Can't believe I haven't dropped a review for Heinie's Market. This is THE market for natives to get their green chilis. I'm not a native but I got this tip from a native - her family has been coming here for decades to get their box of green chilis annually. It sometimes can be hit or miss if you come later in the day, they could sell out on popular, in-season produce. I love their garlic bulb braids, get the one that has slightly purple tint on them, they are garlicky spicy and last a long time - perfect for the grill then smeared on toasty bread. I also have gotten delicious Hinman Pie in their freezer section, gazillion flavors of cheese curds, lots of local pickled food and delicious hot sauces. Service has always been great if I didn't know how to pick a type of produce - I'd get my questions answered. Love all the local items and non local items will be labeled as well. Overall just a great place to come check out while supporting local business. Stop by Edward's Meats before or after Heinie's for meal prepping too. Oh btw Heinie's also do Fall Pumpkins set up for photo ops too if you have little ones. Come get a pumpkin and take some photos, and pick up some produce while you're at it! read more

I've been going to Heinies Market since my mother found it in the 90's. That may sound like a long time ago, but this little market has been in business since the 1950's; a family affair that seems to be still going strong. Every year I anticipate the summer when I can find their fresh Colorado produce, from Olathe and Brighton corn to Palisade cherries to tomatoes and peaches bigger than your fist. Locally homegrown veggies like peppers and broccoli abound throughout summer. In August, you can linger to enjoy the comforting smell of Pueblo and Hatch peppers roasting onsite. Buy a 2lb. baggie to indulge your capsaicin fix, from mild to the EXTRA HOT Barkers. Time from green chile! Fall brings apples and pears of all kinds from the Colorado Western slope. These beauties are not always super-large, like their peach counterparts tend to be, but they are crisp and juicy--can't be found like this in the grocery store. Truly my favorite product to pick up at Heinies, though, is their Village Pie Maker pies. If you can find these pies and you're a pie lover, there is no need to make a pie again. These bake-from-frozen treats are all-natural with plenty of real fruit, and the crust is to die for. You may find these pies elsewhere, but Heinies has the full spectrum of flavors--Apple, Cherry, Peach, of course, but also Blueberry, Raspberry-Peach, Mixed Berry, Rhubarb, Strawberry-Rhubarb, Apple-Cranberry-Walnut, and I've even gotten a Gooseberry there, although I'm not sure that flavor is still being made. My favorites are Peach, Raspberry-Peach, Mixed Berry and Apple-Cranberry-Walnut. I always have a Village Pie Maker pie on my counter. Today's is a 1/2-eaten mixed berry--easily reheated in the oven for the next serving. As cannot be avoided in these times, Heinie's prices have edged up, but it's hard to disparage the healthiness of their local organic food. Get there today! read more

A bag of Palisade peaches was WAY overpriced, and they cost me over $30 for less than half a dozen large-sized peaches! The peaches were not juicy but dry and mushy. I was disappointed, and I expected a better quality for their outrageous prices. I used to live in Grand Junction near Palisade and I attended the Palisade Peach Festival for many years. But I know that in Japan they are sold for $50 for a single peach shipped overseas, which is considered a delicacy because of their tart red centers. read more

This is a great place to pick up a Hinman fruit pie as they are top notch. Otherwise, it is extremely overpriced. During my brief jaunt there last weekend, I saw $1.25 for an ear of corn, $3 for an avocado and $4/lb. for peaches. Last year, it was $4 for an avocado. And these items aren't classified as organic. I'd likely wince at that pricing. read more

From the peaches and corn to the roasted chile's...and the apples, the dried beans, salsa, 100s of varieties of pop, popcorn, jams and jellies...and don't forget the $2 basket deals. By the time I got to it, it had molded over and was rotten. I have also asked staff some questions about some of the produce and they have never been able to directly answer my question. I love local farmers markets, but I am done going to Heinies. Prices are ok, comparable to others, and quality is usually pretty good. But the red headed gal who works there is a tyrant. I have seen her throwing boxes around and cursing, berating other employees and customers. I have witnessed this behavior from her on multiple visits, this isnt just an employee having one bad day. Today, I was there to buy a case of peaches. She pointed to the display and told me those were $40 per box. So I picked one up and took it to the register. After the checker rung it up, the tyrant came over and berated her because that case was supposed to be charged by the pound. Then she started berating me like I was trying to steal something. I will never go back to that store unless a manager or owner replies to this review with some reasonable explanation of this employees behavior. read more

Hey, 1952 called and said not to change a thing! We went to a different farmer's market and saw that it had unexpectedly closed early. This was a happy replacement. Everything is organic and uber fresh. We bought our week's produce and some of it even had the farm dirt still on it. We got zucchini, carrots, watermelon, canteloupe, corn and tons of other yummies. The prices are more reasonable than they should be. The front half is produce and the back half is baked and canned products. It reminded me of treats that would have been served at a 1950's picnic or church potluck. The check out staff was so friendly. This is quite a trek for us to come to and we can't wait to come back! read more

I love the local farmer's markets but I can't always drag myself out of bed first thing in the morning to get there early, Heinie's is the answer! In addition to a ton of homegrown items they bring in lots of local produce to choose and in the summer they're open 7 days a week Are you looking for stone fruit? Right now they have more varieties of plums than I know what to do with. They roast a huge variety of chilis on site and can you say homegrown cucumbers? How about kohlrabi? Rocky Ford melons? We first found Heinie's about six years ago and have been visiting them for our Christmas tree needs our pumpkins and every other reason we can find to go to the market. I have been going to this market since they were across the street in a rather dismal building! The corn that is delivered to them is the best in the West. The cuc's are so good with the sour cream on them! Now they have delivery. I am now in my 80's and don't drive anymore....so the delivery service is a God send for me! Four stars alone just because they carry my beloved Pop Shoppe! We came here because we saw it posted on Facebook that they carry Pop Shoppe and were not disappointed! FULL cases for only $30! Refrigerated bottles only $1.50! Amazing prices! I have been looking for a local supplier since World Market discontinued selling it and Rocket Fizz downtown was a bit pricey. This definitely takes me back to my youth in the 70's when Pop Shoppe had a full store on Youngfield where Applejack Liqours is located. Heinie's Market is keeping the 70's nostagia alive! Great fruit and vegetables here. We stop in regularly. We typically bike to this store. They have a unique selection, which may not include what you are looking for, but always have some great items. Not your one stop shop but a great place for fruit and vegetables. They also have a huge selection of artisan soda pop. Those are not for me, but they add to eclectic selection. read more

I like Heinie's Market. It's a small store off 44th and can be easy to miss. I've only been in a handful of times, but I've left happy every time. One time, I got peeled and chopped garlic. I don't think I've ever been to a place that had it (that I was aware of, at least). Another visit, we picked out HUGE pumpkins for carving. They have fresh produce and the place smells good, and not weird like other similar stores can. I'm not sure how often they do it, but at times they have a stand outside to make fresh popcorn and kettle corn. And it's yummy, too! As I recall, the prices are pretty good. And you get what you pay for. I don't believe they have many other things besides produce and other home-grown or home-made stuff, don't don't come here looking for diapers or boxes of cereal. read more

They carry Pop Shoppe! So, we saw that via Social Media and made the trip over to Heinie's Market. This was our first trip, and it was definitely Pre-Season. Lots of empty shelves, and I can't wait to see what they look like filled up with fresh Colorado Produce! This time around, I managed to suck on a Blueberry Honey stick as we wandered, and even came home with a Pickle Cuke and a darn tasty Ripe Mango! (And of course, the Pop Shoppe.) They also have a wall of Local Colorado Whipped Honey (What is Whipped Honey? I'll have to try that on a return trip) as well as shelves and shelves of Hot Sauces, Jams, Jellies and Preserves. Apparently, in Season, they'll have a Popcorn Machine going full-time, churning out Fresh Kettle Corn. Looking forward to that, too. It seems like this would be a blast in the Autumn Harvest season, with Pumpkins and Squashes and Gourds and Hay and Scarecrows everywhere! I had been looking for a blue hubbard sqash for 2 months now, and had been told by every farmers market and grocery store that they had sold the few they had for the season. A friend told me she had seen them at Heinies, so I made my first trip. When I walked in, my eyes popped out of my head at the size of their squashes. not just the hubbards, which are usually large, but all of types of squash were large. The produce looked great as well. I was so excited to check this market out...but I was very bummed once I stepped foot in there. I guess I had high hopes for a marketplace boasting with tons of shoppers looking for fall produce, and a much livelier vibe. Once I stepped in, it was quite the opposite. Dead, dead, and kind of empty? Many shelves empty, produce was sparse. Maybe because I was there in the middle of the afternoon? still it was like 3...4pm. On the plus side, we walked away with a few bags of locally grown apples and some awesome plums that I've never had before...and I took a bite once we drove away...super sweet and reminiscent of a pluot, but more oval in shape. Great Colorado produce at a decent price. Everything is fresh and delicious, and the owners are very nice. Do the community a favor and buy your produce here, your meats @ Edwards, and THEN go to King Soopers for the rest. On a side note, I've purchased the most delicious peaches I've ever eaten in my life from this place. Seriously, drop everything and go by some of those peaches! Also, make sure to buy a bag of their fresh roasted green chilies. YUM. They are closed from January through sometime in late spring, so make sure to call before you go. They sell Christmas trees in December, but stop selling produce sometime in late fall. Sad that I won't be within walking distance from this place anymore. Keep up the good work, y'all! read more
