There are 3 King Soopers in Boulder and Ive been to them all. This one, in my opinion, is the best one. much larger and cleaner than the others, less crowded and ample parking. The aisles are wide enough for two shopping carts to pass each other and the store is well laid out in general. The one thing I always forget is that the city of boulder imposes a fee for shopping bags, so either you have to exit the store with all your items loose in your cart and look like a shoplifter or bring your own reusable bags.

    Sushi! :)

Produce is always good. Good selections for vegetarians. Staff always helpful when I can't find what I am looking for. No complaints.

Mediocre low cost chain with great fresh options. Really beats the liberal Target that resides beside it. Much cheaper as well.

They had to renovate under sad conditions but are a much nicer store and larger than 30th St.

That being said, it is a real shame they have not followed the lead of a major national competitor and removed the sale of cigarettes from their supposed health oriented business plan. They have filled all three levels of this former bookstore facility. The basement level is the vitamin, supplements, first aid and quasi medical supplies that you would find in other chains, offering both national brands and private store brands. Plenty of sizes available which seems to be a failing of the big groceries and discount box stores. There is no prescription pharmacy at this location. Being adjacent to campus, they are serving a population that generally receives University healthcare which includes their own, and very affordable pharmacy. The main level still sells CU gear as before along with school supplies, tech accessories and gift items. There is a grocery section including refrigerated and freezer cases of convenience foods. The upper mezzanine level includes beauty, personal care and household cleaning supplies. On opening day, there was plenty of staff and checkouts on the main floor and the mezzanine. I doubt they will maintain so much staff unless they attract a larger number of customers. The prices are higher than you would find at a destination big box but if you sign up for rewards membership, it becomes far more competitive. This is true of all such health chains. Today my member savings was over $8. Get rid of the cigarettes and I will go up a star!

Parking immediately north of the building, but limited. Easy access from campus via a nearby pedestrian underpass and adjacent to a RTD stop (Broadway & College). Freezer and fridge contains a lot of beverage and food options. Any of your usual needs at a Walgreen's are available, but there is no pharmacy on-site. Clean and very organized. Thankful for Karen, who was so helpful when i was shopping on the top floor.

This one happened to be by my hotel, and it was perfect for me to walk over and pick up some snacks/meals for my trip to Boulder. It was packed in the middle of a Friday afternoon, and has all the things you'd expect. For me that meant some mineral waters, fruit & veggies, yogurt, and yeah, gummy lobsters.. why not. The staff is always friendly here, and I hope that means they take good care of their employees from up in corporate. It certainly seems that way. Always love TJs, always love Boulder, and put them together and it's a win!

There's not much that's low-sodium, for example, like you'd find in a larger grocery store. I was going there for the frozen veggies, which makes life easy with busy kid- schedules. Not always time to pick up fresh produce on the way home. TJs frozen veggies were reliably better than anywhere else. They had really sweet peas, as sweet as sweet corn, that burst in your mouth. Lately, the peas are so dry and tough-skinned they're inedible. The broccoli florets are woody. There have been times over the years they were out of certain frozen veggies, and that seemed disappointing, but it was better then buying a bunch and thinking I had them to feed the kids, but then finding all we had was inedible. The broccoli has been woody for a couple months at least. We stopped buying that, and stocked up on the peas, but now they're gross. Since I went for the frozen veggies (and would just pick up anything else that worked for us there), we don't really have any reason to go unless they get that straightened out. Somebody please give me a heads up if it changes again!

I have to admit, this store favorite is a bit of a mess right now with a large remodel underway…read more But please know, many longtime staff members are keeping track for you to help find what you feel has gotten loss. Some items are now where they should as have been, like peanut butter is now next to jam and jelly jars rather than applesauce and baby disposable diapers! Who ever thought up that choice? But now all the chicken is in sealed packages rather than the fresh case. The staff has offered to open a package to sell only a smaller amount but I wonder how likely they will have time for this? A loss for me as I only buy for two people most of the time. Another change is that the olive bar is stand alone and no longer dished out into containers to grab and go. Much more chance of contamination from a different item from another bin. I still prefer this store for many things though both of the smaller Whole Foods location have a usefulness too. The previous in store location of Birdcall is now gone the the free standing location at Twenty Ninth Street Mall is still open and has seating a parking better than when it served here. It's nice to see staff members still working here for 20 years but also nice that some turnover happens for new energy too. When the remodel is done I will be back with pictures and an evaluation from a shopper's point of view.

But the staff member we met today was surly, rude and unhelpful. That matters. The self serve checkout stalled on our last item and would not scan. We pushed the help button. It took awhile until someone recognized us though we were the only ones in the area. She finally came over and asked the problem. Rather than show us, she kept insisting we were in "surveillance mode" and should just finish the scan. She did not tell us what that was and we still kept trying to scan. We almost left the item and the store but did not have time to go elsewhere. We kept asking what is "surveillance mode" and she said nothing but repeated "surveillance mode." Finally she said push the "OK" button so we did. And then try scanning again. It worked. My husband asked what was surveillance mode and why were we in it? She said he was not bagging fast enough as I scanned! Wow! And that is so unfriendly to customers. This would never happen at King Soopers or Whole Foods. They actually care about their customers' experiences. If I could find these products at the other stores, I would, and buy from them in a heartbeat.
