I was at the Safeway location on 155th & Aurora ave north today and needed help getting something off the top shelf and I saw an employee and nicely asked her if she can help me and said looked at me and said no! I looked at her and said to her, You don't help people in a wheelchair? I told her she was rude! I felt like crying. I left the store empty handed. First time something like this happened here. How can a Safeway store not take a Safeway gift card for an online order? I'm disabled and I don't have a car. The last time I ever buy a gift card for their store. I will go with any other store first. Not all of us are able to get around, you know? We rely on deliveries! Guess the sweet spot is shopping between 10-11 am on a weekday. Calm, clean, well stocked, terrific service. And yes, been a Shoreline shopper for over 18 years. The card section at this Safeway is simply amazing. Not only did I find one perfect birthday card, I found three on a recent shopping adventure. I had been planning to go somewhere else for cards and we stopped for a few groceries for dinner and I had forgotten how good a card section this store has. Perfect place to come and pick up a few groceries and a nice card or two or three. Concerning groceries, there are a wide array of offerings including Safeway specific brands you won't find at other chain grocery stores. Convenient location if you are driving along Aurora Avenue North in Shoreline and want a place to stop with not so expensive prices on food stuff and that doesn't have large sections devoted to other merchandise such as clothes. read more

I live within walking distance, so I want to like this place but it's not easy. I went with my boyfriend to get some Chinese food and as I was telling them which dishes I wanted, my boyfriend saw the guy behind the counter grab a tray with food and sauce remnants on it, and he started putting my chow mein and chicken in it! My boyfriend immediately said something about the dirty tray, and the guy behind the counter said it was still good, and that there was no problem! He rolled his eyes when he should have been very apologetic - or at the very least, he should have thrown it away and grabbed a new tray! The food that was on that tray could have made us very sick and that is unacceptable - and I'm guessing a health violation?!. We decided to leave and skip the deli/Chinese food. We told management at the front of the store, and they offered us a refund, but when we advised that we didn't buy any of the food, the lady just said "oh ok, that's gross!" So we left. Yikes!!! My roommate and I go to the Safeway in shoreline and when we go through checkouts the bagger has no clue what he's or she is doing.They will put heavy items on top of candy bars that break or over load the bag .I bought 2 64 Oz juice and 2 16 Oz waters in one double bag I ask for double but didn't think the bagger would actually try and put all the heavy stuff in one bag.Its like they don't know how to bag and need to be trained as onetime .As onetime they put eggs on the bottom of my bag and stacked heavy meat on top I don't know what they were thinking. Parking was plentiful and I was easily able to get from the Joann's Fabric side of the plaza to the Safeway without having to get back on Aurora. In a pinch, this store will do. They have inexpensive prices on staples for your pantry. If you want a fancier noms, head up the road to Central. Word of quick advice, don't go there hungry though... their deli/prepared foods area can be dangerous! This location has good hours though the parking lot can feel a little seedy as the hour gets later. One night I was there, there was a woman who tried to open my car door and then waved at me that she thought it was her car. Seriously? You pulled up as a passenger in a white Honda and I drive a black car. Anyway, I hadn't exited my car yet so I just called the manager inside the store and let him know what had happened. Within minutes, I saw him come outside with a couple of employees. They looked around and after they were satisfied, headed back in. Im so glad this location is back to being a Safeway and not a Haggen. What was the deal with change anyway? I remember when the old Top Food on 175th switched to Haggen then closed again. Came here today to get a few things for Super Bowl. Saw a guy as I was walking in near garbage can outside. As soon as I enter, I see a guy walking out with a bag and I see another man walking closely behind and guy outside by garbage can + guy behind guy with bag just attack him. I'm literally shaken. Turns out guy with bag was stealing but damn didn't know Loss Prevention became physical like that. The guy was pushed so hard that if a car was coming he would have been hit. Another DISGUSTING bathroom, which is the rule rather than the exception for this chain. Standing water on floors, overflowing trash cans, stinky and filthy, filthy, filthy. Not a new development. I used to dread grocery shopping with my three kids when they were little (15 years ago), since a visit to my local Safeway stores invariably included a visit to the restroom. Always dirty and poorly maintained, regardless of location. They have never paid attention to this part of their business, and even more so (less so?) now that they have changed hands and they continue to try to squeeze labor costs. What happened to pride? What manager at ANY level, would say this is okay? I'll vote with my dollars and shop at Fred Meyer, Costco, Trader Joe's or any independent grocer that actually has enough respect for their customers to care about the condition of their facilities. It goes without saying that not all Safeway stores are NOT created equal. Products - The range of choices is acceptable. Layout - The store is the more modern version of the Safeway store. However, there is VERY little room in the front of the store. If there are two people standing at the end of a check stand to talk (happens very often), there is no room for anyone, let along a cart to pass. It may have something to do with their bargain DVD bin that is in the way. I'm not really sure that is not a fire code violation, but I digress. Meat Market - The butchers and meat packers have always been friendly and eager to help. Bakery - Like the butchers and meat packers, the bakers offer exceptional customer service. Cashiers - The cashiers are NOT friendly, nor are they efficient in any way, shape, or manner. Truly a disappointment as I have been to Safeway stores in Hawaii, Colorado, Oregon, and more. These cashiers do not make the grade. Customer Service Counter - The pool of people who work the counter is small. I've always had decent luck and service there but they are terribly slow. This is a regular pit stop for me in the morning. Yogurt, banana, coffee, and a protein shake. With just a few items you'd think you'd be in and out in a jiffy, not to say it never happens, but it's rare. The lines are long and I'm usually patient, but when you're the lone checker and you have 15-20 people waiting, there is something to be said about awareness. Make the call! "Employees pretending to work, screwing off on aisle 5 and in the back room, can you check please?" You needed help 10 minutes ago, but carry on your conversation, you're on the clock, we're just trying to get to work, and Safeway customer service is important. I don't know if anyone will read this, but just wanted to post a review. This store closed and reopened. I always loved their bakery. Their bread was so good. Now it's very different. I could ask at the counter if they had any fresh loaves and they'd slice it and bag it for me. No more! They don't even know what I'm asking when I've asked for this service. They look at me with blank stares. Yesterday I was looking for a cake for a small party we were having for our sons college graduation. I didn't need a big cake, but they didn't have a large supply in the case. I chose a round one and asked if they would write "Congrats" and my son's name on it. I walked away and came back and she had done a really crappy job with the writing. The S in congratulations (which she spelled out) is actually hanging on the side of the cake. She thought that was totally fine! She kept going over the K in my son's name and I asked her to stop more than once and she just kept adding more frosting to the K. It looks like a 3 year old wrote on this cake. So disappointing. After that, I found the refrigerated section of cakes to the left of the counter, which she could have pointed out to me when I said they didn't have many cakes. I should have just left the cake she ruined, but I bought it - very reluctantly. That was a lot of money to pay for a crappy cake, which in the end did not even taste that good. This is an unhappy stressful place. Not only are the employees unpleasant (older guy at produce makes you feel like shit for asking him the location of something) but they obviously don't care about customer service. I've actually had staff say "I don't know" when you ask for something and then just walk away. Today, was the last straw. They apparently won't give refunds in line for food you just purchased while in line! Right after the cashier rang me up I noticed one of the items wasn't a sale item so I said "oh sorry I don't want it then". So, I was penalized for not wanting it and told I had to take it to customer service to get a refund. Really??? I had to wait in line for 20 minutes (because short staffed again) to get a refund. I told the manager but she didn't care and didn't apologize. Listen folks that would not happen at Trader Joes or Central Market so why keep giving Safeway your business? I'm not anymore. read more

This is a solid store. Like most Safeways, they could stand to improve their produce section, but we're on Aurora, so... And for a store so close to Aurora, the staff is always pleasantly cheery. The seafood counter and meat section at this Safeway are a little small, and parking can be a little sketchy. The coffee counter is also awkwardly placed as when you are waiting you are right in the aisle that lead to one of th emain doors. Last night we stopped in around 8pm to get a few groceries. We went to check out and there were only two checkers, with around 10 people in EACH line. We waited for about 25 MINUTES. Don't get me wrong, I know the checkers that are working can only do so much, but they were moving at a SNAILS pace. They also didn't bag the items until AFTER they rang them up, so I bagged ours immediately to help speed up the process. As soon as we got to the front they brought in another cashier (where was she for the last 25 mins?) They also had someone sitting on the computer at their customer service desk. It was unreal. Management issues at its best. I'm not sure what happened there but I think we'll make the extra commute to go to somewhere else in the future. read more

We searched through the produce section; knowing that other Safeway stores carry them in the same section. We ended up finding them without assistance from staff, 20 minutes later. This store is complete garbage. It was bad when it was the old Haagans; turning it into a Safeway didn't make it better. There are always long lines and they don't even gave automated checkout! Instead just some oddly placed, completely useless cafe chairs. Guess they don't care about their customers who simply just want to get in and make a purchase. Don't waste your time here. There are tons of grocery stores in the area, including several other Safeways on the area. We don't need another half-bit grocery store in the Northern part of Seattle.
