They need to shut this store down. The foods always molded & meats expired. I purchased some fish that had an expiration date of 6 days later. The next day the fish smelled awful in my fridge. I went to return the fish and was told I had to exchange it. I tried to find fish similar in weight, quality, and price and couldn't. I found some fish that was a bit cheaper. Instead of offering my money back or store credit the lady returned the cheaper fish I hadn't purchased and then rung the cheaper fish up as if I purchased the cheaper fish to begin with to balance it out as an even exchange. It wasn't or shouldn't have been treated as an even exchange because I paid $35 for one package of fish and $28 for another package which was $63 dollars. The packages I found were $17 and $22 which totaled $39. That was the only fish that was left in which I purchased the last remaining two packages. I had my receipt and was so upset and how she tried to cheat me out of my money. She was a heavy set white lady with glasses and blonde hair older in age. I think her name was Michelle but don't quote me. She kept licking her finger touching stuff after i witnessed her smoking cigarettes outside of the store as I arrived. She came straight in to help me. Didn't wash her hands or anything. As I shopped I witnessed I group of Indian teenagers shoplifting. No one batted an eye. Went down another isle witnessed another Asian guy filling a backpack up with food. I was appalled. I couldn't believe my eyes. As I exited the store there was an older white man pushing a shopping cart full of items out the store he hadn't paid for. I was really surprised at how no one caught any of these shoplifters. Maybe because they weren't black. This is where it gets interesting and yes this was in one visit. A young black woman paid for her items and was met outside the store by SRPD for suspected shoplifting. I stood by and watched because I witnessed three different shoplifting incidents and they weren't met by police at all. The police searched the black lady checked her receipts and she had in fact paid for all of her items so they allowed her to leave. I couldn't believe my eyes! This store is not only has poor customer service, and terrible food, but racially biased. I will not ever return to this store. If my phone wasn't dead I would've recorded it all. The manager who called on the black lady name is Alex. I mean he was beyond happy to call on someone who was his race and innocent. Black people will never learn. read more

I only go here due to its convenient location, but I'm no longer coming here for produce. The quality is terrible. In the past several months, I've returned a number of items. I just cut into a mango today that was mostly brown. I also just returned a package of jackfruit that was moldy upon opening. Do not come here if you want fresh items. read more

The cashiers at this location seem to be consistently rude, usually I try to use the self checkout to avoid them but it was closed. Tonight I had an very rude experience with Daysi. The cashier was very nice to the person in front of me and was chatting with the people behind me. When it was my turn I greeted her and she ignored me, no big deal. Then I wasn't able to key in my phone number and I asked her if she could key it in on her screen. She just looked at me, so I asked again and she impatiently tapped her screen and made a face. While I was telling her the number she rolled her eyes. Then she bagged my items without asking if I needed a bag (she had asked the person before me). Not a big deal but it's everything combined. Then she rudely shoved my receipt towards me without looking at me, and did not say anything. And I hate to pull this card but it felt racially motivated because the people behind and in front of me seemed to be white. It may have not been the case but she seemed to be only rude to me. Very unpleasant experience. I think will start going to an alternate grocery store. read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - San Ramon, California

After reading raving reviews of this bakery at Safeway here on Yelp, I decided to give it a try. So disappointing.... I went there last Monday, stood around for a few minutes, ignored by the working staff... finally, an Asian woman comes to me and says that the bakery manager is not here, and to come back tomorrow to make an order. Fine, I come back the next day, and I'm told "she didn't come in", frustrated, they finally say "yes, we can take your order.." I ask a few questions and describe the cake that I want and I'm told "we don't have white cake, all out, only chocolate cake", I'm thinking to myself, this IS a bakery right? Apparently, they "order the cake from a warehouse premade?" So I complete my order, and I'm told the baker will call me. Well, a week has passed, and the baker has not called me back. I want this custom cake for a birthday party on Feb. 4, I call them back today, there is no baker manager there, and at least the "Customer Service" person was responsive and went back to the bakery and confirmed that my order was still on file. I cancelled this cake, having to look for a more reliable and responsive source. I don't know what's going on with this Bakery, but it's not one that I can entrust with my grand daughter's first birthday party cake! read more

I dread coming to this Safeway. Seems like no one wants to help you at this location on Bollinger. A while ago I asked the cashier to have someone grab alcohol for me and he says out loud here we go again another line and tells the lady who works there who is heavy set tattoos and piercings on her face. She says if we go the line will get long again just to get your item. Wow just wow, excuse me I don't have a key to your liquor cabinet and when I tried to ask someone who worked there they act like I'm not there asking for help. I thought it was so unprofessional to say those kinds of comments as if I couldn't hear them. Mind you there was one line and at least ten people waiting. I don't mind waiting but I don't appreciate the rude comments just because I asked for help. It took me a while to write this review because I was so upset about my experience. Safeway you have sketchy people working at this location and who are extremely rude to customers and do not want to help. How is this not an issue? read more

Hello Safeway, I'm writing about your store at 11050 Bollinger Canyon Rd and the constant lines, today we waited 15min to purchase two items. There was one cashier and self check out for the store. There was about 30 people waiting in both lines. This store is under staffed regardless of the time or day there are long line. Today, I was harassed by another shopper. Before today, I had spoken with manager about this issue and was told that he cannot predict when people shop at his store. My suggestions is pay more attention to your store and figure it out. This bad experience has forced me to shop at Wal-Mart and Sprouts. I will no longer shop at your store. I am dissatisfied with the management of your store. Unfortunately your employees are also being harassed, this issue demands immediate attention on your behalf. read more

Safeway is trying to change their image of being "pricey" so the have deep discounts. The problem is in the system. The discounts don't always show up. I have to inspect my receipt EVERY time I shop here. This last trip 4 items were not discounted. This includes the online coupons where you "send to card" - THEY don't show up at all. Not worth your time going online and clicking everything. I keep giving them the benefit of a doubt but I just shake my head and go to Costco. Even Nob Hill down the street has higher prices but sale items. They just started a loyalty program, I'm going there instead. At least the get it right at the register. Less stressful. read more

I wanted to write this review when I stepped out the Safeway front door the other day. But then I gave myself a couple days to calm down, so that my review would be fair. I came here to return something and the lady told me the total of the refund price was over $10, so they could only give me the refund on a gift card, even I had the receipt and I just bought it a day ago. I didn't like that, but fine whatever! I was going to buy something right away anyway and I was in a hurry, so I didn't bother to argue with them. I got the gift card and went in and bought some other things. I purposely wanted to use up the whole amount in the gift card, so I grabbed a few more things. Then when I checked out, I paid with the gift card and I saw the cashier just threw away the card after he slided it. I knew this would happen but it really bothers me when I see people waste plastic like that. The card was brand new and it was even attached to the paper envelope thing! The worst was, I was too focusing on how bad they waste of plastics and create more garbage, I didn't pay attention to the price I paid. After checked out, I realized the price on the receipt was not correct. I thought one item was on sale, but it was not. So I had to go back to the same lady I talked before and asked her. We went back to the isle and found out that they put the wrong size item behind the sales tag. She then just said "oh, this size is not on sale and it shouldn't be put here." What! I looked at the price, it's $10.99! It's over $10, that means I would have to return it and get another gift card again? OMG! I started to complain to her about why Safeway doesn't refund the money back to the customer in the same form of payment. If paid cash, then refund the cash, if paid by credit card, then refund it to the card. That's so simple and every company does that. The lady said "well, this is the company policy...." Well, let me tell you, your company policy is stupid and extremely unfair to customers! After a good five minutes back and forth, the lady said "okay, I will refund you cash just for this time." Hey, Safeway people, I was not begging for a courtesy. I was telling you how to provide good customer service and you should change your stupid company policy; not to mention how you guys put the sales tag in front of the wrong item. As a conclusion, Safeway is NOT a green company and not environmental friendly, they have stupid refund policy that technically leads to more garbage. By refunding money in the gift card, they basically don't want to give the money back to the customers and forcing people to shop there again. They may not even a clean company neither (based on the other review saying there is mouse around the store.) I definitely will have to think twice before I shop here again! P.S. If you shop here, bring your own tote because their plastic bags suck! They cannot be reused because they ALL have holes in it. Oh well, more Safeway garbage again! read more

The WORST Safeway I've been to! We decided to come here today for sandwiches as we were in between baseball games at the high school up the street. Worst decision ever! The deli lady/sandwich maker took over 30 mins to make 2 sandwiches. Seemed confused and unorganized. In the middle of it all my friend went over to a "manager" to let her know that the person needed help, a huge line was forming. Manager seemed indifferent and really could careless, never sending any help over. Went to the self check out to pay, same "manager" was standing there. I reiterated our concern, "manager" just replied with.... I'm sorry she's new. The "manager" could careless! Zero customer service here, very sad, because my local Safeway in Pleasant Hill always goes above and beyond with their customer service! Next time we are in the area for our kids sports events, we definitely will not stop here when Subway is in the same strip mall!!! read more

This Safeway is perpetually understaffed. There have been many times where lines are going into the aisles in the afternoon with only 2-5 registers open. If you would like to get a Safeway custom sandwich or breakfast burrito, do not bother if there is more than 1 person in front of you since like I mentioned earlier: the store is perpetually understaffed. I have waited for a simple breakfast burrito for 10 minutes on numerous occasions with less than 3 people in front of me. Check the dates before you buy. I have seen Safeway put items on sale that were well past their expiration date. read more

This location is very similar to the one in Dublin with a Jamba Juice, Starbuck's, sushi, nut bar, deli, hot food station, etc. It is huge, and one could easily get lost in here. This location also has an aisle with a nook that carries fancy kitchen stuff (Le Cruset, etc.). I was not impressed with the produce, but then again, this is not the best produce season. Everything else was real Safeway. But the Safeway's in this area are much nicer than the ones I am used to (El Cerrito, Albany). The staff was friendly-every time one passed me as I was shopping they asked if I needed any assistance. There is a gas station attached as well-which is the only one for miles and miles on the long road called Bollinger. I will be coming here from time to time when I venture home from school. read more

This review is for the cashier. The cashier just seemed like she did not care or want to help. Maybe she had a bad day or something but still no reason to act like the customer is eating into your own personal time or dragging you down. When I was waiting in line she complained that the person in front of me was paying with some change. When it was my turn the card machine was reading error for my card, but it wasnt on my behalf and she let out a sigh, as if i was doing something wrong or bugging her. After some more attempts, my card just went through as normal. Needless to say she could of handle both situation differently but this store needs to step up their customer service skills. read more

I gave it two stars because it is usually clean. Other than that, forget it. You need something quick, no problem, but if you need help, are looking for something, need someone at the juice bar, deli or have a question ...FORGET IT! It you go into the gas station store because you need to purchase more than the $100 limit at the pump. FORGET IT! I have never met a lazier or ruder staff of employees than at that gas station. They lie and do anything not to have to be bothered. I need one receipt, I fill up with more than $100.00 per tank, but the pump cuts off at $100.00, so I have to go in to get it all on one receipt. THEN if you want to use your club card discount, they lie again and tell you that you can only do that at the pump! UGH!!!! Now that I think about it ...... one star read more

Let's start with the good news. It's the only grocery store in the canyon and is basically 5 minutes from everyone who lives in Windemere. I find the staff to be very friendly! Although it's such a large store, the employees always seem to remember the faces and/or names of frequent shoppers. That's a nice touch. Now the bad. Just two weeks ago I was about to walk into the store when I saw a mouse waltz in right in front of me! He all but picked up a basket and started shopping. I was totally disgusted and have found it difficult to buy 'fresh' food at this location ever since. Yes, the employees are friendly. However, they're a bit too friendly at times. I've often been at the self checkout and overheard inappropriate conversations between employees. I don't want to hear all of that while I'm buying my groceries and neither do other shoppers, from what I witnessed. Speaking of self checkout, it's almost always down. The 'sushi' at the sushi bar is disgusting imo. The deli service is typically slow. I'd be here all day talking about the hot bar, but let's just say that mashed potatoes are your best bet. Try Yang's down the street if you want Chinese food that actually tastes good. Save yourself and your stomach the heartache of eating from the hot bar. Overall, decent grocery store, but I think they could do more...a lot more! read more

Brad the store manager and Karen the bakery manager was very responsive and super helpful. They helped resolved a problem caused by a different Safeway store. A week ago, I ordered a cake at a different Safeway located on San Ramon Valley Blvd and the cake was never made when I came to pick it up. We were left stranded and they offered no resolution. Thankfully the Bollinger Safeway was able to make cake the same day for me. Their team made it possible to have a cake for our special occasion. I wish more stores were like theirs. I picked up the cake with no problems. At the bakery, Suzy was very nice and took great care to make sure everything was right. Great customer service! I will definitely shop here (Bollinger Safeway) instead of the one on San Ramon Valley Blvd. Also, the store is very clean and organized too. read more

Employees here always look like they want to hang themselves -not happy at all. Lines are pretty consistently long no matter what time you come in due to many unopened check stands. Smells bad too, though every Safeway does. It's been gradual improving over the years. I give one star for being open 24 hours a day. This is the closest grocery store to my house but I try very hard not to go here. The late hours are sometimes the only reason I do. Definitely a company that cuts corners to save/make a buck. Not customer service oriented at all. Funny, considering they kind of go hand in hand. I'm hoping Safeways eventually start closing from all of the more natural/local groceries coming in to the area. I can't stand the energy here at all. read more

Avoid this safeway if possible. Even though the store is newer than the Blackhawk safeway, the layout is very confusing and the employees are friendly, but not as sincere as those at Blackhawk. Also had several instances of trouble at the gas station - rude customers, fights breaking out, and loitering by all the Section 8 kids now populating Windemere. Safeway mgmt is clearly aware of problem, but their staff do nothing for the safety of customers. They need security at the gas station and more patrol. STAY AWAY read more

Went back for the third time today and needed some soup base. This is supposed to be third time's the charm, right? Well, not in this case. I checked the soup base again today and found some expired jars as far back as June 2010!! I took them up to the same guy that I took them to before and he said that he pulled them off the shelf. I must say, I'm surprised by all the high-star reviews. Here's why I feel this store is disappointing: - Every single time I come here, I see people coming in from Wedgewood try to cut over to the gas station without coming to a full stop at the &$%#@ stop sign. Even when the car ahead of them is stopped at the stop sign, they try to cut over to the left. I wonder how many accidents this has caused so far. Safeway needs to do something about this poor layout because people can not drive worth a ... - Teenagers hanging out in the parking lot. I realize this is common at grocery stores in the suburbs. I guess since this is the only shopping center in Windemere/Gale Ranch, it is somehow a cool place to hang out, but its really obnoxious and there is always a variety of liquids spilled all over the parking lot and front of the store. Stay home and go through Mom's medicine cabinet. - Expired food. Be sure to check the expiration dates on every single thing you buy here, because they regularly leave expired food on the shelves. I learned this the hard way. Keep your receipts. - Stocking. I have been at this store during different times of the day and they will be completely out of basic items - like zero water jugs on the shelf at 10am. Shouldn't this have been stocked overnight? Maybe someone that shops here is always really really thirsty. - Speaking of water, on several occasions I have grabbed jugs of water only to find that they were leaking all over the shelf and the jugs were partially empty since so much had leaked out. Handle with care, because the employees don't. - Get rid of the sushi bar and nut bar. No one ever uses these. I like the availability of fresh peanut butter, but they could make better use of the space. How about a bigger/better "ethnic" section? If I never had to set foot in a 99 Ranch again, I would thank the Safeway gods and give this store a better review. Hey, its not ALL bad: - The store looks nice from the outside. There are no armed guards or barred windows here - those are always a bad sign. - I like the little housewares-y section. I have found some cool stuff there. A little overpriced, but cool. - Nice alcohol selection, which you will need to get through your shopping experience. Luckily they have cup holders in the carts. Just pop open a stack of cups and start pouring. The other shoppers will thank you. -Location can't be beat if you live in the immediate area. read more

I have to give this location five stars because I feel the employees actually care about saving the customers money! I always check my receipts after purchase just to be sure my "just for u" coupons are applied. On several occasions they have been rung up wrong. Customer service is quick to not only refund the amount, but give $5 gift cards as well. Also, bought some dry cat food and the manager (who was ringing up my items) remembered that there was some clearance bags available, had a clerk bring them to the register. Unfortunately my Beebs is a finicky one and wouldn't like any of the sale offerings. I had to decline the offerings but she still knocked $5 off of my order! How cool is that? I am always able to get a sweet deal on meat and the best kept secret is the peppered bacon in the butchers case. I don't have to buy a $12 brick of thick bacon, instead I can get like 8 slices for about $3!! Yes please! read more

damn... i lost another 1st to review because i couldn't tear myself away from loitering at this beautiful new safeway to go home and yelp about it. i dragged my co-workers here for lunch on opening day. yes, i'm crazy about store openings, even for a simple safeway. yes, this place feels like a whole foods. the sushi wasn't that great; the one at blackhawk safeway was better, unless they are changing all the safeway sushi to be of this more rice-ful quality. there is also a safeway gas with 20 cent discounts on $50+ purchases for awhile (need to fuel those SUVs). it's not just another safeway. try growing up with a crappy grocery store, then you can appreciate this one. regarding the rest of "the plaza", soon to open stuff include jamba juice, ascona pizza, us bank, wells fargo, a dentist, a bar and grill, and others. the only shopping cart corrals are near the store entrance, so i envision lots of runaway carts and matching dents in the future. for less stress, enter on the dougherty road side and park farther away from the store entrance. update 9/13: just realized... this place is open 24 hours! read more

Employees are unhappy and rude as a result. Never enough check stands open. I live extremely close to this store, and avoid it at all costs. I go to the San Ramon Valley Safeway in San Ramon. The checkers are pleasant and they always seem to have enough check stands open relative to how busy it is at the store. Bollinger store seems to have no clue that rush hour times are probably when you may want to open all check stands, especially when you see people lining up down the aisles! Pretty bad when even self-check out has a line as long or longer than the ones for the TWO whole check stands they have open at 5:30 pm each day of the week. Time is precious to everyone, especially getting groceries after work and to have to wait 20+ minutes even for self checkout, let alone the regular check stands (even speedy checkout), is ridiculous. A couple weeks ago, I received THE worst service by a checker at the speedy checkout. She was extremely rude, and was handing me bag after bag over the little table you write checks on, rather than letting me grab my bags myself at the end of their bagging table, and dropping my bags as she was shoving them at me! She wouldn't make eye contact with me, and was just plain awful. I decided to take the little survey on the receipt. I rarely complain, but after occasionally shopping at this Safeway for over three years in hopes to see improvement and instead it seems worse, I thought perhaps taking the survey may help improve operations at this place. Today, I received a call from Safeway corporate about my service that day and all they did was spew back what I said in my survey. When asked what they could do to improve their service, I started talking about how busy the check stands were and was just going to simply say have more check stands open during the rush hour times, she cut me off before I could say that and thanked me for taking the survey. Really, what's the point of the follow-up or asking me about improving anything if you don't want to hear our input? So disappointed with Safeway as a whole now. I will be taking my grocery shopping elsewhere altogether now, regardless of how close they are to my home. read more

Wow, this Safeway is AMAZING AMAZING! When we drove up at night and saw it illuminated by spotlights and palm trees (sooo hollywood), I was lucky not to hit the courtesy clerk pushing the carts because I was driving and staring at the amazing store, not at all paying attention to the road. I was greeted by a manager with a clipboard and every associate there is all smiles. There is a Jamba Juice, Starbucks, nut bar, make-your-own-peanut-butter bar, squeeze-your-own-honey-into-a-bear-container bar (adorable adorable!), a sushi bar!, a hot prepared foods station, and a gas station (obviously, not in the store)! I couldn't get enough, I walked around forever just admiring everything --- touching things, picking things up, and throwing them in the cart. I pushed my niece around in a cart that had a children's red/yellow playskool-like car in front of it for her to sit in. Usually each Safeway has maybe one of these for the whole store but when I was putting the cart back there was several more all lined up ready to go! I hope Safeway starts to roll out more stores like this. read more

Some pretty unprofessional employees at this store. On more than one occasion I've been in a checkout line when the cashier focuses more on the conversation they are having with a fellow employee instead of the customers in line. Have been shopping here forever and have had great experiences with the bakery- Karen and Team. However last Saturday- I called the store to have some balloons blown up and was told no problem. I get to the store and went to the service desk and the floral area a few times trying to track down the woman I spoke with over the phone. I ran into Natashia Rodriguez who helped me find the person I spoke to. At that point, the employee said that she was off the clock even though I had spoken to her 20 minutes earlier. Nathashia knew I was in a rush, took me to the floral department and blew up my balloons in time for the event. Her commitment to customer satisfaction gets an A+ for me. Safeway is a Safeway, right? No. Positive: The parking is good at this safeway compared to the other ones. Negative: I had a few problems with this Safeway. Club Card, Safeway Debit Card, Staff and Manager. I think some of the people there are not trained well or something is wrong with them.. I had to call the corporate office several times to get a few matters handled. (No help at all there). The manager I think does not know his job. This is a brand new Safeway in a brand new shopping center down the street from me so thats a huge plus. It is also great because of all the new construction going on around it, the area needed this Safeway. I used to go to the one near Blackhawk when I lived in Danville and this place was getting the overflow of new residents. For some reason, I'm not a huge fan of grocery shopping. I love to eat and love to shop but I guess I'm not big into crowds so I avoid grocery stores. HOWEVER, I do enjoy this Safeway for many reasons and will go grocery shopping with my fiance (as long as I'm pushing the cart :) ) PROs: -brand new so everything is in good condition -produce is fresh and the food is well stocked -they have a Starbucks AND a Jamba Juice, two of my loves -huge wine selection and alcohol area with helpful employees -fresh meats (my cat appriciates the delicious turkey we bring home) -VERY helpful staff and are always giving free samples of stuff (which is a huge bonus for me) -the store is kept clean and the lines are not long (if going at the right time) -always is parking available and I enjoy the palm trees in the lot :) I tend to go at night or during dinner time to avoid such crowds and bad cart drivers (hello! you push the cart on the right side of the aisle just like you're driving people!). This Safeway is close by, near my bank, near a bunch of new shops and is large so even when its busy its not too bad. read more

So I missed the grand opening of this place, which I would have liked to win of their 200 ipod shuffles that they were giving out. Oh well. But I did manage to stop by a couple days ago. There's just something about having millions of palm trees in this SR plaza that makes me wonder what more can they do. I've heard in the Livemore Safeway there's a fondue and pizza, so I'm sure this location can top that. However, it was just another Safeway. Big, nice, clean, polished, free samples and coupons for it's grand opening...but I see that they are converting more to the style of whole foods with all it's big bakery kitchen and already cooked options. Starbucks area inside, and a sushi bar that you can actually sit down and have the chefs serve you a plate on the menu.
