I had switched from the sketchy Aurora site to the North City location awhile back, because I got tired of the loitering folks, restricted access to items due to retail theft, and being accosted in the parking lot. This site at 175th & 15th has both a well kept grocery store and fuel station. I also feel much safer in the store, parking lot or gas station. I often find all items on my grocery list which also helps towards accuring fuel discount points. Often the prices are as good as Costco without the crazy lines! Selection is decent. Prices are competitive. Interactions with checkout, customer service, and meat department staff have been helpful and personable. This was especially notable during two visits during the holiday season obtaining a free 12 pound turkey, nicely cut 9 pound beef rib roast (timely butcher assistance), and a 10 pound spiral cut ham. I used to cut coupons, then used my ancient Safeway card for savings. However, today (12/23/24) I actually downloaded the app and received significant digital savings on the rib roast and spiral cut ham. As a Shoreline resident, we're lucky to have choices where we shop: Safeway, Fred Meyer, Costco, Trader Joe's, Town & Country, and various international indie markets. This particular Safeway does the job and very glad that earlier mega merger with Kroger did not go through. read more

Growing up we drove past this Safeway on 15th Ave NE in Shoreline on the way to Meadowbrook for swim team practice, though we did not stop very often. So today, Saturday 8 April 2023, I came to check out the bakery options as Safeway tends to have a good variety of baked good items. I was in luck and got the last jalapeño and cheddar cheese bagel from the bakery bulk foods as well as a slice of a lemon mousse cake. Both items were delicious and well priced. I was particularly impressed with the cake offerings. The self check out was busy, but easy to navigate and the machines straightforward to use and glitch free. The gas pump malfunction and purged fuel all over my vehicle and ground, the employee in side the market asked me to stand side and pointed to the side. I wait for him to help many customers. And then he was going to refund me 1/2 the cost. The manager came and asked me if I was an employee and I said no. And she told me very rudely I need to move out of this space is only for employees. I moved and explained the other employee asked me to stand there. She was rude the whole time. She said she can only give 1/2 gallon. I ask her her name and she refused. Been going there a long time, but on Sunday, October 6th, had the worst experience ever. If you use your own bag they accuse anyone of stealing before even getting all items needed. They will even follow you till you get all of your items plus after each item getting, would ask if I had got everything on my list while they have a phone ready to call police, and then tell you you can't use a self checkout lanes... The cashier that did check me out was nice, had no issues so it might just be some of their staff, but still, being followed while they have a phone set to call police and told cant use the checkout lane all for using my own bag? Not any more. They also did away with plastic bags, which I used very much. Now they're gone. Not to mention, this store does not have the normal Safeway sales. Even on Monday they are still out of things that I normally buy, so that means the whole shopping trip goes somewhere else. They never stock enough of what I need--always the bakery items on sale. Those fruit pies three for $2.00--I live on those. When they're out, I leave. They have room for maybe three customers. So, I just won't come here any more and will go to the Fred Meyer on 185th that doesn't run out of stuff. Safeway needs to have stockers working Sunday night after the weekend rush, and not on Tuesday. Some of us have Mondays off and relish the lack of traffic and congestion--so there should be stuff on the shelves on Monday. I have never written a review positive or negative but I believe this is warranted at this time. I had the absolute worst experience at this location. Apparently the night manager Amanda works the self check out and the station I was attempting to check out at was malfunctioning. Therefore, Amanda grabbed my items (2) and took them to her station. On the way she grabbed a young lady's items and took them to her station as well. She ended up checking the young lady out first, which was no big deal. However when she checked my items out she only scanned one item, I paid, she gave me the receipt and said have a nice night. As I reach for my items I asked if she scanned the soda she grabbed she said you did not pay for it. I said ok well I want it can I pay now? I don't understand why you would grab my items, bring them up there and not scan them? She said you don't have to have an attitude. Whereas my response was just let me pay for my stuff attitude or not. She said no I'm not going to sell you anything (apparently Safeway hires the attitude police as well as checkout personnel) So I went back to the cold cooler and grabbed another soda and waited to self check out. It was a clear display of power tripping rather than just saying she forgot to scan it. All I wanted was a soda, not to be playing whos nuts are bigger with the night manager. The store itself is not bad, everything is fairly well organized. Staff is usually nice outside of the deli. Terrible service, staff gets all rude when you say you want a breakfast sandwich super short and snarky. Only one time out of the many have i had a good experience. I'm here almost everyday as I live nearby and today was the 1st time I felt so crummy. Came in late about 10:30PM and purchased some late night snacks and a box of diapers. I paid, grabbed my receipt and as I was putting my hood back on before grabbing my items and heading back out into the snow the cashier came up and accused me of trying to steal my diapers. When I got upset she LIED and tried to say she "asked" if I'd scanned them. No miss ma'am you said "you know you have to scan that". Maybe if you'd been paying attention you'd have seen that I DID scan AND pay. I'm not a thief. I felt so embarrassed. As a black woman I have to wonder if it was racially motivated. Everyone was staring at me. And when I went and complained to the manager he acted like it wasn't even his problem just said "sorry". BAKERY REVIEW: I came here after going to the Safeway on 99 & 155th and was given a lot of hesitation to placing an order of cupcakes! I wanted to order cupcakes - some with a baseball design and some that looked like grass. I chose the first location since it was the closest to where our team would be playing their last game, but the lady who helped me was basically trying to talk me out of any and all of my design requests. I ended up at this North City location since its closest to my home. From the start, Collette was super helpful and open to my many design requests. I also didn't mention my experience with the other location until I had completely finished placing my order. I'm so glad I didn't give up on all Safeways and tried this location. I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews. I've never had any trouble there. I have found the staff to be helpful and knowledgable. It also has a cash machine that will TAKE DEPOSITS! rather than only offer cash withdrawals. Decent selection of produce, access to expensive and inexpensive brands, a pharmacy I have relied upon for years. And the cashier named Jessica Yu is the one there I believe she is racist due to the fact that she keeps asking me for my id and doesn't ask anyone else for theirs! So I was the third person in line and the person she was helping was buying alcohol and two packs of cigarettes and wasn't carded it was then my turn and I asked for my type of cigarettes and she asked for my id... I asked why she didn't card that other customer? Normally i really like this store but recently thier cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting! I dont think they are cleaned at all! When i went in today there was poop on both toilets, none of the toilet paper was in the holders (most had some questionable stains on them), and both sinks had a film of brown on the bottom. This Safeway has really gone downhill. I've pretty much done my grocery shopping here my entire life. What I've noticed lately is how people speed through the parking lot, the rude checkers, and even quality of meat and produce has gone down. On Sundays, they usually only have 2 express lanes open and will give you attitude if you're barely over 15 items. However, what do you expect me to do if there is only express lanes open and no other cashier's available? Here's the good: prices are decent (for groceries and/or gas), usually parking is easy (on their less busy days), Mary Pat (checker - she's the bomb). I go to to this Safeway fairly often on my way home. Really it's just meh. I like getting gas at the gas station right there and running in to get a few items but I would not say I'm a fan of this store. People drive like maniacs in the parking lot so be careful. My main complaint is the Just For U Program. At least 1/3 times I have an offer loaded on my card it doesn't ring up correctly. Because the JFU discounts ring up at the end of the monitor when you're looking at the checker ring things up it's really hard to tell whether the appropriate discount was applied. Many times I have to go back to the customer service counter to get refunded the price difference because I can see on my receipt that the price was wrong but cannot see the error as the items are being rung up. Just this week the steaks I bought didn't ring up correctly. Good thing I checked my receipt. I went back and was refunded $7. That's significant! That wasn't even a JFU discount. It was a club card discount so this is a whole separate issue. read more

This is one nasty store. The prices at this store are higher than QFC The milk is always overpriced unless you buy 2 gallons. The place is infested with drunks and weird, smelly people buying booze and dog food at night so they can get drunk and hang out with the dog at home. I always see these goofy people writing checks and taking up time because using a debit card is too high tech for them. I knew a long time ago not to go into this store unless it is 5 a.m. when the store opens and only if I really need something. The lights are too bright and it has the feel of an urban community drug clinic and foodbank combined. The people I've seen in this store have made my skin crawl. I feel sorry for the front checkers who have to work here. Too many lowlifes coming in this store clogging up the check out lines warrant a self checkout lane but one of the overnight workers told me this store has too much theft so that rules the self checkout line out. I've had workers in the meat dept come up to me and almost yell at me asking if I needed help finding something as if I was in there to steal. I worked security and know that this is a tactic to use on someone if you think they are stealing or are these just more weirdos who need to confront someone in order to get their attention? Admittedly I don't like going to grocery stores in Puget Sound but this store and the Safeway chain are the worst. This Safeway is a perfect example of why it should not be legal to sell alcohol in stores. It attracts all the lowlifes and uses up shelf space at the expense of value priced food items. About the deli...The food is fine and the staff are nice but this is the slowest deli ever. I wish I had more positive things to say about the rest of the store. They still struggle with customer service and staffing the checkstands. The Slowest Check Out Service Ever! I have lived in Shoreline for six months now and evertime I go there, morning, noon, evening, it does not matter, the check out lines are unreal! The employees are ok, but man is it SLOW, I've never reviewed a grocery store, but I just had to for this one. I go here about 3-4 times a week because it has monopolized our neighborhood out of small businesses since it first showed up. I go here for gas and for what few available organic produce they have, which is not a very big selection at all. I dont like how half the employees but thats the kind of people safeway hires because those are the only people willing to work for nearly minimum wage with no benefits, yes I worked there once, its a joke. COMPLAINT My main issue with this Safeway is the nasty deli. The people in the deli take an hour to talk to because they dont understand english hardly at all or they act like they dont speak english they days you request them to do something that they dont want to do. For example, the 2-3 people always there understamd what it means to make a sandwich but dont know what the names of the ingredients like onions or tomato or anything like white bread vs nutty bread. I asked today for fresh oinions because they were completely dry and dehydrated like plastic. They were rude as can be. I have refused to go to this deli for over a year because of the crappy food and horrible service. Today Subway didnt open for some reason so I came into Safeway and nothing has changed since over a years ago. I swear its the same gross dried out veggies and meats all sitting out with out covers or anything. I even asked them if they put covers on the food and they started playing that game again where they dont speak english so I put down my groceries and walked out and went to Fred Meyer. I love that there's a Safeway close to my house with the gas station AND a Starbucks! This Safeway is average as far as Safeways go, but the staff is usually pretty upbeat, and I love how in Produce you hear thunder and lightning sounds before the produce gets sprayed. Bad ass! read more

Typical grocery store, for the most part. Nothing of note as far as food availability/selection/freshness. It's pretty much exactly like the Safeway I used to go to in Renton when I lived there and the Safeway in Pinehurst when I went to UW a few years ago. It's missing a couple amenities that other Safeways have had (no Jamba Juice stand or sushi bar... I think there's a Starbucks?), which isn't a big deal since I never would frequent those counters anyway. But if you like having several little bonuses at your grocery store, you will need to look elsewhere. So how does one judge and review a Safeway? I choose to focus primarily on the ease of use. That is to say, how long do I have to wait in order to get my groceries? If I only need to pick up a couple things how long does it take? Unfortunately, the answer to both those questions is "way too long". They do not have a self checkout and they usually only have one or two checkers up front despite having lines spilling into the aisles. So if you're trying to quickly get in and out with 1 or 2 items, you're going to have to wait in line with Chatty Cathy and Flatulent Freddy who are stocking up for nuclear winter with a $500+ grocery bill. There's always a couple. They do have 2 express lanes (15 items or less). Sadly, even if there is a checker manning one of them, the line is always so long that it doesn't really save you any time. I do like a couple things about this store: 1. They have a gas station where you can get discounted gas for your loyal Safeway patronage. 2. Marypat. She's an older checker and she kicks ass. She is well aware of the problems with the waiting time here and she moves faster than I've ever seen any other checker move in order to mitigate this as much as possible. And she always calls her customers "dear" or "honey". So friendly. I love her. I think if they don't fix the wait times, I'm going to start taking my grocery patronage elsewhere. read more

It's hard to find a place that'll make you a 1/8 red velvet sheet cake, but the baker at this Safeway didn't bat an eye when I asked for it. It turned out to be, by far, the best sheet cake I've ever had. The icing and cake were super fresh (they actually baked it the day I picked it up), and the cake has a rich, buttery flavor to it that I love. If you like sheet cake (which I do), I highly recommend ordering one here. read more

Most definitely a smaller & older store. Aisles very crowded & yes, almost always short -staffed. However, the folks who work at this location seem to get to know you if you go in regularly, are friendly & try to provide good customer service in a limited environment. I have shopped the Shoreline, Washington Safeway store for years and until recently the service has been okay, not great, but okay. Over the last two months the service in the deli has been beyond bad. Not only do the deli workers not speak english they don't even know the difference between the different weights. Ex: I asked for 3/4 of a pound and repeated it three times. She gave me a half a pound, I asked again and she gave me a whole pound. I would have walked away but I had already waited nearly ten minutes because she couldn't find the right meat and had to walk to the front of the counter for me to point out what I wanted after going through all the meat behind the counter and then she couldn't find the code to enter into the scale for the price. Ten minutes for one easy section of 3/4 of a pound of turkey. I normally don't complain but this has happened twice a week to me for over a month now, eight times. Not to mention on average you wait fifteen minutes just to get helped because of the lack of workers to customers. These workers need more training because their incompetence is off the charts. I understand customer service and the stress that goes with it, but I can tell you these workers are ruining your business and making people walk away (three people walked away from the deli just tonight while she was helping me). You need to make sure your workers are trained, competent and able to communicate with your customers in an efficient and timely manner. My visit to your store was at the peak of dinner hour at 6pm on October 31, 2015 I am only giving your store one more chance before you lose my family as customers and on average we spend $1400 on groceries and $350 on gas every month. I know loosing one customer is probably not a big deal to you but if I feel this way you can count on that there are hundreds more that feel the same that won't say anything, they will just quit shopping with you. read more
