The thing about this Safeway is that it's always super clean and well lit. The produce section is gorgeously stocked. I also love that they have all the latest Chobani creamer flavors, and I can always find my Diet Ginger Ale there when every other place is out of stock. The floral department gets special mention because they created gorgeous leis for both of my daughters' high school graduations. And they made beautiful, last minute flower arrangements whenever I needed them for dance recitals. The downside? Well, they are more expensive to shop at than neighboring Walmart and Trader Joes. read more

Picked up some great deals with the mix & match and a pack of NY steaks... chicken thighs were expensive but I used my flu shot 10% coupon.. $$ I do love Safeway..but.. today's visit was disappointing.. Pros: clean. Had everything we needed. open 24 hours. Cons: no complaints. there were unaccompanied teenagers loudly playing with all the toys in the toy aisle. One was riding around displays on a scooter. An employee very nicely asked them to stop and they did. Those teenagers were the worst thing about the store and they were promptly dealt with. read more

Popped in to get a chocolate cream pie for Thanksgiving and some small odds and ends for the holiday. Safeway in my opinion, has the best bakery items of the local grocery stores around. Been using Safeway for years for their pies and cakes. Safeway also has some delicious store made soups and deli items. Very nice, organized and clean store. I stopped at this Safeway yesterday to grab a few things and got a blueberry pie that was marked down 50%. I checked out through cash register, not the self checkout due to the fact it might've been difficult to take the 50% off and cause a line headache. I paid for the items with my credit card and went home. As I was driving home, I was wondering why my grocery bill was a little high. I looked at the receipt and found that I was charged twice for the blueberry pie. They charged me double and took only $2 off. I only bought one pie! The pie should've been $2. Ugh. I should've went through the self checkout instead. No wonder I have trust issues. I may stop by there today and let them know. It's an inconvenience to leave the house and drag the kid to the supermarket when I shouldn't. Yah it's only a few dollars but for someone with a fixed income, every dollar counts. 10/10 highly recommend. It's always clean and well organized. The aisles are spacious and well stocked at all times. Even if it wasn't customer appreciation today, every single person was so helpful and friendly. Today we were given single stemmed roses for customer appreciation by the super sweet miss Julie. She was so nice and very thankful that we visited the store. I wish more companies did this for their customers, it made our day! The food is always excellent as well. We got a few chicken tenders and spicy/ sweet sausage links. Both were a really great snack for our trek up to Tahoe to walk around Heavenly and see what's new up there. Time for an update. Safeway is my go-to supermarket in Alameda, mainly because there are 3 of them on the island, including Bay Farm. As this was a BRAND NEW Safeway when I first started shopping here so I expected more. I was happy when I first discovered it as it reminded me of the new one in Maui; I have so many positive memories there. Unfortunately, I spent a detailed amount of time in Raley's One Market (in a separate review) and wow, Safeway should have spent some time here before they built this one. Quality/Quantity - Good. Atmosphere - Good. New - Expected more especially when compared to Raley's. Plenty of parking. Pharmacy. Meat & Seafood. Produce. Starbucks. Deli. Bakery. Asian eats. Fried Chicken. Restrooms on both sides of the supermarket - The best feature. :) Service - Hit and miss. I try to do mostly self service. Price - Good, better than Raley's, LOL. Well, I mainly only shop the "Just for U" deals. And/or when I am here anyways because I am also a frequent Home Depot customer. But if you are reading, I am a Smith customer in Reno also. Owner Suggestion - Good job with your new build but I suggest checking out your competitors and learning from their best practices. read more

I came in early to grab some produce. It's always bright and clean at this location with fun displays when you first walk in. When I went to the cucumbers they were flimsy and soft. Luckily the staff were restocking the produce. A very nice staff saw me and said "hang on I'm about to restock those. Come get some fresh cucumbers from the box". He then lifted the boxes on top to reveal beautiful fresh cucumbers. Thank you to this wonderful staff that could have just let me take the best of the limp cucumbers, but instead went above to notify me of the fresh stock. I love this grocery store because it's clean, well stocked, produce is usually in great condition, you can have meat cut to order by the butcher, it has a great cheese and meat selection at the deli counter, etc. I do find it more expensive than other local grocery stores (even when I'm using the Safeway app and scanning for digital coupons) but the comfort in shopping in such a nice and peaceful grocery store is worth it in my opinion. I often use their grocery pickup service too (it's free!). read more

The store is always clean and well staffed with friendly people anxious to help. The food quality is excellent and items available in their bakery are fresh and extremely tasty. If I could give zero stars I would. Produce was an absolute nightmare. Having Rotten tomatoes and dirty shelves is not somewhere I'd like to get my groceries at. I made my way to dairy and picked up some yogurt that I purposely come to this store to buy. Unfortunately all of them were out of date. I guess I'll have to start buying groceries at another store. Really disappointed since my last visit was four months ago (since I live out of town) and the store was well kept, produce was never dirty and I my dairy was never out of date. Today I found myself inside the Steamboat Safeway. I'd say I hit this store once a week for the odds and ends on the grocery list. What a great new resource for south Reno residents. I usually wait to check out at check stand number one. Check stand number one is mostly secured by my favorite employee at Safeway...Italian grandma cashier Jenny. Jenny is always friendly, welcoming, and observant. One afternoon as I was parking in the parking lot I saw Jenny in the parking lot running to give a woman back her cell phone who had left it behind at check stand one. That my friends is going above and beyond! Jenny and I often talk about cooking and what meals are being planned down the road. If you're looking for a beautiful, clean, new, Safeway to stroll around in check it out..and be sure you swing by check stand one...Jenny will get you sorted out and even make sure your personal property goes home with you when you forget it!!! read more

I love coming to this store! I have been 10 or so times in the past few years, usually late afternoon, and am always happy when I leave. All three Safeways in Reno and Sparks are bigger, cleaner, and more well-stocked than many of the California Safeways I am used to. Maybe because it is not as dominant here as in the Bay Area? I am not sure, but for whatever reason, this is good news for the people here. The fruits and vegetables, which I buy a lot, are always thoughtfully displayed, fresh, and sufficiently stocked. When there is a sale, they have more of the item. I have never not found an item. They also have a large self-checkout station. Sometimes there is a line, but the queue goes fast. I have never waited more than 30 seconds or so. There is always a friendly employee right there in case you run into trouble and he or she can almost always resolve my problem. This Safeway, which is open 24 hours, is in the Damonte Ranch Towne Center, a newer plaza in southwest Reno where Damonte Ranch Parkway, Steamboat Parkway, and Veterans Parkway meet. They are expanding the parking area on the side and back of the store, but there has always been sufficient parking right in front of the store. By the way, this Safeway also features a pharmacy (separate Yelp page); Starbucks (separate Yelp page--not to be confused with the stand-alone Starbucks in this same plaza); large, staffed floral department; deli; bakery; meat and seafood department; beer, wine, and liquor; a staffed in-store slot machine area (a Nevada thing); and ready-to-eat foods. There is an in-store dining area in the front by the Starbucks, as well as free and fast Wi-Fi. All the employees are courteous and helpful. Carts are always plentiful, as are the sales flyers in the front. This time of year, there were many Halloween and fall decorations and items in the store, as well as some Christmas decorations too! On the negative, I have occasionally had issues with getting an online coupon or reward to go though at the register, but that is more how corporate has programmed the system. It works usually and is better than before. It is a minor i sue, and this does not deter me. Anyway, when I do come here, my experience always brightens my day. I always leave happy. I am so frustrated with this store. I literally live across the street and avoid shopping here..due to the lack of staff. Last night I walked in and there was ONE regular checkout line with about 10 people in line and a very long line at the self-checkout with a similar number of people. This has happened many times and I am just not going to shop there if I can help it. During the holidays I asked about Eggnog and a kid that was working in the meat dept. went into the walk-in and found a case for me that had not been stocked in the dairy section. I wish I could remember his name.. super nice kid, but he was the ONLY person in the back that could help me. During that same visit I wanted to buy Brandy for my eggnog and was asked to wait for a person with a key, since even the cheapest brandy was in a locked case.. After about 10 minutes I just left and bought the brandy somewhere else. read more

However, after talking to the man at the deli found that was not the case at all. While it was an unfortunately wasted trip, the gentleman was very kind and apologetic. Lettuce wilted, garlic dried out, mushy avocados, the list goes on. Yesterday I picked up some cheese, only to find the expiration (best by date) was two weeks ago? I'm a HUGE fan of grocery stores and I have my favorites. Safeway was my childhood neighborhood market less than a half mile from my house. My brother and I used to get free cookies from the bakery and look at the live lobsters in the tank. It was a fabulous store and I have very fond memories. I'll sometimes stop by that old (but remodeled) Safeway in South Lake Tahoe. It's still nice, still expensive, and they still have the best apple fritters and donuts in my opinion. Here, not so much. I went in one morning to check it out and bought two melons and HAD to try the fritter and one tiny maple old fashioned cake donut. When I checked my receipt the price was wrong on the produce from what was advertised, so I clearly overpaid that time but shrugged it off. And don't get me started on the dried out typical bad grocery store bakery donut...never again. The next time I went in, I had more time to browse. We checked the booze aisles, the produce, the deli, the meat section. It was ok, but since I'm an avid grocery shopper and also a thrifty blooded woman, I know my prices and daayyuum. This store is way more expensive than Raley's AND Whole Food's on many or most items. I would only buy something here if I'm desperate or if I know it's on sale. I also love my varieties of granola and organic sections and I did not see one. Also, their granola section was seriously lacking. Once we decided what we wanted to buy to make for dinner we couldn't find any onions other than bagged onions in large quantities. When we did find single onions, there were only a few shriveled, moldy onions left to choose from so we didn't get any. Ended up getting a few things and a box of rose wine which was very good but very over priced for boxed wine. This review is for Safeway's Hot Bar section - if you do not know this, you are missing something! Safeway serves the best potato wedges (hands-down) in Reno, spicy wings, and fried chicken! The service and ambiance of this place deserve some credit! Thank me later if you try this - buy potato wedges, spicy wings, and fried chicken from Safeway, and go to Asian Paradise to enjoy everything with chicken corn soup on a snow day (only during a snow day), and finish everything with their Green Tea :-) !!! If I could give this store a zero rating I would. Constant out of stocks, the excuses of the last two years have run out. These out of stock issues are due to poor ordering. I ordered pick up to save time and got substitutions for 90% of my order. It's always the same items. When I tried to talk to the clerk about it, instead of offering suggestions she became defensive, told me she was was just The Shop and Go person and stormed off. Now the deli, there are a couple of really good employees that are pleasant and slice meats perfectly. I invariably get the one gal that looks miserable and has never been trained (or doesn't care) about the different thicknesses they have listed on the counter. All of these issues began and end with management. This store is sorely lacking in management, in fact I've never seen any management in the store at all. read more

I have to say I've been thrilled since Safeway moved in. They may be spendy but I don't mind spending extra money to find items I haven't seen in Reno for years. The store is always spotless, and so far every experience has been great. However, the true star of this store is the pharmacy. I've been struggling for several years with their neighbor pharmacy, to an extent that it was effecting my mental health. One day after another pharmacy left me off meds for over 45 days, my husband called Safeway to see if they had them in stock. They immediately checked, with a positive demeanor, and returned to the call to say they DID have them. After that I moved all of my prescriptions over. Every refill has been seamless. The person on the phone or at the register is always kind and willing to help. I don't feel rushed, or hurried at all. Every month the person on the other line has gladly put me on hold to open the safe and see if they have my medicine in stock. The one time they didn't have it, rather than leave me without for an unsafe amount of time they suggested alternative doses. They told me what strength they did have and said if I wanted I could have my doctor redo my prescription for the month for the dosage they did have in stock. They even said they would set it aside for me over the weekend while I reached out to my doctor, since I had been the first to inquire. The next day I had my meds in hand, on time, and I haven't had to go 20-45 days every time I did a refill, causing an emotional roller coaster. I'm so glad this store popped up. Not only do they have my husbands favorite A1 Bold and Spicy, they also have a food, solid, kind, caring staff. read more

This Safeway is fantastic. Great customer service and quick lines. Most importantly though, they sell black and white cookies and I'm pretty sure they bake them in house and they are to die for. I lived in New York awhile back and it's really hard to find a solid west coast black and white that compares. As long as they sell those cookies, I will be shopping at Safeway read more

I'm a loyal user of this Safeway. When I am in town I often come in here. Even though there is a huge Walton owned store down the street. Now I'll be honest with you and admit that the larger stores do offer the same products for a few pennies cheaper. But those stores close and this place is open 24 hours. The pharmacy and Deli do close and I'll get more to that later. But for the most part if you need anything at all times of night, this is my go-to location. The cashiers are usually very outgoing, I've been coming here a while and they seem to know what I like. When something is on sale for a really good price they have been known to give me a raincheck coupon to give me a chance to come back and take advantage of the offer. I really like that. The floral department is amazing. The selection and condition that the flowers are kept are bar none the best in Reno. They will even do arrangements if you ask nicely. Love the floral department and the people working there. The pharmacy I don't really use, so I'll leave it at that. My only complaint, and it is slight... is the Deli. It closes rather early. I just don't get it. I've spent many a minute with people back there and they know I want something from inside their displays. I don't see the need to make me wait till the following day to get something I want out of there. If you see me and I'm waiting there with my milk and yogurt getting warm the least you can do is ask me if you can get me anything. It's just how I feel about it. But I've never received above and beyond service from the deli and all I wanted was chicken salad. However, I still give this place 5 stars because it's my home away from home. Only thing I ever come up short on is the pizza yeast. But that's probably I usually buy it all myself. But they keep it stocked up and open all the time. Can't ask for much else. Three Stars for a clean organized store. But prices here are higher than most stores in the area. I know they are connected to other stores in their chain with different names in Southern California and Southern Nevada. I shop those stores at times when in those areas but with this chain it is difficult to shop for items that are not on sale. Another issue I have with Safeway is that my member card that I have had for many years, over 30, is not linked to my husbands card. We have had nothing but problems get this figured out. Why he has another card that does not work with mine is beyond me since we opened the account years ago in Tahoe. I do get tired of bagging my own groceries when shopping here. Many times the cashier does not even make an effort and moves on to the next customer. I pay the higher prices so I expect to get someone to bag my groceries otherwise I would go to another store in the area where you bag your own. I do appreciate having this store closer to my home. It is easy to just pop over and pick up a few items when needed. The location is good. read more

Pharmacy / Drug is a little smaller than other stores, but CVS is nearby so no big deal.
