I am really blessed to have a good Grocery store near me to go from time to time. It's very clean with low prices and good deal.

This 5 star review is for DEZ, not for FoodMaxx. Last night I went in for 1 bag of rice, Only 3 cashiers open, lines to the back into produce aisles. We all have somewhere to be I personally have minor scoliosis I was dying to be home after my own 8 hour shift. One of her coworkers had the AUDACITY to close Dez's line WITHOUT telling myself or anyone what to do, NOR redirecting us to another line. On the other hand, DEZ was quick. Her shift had ended, she was supposed to be off but DECIDED to help, call her manager to let Him know (TIM) that she would be going overtime AND, she was STILL checking people out. She THEN proceeded to contact another coworker to reopen her line to the remaining customers (that were left IN THE BLUE BY the second employee; white woman, with mask+air filter device) and asked him to stand at the end of the line so she could get relieved EFFICIENTLY. Oh and yes, I don't want to fail to mention that DEZ took care of US with kindness AND a smile. TIM YOU BETTER RECOGNIZE DEZ BY GIVING HER A RAISE BECAUSE ITS EMPLOYEES LIKE HER THAT WILL MAKE ME SHOP THERE AGAIN. And it's employees like the other one (air filter lady) that will keep me away and additionally bring YOU problems with all due respect. SHE NEEDS TO WORK ON HER COMMUNICATION etiquette. read more

First off they have a Bathroom and disabled parking. Huge selection of everything you could ask for. It's like a mini Costco. Grocery shopping all done in one spot for me at least! They have a smaller parking lot for the size store they have. Usually pretty packed but it's worth it when you have everything you need in one spot. Friendly staff sometimes , other times not so much. But it's just how it goes. Just don't deal with them anymore if their rude to you there's plenty of other workers where that came from ! I love this grocery store. It has everything ever with the best deals. Very big place so if you can't find what you need here, I'd be extremely surprised. Stocked up on the essentials and some meals I wanted to cook. The cashier was lovely and hella fast even when checking out the vegetables and fruits--most take forever to find whatever code tells you what price to charge. I just went to Foodmax with my 12 year old brother, we grabbed a few things for dinner and I grabbed a couple of wine bottles. I get to the cashier and as she rings the first bottle she asked for my I.D so I took it out my wallet and handed it to "Sunita" (name on receipt) she proceeds to ask for my brother's I.D me in confusion asked why, she said that bc if more than one person goes with me to the store and I get Alcohol that person has to show an I.D. I have never ever in my life heard of this before and I always go grocery shopping there WITH HIM and Most of the time I grabbed alcohol and no cashier has ever asked for his I.D bc there is no need to. I'm having a problem with this particular FoodMaxx it seems that they are not storing their milk products correctly. This is the second time that I've purchased a milk product and it has spoiled in the refrigerator well before it's expiration date. The first time I had a half gallon of low-fat milk that spoiled in the refrigerator. This time it was a quart of heavy cream that spoiled in the refrigerator. Apparently, there is a problem between taking the product off the truck and putting it in the refrigerator section. Or putting products back in the refrigerator that have been out the refrigerator too long. Get it together FoodMaxx! read more

Having been to a couple of Food Maxx, now, I can safely say they are probably all laid out the same. You're forced to go around the perimeter of the store before you're allowed to see and have access to the rest of the selections. I don't think this is necessary in order to have patrons spend their money. In fact, I've been known to go in the out door in order to get to the areas that I really want. Especially when time is far more important than wandering around the maze. Yes, some good prices. Nice produce. Good selection of canned Mexican food items. I like that the store is clean and doesn't smell in the meat section. If the layout was better I'd probably shop here more often. read more

I use to go here a lot when I lived in Pinole. By far, this has the cheapest vegetables and everything else in terms of big food markets. Their facility is clean and I much rather prefer this food max than the one in San Pablo. The only issue is that this place can get a little chilly and they have a limited selection read more

I love foodmaxx for their great prices! I always shop here when I need to go grocery shopping as opposed to luckys or Safeway. I love their meat department, they have so much selection. Recently, they have updated their fridges and freezers to energy efficient ones! They're really cool and look pretty modern. Checking out is usually a breeze, however the last few times the checker has been throwing my groceries -_- I need to get their names because it really annoys me. Like, hmmm I totally picked out those peaches that weren't bruised so you can throw them and bruise them for me! So rude. I'm beginning to rethink going here because of it. I appreciate discount supermarkets like FoodMaxx, but there's always a price to be paid and it always happens to be service. FoodMaxx is a large scale supermarket stocking everything Safeway or Lucky's might carry but at a slightly lower price. The layout of the store is much like Costco or IKEA, in which they force you to go through the entire store before reaching the registers. I can usually find everything I need at FoodMaxx, but there have been instances where they don't have what I need and I'm forced to drive down to Safeway. However, their low point is their register/check out; regardless of time of day, there is never more than two or three employees manning the registers, which is beyond ridiculous. A store of this magnitude with only three checkers is completely insufficient and frustrating. Being forced to wait twenty minutes to purchase one or two items is completely unreasonable. Considering the amount of customers this store sees, I'm more than confident they can hire more cashiers. read more

I am a very regular shopper at Foodmaxx. This one and the one in Richmond mostly. I am very disgusted to see that dogs are casually allowed in the store. Today I witnessed two very dirty looking, foul smelling, bad-mannered dogs led around the store on leashes then placed in the cart later. Neither of these dogs were identified as "medically" necessary with the vests that legit dogs have. Ill be avoiding this store until the rules, laws are more regularly enforced. If this location had a high quantity of items, I would have given it 4 stars. One quality to point out about this location is it's organic/gluten free section. It has a variety of items, although the section itself is kind of small. But the attempt is recognized & acknowledged. The service is average, they always ask how you are; however, there are some cashiers that are friendly. One time I went a cashier let me know that some grapes I was buying was not ver $7, shout out to him because I definitely did not get them. I come here regularly, so no complaints. read more

I don't really like coming here but my husband swear's by this place that we get the best deals than any grocery store in Hercules/Pinole. It's depressing in this FoodMaxx and makes my grocery shopping experience unbearable. The vegetables are not 100% fresh. I've seen the broccoli in ice amongst other vegetables. The lines are also very long. Came grocery shopping here on a weeknight and only 2 cash registers open. 20 minutes of my life wasted. This is where you can find great deals for meat. We come here to purchase our chicken breasts, steaks and ribs. It gets pretty busy after 3pm, because you get the after work rush, so try to come in the early morning. The whole store is pretty clean and they usually have everything else we need too. The only downside, is that you have to bag your own groceries. But it's the sacrifice that we make for these meat deals! read more

I have shopped at this store for almost 20 years. Lately the service has been going way down hill. Tonight there were only two check lanes open. There were employees walking around and there was an employee bagging which is totally unnecessary since customers can bag their own. Management seems to have a philosophy of "screw the customer" This place keeps going down hill. The bathrooms have been closed for renovation. No one seems to know when they will reopen. I believe that California has a law requiring super markets to have public restrooms available. This store is in violation. read more
