the company itself, is exemplary. It only makes me a more loyal customer and I can't wait until we can all be back to COVID-free shopping/living. read more

The Pinole Valley Road Trader Joe's is my favorite T-Joe's store, the parking situation notwithstanding. Overall, all the T-Joe's have super helpful staff, and this one is one of the best. I love the spacious aisles, overall layout of the store, and plenty of room to maneuver the large shopping carts. The mural on the upper walls is my favorite of all the T-Joe's I have been in. Was in today at exactly 9am. There are three registers. 1 has a bunch of people on it and is going to take forever. 1 has one guy with a million items. The lady at the register is having a casual conversation with the guy, completely ignoring the fact there are other people in the store. That line will take longer, far longer than the one with a bunch of people on it. And there's one other register. There's no one in line. The lady behind the register is bagging a couple groceries. I walk up and she says "I'm helping someone." There is no one there so apparently someone is paying and decide to go shopping for more groceries, again, ignoring the fact other people exist. And apparently I'm not allowed to stand in line there. So there's literally no where to pay for my groceries unless I want to stand around and wait and wait and wait. This is how it is at this place. Long lines, people at the registers who don't comprehend other people exist - customer who are the same. Here's a tip: if someone comes to pay for their groceries, they are done shopping. If they want to buy mroe, then put their groceries aside and take other people. Don't hold up the store because of one selfish person. Also because there are no counters in the aisles, no line should be more than 2 people. Open more registers. People are standing there holding all their stuff in these long lines. It's absurd. But here's the thing. The manager is reading this and couldn't care less. So I'll send a message to corporate. read more

Pinole needed a grocery store and they got Trader Joe's. Now students from Pinole Valley High School can come here after school to get pick up by their parents (parents could do their grocery shopping before picking their kids up). This grocery store does get a lot of business. Long lines to get ring up. Thankfully I do not have to go to El Cerrito for Trader Joe's. Their produce are amazing. They surely stock a lot during the day. The location is nice but I wish there was an easy way to get out of the parking lot. I am going to give a good review on Trader Joe's. read more
