Failed again. Was in the area and wanted to get some chicken on sale, so we went there. For starters, they were out of chicken thighs and didn't know when restocking would happen. Next, the checkout line had about seven people and only one cashier. The cashier didn't call for backup until the line was almost 10 long. Finally, the cashier took a lot of time with the customer in front of us because they were squabbling about something. The customer in front of us called her out on not writing the sale price on the rain check that was issued. The cashier made that exact same mistake when issuing my rain check and I pointed it out, too. SMH. This is not the first time we've had a dysfunctional cashier at this location. My review is very specific for my situation. I was looking for low sugar pops all over and couldn't find. I went to more "healthy" supermarkets such as Trader's Joe's, Whole foods and couldn't find any low sugar pops. I was surprised that I actually find ones at Safeway. This location is conveniently located near me, so I come here but I have mixed feelings about the service at this location. I feel like it's hit and miss. Safeway is normally pretty busy, so I try to avoid coming here during "peak" hours. Lines are long and sometimes cashiers are apathetic and does not have urgency. Some of the cashiers are really professional nice and others are ehh. So it's hit and miss. Personally, I find some products to be overpriced and not worth it. I only come here when there's sales. I think everyone in the meat department is really nice and helpful. I have waited at the customer service desk for almost 5-10 minutes before when a cashier told me they could not help me and pushed me off to customer service when I requested assistance for something (although in my previous experience, the other cashiers were able to help me with no problem). Parking here isn't really an issue, there's usually plenty of parking. read more

The manager of the store is very disrespectful, racist and has absolutely zero maners, or zero costumer service. I have had a couple encounters with her and she is just very rude. This Safeway is becoming my favorite go-to-place, not only for convenience and friendly staff, but for high-quality products. I'm actually reviewing a couple of products that we've been getting consistently: Strawberries (Driscolls) - when in season, very red, plump, ripe, and sweet! They are better than Costco's I think. Frozen Tilapia Fillets (32 oz family pack, Safeway brand). Best weeknight dinner in terms of taste, speed of prep, and consistency. Each fillet is individually shrink wrapped, and can be cooked without thawing! I cook 4-5 at a time and salt both sides without thawing. Cook in nonstick pan with oil and butter, 3-4 minutes each side to get a nice sear. Set aside. Melt 1 TB butter and saute some capers and add juice from half lemon. Pour over fish filets and enjoy! Never overcooked and turns out so good every time. Perfect for busy folks like us! read more

Had a bad experience here the first week we moved to San Ramonl last week. Went through self checkout after work. As we were finishing up I was holding my 6 month old daughter and my wife was trying to bag the groceries. The Safeway customer service representative made sure to tell us to hurry up and that people were waiting. As if we didn't wait our turn like everyone else. Just minutes ago I had a genuinely hilarious interaction with the customer service person at this location. Around 3 pm I came here to do my grocery shopping because I do my meal prep on Sundays, sometimes into the night due to odd working hours. A few hours later I opened the chicken I got directly from the meat counter and was hit with that very bad turned chicken smell. Vomit inducing stink. Wrapped it up, took it to the outside garbage, and was very thankful trash pickup is tomorrow. I called and spoke with the guy working CS and let him know because I wanted to give them a heads up to check out the chicken in the case. No demands, didn't even ask for money back, just maybe a little extra qc on the chicken so no one gets sick. I go on with the rest of my prep deciding I'll get more chicken tomorrow from somewhere else. I take out the ginger root I bought to peel and grate it only to discover blue/green mold on each of the pre-cut parts of the root. I should have checked it better in-store, even my partner was like, "Why didn't you look closer?!" but man, like come on. Having moldy produce is not it. I call to let them know they may also want to check their ginger and this man sarcastically tells me I should buy a lottery ticket. As if it's a wild possibility that I got a bad piece of chicken and a bad ginger on the same trip. Again, I wasn't needlessly complaining or even asking for something in return. I didn't even intend to get a refund because the hassle would be more than the monetary value, but like... really? Not only could your meat and produce use better quality checks but the customer service guy you have working Sunday evenings might need a small refresh on just basic... customer service. Ironically, I got my career start by training customer-facing people on how to interact with the public, which is why I'm almost always on the side of the employee, but being needlessly antagonistic to an otherwise calm customer who isn't even making a single demand is quite a choice. How lucky am I that this Safeway is so close to my home? I mean seriously.. you need to come check out the meat selection here -I assure you its worth the drive. This grocery store is the ONLY place I know that sells dry aged meats. When looking into the dry aged display case its almost like peering into Alexander's Steakhouse aged meats displays. Steak porn at its finest. I'm married to T-Rex (with longish ape arms) and the man is the baddest carnivore I know. He approves of the meat department here. Good meats for a great bargain. Jennifer the pregnant woman working curbside delivery is awful. What a disgusting human being. She sat there, belittled my grieving mother. She was shopping for a celebration of life for my deceased brother. Got mocked, laughed at, and ultimately belittled by this terrible woman. If i could give a -10 stars I absolutely would. Review for Shannon and the Concierge service I received a flyer in the mail that talked about the concierge service at Safeway a number of months ago and as I was approaching my youngest birthday, it popped into my head. In July, I sent an email about 2 weeks before the event letting her know what the event was and she reached out within a day letting me know she could chat on the phone to find out more information. I was not able to chat with her but she took the initiative to send me a sample menu and invoice based on the little information I provided her in less than 48hours. Fast forward to the end which was just a few emails to confirm the order. When I picked up all the food, she nailed it. She took the theme of our kids party made some suggestions and when I showed up on the day to pick it up it was there and ready with her manager onsite. To show you the attention to detail, She even had the drinks in the cooler so they were already cold when we picked them up and she incorporated rainbows that were not 'standard' on the website to order for the cake I selected. I'd give no stars if I could. As we are all sheltering in place, I tried to do the right thing and order groceries ahead of time for pickup. I ordered about 10 items including eggs, hamburger meat, some fresh fruit and vegetables, nothing out of the ordinary, and only 1 of each. I filled out my order last Sunday, 3/15 for pickup this coming Sunday, 3/22. The same day I get an email from the Safeway CEO that they are doing everything they can to help us thru this pandemic, and that their pickup and delivery is available, I get an email that they have canceled my order with the only explanation of 'Due to unusually high order volume, we unable to fulfill your (Home Delivery or Drive Up & Go) order. You may reorder and / or visit a nearby store.' Nice. I'll do my shopping from now on at sprouts or lucky's. I have been shopping at this Safeway for 25 years but not anymore. I have been going to this Safeway for many years and my most recent review was a year ago. First, I think the employees are fabulous. Many have worked here for years which is a good sign. Shannon the concierge is amazing. She knows everything about event planning to preparing meals for elderly folks stuck at home Here's my concern. I've noticed Safeway is frequently out of well known products. In an effort to become a wine seller they've used up lots of room and now don't have room for groceries. Ironic! For example, Rice a Roni rice pilaf was a staple at this store. Now there are so many varied choices for 90 second rices but rice pilaf is gone! Another new concern: I've noticed the produce section doesn't have fresh looking produce any more. It's the height of yellow squash season but the squash presented is HUGE and too fibrous or small and covered with bruises. The lettuce is excessively dirty, so much so a manager told me not to buy "that one." The last straw for me was I showed a produce employee (I didn't know this person) a bag of rotten snow peas and she said "I don't look at it, I just put it on the shelves." I hope she was an employee who is no longer there. This is not an issue about the employees, including the managers and store manager Corporate leadership has decided to cut corners because I believe all this remodeling and innovative products, including a HUGE liquor department has caused a budget deficit. They frequently run out of basic groceries and produce quality has dwindled. I had a plan: meatloaf, salad, and balloon. I was on a mission and I accomplished it. This Safeway is like many other Safeways but not the huge lines and at least fairly organized. L O C A T I O N Safeway is located off of Crow Canyon and San Ramon Valley which is west of 680. They share a parking lot with various other stores and restaurants like McDonalds, Senro Sushi, etc. I N S I D E Very similar in layout as other Safeways with a deli section, flowers section, produce and goods. They have a self checkout as well. They had piles of the homemade meatloaf which was $5. I lucked out on balloons this time as I was needing one for birthday and one for anniversary. Usually they have a bunch of balloons already pre-inflated. O V E R A L L I easily found parking though it was fairly packed at lunch time on a Friday. This Safeway has really stepped up their game with the recent remodel. I felt compelled to review them - even after coming here for 10 years - by their top-notch service I received today. Everyone was super friendly, they were well-staffed, and they had almost everything I needed for my holiday cooking despite being relatively busy. Safeway has always been a reliable option for us for pantry items and good quality meat, and seems to be getting better offering paleo, free-range and organic options as well as pasture-raised eggs. I can count on them to have lower prices on staples like quinoa, beans, and other healthy options I'd usually pick up at Whole Foods. I noticed they started selling more "exotic" produce recently, like ghost peppers, star fruit, aloe, etc. - I love wild card items like that when I'm feeling whimsy. I usually go here when I also need to get household stuff like soap or toothpicks like I needed today, lol. Bonus is getting the gas points and free order pick up, which I relied heavily on last year and even now if I can't easily make it in the store (a total buzzkill with three kids under 6, TBH!). Do not ever order a cake here! 2 years in a row they have screwed up. Last year they didn't have the cake ready and lost the toy pieces that were supposed to be placed on the cake and had to scramble to find something similar last minute. And this year they called 3 hours before pick up time saying they didn't have bakers or decorators to do the cake. That's all my message said. Had to call them and they did send the cake order over to the Bollinger location. The Bollinger Safeway did a FANTASTIC job. I suggest ordering cakes from that location instead. read more

I was craving for some sweets, so I decided to go grab a piece of German Chocolate Cake. As soon as I got home, I ate a couple of bites, and it definitely did not taste fresh. I decided to look at the date. It was packed four days ago, and it expires tomorrow!! I don't know why I didn't look at the date. This isn't the only time I had an issue with the bakery. During Thanksgiving, I bought a pumpkin pie. When I got home, I decided to have a piece and it turned out that the whole pie was growing some kind of fuzzy mold or something. This is one of the more modern Safeway's around. I also shy away from fast food most of the time for a lunch option. So, therefore I come here for lunch. The line to get a deli sandwich is always way to long. They have premade sandwiches that work fine for me. They also have fresh salads. My usual go to lunch is the sushi. OK, OK, make fun of me now, I eat sushi from Safeway. They have a sushi chef on staff and I have been eating it from here for a better part of a year and have never had a problem. Plus, its inexpensive. Self check out is the best invention ever. I love it. I think I love not dealing with people over the fact that its self check out. I'm in and out with no human contact. I primarily went to the Lucky on San Ramon Valley Blvd. or what used to be Albertson's on Alcosta or the Safeway on Dougherty ha ha. I do remember years and years back they used to sell concert tickets here because my best friend from Middle School and I got our tickets to a Hilary Duff Concert many moons ago from here! LOL her mom bought them for us here. I hadn't been back in a long time but I came with my sister and brother-in-law last weekend to get some movies from their Redbox. Overall an okay location. Clean and well organized grocery store. This morning I didn't want the same ole fast food for breakfast so I came here. My first thought was to get a doughnut .79 ea and 1.99 for large one $5 for a dozen. As I walked to the bakery in the back of the store, I caught the aroma of a cinnamon something baking in the ovens. It smelled sooooo good. This Safeway is the closest to my home and is the one that I shop at the most. It's and older store and is going through a remodeling now. It's a big store with a flower, hot deli, sandwich, and bakery. The produce and meat section are well stocked. The seafood section is a little lacking with limited fresh fish. There is a soup bar and a olive bar. The liquor section is extensive with a good selection. The pharmacy that takes up a huge space in the middle of the store is some what wasted. It would have been better to expand the Starbucks, there are always lines for coffee. read more

Update: Safeway (San Ramon, CA) and @Safeway HR called me and said that calling the police was working their right because the situation escalated and I threatened their "Dignity and Respect" because I questioned what they were doing. According to Safeway HR they do not deem calling the police as excessive and unnecessary and said that according to their journals that I do not have any money even though they saw my wallet open and the police saw my bank account. Safeway DID NOT APOLOGIZE and they DO NOT THINK NOT BELIEVE that their management team or employees have done anything wrong. #boycottsafeway I was not allowed to buy diapers and food for my baby Safeway in City of San Ramon because she (the manager) said I didn't have any money which was not the case. I asked her, "Is it because I'm Black?" and she nodded her head and said, "Yes!" Then took my diapers and food and walked away and called the police on me. Note during this entire exchange I did not yell, scream or curse but she proceeded to call the police on me. Three strangers came by which consisted of a single mom of 3, an older lady and a young man while the police were talking to me outside. They asked if I needed any help and I briefly told them what happened. As these 3 strangers went into the store the police asked for my id and I asked "Why I didn't do anything?" I wasn't going to argue with them as it was late. I gave them my id and told them to "run it. I don't have anything to hide. I've never been to jail, never been arrested and don't have any warrants out for my arrest (all while I was holding my baby outside). One officer came back about 30 seconds later and said she's clean, she lives down the street. No duh!! Why you look so surprised. The officers then proceeded to tell me what the manager said when she called them. She informed them that I didn't have any money on my card and that I was trying to steal the products which wasn't the case. I then told them my side of the story how she didn't even ask for another form of payment or let me try to run my card again. And when I asked the cashier for her name and the managers name who took my Food and diapers she refused and said "I no speak a Ingles" with an accent. I then started speaking to her in Spanish in which she then said, "I understand English" in perfect English with no accent. The officers said that the manger said that I'm not allowed back at the store again even though I didn't do anything wrong and didn't break any laws and was a "good law abiding citizen". When these 3 strangers returned outside, where I was with my baby, each one of them had bought some of the items that I needed. And if you have a baby or a toddler you know their food and diapers are not cheap; especially right now. I asked them how much do I owe them and they all said don't worry about it it's on us. One of them told me that her card declined the first time too and they let her walk out with the food. Then they came running outside after her and asked her to come back inside to try another payment, but why didn't they do this for me? She told me that they were having an error or glitch in their system when they hit the fast forward button which declines the payments. The fact that these 3 strangers who are all Caucasian/White did this for me brought tears to my eyes (I would have the same reaction no matter what race they were but just pointing out the fact that they were treated differently or better because of the color of their skin). Needless to say there are good people out there but also buttholes. Dare I say boycott Safeway for blatant discrimination and putting me and baby through this who cried during this whole incident? Does this warrant a lawsuit or just a complaint to corporate? Thoughts? A part of me feels that no matter how educated, nice or well behaved you are I will always be just a "thug" or "ghetto" Black person in their minds being judged by the color of my skin instead of my intellect and the content of my character. This is my second and last time getting a sandwich from this Safeway. The first time I went this exact situation happened and I just over looked it and chucked it up to they are busy. THIS time not the case at all. There were 3 ladies behind the counter making sandwiches. Ann who was making this other customer sandwich food an AMAZING job his looked awesome.
