Natural Grocers originally was originally called Vitamin Cottage, and is a Colorado company that carries only organic food. I have been a loyal customer since their beginning. I just wish they had built a bigger store on Kipling in Arvada. I really was and am disappointed by that decision!! read more

Most things about this store are OK. I don't get down to this store often, but when I do, I sometimes buy frozen pies there. The pies are good, but the checkers are NOT TRAINED on how to pack a pie into a grocery bag. They always put the pies ON THEIR SIDES, and even have packed a frozen pie UPSIDE DOWN in my bag TWICE. Would you pack a wedding cake on it's side? Someone train your clumsy, idiot packers not to pack pies on their sides? Pies are meant to be packed FLAT with the TOP UP, like a wedding cake. I had a great first experience here. Although I wouldn't shop here for everything on my grocery list, I may have to start shopping here for my produce and meat. What an attractive selection! I'm always nervous shopping at places such as this, Sunflower and Whole Foods. Sometimes I get that feeling like I'm not trendy or granola enough to shop at these places - almost like people can stare through your soul and see that toxic twinkie you ate 5 years ago. I didn't feel any judgment stares here. In fact, I had three different employees approach me and ask if I needed assistance. Luckily, I did need the help and they were very very helpful. I wouldn't mind fitting this place in to my grocery shopping routine. Note: If you're a Vitamin Cottage noob like I was, they do not supply grocery bags at check out. Perhaps I'm not Natural Grocers' ideal customer. Because I agree wholeheartedly with Alden C's review below. I was expecting (Largely due to their obnoxious television commercials) a NATURAL GROCERY store. (Hence: Natural Grocers. And does it bother anyone else the way she says "Grow-SHhhhhhursh" in the commercials? CRIKEY!) And like Alden C below says, this is a Vitamin Store. Their meat selection consists of a small reach-in freezer, and their produce is lacking in selection and quality and high in price. That is the gist of their "Grocery" selection. Everything else is Vitamins. (Hence: Vitamin Cottage. So drop the "Natural Grocers" and save the confusion.) Also: This place was downright dingy. It had a funky smell, and the floors were actually dirty. Lastly (and completely unrelated to my rating)... Maybe nix that Sock Hop attempt at dancing you do in the latest TV Spot, honey. No matter how much plastic surg... I mean, how many VITAMINS you gobble, you're not still 16. And it's not 1955 anymore. read more

This Natural Grocer location is easy to get to. There was a lot of parking available mid-morning during the week. I was in the vitamin area and an employee asked me if I needed help, and actually knew of what I wanted and where to find it. My daughter and I wandered around the store, looking at the stuff they had. One thing that I did notice (because I was looking out for it), is that they had their coconut oil in 2 or 3 different places throughout the store. It makes comparing prices a little more difficult. Have you ever spent a significant time living in Europe? Returning to US supermarkets and grocery stores are an overwhelming experience, at least for me. Natural Grocers makes me feel more comfortable. They're small, but carry a wide range of products. Even the wide range feels small; there's never an overwhelming amount of any particular product type. Everything is well organized and categorized with good signage. I also like Natural Grocers because they always have good sales going on. Also, their bottled water and Clif Bar beat many other comparable stores' prices. They also carry other products, like Oskri bars, you may not see anywhere else or have only seen in Europe. read more

I've stopped in here a few times and I'm amazed by two things, What they have in this little cottage and the fact everyone who works here, knows where everything is. Not as abundant as a Whole Foods or Wild Oats (or even a bigger Vitamin Cottage like the Parker Rd. loc.) this grocery store tucked into a shoppette next to a good coffee shop (Novo) and a Great Harvest Bread shop none the less fills the bill when that essential healthy alternative grocery item is needed. From baking needs, to fresh produce, to even cheaper than King's milk (by 70 cents for the same 1/2 gal.) it's nice to have good food this close. I have family that lives in the area and we come to visit at least 4 times a year and I have noticed that they have a great dairy department!!! I love when I can just walk up to the cooler and not worry about grabbing an expired product! I hate having to search around for the expiration date on yogurts!!! But when ever I shop at THIS store I love that I never have to waste time checking dates! I have also noticed that one employee there... He is always in the dairy department when I am shopping he is very knowledgeable about the products (my daughter is always on a new diet... one day it is only soy or the next day she is no gluten... and he always has the information I need to keep her satisfied). The people are always so friendly and helpful. Produce always looks great. My 10 year old daughter loves to hang out and smell all the lotions and soaps. My son loves to help us pick out the produce and food. Honey sticks are his favorite. When I shop here I know I'm getting natural and organic food items. At Whole Foods, I have to be careful to read all the ingredients. I think Vitamin Cottage started out on Ellsworth or something in Cherry Creek. read more

I came here to return some heartburn medication that my hubby tried but didn't work. Overall, fast and prompt customer care, but the return policy for Natural Grocers is such a hassle, and requires your SSN, your birthplace, a fingerprint, a secret and an arm or leg. The pace of your return also heavily relies on the cashier itself. Some of them have the courtesy of filling out the form for you and making you feel happy and loved. But this cashier was complaining about going to lunch 10 minutes late. Boohoo dee doo. Obviously a joke, but not really. I am not a fan of signing a paragraph just to return anything and everything. They never answer their phone, or so it seems. Have called several times, sometimes very late in the day when they should be less busy. Also, seems like their prices keep going up and up. Pretty soon, they will be just like Whole Paycheck (that is, Whole Foods) for high prices. read more

When I went here I was expecting a store like Wild Oats AKA Whole Foods. That is not what I found. Much of the aisles are filled with vitamins and in the corner is produce. Hence Vitamin Cottage. If you are looking for a certain kind of vitamin I am sure they would have it and then some but if you have any misconceptions that they are a 'health food store; think again, they are a 'vitamin store'. read more

After 40+ years of going to Vitamin Cottage -- I'm done. 18 minutes to do an exchange? That is the time stamp difference on the two receipts. it is a long complicated tale of 3 --- Yes, 3 people that work there could not figure out (after being told repeatedly) I bought the wrong Item (my fault) and need to pay for the correct item and OWED THEM MONEY. It was simply too much for any of them to process. There have been plenty of issues in the past with this location. But not to the point of writing Corporate and Swearing of VC forever. And the past issues I feel correct themselves in time. Employees that are unhappy and take it out on customers either quit or get fired. BUT!! I have seriously NEVER had an issue of Trying to Convince a Business that I OWE them Money. Sprouts Gladly takes my money with no questions. :) read more

This is my favorite local grocery store. They carry quite a few of my favorite things such as organic whole coconuts from Thailand. The best selection of good quality chocolate and very good quality farm fresh pasture raised eggs that are not overly priced. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. The other evening I was there and I forgot to grab unsalted butter and the cashier offered to go get it for me. That's just such great customer service. read more

I've been shopping at NG for 40+years and they have always been great in the organic products in general market. In the last few years I have realized that they are remarkably more expensive than organic sections in other stores. Although many items are comparable the produce is wAy too pricey. Also, the commercials are really bad. I feel embarrassed for those women every time I see them. Please be more professional and tasteful! I do all of my major shopping at this Vitamin Cottage location. The staff is always pleasant and several of them have been around for several years. I love to slowly browse through the cosmetic and body product section, slowly making my way through the produce, onto the prepared sandwiches, salads, or wraps and then actually get going with my real shopping. They carry a good variety of packaged Applegate Farms organic & non-organic deli meats, a wealth of bulk spices, nuts, fruits, and other items. Many of their items are cheaper than comparable items at King Soopers or Whole Foods. There is a new Sunflower market across the street which has comparable prices to Vitamin Cottage, but I prefer that Vitamin Cottage's produce is 100% organic. I love buying the Dimmer's brand soudough bread, the Just Desserts cakes, and you can' t go wrong with ground buffalo at $3.99/lb! Look for it in the frozen food section. read more

I love this place! Amazing selection of rare items you can't get just anywhere. I love their cosmetic and beauty products as well as their vast selection of hippie approved foods. They have really good customer service, although the last few times I came in they were either too busy to approach me or maybe they have seen me there so many times they know I'm familiar with the store and know where everything is. Much better prices than @ Whole Foods, and when they are running a sale...wow, really great prices - esp. on healthy snack foods. If you are looking for healthy beauty products, sun screen, etc, they have a better selection and much better prices than other stores (like WF). The folks working there are OK, some are quirky and some are more friendly than others. I do, however, find the produce and meat selection too small and the entire store is too dark - it feels rather depressing. It's also surprisingly cold in there. read more

This store does not hold a candle to Sprouts (which is right across the street). It is NOT a grocery store at all. Sure, there are a few things, but not enough to serve anyone. Then when you buy something (which is rare) they won't give you a bag. They make you dispose of their garbage by MAYBE offering you a box. NO THANKS! It's tacky. Going "green" is great, but not at the expense of customer service. The parking is less than ideal. Save yourself some time and shop at a REAL store...Sprouts. read more

Just had such a disappointing experience at this natural grocers. It's sad because normally I really like a lot of what they stand for. However, I recently purchased a marked down "malk" brand cashew milk that normally sells for $6.39. Quite expensive for 28 oz. However, it was on sale for the price of $4.99 but expired the next day. Still a hefty price tag for a small container. I figured I would have 2 days to consume the product before it should be "bad" according to the expiration date. Unfortunately, the day I purchased the product it was already sour tasting. I have had this product in the past so I know what it is suppose to taste like and this was definitely already rancid. I attempted to return the product today and was told that because it had been marked down the customer took on the responsibility of the product and they couldn't do anything for me. Of course I understand that I chose to purchase something on sale however I didn't realize that I was purchasing a product that had already gone rancid and I certainly didn't realize that if I purchased a product they sold that wasn't even drinkable that I would be unable to return it. In fact, the only option I was given was to "throw it out". Thanks natural grocers. Way to stand behind your products. You just lost a customer. Why would I shop somewhere that sells products that have spoiled and tells you that it's your fault for buying them? With so many other options to choose from for organic groceries and supplements, I think I will give my money to a place that actually values their customers. read more
