This review is specially for the store manager. You know who you are. First off, I was disappointed by the aggressive and unnecessary management at self checkout a few days ago. I was using self checkout with my grocery items and well within reason and there was no one in line. Out of nowhere the manager approached me and loudly said "this is for less than 15 times". Aside from the fact that her tone was unprovoked and publicly embarrassing, the sign reads "about 15 items". Management should focus on helping customers, not power tripping. Oh by the way, don't buy the strawberries here. More often than not they are moldy. You have better luck buying strawberries at the farmers market on Saturdays. To the store manager, Angela, how about addressing that issue, the broken door in the salad aisle, and the not so fresh bread? Thanks! read more

This Safeway almost always has been good to visit and go to. They got a pretty big parking lot with lots of space and best of all is how it's opened 24 hours. You can go here anytime even the middle of the night and get stuff. They're always well stocked on items and of you have the app you can get extra deals to help get the best deals possible at Safeway. The fried chicken is also delicious, sandwiches are good, and the variety of items is unbeatable. As for the environment they cleaned and remodeld this Safeway few years ago so it has a nicer appeal to it now so it won't feel like a bad place to be. read more

This place has a dirty bathroom fried bean such a big brand grocery store, piss all over the bathroom floor. Very un sanitary how can any employee go to the bathroom in peace like this either? Whoever runs to the store needs to get reevaluated as a manager. And or fired I came here about a week ago as well, and the bathrooms were still the same dirty wise. 0 stars for the bakery. They put the color of our gender reveal on the outside of the cake. We confirmed before (and confirmed after the fact with the manager) that they can do a gender reveal cake and have it done by the time we wanted it. We were a bit uneasy because it seemed she spoke little English, but she also seemed to understand us. We figured they do this day in and day out, this is their profession. They are the experts. We filled out their form for a gender reveal cake and gave them our results. She opened the paper, smirked, and handed the results back to us. When we picked up the cake, we watched them from the counter box up our blue cake. The Safeway bakery counter is where we found out we're having a boy. Everything was selected white, with added pink and blue flowers along the top edge of the cake. We put a question mark in the lettering section on the form so they could write it on top of the cake. This whole set up screams gender reveal, right? If you're going to hire people that speak little to no English and could not care less about doing the correct job, please micromanage them, because they ruined a moment we'll never get back and will never have again. I don't care what their native language is, but if you're working face to face with customers and English forms, speak and understand English. Also hire people that care and communicate. At the end of the day, they don't care. They don't care that they wrote blue in the wrong section. They don't care to communicate with each other. They don't care that they ruined something that was supposed to be fun and special for me. No consequences, no retraining, nothing. They clearly didn't get that this is a gender reveal cake and we communicated to them that it was. I don't understand the extremely low 2 star rating! I LOOOOOOVE THIS SAFEWAY. It's closest to my home and I have to say that the staff is EXTREMELY friendly, ALWAYS greeting me. The food is always fresh in terms of ready to go meals and the deli/hot food bar. If they are ever out of something, they will replenish it immediately. If you are not satisfied with your purchase you can always take it back. I love the environment that the staff creates! They even slice bread rounds or baguettes that they make in house for you! Theyre also able to allow you to sample certain things such as deli meats/salads, etc. I also enjoy the cleanliness of this location. read more

Came in to stock up on our way to Pleasanton on 2/1/26 ~4:10pm. We were going to get some dinner items but after watching another "customer" run frantically in front of the pharmacy then turn around and run up some shelves back towards the stockroom...well, that changed our minds. The quality of all meats, particularly ground beef, have gone way down in quality. If you're going to buy ground beef here, avoid the bulk size portions and ignore "manager specials " or stickers indicating reduced prices. At Safeway you really get what you pay for when it comes to ground beef. I got a big value pack (80/20fat but it might as well have been 60/40), it was tasteless and so fatty, the texture was off as well. Spongy at first and then it got rubbery the more i chewed. It leaves a weird film in mouth. Its reminds me a lot of Taco Bell but worse if you can believe it. I ended up getting their patties and it was no different don't buy their in-house non label ground beef. Get bison or the other small (square) packaged beef that are higher quality and grass fed. Hit/miss when it cones to buying their 4 for 20 chicken mix n match chicken bundles sometimes the chicken thigh is rubbery and weird. Sometimes the meat is funky and near expiring date. All in all.. their meats have turned me off completely. I am done with Safeway. read more

Hated this grocery store before the remodel. I would rather starve than wait 30 minutes to check out at the grocery store like how it was before- luckily, that's fixed with over staffing registers. Stopped in recently out of survival as my mother in law was passionate to shop at Safeway and Safeway only. We were impressed with the remodel, and how fresh the produce was. The selection is impressive, and quality so far has been excellent. What I don't love is the layout. Call me old school, but I miss the days where grocery stores were just grocery stores. I don't want to grab my produce and then walk halfway across the store, passing aisles of housewares and knickknacks and towels with tacky sayings on them, just to get to the rest of the food to shop for my groceries. Canned goods are separated amongst 3 far apart aisles, which causes me to spend double the time in the store crossing back and forth just trying to figure out where the dang canned black beans are. This review is specifically about the time I rented a Rug Doctor from this Safeway. On Sunday, October 15 around 6 pm, I stopped by Safeway (2505 San Ramon Valley Blvd) and asked if they have a Rug Doctor available for rent. Two people helped me and when I asked that question, one of them asked the other if the Rug Doctors have been fixed, in which the other person answered 'yes' with a sense of skepticism. I thought little of it, rented it anyway, and went about my day. On 9:30 that same day, I started getting everything situated to get my area rug cleaned only to find out that the Rug Doctor is not working properly. The 'Brush Jam' light was on and the brush wasn't spinning at all. When I inspected it, there was a ton of hair (for previous renters) that caused it to malfunction. I clean it out and it still doesn't spin. From there, I decide to just pack it up and I'll return it when I get off from work the next day. Today (October 16) at 5:15 pm, I return the Rug Doctor to the store and ask for a refund. I was denied of that refund because I'm returning it almost 24 hours later. While that is true, it's 100% reasonable that I rent something on a Sunday night, work a full day (Monday) and come immediately after 5 pm when I get off work. I spoke with Angela, Front End Manager who was dismissive, unhelpful, and unwilling to reason with me. I asked for her managers contact information and she gives me the store number--continuing to be unhelpful. While I love shopping at this Safeway for groceries, I feel as if this incident is a good representation of the store and it's management if an incident like this doesn't get resolved. 1 star for now. read more

As I arrive a police officer is writing a police report. Inside elderly women are seen clutching their purses like a football at the Superbowl. Somehow this Safeway has bad juju. A feng Shui master might need to come in here or be consulted - I don't know what makes things feel so uncomfortable. The layout is a bit different than other similar stores. Some remodeling and flooring is being redone.... but I don't think any of that is why people are so on edge. I did carefully inspect a new area that I'm guessing is some walk in fridge near the registers - maybe for flowers. Looks like they are putting tiles on top of linoleum with a little leveler sandwiched between. I don't think it is a good practice and is probably why existing and fairly new floor is peeling and cracking throughout the store. I came at 5pm - donuts looked to be all sold out - which isn't necessarily bad. Grabbed some other baked goods and odd items on my shopping list. I found everything quick enough even though I'm not that familiar with things here. Lines at regular registers were short as was self check out which I used. As I leave a ten year old Honda pulls out of a spot right where the police report was written. Its really loud and sounds terrible like a garbage disposal. I'm taking a guess somebody took the cat right in broad daylight. I think lighting or security needs special attention maybe even some other element that can't be easily quantified or identified. Bought "fresh" strawberries and get home to feed kids lunch and the strawberries are half frozen. Went back immediately to return for credit and was given an attitude. I can buy frozen strawberries in the freezer section. This store keeps going down in quality and service. Have to fight for correct prices every time. I shop early mornings due to third parties shopping order( for example; Instacart, DoorDash or uber eats) and staff make it feel very unwelcoming. They lack customer service and I don't trust their food. I was walking near one of the prepared food coolers near the Deli and I saw at the bottom something brown and for some reason I was thinking a bird got inside... as I got closer I saw it inch out and I was a deer in headlights...I saw a very well fed RAT casually stroll to the other end of the cooler not running, not startled ( by me or workers or by the loud floor cleaning machine that I almost got my rear end hit because the worker was coming in hot down the aisle) but casually cruise on by and saw no worker pay no mind.. I love how this Safeway is clean and organized. I can find all what I need in no time. I just moved to the area in March and I am thrilled to have a supermarket just down the street from me. I think my only gripe is that the workers are not very engaged and friendly. I can walk through the isles and no one will greet me with a good morning or can I help you find something. Funny the rating is so low. I'm guessing folks that shop at the San Ramon Safeway have no reference. I live in Hayward and I regularly shop at the Safeway on Foothill and occasionally shop at the Safeway on Jackson. I also shop at the Safeway in Castro Valley on Redwood. The Safeway in San Ramon is a gazillion times better! The aisles are huge! The fruit and veggie section felt like it was as big as the entire store in Hayward. They also had a full freezer case of Open Nature frozen skillet meals, which I've not seen anywhere else. I haven't tried them yet, but I loved having them as an option for dinner; I bought two. Checking out was a breeze. There were no issues. This Safeway is a bit too far away to become my regular store, but if I have a need to go to San Ramon for say Total Wine & More or Zachary's Pizza, I will definitely do my shopping at the San Ramon Safeway! read more

We asked for assistance in with our little vases for a party we had last night, and they were beautiful on the tables. Today, 05-18-2024, around 5:20 PM I was asked for a receipt for exchanging a store brand spoiled milk ! That means I was lying and came to the store driving for a gallon of milk. That is the lowest a store manager can go. Safeway store brand milk went bad many times way before it's date but we ignored it except this time. Been coming to this particular Safeway for over 20 years now and can say it's heading in the downward direction. Long lines before and during covid. Empty shelves are the usual. Fish/meat counter no one around and waiting for 10 mins before someone finally came over. Unacceptable. My most recent experience with Bay area markets was a Safeway in San Mateo, and I hated every picken thing about it: long lines, poor service, out of stock on many things. We all know prices are high here in the area, but my view of Safeway dwindled. Well, until now. 4 reasons why this is a GREAT Safeway: ================================ * Room to breathe with a great layout and room between the aisles. * Great, goes out of their way, customer service when you need help finding something. Several times, I've been chaperoned and shown versus told the aisle. * Checkers are quick and friendly. Lines are kept short. * Huge, well-stocked.
