I want to recognize an employee for providing excellent customer service. I believe his name was Anthony or Jonathan. He is an older gentleman who was working when I visited the store. I asked him where the dry ice was, and he was incredibly kind, polite, and helpful. Instead of just pointing me in the direction, he took the time to explain exactly where to find it and made sure I was able to get what I needed an also made sure he explained how to safely handle the dry ice. His friendly attitude and willingness to help really stood out and made my shopping experience much better. Customer service like his doesn't go unnoticed. As of July 2025, restroom code: 0742 They might change this monthly or every quarter or yearly etc, but usually if you're on Yelp / have a Yelp profile, you're a person that may see this and go "oh cool thanks good to know." To be realistic, they put codes on the restrooms so homeless people don't use it regularly to use the sink as a shower. I get that everyone has to use the restroom. But they'd prefer if a homeless person asks a store associate and they judge their sanity/need for help etc. If you're reading this, you likely have a phone/computer (not to say a homeless person wouldn't have a phone), and can make use of the restroom code. I had to type this out because Yelp no longer has a "tips" section where I can just post a 1 liner. I have to hit the minimum words/characters to post. In other news: Lucky has been on fire lately with their deals, especially for July. Their $1.99/lb cherries, been eating them like there's no tomorrow. read more

5/30/25 - I'm in the store at 10:15 am. It's packed. There are only two self serve registers open and the line is going into the aisle. Why is the line for the self serve so long? Because there are only two regular lines open and those are also well into the aisles. This is not acceptable. Read the room. If you have a ton of people in your store, there should not be employees walking around laughing. Every person should be at the register. Having lines that long is absolutely absurd. I see employees walking around doing nothing. But there are only two registers open and giant lines of super angry people. And this is okay why? And I couldn't exit. I couldn't go back out the way I came in because it was a swing door the said "emergency exit will sound off if you go back this way" Then they have lines closed and there are large crowds of people waiting in the two lines that are open blocking everyone from getting through, it's an absolute nightmare. I finally get through and find a way out. This is not how a store should be run. I just wanted one thing. Should have taken me 3 minutes to get in and out. Instead I see the worst run store in Pinole, tons of angry people, 2 whole lines and only 2 working self serve registers. Never again. I'll shop at 7-11 or Jerry's shop and go before I ever step foot in this lousy, poorly run store again. And here's the thing - they'll read this and laugh. They couldn't care less. That should tell you everything about this store, folks. Let's just hope this awful store follows the way of the Pinole Safeway. Update: The response I got says "we're actively working on fixing the long lines..." No. They're not. There were all kinds of employees in full view of the giant crowd of people, walking around doing nothing. This location officially closed off one door on the left side of the building. I don't blame Lucky on only having one door open for business due to shoplifting. The store officially created a barricade when you enter the store which the only way out is through the checkout. Here is the reason why I am giving Lucky on Ftizgerald a good review: Amazing teamwork that the store did. I actually came here due to $.25 12 count cage free eggs (they had plenty and were sell by two days when this was advertise). The only reason why I did not give Lucky a five stars review: where the heck are the birds coming from? This location has a flock of seagulls and I ran, I ran so far away! Lucky in Fitzgerald has been in business since the 1980s and the only store that has lasted longer than the other businesses nearby. read more

Store has really gone down hill in the past few years. Very sad. I grew up going to this store. Very poor customer service! No one is friendly and seems like everyone is basically robots there. Just collecting a paycheck. Inventory is horrible and quality of produce is bad. Unfortunately it's the closest store to me. When my husband and I went to checkout, we approached one of several empty lanes with a cashier. Our cashier Lydia was chatting with the cashier one lane over named Martina and neither of them bothered to say hi to us or acknowledge us in any way beyond Lydia scanning our items until I made a point of interjecting into their conversation about how people shouldn't park on the curb in front of their home at any point in time, saying "go park in front of yo mama's house" while shaking her cane in the air at us. She clearly meant it to be humorous but it was very unprofessional, awkward, and highlights why this store has so many negative reviews. read more

We were in the area and decided to stop by. There's a really big parking lot. The place is clean and really stocked. Everything was a little pricey. On the price it would said it was cheap and the discount did not come up when we paid. The food was pretty fresh it didn't seem old. Overall okay expensive but this store is a little more expensive than others. read more

Deli customer service, May was very rude and aggressive. Not sure why she is working if she is definitely not wanting to help. Everyone was so polite in there! I'm usually a Costco girl!!! I stopped just to look around. Walked in I was greeted so nicely. I was looking at the signs to go down the correct isle. 4 workers asked did I need assistance!!!! Wow!!! This was so nice. Very helpful customer service. Luckys is where I shopped with my grandparents. I'm now 54 1/2.! Brought back so many great memories. The store was very well stocked. The employees were cleaning cleaning cleaning!!!! I commonly have very poor experiences here. The app is unreliable and rarely works, yet the store requires coupons to be clipped digitally for sale prices. The cashier couldn't figure out how to help and told me to call corporate. She insisted everyone loves the app and that no one else has issues, but I've seen plenty of reviews on Yelp stating otherwise. It was a sad day when Safeway closed. read more

Self Check Out folks BEWARE! Yesterday I selfed checked my groceries. As usual, I needed the cashier to fix my computer from her register to continue scanning. Then when I went to leave I saw the Cashier smerk at me. Sue, should never play poker. I stopped in my tracks to find she added $3.99 to my bill. WTH, yes I had 9 items, 10 items were on my receipt. I stood right next to her, counted my items in cart & on receipt. She thought she could pull a fast one from her register & assuming I would not notice, because I had some high priced items. She tried to avoid me, when I was checking how many items I had vs how many on my receipt. As a customer, I don't have the ability to put "produce" as a line item. She finally admitted she did it! Overall not a bad store to shop for all your groceries at. Usually avoid luckys all together because of how the workers treat you at all locations not just this one... They have a big bakery/ deli & two workers ( when I was in there ) powering through customers pretty quick. In and out transactions when they aren't busy at night time at least. Multiple self checkouts were open and multiple workers were at cash registers. Got in and out all I could ask for. They have a mens & woman's bathroom as well. Lucky has a rewards type program like Safeway but it's problematic. I've been told I need to call the corperate office because it won't let me log in. I shop there almost daily and put about$500 in their pocket every week. I haven't had a chance to call the corperate office because I'm either busy or I forget until it's too late. So I go shopping during the day which I never do. I usually go at night and everyone on the night crew is nice but I found out the day crew is horrible, disrespectful and arrogant. I picked up a couple items that required a digital coupon but I can't log into my account. So I go up to pay and I explain to the cashere that I can't log into my account to get the digital coupons and could she still apply the discounts and before I even finished she said, no I can't do that. It immediately got me upset because she said how do I know if u even have an account ? I dropped an f bomb which just slipped and I immediately apologized but then she copped a big attitude and said I'll get the manager to see what he says and I said yes please do. When he got there I explained to him the situation and instead of handling it with respect he talked to me like I was some kid. I'm 60yrs old. He told me and I quote, "You got time to come in here and shop so you need to make time to call the corperate office", end quote. So it's my fault that their system sucks and I'm at fault for not getting a call into them ? Screw that. Then I wasn't given monopoly game tickets either. Also I had nothing that required a digital coupon even though it clearly said it on the shelf. So you can't even trust what the shelf price says and this bald headed manager is telling me what I need to do with my time ? I've never been treated like that at Safeway. Yes the safeway isn't a brand new store and narrow isles but every cashere there is helpful if I have a problem with digital coupons or the app. Every cashere at Safeway took time to help when I asked. At Lucky the casheres just give attitude and treat customers anyway they want. I'm on the fence if I want to shop at Lucky anymore. I had to go back in to get the monopoly tickets and again the female who was also a manager gave me attitude. Lucky day crew should be fired and a new crew brought in. I never experienced anything like it. I spend way too much money in that store to put up with such disrespect. Safeway is gonna get the bulk of my business from now on. Lifes too short to put up with mouthy Lucky employee's that have bad attitudes and disrespectful. read more

The store has become pure trash. They literally try to be awful. When I first moved here in 2003, it was one of the nicest stores in the area. Plenty of friendly checkers and it was very clean. Back in those days, customer service was a priority. Now there are no more than one or two checkers at a time, even during the busiest times. Lines often go to the back of the store near the seafood section. It's ridiculous. The self-checkout is a joke because most are out of order. The area where you're supposed to place your groceries after scanning is almost always wet, sticky and filthy. The attendant usually doesn't care one way or another. They're far more interested in what's on their phone. It's a really odd tactic by Lucky to be so short-staffed due to their low wages because the store doesn't do a fraction of the business that it used to. They must be losing money because of their short-sighted insistence on being cheap. Trader Joe's, in contrast, has plenty of checkers and baggers and have no shortage of able and willing employees. They're all extremely friendly and keep the store clean. And because of that, they have PLENTY of customers all day long. So what's the deal with Lucky? Hire more employees and pay them a better salary. Get rid of the employees who don't want to work or even acknowledge a customer's existence. Open more checkout areas and keep them clean and customers will come back. But I'm done with this store and just going to Safeway in Hercules for my basic shopping. It's not perfect, but it's much, much better than Lucky. read more

The 5 STAR is only going to "CODY". It was Dec 8th,2020 @ 9:20 pm (or a lil later) . Only 2 cashier's open..and like a few ppl each in line to pay, I walked over to a young man stocking water bottles and asked if someone can assist me in grabbing a small Christmas tree... he didn't hesitate at all and said "SURE!". He had to ask a older Asian woman (the one in charge) but, she was an A$$ n made comments to him and looked at her watch...he just said " let me help the young lady" I thanked her as well and she just ignored me. He's so sweet.. He told me to take my time and I did LOL. He gave me the tag to ring up and I went back in and he stood outside till I came back. I went to ring up the tree and the other cashier was a young girl with glasses and theb1st thing she said was "Ohhhh, huh who assisted you to the trees???" I said "dunno his name " and she kinda freaked out because he wasn't 17 and that they close the tree services at 9pm LOL...she was totally freaking out. Relax its a tree not alcohol. She kept making rude comments about Cody...Not appreciated in my book when he was so sweet n kind. There's people dying, homeless, sick no jobs....I had a long day as a dental professional and been feeling super depressed since covid with work n being over worked. I thought a tree would lift my spirits and was suppose to be off at 5pm but left at 6:30pm....As I was driving to grab the tree I was so excited and having Cody to assist me made my day. I've shopped at this Lucky's for probably 20 of the last 30 years. I've gotten to know some of the employees. They were loyal to the store which kept me loyal to it also. Unfortunately we have seen the last of each other. When I walked up to the door this morning and they had a sign saying masks were still required for both vaccinated (I am) and unvaccinated customers even though the ridiculous mask mandate ended 2 days ago, I called them and said I was heading to one of the nearby grocery stores and the first store to let me in without a mask would get my business from now on. Hercules Safeway did. And I called El Sobrante Raley's and they said they would too. Sorry. I remember back in the "ten days to slow the spread" days stores didn't want to require masks because it would hurt their business, but when the state forced them all to they all figured no problem. No matter where we went if we needed groceries, tough, we had to wear the useless thing. So now they figure we're all sheep. We're all used to wearing them now. If our masters in government or Lucky's upper management tell us to wear them for the rest of our lives we'll just all be obedient. Nope. We should have been back to normal many months ago. I ordered a cake with no borders and different word on the cake also I wanted it beige I sent a picture and they said it was "easy" also the lady taking my order on the phone had a attitude. Today July 6 Thursday I came to pick it up with my mother and when we told her our order she showed us the cake. The cake was straight up white with white borders and the writing was wrong. When we explained she said it was the person who made the cakes fault. She asked if we wanted it so we said no then she had a even bigger attitude. Me and my mother picked up one of those mini cakes and we didn't know where to pay we asked her if we pay in the front or with her. She replied with "Do you see a register here, No then you pay in the front" in a very rude way. My mom replied with " ok ok, calm down!" We left right after. During pandemic I think its been hard for them to keep lines in control (but we're in unprecedented times so I give them the benefit of the doubt). Deli is cool and one of the only places that seems to regularly Breyer's in almost all flavors including lactose free vanilla. Too tired of grocery shopping to cook? Nearby Pho Craze (spelling? new Vietnamese noodle place) and other restaurants offer convenience places to stop for dinner in the same trip. read more

I picked up the wrong card to purchase my groceries(yes, my fault) however, the BAGGER says your groceries will be to the side when you get back ... when I got back groceries are no where to be found! My bug is don't say it if you don't mean it and then act STUPID and CLUELESS when I get back ( yup Checker included)!!! If you knew you were going to put the freakin' items back you should have said ... "we can't hold your groceries" I would have understood that. Will continue to be an early morning shopper here ... the morning staff is much more knowledgeable. Would never have said that if they didn't mean it. A little about the history of this location. This has always been a supermarket since this shopping center was created. It has gone through many name changes. Here are some of the names; Skaggs Alpha Beta, Alpha Beta, Albertsons and now Lucky. I probably missed a couple but those are the ones I remember. So as you can tell, I have been going to this store my whole life. I went there a week ago to go shopping. It was looking better than ever and the shelves were really stocked up. Plenty of options to choose from. Lots of produce. this store is so much better than the supermarkets in SF IMHO. I went to the deli and got a Veggie Delight sandwich. A kind woman helped me and I noticed that she grabbed several fresh ingredients to make my sandwich, so that was nice. The sandwich was big and delicious and I loved it. The service was a little slow and there were only two people working the section when they needed about 5 or 6. We had to wait in line a long time. 3's a crowd? Forget about it. More like 13's a crowd. I was so bored I was flirting with some really ugly old guy (and I don't even like guys). They do have a Bank of America inside but if you want to talk to the teller the line is long and slow, but they do have ATMs, so that's cool. This geographic area has more people living in it than ever so that's why this store has more customers and more food inside of it than ever. My advice is to go there when it is slow, because around dinner time it is just mobbed. I want to subtract half a star for the long lines, but since I can't give half stars I will just give them 5 stars. I judge my grocers on the basics: variety and availability of products offered (4/5), quality of products offered (4/5), price (2/5) and customer service (4/5). Yesterday, I shopped at Lucky after having shopped a value grocer for the past several years. It was refreshing to visit a store with appealing produce, live lobsters and a seafood department that offers more than two fish options. They even had crawfish and red rock crab claws. I only came for a few items, but I had to walk down nearly every aisle because I was absolutely clueless to where my items were located and I must have forgotten how grocery stores are organized. As for the prices, some of their commercially packaged items are more expensive than value grocers. Their produce is also higher in price, but it is also higher quality. If you buy a lot of packaged items, it might be worth buying those items elsewhere or stocking up when the items are on sale at Lucky, and buying your meat and seafood here. I don't buy a lot of package items so the dimes and nickels more that I spend on products here do not add up to much. Plus, I buy in season produce and items that are on sale determine my menu. I must admit, not all Lucky are created equal. Some smaller Lucky stores do not offer the variety that is offered at this store. This store is a wobbler between a three and four, but I am rounded up because I was uber excited to be reunited with Lucky. read more

Lucky - Crawfish! At Lucky? - Grocery Near Me - Pinole, California

The quality of meat has plummeted tremendously. Since I moved, I rarely come here but had some spare time after picking my son up from football practice and thought let me grab a few items. Seeing that Lucky's was having a buy 5 for $25 on select meats I decided to give it a shot and see if I can budget this weeks grocery shopping list. On the outside of the package the meats look fresh, or so I thought. I got home and began unpacking everything, including taking the meats out of the store packaging. I always do this so I can freeze what isn't going to be cooked right away. I opened the tri-tip, and everything was fine. I noticed a little brown on the middle layer of meat and did a smell test. Doesn't smell bad or appear bad. Thinking maybe they added some food coloring to make the meat appear more "red" like I've heard supermarkets do. I open the lamb chops. The order that arises from the packaging was unbelievable. I took a fork and speaks the chops apart and discovered a dark almost mold area on the meat next to the bone. This is bad! I called my son into the kitchen to verify my sense of smell was working. He entered the kitchen and I had him smell the lamb chops. He let out a huge "eeeewwwwww" and a face of disgust. I recorded him throughout the process so that I can show this to everyone. Considering I have never had an issue with this Lucky's I didn't attempt to save the receipt prior to unpacking my groceries. I knew if I called that they would ask for a receipt I no longer had. Moral of the story, 5 for $25 on select meats is too good to be true. You'll never know the quality of it because the date stamped on the package will be deceiving! I came by three times in two weeks and all three times they were out of the Dole fruit juice in a flavor that only they carry and I have not seen anywhere else. On the plus side, the customer service manager, Joy, is pretty professional and courteous. I've had to go to her several times over the past few years, including my complaint with said cashier (read my other review). Joy said she'd set aside extra juice for me when the shipment comes in tomorrow. read more

As previously mentioned by an earlier reviewer, why would you make everyone enter and exit through the same door? We're still in a pandemic! I got stuck in the vestibule by entering customers blocking the way out with their shopping carts and exiting customers blocking my retreat with their shopping carts. It was pure dumb. Meanwhile, the store has been freshened up and looks nice, but the selection there is as dull as ever. I'd give this Lucky's three stars because the employees are pretty great in the face of poor corporate leadership, but the parking lot is stupidly aggressive and poorly designed. read more

This is my local Lucky store, so I know pretty much know all of the cashiers who work here. They're mostly all great and I do enjoy seeing the familiar faces when I shop here. One cashier here though, Rita, is such a dear. Even when she has a huge line or a customer is giving her grief, she keeps a smile on her face and keeps the lining moving efficiently. Shopping while being Black here Saturday morning with my daughter and 3 yr old granddaughter who had her own tiny shopping cart. We were literally FOLLOWED by several loss prevention workers the entire shopping trip making us feel so uncomfortable. Did I mention we had two carts with many items, one large and the tiny one. It was so BAD that I had to check my purse that I left at home (lol).
