My grandmother came home shaken up over the blatant discrimination and racism she faced at this store. She asked an employee if she worked there and if she could help her find something, to which the employee dismissively replied a stern "No." to both, without even making eye contact with her. The employee was stocking meat in Safeway uniform. To not be rude, my grandmother went to another employee and asked them to help her, and the employee stated that the woman that told her she didn't work there would be able to help her. My grandmother goes back up to the employee and asks why she lied. The woman continues lying, saying "I never said that. I don't remember saying that." Then goes "I thought you were like the rest of *them.*" My grandmother is very hurt by this, as she did nothing to warrant that. No one does. She asks for the manager to file a complaint, and he was even more dismissive. He listened to nothing my grandmother had to say, then stated "I'm not going to write a report on this so you can just leave." No help, no worry, no care. Two random customers began antagonizing my grandmother to take the side of the manager/employee, and the Safeway staff did nothing. They ended up calling the cops on my 72 year old grandmother, for trying to buy meat. I don't even have words. Everyone in this situation share the same race, some sort of Latino, and I believe that is where the tribal, racist, and defensive behavior came from. Everyone else in the store was very kind towards her. It's tragic that in 2026, this repulsive behavior is still ongoing. We are all the same, we bleed the same, laugh the same, live the same and die the same. Race should never matter or be a focal point. Deciding to discriminate against someone over their voice or skin pigmentation is a sign of a lower IQ if you ask me. Maybe that's why they're in their 30s/40s working at Safeway. Came in on 6/4 at 11:30am and tried to order a sandwich, however an Older black women at the deli dept was very dismissive. I came in to order and waited patiently while she chatted it up with a customer. Then she proceeds to tell me it was gonna be a long wait for a sandwich. Then states that she was planning to close the deli. If that was the point when I had walked up. I wish she had said that instead of wasting my time having me stand there waiting. Most of my friends refer to this Safeway as the "ghetto hood" store...and while aspects of that may be true...I want to give some props today. I had a really pleasant experiece while looking for pork chops in a top notch Sunday meal. Came across the last package on the shelf that were on sale for 1.99 a pound. I would like to thank whoever priced the that paticular pack of chops...cause dinner was almost for the free. Got in and out under 10 bucks...on top of that hardly any body was in the store for it being Mother's day although there were some last minute flower grabbers. The cashier Antonio is a complete TERRIBLE EMPLOYEE & makes this location a terrible location to shop at. He is completely rude, racist & always has an attitude. I simply asked him to confirm the price of my item to ensure my coupon was taken off & he looked at me like I was crazy & said "I am not giving you any deals". I told him I didn't not expect him to give me a deal but to confirm the price of my orange juice & instead of simply giving me a price & that being it he kept saying I'm not giving you a deal & sat there and argued with me . Ok, this is my neighborhood Safeway. I go there a least 4Xs weekly. This week was a little different because I had been out of town and yesterday was rainy so I tired, for the first time, a Pick Up order through the app. I do love the Safeway app. I check it regularly for deals and free stuff. My husband was getting off work at 6 so I set the pick up for 7. I placed the order around 4:30 ish - surprisingly easy and I was happy to get a pick up time for the same day. I was chancing it shopping that late. Anyway, my order was ready about 45 minutes later and by 6:20, the clerk was calling my phone to ensure that I understood that my order was ready. There was another ham slice same size, weight that had the price label, but I didn't like the way it looked, so I asked, let me keep what I have and take the other one up for the price. Ana did not like that and said the butcher has to make one for mine. Remember it's the same size/weight as the other ham which was $5.something. So Ana and the butcher with the black hair/beard took Forever putting a label. Finally after 10 minutes (yes at least 10 minutes). Ana had the audacity to give me the ham back that was $7 something up charge. Now remember the other ham same size/weight and was only $5. That's how they treat customers, sorry to bother you. A Safeway with a gasoline station? Costco surely got competition. I find this location easy to get to. Hard to find parking with the gasoline station there. Long line to get gas. The store has recently been updated to a smaller version of the new "Modern" style with smaller than usual aisle markers, which only have 3 items displayed at most. This makes it more difficult for people unfamiliar with the store to find what they are looking for. Even though this Safeway features a gas station, the people who hang around the store and harass people make this one place you'd not want to go to. read more

Only took $16 and some change to get me back to full with using my points. Knocked off 30 cents on the dollar. I normally avoid this place because it's typically a giant clustersf*ck of a Safeway. But often, I go here when I need to because I'm like around the corner and it's open 24-hours. The highlight of my experience is Ms Billie. She is the exemplary level of guest service clerk I've experienced. She puts up with a lot of really sh*tty people but she does it with a smile. This is a very disappointing Safeway. I'm not sure what kind of salary these employees draw, but it must be next to nothing. Maybe they don't pay them enough to have decent personalities, or be friendly towards the customer. I've only encountered one or two employees that are friendly, the rest are usually very sullen and WILL NOT make eye contact, smile, say hi or thank you for shopping with us. But let's get to the real meat, the deli meat. I have never seen a more disorganized, grumpy, abysmal station in my life. These employees act as if they drew the last straw to work the deli counter. They make sandwiches like it's a chore and not their job. And the "ingredients". I'd like to know how you're always out of cheeses when you are a grocery store? How are you always out of red onions when you're next to the produce? Most folks, like myself are on a lunch break and that only makes them make sandwiches SLOWER. My gripes with this gas station mostly have to do with its poor setup. It's not a one-star because at least the gas is cheap due to the vagaries of the Safeway Club Card program (all of that consumer-behavior tracking/control is valuable to Mr. Safeway). As for the setup: there are two lines, but you have to queue up according to which side of your car the gas cap is on, meaning that one line can be really short, but you're stuck in the longer one because of how your car is built. The line is very slow, even though there are four pumps on each side - it seems this is at least in part because the majority of people who use this station use cash and take an extra long time lining up (again) just to pay for their gas. There's also not much room allotted to the pumping station relative to the grocery store, meaning that if the line exceeds two cars (which it always has the two times I've tried to use the station), it overflows into the store parking lot, blocking in parked cars, and thereby frustrating shoppers and pumpers alike. Pumpers like to pump, and shoppers like to shop. This gas station makes it difficult to do either. read more

The two things that suck are hardly deal breakers - there's no bathroom (guess you have to go in the store or in the bushes) and the dumb way the pumps are lined up single file so that there's never a wait if your tank is on your right and there's always a line for the vast majority of people with cars who pump from the left. Safeway is cheating it's Customers on their deli salads. Each salad container states 4 1/2 cups when in actuality photos show the salads are only 2 cups (see 6 photos taken on different days). I have brought this to the attention of the store manager who said he will notify the proper people. Safeway did not correct weights and measures but only enlarged the packaging. Well, the first thing you notice is that this Safeway is small, super small, it just doesn't seem like a Safeway. So the selection is very limited. After a bit of wandering I felt nature calling. So I proceeded to go handle that. Upon entering the restroom I realised that this was quite possibly one of these most filthy restrooms I've ever been in! There's TP and several unknown fluids all over the stalls; it's very easy to tell that they do NOT clean the restrooms at all. Honestly, the restrooms at the Pier 39 in San Francisco are cleaner!!! When you are paying a premium for a better shopping environment you are well within your right to receive it, here you do not get that. read more
