Heinie's is a godsend if you're looking for great produce and unique grocery items you won't find at the regular supermarkets. The selection is always interesting, and the quality of the produce is so much better than what I've found at the nearby King Soopers on Youngfield. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they do roast green chiles right on site. The only downside is that the parking lot is pretty small and can get busy at times, but it's a small price to pay for having a place like this nearby. Definitely one of my go-to spots for fresh produce and specialty items! read more

How is it that I have lived so close to Heinie's but have never stopped in? 10+ years of living in Arvada and I feel like I have missed out. With all the crazy recalls, I wanted to find some local selling produce. My neighbor frequents Heinie's so I thought I would give it a try. Rolled in on a Friday early afternoon (1ish) and it was filled with handful of elderly (just my pace!). Several different kinds of peaches (my hubby loves the yellow kind), I picked up several colors of carrots, the Nonna sourdough bread (sooooo good!), several heads of lettuce, a jar of tapenade and a frozen blueberry pie to bake at home. They had a whole wall of honeys and everything you can pickle, some great smoked meats, accessories for canning, a great popcorn popping supply area, a great selection of Italian pastas, open stock beans, breads and their products selection is really great. I can't believe I wasted 10 years of my life not going here! Brought the peaches home to my hubby and they said they were so juicy and delicious.. we went back a couple days later and bought a bunch more. They were delicious! And the frozen blueberry pie was so delicious too! This place is awesome! It's like Arvada's best kept secret! I'll be frequenting here more often! read more

Heinie's is an interesting place, a little pricey but the fruits and vegetables are supposed to be locally grown and organic (I think) but this time we went for the roasted green chili. In the past they were good for the chili. The little woman and I went to 3 other roasters, all of whom we had done business with before and been satisfied. This year there was a drought in New Mexico's Hatch Valley and a very hot growing season was so the chili and the farmers suffered. Not sure what everyone was selling but it was advertised in all these places in Colorado as "Hatch Green Chili" but in all our stops to include Heinies the chili was very thick, tasteless, odorless and the texture was like boiled Egg plant and I had to deal with returning all the chili we bought to include Lulu's farm in order to get a refund. At Heinies I just happened to walk in while the guy was roasting Hatch Medium and I tasted it right out of the roaster and in front of about 10 people. I made a statement and walked out...I guess no green chili this year.. read more

Produce looked a lot better than most grocery stores. Kinda of pricey but willing to pay a bit more for better produce. The staff were very friendly. The only complaint I do have is when buying bushels of chilies to be roasted it needs to be roasted a bit longer especially if you pay for water well roasting so it would be easier to peel. Other than the bushels of chilies not being roasted long enough I would definitely shop here for my produce and the friendly staff. read more

I needed to compliment our experience at Heinies. We are visiting from the Midwest and coincidentally we're looking for palisade peaches to take home. We asked this very nice lady for advice on what were the best and how to transport. She went to the back room and specifically selected less ripe peaches and boxed them special for our trip. We found many amazing home grown and baked goods yet the real shiny star was the helpful person that we realized upon leaving was the co-owner. Can't believe I haven't dropped a review for Heinie's Market. This is THE market for natives to get their green chilis. I'm not a native but I got this tip from a native - her family has been coming here for decades to get their box of green chilis annually. It sometimes can be hit or miss if you come later in the day, they could sell out on popular, in-season produce. I love their garlic bulb braids, get the one that has slightly purple tint on them, they are garlicky spicy and last a long time - perfect for the grill then smeared on toasty bread. I also have gotten delicious Hinman Pie in their freezer section, gazillion flavors of cheese curds, lots of local pickled food and delicious hot sauces. Service has always been great if I didn't know how to pick a type of produce - I'd get my questions answered. Love all the local items and non local items will be labeled as well. Overall just a great place to come check out while supporting local business. Stop by Edward's Meats before or after Heinie's for meal prepping too. Oh btw Heinie's also do Fall Pumpkins set up for photo ops too if you have little ones. Come get a pumpkin and take some photos, and pick up some produce while you're at it! read more

I've been going to Heinies Market since my mother found it in the 90's. That may sound like a long time ago, but this little market has been in business since the 1950's; a family affair that seems to be still going strong. Every year I anticipate the summer when I can find their fresh Colorado produce, from Olathe and Brighton corn to Palisade cherries to tomatoes and peaches bigger than your fist. Locally homegrown veggies like peppers and broccoli abound throughout summer. In August, you can linger to enjoy the comforting smell of Pueblo and Hatch peppers roasting onsite. Buy a 2lb. baggie to indulge your capsaicin fix, from mild to the EXTRA HOT Barkers. Time from green chile! Fall brings apples and pears of all kinds from the Colorado Western slope. These beauties are not always super-large, like their peach counterparts tend to be, but they are crisp and juicy--can't be found like this in the grocery store. Truly my favorite product to pick up at Heinies, though, is their Village Pie Maker pies. If you can find these pies and you're a pie lover, there is no need to make a pie again. These bake-from-frozen treats are all-natural with plenty of real fruit, and the crust is to die for. You may find these pies elsewhere, but Heinies has the full spectrum of flavors--Apple, Cherry, Peach, of course, but also Blueberry, Raspberry-Peach, Mixed Berry, Rhubarb, Strawberry-Rhubarb, Apple-Cranberry-Walnut, and I've even gotten a Gooseberry there, although I'm not sure that flavor is still being made. My favorites are Peach, Raspberry-Peach, Mixed Berry and Apple-Cranberry-Walnut. I always have a Village Pie Maker pie on my counter. Today's is a 1/2-eaten mixed berry--easily reheated in the oven for the next serving. As cannot be avoided in these times, Heinie's prices have edged up, but it's hard to disparage the healthiness of their local organic food. Get there today! read more

A bag of Palisade peaches was WAY overpriced, and they cost me over $30 for less than half a dozen large-sized peaches! The peaches were not juicy but dry and mushy. I was disappointed, and I expected a better quality for their outrageous prices. I used to live in Grand Junction near Palisade and I attended the Palisade Peach Festival for many years. But I know that in Japan they are sold for $50 for a single peach shipped overseas, which is considered a delicacy because of their tart red centers. read more

I am not impressed with Heinies Market's quality or knowledgeable staff. I bought peeled garlic only two days before using it and stored it in the fridge. By the time I got to it, it had molded over and was rotten. I have also asked staff some questions about some of the produce and they have never been able to directly answer my question. I love local farmers markets, but I am done going to Heinies. Prices are ok, comparable to others, and quality is usually pretty good. But the red headed gal who works there is a tyrant. I have seen her throwing boxes around and cursing, berating other employees and customers. I have witnessed this behavior from her on multiple visits, this isnt just an employee having one bad day. Today, I was there to buy a case of peaches. She pointed to the display and told me those were $40 per box. So I picked one up and took it to the register. After the checker rung it up, the tyrant came over and berated her because that case was supposed to be charged by the pound. Then she started berating me like I was trying to steal something. I will never go back to that store unless a manager or owner replies to this review with some reasonable explanation of this employees behavior. read more

Hey, 1952 called and said not to change a thing! We went to a different farmer's market and saw that it had unexpectedly closed early. This was a happy replacement. Everything is organic and uber fresh. We bought our week's produce and some of it even had the farm dirt still on it. We got zucchini, carrots, watermelon, canteloupe, corn and tons of other yummies. The prices are more reasonable than they should be. The front half is produce and the back half is baked and canned products. It reminded me of treats that would have been served at a 1950's picnic or church potluck. The check out staff was so friendly. This is quite a trek for us to come to and we can't wait to come back! read more

I have been going to this market since they were across the street in a rather dismal building! The corn that is delivered to them is the best in the West. Four stars alone just because they carry my beloved Pop Shoppe! We came here because we saw it posted on Facebook that they carry Pop Shoppe and were not disappointed! FULL cases for only $30! Refrigerated bottles only $1.50! Amazing prices! I have been looking for a local supplier since World Market discontinued selling it and Rocket Fizz downtown was a bit pricey. This definitely takes me back to my youth in the 70's when Pop Shoppe had a full store on Youngfield where Applejack Liqours is located. Heinie's Market is keeping the 70's nostagia alive!
