Tried out the grocery delivery using the Safeway app. At first glance it seemed like a good idea, but during checkout I noticed the estimated total amount changed three times to a higher amount but the fees stayed the same, so it was confusing even after clipping coupons. In the end I was charged a larger amount than what was anticipated and they did not send me the final invoice (with the higher different amount) until after my card was charged. I was a disappointed by that since I like transparency before a transaction. Overall the driver was on time, polite, the groceries were fresh, watermelon was ripe and the delivery fee was about six bucks. Might just go in person next time even though it's a bit of a distance. read more

Horrible service at the bakery today. The lady did not want to help us order a cake and told us that they couldn't do whipped cream on the cake we wanted. Claimed they could only do buttercream and when I told her that was a lie bc I have ordered from here before, she went to the back and came back saying they did not have any whipped cream. She then asked when we needed the cake for and I told her Saturday, she then proceeded to say that they needed at least 10 days in advanced!! So much nope. There are never any employees around at this store. I used to work right across the street from this location, which made it convenient. After experiencing the sub-par customer service, I made it a habit to seek out different grocery stores. Whether you're at the deli or the service desk, expect a wait, and to have to actively seek out an employee even during busy times. One particular time at the service desk stands out. I stood by there for about three minutes, during which time at least two employees clearly saw me, even made eye contact. Did they make an attempt to say, "oh, someone will be right with you" before finding someone to staff the service desk? No. Did they even acknowledge my presence? No. I finally asked an employee at a nearby cash register if someone could come help me. I got a blank, bored stare in response as he halfheartedly picked up a nearby phone and called another employee, after which it took about 5 more minutes for someone to FINALLY show up and assist me. I've had similar experiences at the deli at this location as well. Bottom line: if you are just going in and out for a quick item that you wish to pay for at self-checkout, this location might be a good choice. But if you are hoping for any human assistance or semblance of customer service whatsoever, skip this Safeway. read more

If I could upload a picture I would. However I was shopping in Safeway today around 1230. There was a guy with a black dog on a leash in the store. The dog was walking behind the guy. The guy kept pulling on the leash. Well if the guy would've turned around he would've noticed that the dog was dropping poop nuggets all over the floor. A customer then proceeded to step on one and skidded it across the floor. People wonder why sickness goes around. They shouldn't allow animals other than service animals. I moved to the neighborhood about five years ago. I was so excited to accidentally find this store. It's one of the biggest supermarkets in Colorado and I just love the variety Their produce is nice and really fresh, which is a real plus. The only thing I wish is that this Safeway would carry the Fresh Pet products. I have three dogs who dine on this food. Please consider adding it to your product line. This place NEVER answers the phone. I just want to be transferred to the pharmacy to check on a prescription, but they won't even answer the phone to let me do so. Now I have to go up there, and will have to wait for them to fill it OR have them tell me to come back another day. Absolute travesty of a grocery store. Also, just to make this clear, the pharmacy people are always SO nice; so it's not them who are not answering phones. It's the main line to the grocery store that never gets answered. This is the 6th month in a row I've had this problem and I've even addressed it with the "manager" (I think they were lying about who the manager was) who ASSURED me it would never happen again. Do I recommend this place? No. They absolutely suck. Sometimes I can even hear them pick up the phone and hang it up on me. WHO DOES THAT!? My 2 year old can answer a phone and say hello; so she must be smarter than the people working at this store. Dawn, it won't let me reply to you but I have already been thru that process 4-5 times; that's what y'all tell me to do every time and yet STILL, nothing has changed. I prefer this location to the other locations nearby - and I pass a King Soopers and Albertsons to get here. It's a clean, well stocked and organized store. The guys in the meat & seafood department are great! At one point, we were asking a lot of questions about their tuna, and they just wrapped some up for free for us to try at home. Their beef is always fresh (red like they just sliced it) and grills really nicely. Produce is also pretty good. My only complaint in the past year of frequenting this Safeway is the lack of open check-outs sometimes. On one occasion, I had a basket full of groceries (about $150 worth) and the only lane that was open was the self-checkout and express lane. I scooted into the express lane and was promptly told by the cashier that I'd have to go through self-checkout. I steamed about this for about a month before I returned and complained to management about it. Of course, they apologized, but blamed the situation on a shift manager that was no longer employed there. read more

The Safeway Pharmacy at the Thornton Parkway location is straight up tragic. I have filled my prescriptions here twice, and attempted one more time, and I am now officially giving up. Even for prescriptions called in ahead of time, the wait has been 15-45 minutes in the line (even if you're the only one in line), and another hour to actually fill the prescription. An HOUR for a prescription that was called in! The staff is completely untrained on their own system, and has been completely baffled by it three months in a row. The last straw was when they told me that they couldn't fill my prescription (after I waited in the line and then again an hour for the actual putting it in a bag), because their system hadn't been updated. This is the worst pharmacy I have ever encountered, hands down. read more

We will not be going back to Safeway again. The last two purchases of fresh salmon and flat iron steak where so tasteless that we threw the leftovers away. We had stopped going to Safeway years ago because of a bad customer service experience. We decided to try them once again. We bought the fresh salmon on sale and the following week we bought the Flatiron steak which was also on sale. Both purchases had zero flavor. We don't understand how that is possible but we will not be going back there again. We gave them two stars, instead of zero,, only because the store was clean, the people were friendly, and they finally added self-check aisles. read more

Bought three types of sushi here, two of them were great, but the third one was rotten. It tasted foul, and had gone bad. That's not the big problem though, the big problem is that when we called in, the first person did not apologize at any point, and just said to bring in the receipt to get our money back. They did not express any concern that they were serving rotten Sushi to people, or that they would check and make sure that the rest of their stock was safe. I called back and requested to talk to a manager, who also did not apologize, and did not seem at all concerned. I get that sometimes things go wrong with food. I've had things go wrong with my own food. But the very first thing that you learn when you work with serving people stuff that they eat, is that if they come to you because something is rotten, or wrong, apologize. I would have rated my experience at this Safeway 5 stars as this is my go to place for lunch and breaks from across the parking lot, but that has quickly changed after overhearing multiple times the same employee, (from what I later discovered is the store manager Alicia Martinez) , being verbally aggressive towards other employees. I overheard this discussion near the sushi bar, and what seemed to be coming from the bakery side. This is not once nor twice I've heard this specific individual being so disrespectful towards her teammates. It's been by far too many. This is plain disrespectful, unprofessional and overwhelming to be hearing such discussions, especially with the strong verbiage she uses towards others. With this being one of the multiple occasions I have overheard her it personally lead me to go to customer service to be provided with information as to someone higher above her to put in a complaint in regards to her inhumane treatment towards her teammates but was denied information by her very self... I really hope this problem is taking care. Would hate to see this store go more understaffed. read more

Overrated. I'm obviously disable. Everytime I go in there, they have NO WORKING electric carts. Last time, one crapped out on me! This time I went to the "Service" Desk, more like lacking "service" desk. She said, "Sorry ma'am. You'll have to check them out."!!!!!!!! Called the Manager, Heather, same crap. Good CS stems from management. I told her "Without customers, you don't have a paycheck!" She was spouting back, CLICK. Same goes for the 103rd and Federal location, actually EVEN worse. The CSR's were my age. Ya, they got the finger as I walked out, yelling with my cane. If only....I really wanted to show them the bottom of my cane. Lol. This will have to work instead. In my my last two visits to this store I have had to wait for one employee to finish texting to move out of a parking spot to park, had another shrug their shoulders when asked where an item was located in the store and wait for a checker to finish texting to total my order. The pharmacy has always been my favorite in this area. The store is clean and stocked fairly well. However I would suggest that you make sure that you get all the groceries you pay for. It's not uncommon to get home without everything. I've also had to return groceries that belong to the person in front of me ,in hopes that they realized that they were missing. read more

I moved to the area about 6 months ago and can now say that I have tried all of the grocery stores around and this is my favorite for all of my general grocery needs. What has made this place my pick is that it's cleaner than all the other stores in the area and while it's a mass grocery chain (what store isn't these days, really?!?) they still offer personal touches. I have a habit of losing my card and changing my phone.... thus forgetting my phone numbers... and I have never had a problem with the staff (guess the previous poster was in on someone's bad day?) and the meat department and the bakery department staff is always courteous and professional. I have had to make special orders from both departments and my orders have always been on time and to my specifications. Once I forgot my credit card and wallet at home and realized only when I got in the checkout lane and the woman asked me if anyone was at home... which there was... and she let me call them (my husband) and get the card number to process so I didn't have to go home, get it, then come back. That in itself was pretty awesome! The store manager takes requests for ordering items that aren't in stock or not typically carried and the staff in general so far hasn't let me down. I have shopped at this Safeway since it opened. It has gone down hill over the last year!! The parking lot has a lot of trash and filth, The concrete along the front part of the store is disgusting and stained with filth. The bathrooms are never clean. There is no pride of ownership with this store. It seems they changed new managers and this one is NOT attentive. The carts have recently improved. I have complained 3 times now about a man who sits on Safeway's property, on a picnic bench. He has been drunk and even openly drinking during the day. The Safeway management seems very uninterested, stating they have never noticed him...Wow you work there open your eyes. Stating they will call Thornton Police but nothing improves. I guess they are not concerned about safety. I'm concerned and want to see improvement. Just because this is not a high income neighborhood does not mean we can't have pride. read more

I'm only writing this review because of how I felt after leaving the store, ok yes this was the same week as Christmas. Yes holidays are a nightmare, yes retail is difficult no matter what, but this was uncalled for. I went in for a simple gallon of milk. I picked it up and went right away to check out. This woman, seemingly already miserable ok yes we're all miserable it's Christmas , was open and ready for someone. I was rung up and saw the price was different. I of course, have a safeway card. I almost forgot to put my number in and when she saw my face she should have asked me for my phone number. Of course she didn't and I entered my number anyway, it adjusted the price and I proceeded to swipe my card. It was acting up for some reason and I asked her if my card went through. She was about 5 steps behind me and only told me that If I had a safeway card I can put my phone number in. Ok that would have been helpful at the beginning of our conversation. I had to start over and swiped my card again. It finally went through and she immediately turned away from me and started having a conversation with a co -worker. I understand the need to communicate and so I just waited a minute. Then of course when the screen said thank you transaction complete and my receipt printed I assumed she was going to multitask and hand me my receipt and ask If I needed a bag. Nope nothing. She just stood there talking to someone else. I finally had enough seeing that the line was forming after me, I just leaned over grabbed my own receipt and then leaned way over the counter to get my milk. No assistance what so ever .. just standing there making me feel like a royal a**hole. I get that people are overworked under appreciated and not paid worth a damn, I live in the United States. But still , I would be fired on the spot if I blatantly ignored a customer to have a conversation with someone in the middle of a transaction! Completely uncalled for and I was shocked considering I usually have good service when I come here. I got a sub from the deli section, it was very disappointing. No one was friendly behind the counter, even though employees walked by us, but did not help us. All the product like the vegetables looked rotten! Only got 2 types of veggies on my sub because they were so nasty looking. Then the employee making my sub couldn't handle wrap the sub with tap and paper. I had to offer suggestions to keep it closed. Safeway you need to have more pride in your work and provide better training for your employees. I as well work in food costumer service and as of now your deli costumer service is terrble.
